RESUMO

Background: The effectiveness of the anastomosis method for laparoscopic left colectomy (LLC) remains inconclusive. Thus, a systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to compare the outcomes between intraperitoneal anastomosis (IPA) and extraperitoneal anastomosis(EPA)in LLC. Methods: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, and WanFangData were systematically searched for relevant literature. The literature was screened independently by two groups, and data were extracted and evaluated for bias. Meta-analysis was performed using Revman5.4 software. Results: Twelve studies with a total of 1,278 patients were included in our meta-analysis. Compared with the EPA group, the IPA group had less blood loss [odds ratio (OR)=-20.32, 95% confidence interval (CI) (-27.98-12.65), p<0.00001], a lower overall complication rate [OR=0.45, 95% CI (0.33-0.63), p<0.00001], fewer non-severe complications [OR=0.44, 95% CI (0.30-0.64), p<0.0001], and fewer surgical site infections [OR=0.39, 95% CI (0.21-0.71), p=0.002]. Additionally, a longer operation time appeared in the multicenter and propensity score matching (PSM) subgroups of the IPA group. Furthermore, patients in the IPA group had an earlier exhaust time and shorter hospital stays. There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding severe complications, anastomose-related complications, postoperative blood transfusion, ileus, reoperation rate, time to stool, pathologic sample length, and lymph node dissection number. Conclusion: IPA seems more advantageous than EPA for patients receiving LCC in terms of complications and postoperative recovery and has similar oncological outcomes. However, it may take longer and be more difficult to perform. Systematic Review Registration: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#recordDetails PROSPERO, identifier (CRD4202454391).

RESUMO

Assessing and selecting climate models with lower uncertainty is necessary to predict future climate and hydrological risks at the watershed scale. In this study, we integrated stepwise cluster analysis (SCA) to propose a multi-model ensemble downscaling framework aimed at reducing the uncertainty of GCM-based precipitation projections in large-scale watersheds. The Pearl River Basin (PRB) in southern China was selected as the study area to validate the reliability of this framework. Spatially, we investigated the features of terrain-related spatial heterogeneity in precipitation simulation of different climate models using a stepwise cluster zoning approach. The spatial performance of most CMIP6 models was effective in capturing the annual mean precipitation from the source region to the downstream of the PRB. To further evaluate the model's skill in simulating precipitation patterns, we conducted a seasonal analysis for different periods throughout the year. However, the seasonal precipitation cycle exhibited a wet bias during cold seasons, and the most significant deviation of precipitation percentage intervals occurred during winter. The TSS ranking of CMIP6 models was used to select the top-performing models to construct an improved multi-model ensemble mean (MEM5), resulting in a more accurate precipitation simulation for PRB. Results showed consistent precipitation increases (p < 0.05) for all scenarios in the PRB, with the middle and lower reaches being the most sensitive to changes in precipitation. The improved MEM5 can serve as a valuable reference for accurately simulating hydrological regimes and extreme weather events in the PRB. The proposed multi-model ensemble downscaling framework, which incorporates SCA, offers a new approach for high-resolution and low-uncertainty climate simulations in other large-scale watersheds.

