RESUMO

In order to evaluate the feasibility of rice husk and rice husk biochar on assisting phytoremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals (HMs) co-contaminated soils, a 150-day pot experiment planted with alfalfa was designed. Rice husk and its derived biochar were applied to remediate a PAHs, Zn, and Cr co-contaminated soil. The effects of rice husk and biochar on the removal and bioavailability of PAHs and HMs, PAH-ring hydroxylating dioxygenase gene abundance and bacterial community structure in rhizosphere soils were investigated. Results suggested that rice husk biochar had better performance on the removal of PAHs and immobilization of HMs than those of rice husk in co-contaminated rhizosphere soil. The abundance of PAH-degraders, which increased with the culture time, was positively correlated with PAHs removal. Rice husk biochar decreased the richness and diversity of bacterial community, enhanced the growth of Steroidobacter, Bacillus, and Sphingomonas in rhizosphere soils. However, Steroidobacter, Dongia and Acidibacter were stimulated in rice husk amended soils. According to the correlation analysis, Steroidobacter and Mycobacterium may play an important role in PAHs removal and HMs absorption. The combination of rice husk biochar and alfalfa would be a promising method to remediate PAHs and HMs co-contaminated soil.

RESUMO

The preparation of biochar from digestate is one of the effective ways to achieve the safe disposal and resource utilization of digestate. Nevertheless, up to now, a comprehensive review encompassing the factors influencing anaerobic digestate-derived biochar production and its applications is scarce in the literature. Therefore, to fill this gap, the present work first outlined the research hotspots of digestate in the last decade using bibliometric statistical analysis with the help of VOSviewer. Then, the characteristics of the different sources of digestate were summarized. Furthermore, the influencing factors of biochar preparation from digestate and the modification methods of digestate-derived biochar and associated mechanisms were analyzed. Notably, a comprehensive synthesis of anaerobic digestate-derived biochar applications is provided, encompassing enhanced anaerobic digestion, heavy metal remediation, aerobic composting, antibiotic/antibiotic resistance gene removal, and phosphorus recovery from digestate liquor. The economic and environmental impacts of digestate-derived biochar were also analyzed. Finally, the development prospect and challenges of using biochar from digestate to combat environmental pollution are foreseen. The aim is to not only address digestate management challenges at the source but also offer a novel path for the resourceful utilization of digestate.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There are relatively few studies investigating C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), and the relationship between CCL2 level in BALF and refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) is unclear. This study aims to explore the relationship between chemokine CCL2 level in BALF and clinical characteristics and clinical outcome in children with MPP. METHODS: A total of 51 children with confirmed acute MPP and requiring bronchoalveolar lavage in Department of Pediatrics, Huanghe Sanmenxia Hospital and The First Clinical College of Xinxiang Medical University from October 2021 to February 2023 were selected as the study group. And 11 children with bronchial foreign body were selected as the control group. The study group was divided into the non-refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (NRMPP) group and the RMPP group based on the response to treatment. BALF and clinical data of the patients were collected. And CCL2 levels were tested in the patients. Differences in CCL2 level in BALF and clinical characteristics were tested and compared. RESULTS: The CCL2 level in BALF of the study group was higher than that of the control group, with significant difference (P < 0.05). With ROC curve, the area under the curve (AUC) of CCL2 in BALF predicting RMPP was 0.94, the cut-off value was 0.645 ng/ml, the sensitivity was 85%, and the specificity was 94%, and the diagnostic value was better than that of serum CRP and LDH. Logistic regression analysis was used to build the RMPP prediction model, and CCL2 showed good predictive value. CONCLUSION: The level of CCL2 in BALF was high in children with MPP and had a high predictive value for RMPP. CCL2 can be used as one of the biomarkers for predicting RMPP.

RESUMO

Electrochemical analysis has become a new method for plant analysis in recent years. It can not only collect signals of electrochemically active substances in plant tissues, but can also be used to identify plant species. At the same time, the signals of electrochemically active substances in plant tissues can also be used to investigate plant phylogeny. In this work, we collected electrochemical finger patterns in Malvaceae leaves based on the established methodological strategy. After the second derivative treatment, the collected electrochemical fingerprints can show more obvious differences. Three different recognition models were used to attempt electrochemical fingerprinting. The results show that linear support vector classification can be used to identify species with high accuracy by combining the electrochemical fingerprint signals collected in the phosphoric acid buffer solution and acetic acid buffer solution. In addition, the fingerprint information collected by the electrochemical sensor is further used for phylogenetic investigation. The 18 species were divided into three clusters. Species of the same genus have been clustered together. Dendrogram obtained by electrochemical fingerprinting was used to compare previously reported results deduced from