RESUMO

In preparation for a potential pregnancy, the endometrium of the uterus changes into a temporary structure called the decidua. Senescent decidual stromal cells (DSCs) are enriched in the decidua during decidualization, but the underlying mechanisms of this process remain unclear. Here, we performed single-cell RNA transcriptomics on ESCs and DSCs and found that cell senescence during decidualization is accompanied by increased levels of the branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) transporter SLC3A2. Depletion of leucine, one of the branched-chain amino acids, from cultured media decreased senescence, while high leucine diet resulted in increased senescence and high rates of embryo loss in mice. BCAAs induced senescence in DSCs via the p38 MAPK pathway. In contrast, TNFSF14+ decidual natural killer (dNK) cells were found to inhibit DSC senescence by interacting with its ligand TNFRSF14. As in mice fed high-leucine diets, both mice with NK cell depletion and Tnfrsf14-deficient mice with excessive uterine senescence experienced adverse pregnancy outcomes. Further, we found excessive uterine senescence, SLC3A2-mediated BCAA intake, and insufficient TNFRSF14 expression in the decidua of patients with recurrent spontaneous abortion. In summary, this study suggests that dNK cells maintain senescence homeostasis of DSCs via TNFSF14/TNFRSF14, providing a potential therapeutic strategy to prevent DSC senescence-associated spontaneous abortion.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aims to assess the associations of admission systolic blood pressure (SBP) level with spontaneous reperfusion (SR) and long-term prognosis in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. METHODS: Data from 3809 STEMI patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention within 24 h, as recorded in the Chinese STEMI PPCI Registry (NCT04996901), were analyzed. The primary endpoint was SR, defined as thrombolysis in myocardial infarction grade 2-3 flow of IRA according to emergency angiography. The second endpoint was 2-year all-cause mortality. The association between admission BP and outcomes was evaluated using Logistic regression or Cox proportional hazards models with restricted cubic splines, adjusting for clinical characteristics. RESULTS: Admission SBP rather than diastolic BP was associated with SR after adjustment. Notably, this relationship exhibits a nonlinear pattern. Below 120mmHg, There existed a significant positive correlation between admission SBP and the incidence of SR (adjusted OR per 10-mmHg decrease for SBP ≤ 120 mm Hg: 0.800; 95% CI: 0.706-0.907; p<0.001); whereas above 120mmHg, no further improvement in SR was observed (adjusted OR per 10-mmHg increase for SBP >120 mm Hg: 1.019; 95% CI: 0.958-1.084, p = 0.552). In the analysis of the endpoint event of mortality, patients admitted with SBP ranging from 121 to 150 mmHg exhibited the lowest mortality compared with those SBP ≤ 120mmHg (adjusted HR: 0.653; 95% CI: 0.495-0.862; p = 0.003). In addition, subgroups analysis with Killip class I-II showed SBP ≤ 120mmHg was still associated with increased risk of mortality. CONCLUSION: The present study revealed admission SBP above 120 mmHg was associated with higher SR,30-d and 2-y survival rate in STEMI patients. The admission SBP could be a marker to provide clinical assessment and treatment. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04996901), 07/27/2021.

RESUMO

Programming the organization of discrete building blocks into periodic and quasi-periodic arrays is challenging. Methods for organizing materials are particularly important at the nanoscale, where the time required for organization processes is practically manageable in experiments, and the resulting structures are of interest for applications spanning catalysis, optics, and plasmonics. While the assembly of isotropic nanoscale objects has been extensively studied and described by empirical design rules, recent synthetic advances have allowed anisotropy to be programmed into macroscopic assemblies made from nanoscale building blocks, opening new opportunities to engineer periodic materials and even quasicrystals with unnatural properties. In this review, we define guidelines for leveraging anisotropy of individual building blocks to direct the organization of nanoscale matter. First, the nature and spatial distribution of local interactions are considered and three design rules that guide particle organization are derived. Subsequently, recent examples from the literature are examined in the context of these design rules. Within the discussion of each rule, we delineate the examples according to the dimensionality (0D-3D) of the building blocks. Finally, we use geometric considerations to propose a general inverse design-based construction strategy that will enable the engineering of colloidal crystals with unprecedented structural control.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy of the posterior hemipelvectomy of the greater trochanter approach with the standard Kocher-Langenbeck(K-L) approach in the treatment of posterior acetabulum wall fractures and to explore a more optimal approach for the treatment of posterior acetabulum wall fractures. METHODS: Total of 26 patients with posterior acetabulum wall fractures were retrospectively analysed and divided into two groups:the posterior hemipelvectomy of the greater trochanter group (test group) and the standard K-L approach group (control group). In the test group, there were 24 patients including 16 males and 8 females with an average age of (42.00±4.52) years old, the time of injury to surgery was (6.75±1.15) d. In the control group, there were 23 patients including 16 males and 7 females with an average age of (41.00±5.82) years old, the time of injury to surgery was (7.09±1.20) days. The total hospital stay, length of incision, operation time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative drainage, discharge, fracture reduction quality (Matta criteria), hip abduction muscle strength, hip function (Merle d'Aubigne-Postel score), postoperative complications and the incidence of ectopic ossification were compared. RESULTS: All cases were followed up for 6 months. There was no significant difference in incision length, intraoperative bleeding and postoperative drainage between two groups(P>0.05). However, the operation time of the test group was shorter than that of the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in fracture reduction and hip function between two groups (P>0.05). The hip abduction muscle strength of test group was better than that of control group(P<0.05). In addition, there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications and heterotopic ossification between two groups(P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Compared with the standard K-L approach, the posterior hemipelvectomy of the greater trochanter approach can shorten the operative time, has better recovery of the postoperative hip abduction muscle strength, exposes the view of the fracture involving the more comminuted posterior acetabulum wall or the fracture of the roof of the socket, improved the rate of fracture anatomical repositioning, provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of posterior acetabulum wall fractures, and allows patients to perform functional exercises at an early stage.

RESUMO

Linear ultrasonic motors can output large thrust stably in a narrow space. In this paper, a plate linear ultrasonic motor is studied. Firstly, the configuration and operating principle of the Π-type linear ultrasonic motor is illustrated. Then, two slotting schemes are put forward for the stator to enlarge the amplitude of the driving foot and improve the output performance of motor. After that, a novel optimization method based on the power flow method is suggested to describe the energy flow of stator, so as to estimate the slotting schemes. Finally, the prototypes are manufactured and tested. The experimental results show that the output performance of both new motors are excellent. The maximum output thrust of the arc slotted motor is 76 N/94 N, and the corresponding maximum no-load speed is 283 mm/s/213 mm/s, while the maximum output thrust of V-slotted motor reaches 90 N/120 N, and the maximum no-load speed reaches 223 mm/s/368 mm/s.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are commonly used in hospitalized patients with liver cancer for the administration of chemotherapy, nutrition, and other medications. However, PICC-related thrombosis is a serious complication that can lead to morbidity and mortality in this patient population. Several risk factors have been identified for the development of PICC-related thrombosis, including cancer type, stage, comorbidities, and catheter characteristics. Understanding these risk factors and developing a predictive model can help healthcare providers identify high-risk patients and implement preventive measures to reduce the incidence of thrombosis. AIM: To analyze the influencing factors of PICC-related thrombosis in hospitalized patients with liver cancer, construct a predictive model, and validate it. METHODS: Clinical data of hospitalized patients with liver cancer admitted from January 2020 to December 2023 were collected. Thirty-five cases of PICC-related thrombosis in hospitalized patients with liver cancer were collected, and 220 patients who underwent PICC placement during the same period but did not develop PICC-related thrombosis were randomly selected as controls. A total of 255 samples were collected and used as the training set, and 77 cases were collected as the validation set in a 7:3 ratio. General patient information, case data, catheterization data, coagulation indicators, and Autar Thrombosis Risk Assessment Scale scores were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate unconditional logistic regression analyses were performed on relevant factors, and the value of combined indicators in predicting PICC-related thrombosis in hospitalized patients with liver cancer was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS: Univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) in age, sex, Karnofsky performance status score (KPS), bedridden time, activities of daily living impairment, parenteral nutrition, catheter duration, distant metastasis, and bone marrow suppression between the thrombosis group and the non-thrombosis group. Other aspects had no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that age ≥ 60 years, KPS score ≤ 50 points, parenteral nutrition, stage III to IV, distant metastasis, bone marrow suppression, and activities of daily living impairment were independent risk factors for PICC-related thrombosis in hospitalized patients with liver cancer (P < 0.05). Catheter duration of 1-6 months and catheter duration > 6 months were protective factors for PICC-related thrombosis (P < 0.05). The predictive model for PICC-related thrombosis was obtained as follows: P predictive probability = [exp (Logit P)]/[1 + exp (Logit P)], where Logit P = age × 1.907 + KPS score × 2.045 + parenteral nutrition × 9.467 + catheter duration × 0.506 + tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging × 2.844 + distant metastasis × 2.065 + bone marrow suppression × 2.082 + activities of daily living impairment × 13.926. ROC curve analysis showed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.827 (95%CI: 0.724-0.929, P < 0.001), with a corresponding optimal cut-off value of 0.612, sensitivity of 0.755, and specificity of 0.857. Calibration curve analysis showed good consistency between the predicted occurrence of PICC-related thrombosis and actual occurrence (P > 0.05). ROC analysis showed AUCs of 0.888 and 0.729 for the training and validation sets, respectively. CONCLUSION: Age, KPS score, parenteral nutrition, TNM staging, distant metastasis, bone marrow suppression, and activities of daily living impairment are independent risk factors for PICC-related thrombosis in hospitalized patients with liver cancer, while catheter duration is a protective factor for the disease. The predictive model has an AUC of 0.827, indicating high predictive accuracy and clinical value.

RESUMO

Plastic pollution is an emerging environmental issue, with microplastics and nanoplastics raising health concerns due to bioaccumulation. This work explored the impact of polystyrene nanoparticle (PS-NPs) exposure during prepuberty on male reproductive function post maturation in rats. Rats were gavaged with PS-NPs (80 nm) at 0, 3, 6, 12 mg/kg/day from postnatal day 21 to 95. PS-NPs accumulated in the testes and reduced sperm quality, serum reproductive hormones, and testicular coefficients. HE staining showed impaired spermatogenesis. PS-NPs disrupted the blood-testis barrier (BTB) by decreasing junction proteins, inducing inflammation and apoptosis. Transcriptomics identified differentially expressed genes related to metabolism, lysosome, apoptosis, and TLR4 signaling. Molecular docking revealed Cordycepin could compete with polystyrene for binding to TLR4. Cordycepin alleviated oxidative stress and improved barrier function in PS-NPs treated Sertoli cells. In conclusion, prepubertal PS-NPs exposure induces long-term reproductive toxicity in male rats, likely by disrupting spermatogenesis through oxidative stress and BTB damage. Cordycepin could potentially antagonize this effect by targeting TLR4 and warrants further study as a protective agent. This study elucidates the mechanisms underlying reproductive toxicity of PS-NPs and explores therapeutic strategies.

RESUMO

Background: Prognostic assessment for colorectal cancer (CRC) displays substantial heterogeneity, as reliance solely on traditional TNM staging falls short of achieving precise individualized predictions. The integration of diverse biological information sources holds the potential to enhance prognostic accuracy. Objective: To establish a comprehensive multi-tiered precision prognostic evaluation system for CRC by amalgamating gene expression profiles, clinical characteristics, and tumor microsatellite instability (MSI) status in CRC patients. Methods: We integrated genomic data, clinical information, and survival follow-up data from 483 CRC patients obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. MSI-related gene modules were identified using differential expression analysis and Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA). Three prognostic models were constructed: MSI-Related Gene Prognostic Model (Model I), Clinical Prognostic Model (Model II), and Integrated Multi-Layered Prognostic Model (Model III) by combining clinical features. Model performance was assessed and compared using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and other methods. Results: Six MSI-related genes were selected for constructing Model I (AUC = 0.724); Model II used two clinical features (AUC = 0.684). Compared to individual models, the integrated Model III exhibited superior performance (AUC = 0.825) and demonstrated good stability in an independent dataset (AUC = 0.767). Conclusion: This study successfully developed and validated a comprehensive multi-tiered precision prognostic assessment model for CRC, providing an effective tool for personalized medical management of CRC.

RESUMO

Colloidal crystal engineering with DNA allows one to design diverse superlattices with tunable lattice symmetry, composition, and spacing. Most of these structures follow the complementary contact model, maximizing DNA hybridization on building blocks and producing relatively close-packed lattices. Here, low-symmetry kagome superlattices are assembled from DNA-modified gold bipyramids that can engage only in partial DNA surface matching. The bipyramid dimensions and DNA length can be engineered for two different superlattices with rhombohedral unit cells, including one composed of a periodic stacking of kagome lattices. Enabled by the partial facet alignment, the kagome lattices exhibit lattice distortion, bipyramid twisting, and planar chirality. When conjugated with Cy-5 dyes, the kagome lattices serve as cavities with high-density optical states and large Purcell factors along lateral directions, leading to strong dipole radiation along the z axis and facet-dependent light emission. Such complex optical properties make these materials attractive for lasers, displays, and quantum sensing constructs.

RESUMO

Introduction: Both hook-wire (HW) and anchored needle (AN) techniques can be used for preoperative computed tomography (CT)-guided localization for pulmonary nodules (PNs). But the outcomes associated with these two materials remain unclear. Aim: To assess the relative safety and efficacy of preoperative CT-guided HW and AN localization for PNs. Material and methods: This was a retrospective analysis of data collected from two institutions. Consecutive patients with PNs between January 2020 and December 2021 who underwent preoperative CT-guided HW or AN localization followed by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) procedures were included in these analyses, which compared the safety and clinical efficiency of these two localization strategies. Results: In total, 98 patients (105 PNs) and 93 patients (107 PNs) underwent CT-guided HW and AN localization procedures, respectively. The HW and AN groups exhibited similar rates of successful PN localization (95.2% vs. 99.1%, p = 0.117), but the dislodgement rate in the HW group was significantly higher than that for the AN group (4.8% vs. 0.0%, p = 0.029). The mean pain score of patients in the HW group was significantly higher than that for the AN group (p = 0.001). HW and AN localization strategies were associated with comparable pneumothorax (21.4% vs. 16.1%, p = 0.349) and pulmonary hemorrhage (29.6% vs. 23.7%, p = 0.354) rates. All patients other than 1 individual in the HW group successfully underwent VATS-guided limited resection. Conclusions: These data suggest that AN represents a safe, well-tolerated, feasible preoperative localization strategy for PNs that may offer value as a replacement for HW localization.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Both we and others have found that RBC counts are significantly lower in older compared to younger. However, when gender is factored in, a significant age-related decrease of RBC counts is observed only in men but not in women. METHODS: qPCR and confocal microscopy were used to detect the presence of mtDNA in RBCs. Flow cytometry and specific inhibitors were used to determine how RBCs uptake cf-mtDNA. The peripheral blood was collected from 202 young adults and 207 older adults and RBC and plasma were isolated. The levels of TLR9+RBCs and apoptotic RBCs after uptake of cf-mtDNA by RBCs were measured by flow cytometry. The kit detects changes in SOD and MDA levels after cf-mtDNA uptake by RBCs. Young RBCs (YR) and old RBCs (OR) from single individuals were separated by Percoll centrifugation. RESULTS: We found a significant decrease in RBC counts and a significant increase in the RDW with aging only in men. We also found that significantly elevated mtDNA content in RBCs was observed only in men during aging and was not found in women. Further studies demonstrated that RBCs could take up cf-mtDNA via TLR9, and the uptake of mtDNA might lead to a decrease in the RBC number and an increase in RDW due to an increase of oxidative stress. CONCLUSIONS: The RBC mtDNA content might be a potential marker of RBC aging and the elevated RBC mtDNA content might be the cause of faster senescence in males than females.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to explore whether prenatal gut microbiota (GM) and its functions predict the development of offspring temperament. A total of 53 mothers with a 1-year-old child and 41 mothers with a 2-year-old child were included in this study using a mother-infant cohort from central China. Maternal fecal samples collected during the third trimester were analyzed using 16S rRNA V3-V4 gene sequences. Temperament of the child was measured by self-reported data according to the primary caregiver. The effects of GM in mothers on offspring's temperament were evaluated using multiple linear regression models. The results demonstrated that the alpha diversity index Simpson of prenatal GM was positively associated with the activity level of offspring at 1 year (adj. P = .036). Bifidobacterium was positively associated with high-intensity pleasure characteristics of offspring at 1 year (adj. P = .031). Comparatively, the presence of Bifidobacterium found in the prenatal microbiome was associated with low-intensity pleasure characteristics in offspring at 2 years (adj. P = .031). There were many significant associations noted among the functional pathways of prenatal GM and temperament of offspring at 2 years. Our findings support the maternal-fetal GM axis in the setting of fetal-placental development with subsequent postnatal neurocognitive developmental outcomes, and suggest that early childhood temperament is in part associated with specific GM in the prenatal setting.

RESUMO

As the thickness of an ultra-thin flattened heat pipe (UTHP) decreases, the fabrication difficulty increases exponentially, and the thermal performance deteriorates rapidly. In this study, three types of composite wicks were developed for UTHPs with a 0.6 mm thickness: copper foam and mesh wick (CFMW), two layers of different mesh wick (TDMW), and three layers of the same mesh wick (TSMW). The startup and steady-state performances of the UTHPs with liquid filling ratios of 60% to 120% were investigated. The findings indicated that the CFMW UTHP with a filling ratio of 100% exhibited the best startup performance, with the highest equilibrium temperature of 58.37 °C. The maximum heat transport capacities of the CFMW, TDMW, and TSMW UTHP samples were 9, 8, and 8.5 W, respectively, at their corresponding optimum filling ratios of 110%, 90%, and 100%. The CFMW UTHP exhibited the lowest evaporation and condensation thermal resistances of 0.151 and 0.189 K/W, respectively, which were 24.67% and 41.85% lower than those of the TSMW UTHP. CFMW can be used to improve the thermal performance of UTHPs. This study provides important guidelines for the structural design, fabrication technology, and performance improvement of high-performance UTHPs used in portable electronic devices.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Midgut volvulus in adults based on congenital malrotation, which required emergency surgery, may occur under the stimulation of adverse factors and is rare and easy to be misdiagnosed. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A young male was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital after six hours abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) shows intestinal volvulus and exploratory laparotomy was performed. Postoperative CT revealed remission of small intestinal torsion and congenital malrotation of the midgut. The patient vomited frequently within 48 h after the surgery, and was transferred to our hospital for conservative treatment. After 4 days of conservative treatment, the vomiting symptoms were relieved at first, but worsened again after a liquid diet. CT showed complete duodenal obstruction and exploratory laparotomy was performed again. Congenital malrotation was found, which resulted in midgut volvulus and duodenal obstruction due to anomalous fixation of the mesentery. The bowel was placed in normal anatomical position, and the mesentery was sutured to the posterior abdominal wall. The patient was followed up for 24 months with no complaints. DISCUSSION: Due to the rare incidence and atypical pain clinical manifestations, it is difficult for the congenital malrotation in adults to be diagnosed. Midgut volvulus in adults with malrotation is even rarer and requires emergency operation, and may be misdiagnosed. CONCLUSION: Midgut volvulus with midgut malrotation is very rare in adults. Exploratory laparotomy must be careful to reduce misdiagnosis and recurrence of volvulus.

RESUMO

In this study, we aimed to provide guidance for selecting bone grafting materials in cases of alveolar clefts. Twenty-nine patients with unilateral complete alveolar clefts were categorized into three groups based on the bone grafting material used: Group A (iliac bone block grafts), Group B (iliac cancellous bone grafts), and Group C (chin bone block grafts). Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data were analyzed using Mimics 19.0 software. Results showed that Group A had the highest bone formation rate, with significant differences observed between Groups A and B, as well as between Groups B and C. Group A and Group C had the highest proportion of Type I in volume assessment, while Group B had the highest proportion of Type III, Significant differences were observed in the distribution of volume assessment scores among the three groups. Bone height measurement results indicated that buccal-side measurement points had a higher proportion of Type I bone height than palatal-side measurement points. Bone width measurement results showed that Type I bone width was highest in Group C, while Type IV bone width was highest in Group B. Significant differences were observed in the distribution of implanted bone width among the three groups. Total grafting scores indicated that Types A and D were predominant in Groups A and C, while Group B had the highest proportion of Type D. Significant differences were observed in the distribution of total grafting scores among the three groups. The comprehensive evaluation method provides accurate assessment of alveolar cleft bone grafting outcomes and is applicable in clinical settings. Based on the results, we consider both iliac bone blocks and chin bone blocks as suitable materials for alveolar cleft bone grafting. Grafting material selection should consider preoperative gap volume measured using CBCT, required bone quantity, donor site complications, and overall clinical needs.

RESUMO

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) represents one of the most severe subtypes of stroke. Due to the complexity of the brain injury mechanisms following ICH, there are currently no effective treatments to significantly improve patient functional outcomes. Curcumin, as a potential therapeutic agent for ICH, is limited by its poor water solubility and oral bioavailability. In this study, mPEG-PCL is used to encapsulate curcumin, forming curcumin nanoparticles, and utilized the intranasal administration route to directly deliver curcumin nanoparticles from the nasal cavity to the brain. By inhibiting pro-inflammatory neuroinflammation of microglia following ICH in mice, reprogramming pro-inflammatory microglia toward an anti-inflammatory function, and consequently reducing neuronal inflammatory death and hematoma volume, this approach improved blood-brain barrier damage in ICH mice and promoted the recovery of neurological function post-stroke. This study offers a promising therapeutic strategy for ICH to mediate neuroinflammatory microenvironments.

RESUMO

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a prevalent form of lung cancer. Patients with advanced NSCLC are currently being treated with various therapies, including traditional radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapy. However, a considerable proportion of advance patients who cannot benefit from them. Consequently, it is essential to identify a novel research target that offers an encouraging perspective. The stimulator of interferon genes (STING) has emerged as such a target. At present, it is confirmed that activating STING in NSCLC tumor cells can impede the proliferation and metastasis of dormant tumor cells. This review focuses on the role of STING in NSCLC treatment and the factors influencing its activation. Additionally, it explores the correlation between STING activation and diverse therapy modalities for NSCLC, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, molecular targeted therapies and immunotherapy. Furthermore, it proposes the prospect of innovative therapy methods involving nanoparticles, with the aim of using the features of STING to develop more strategies for NSCLC therapy.
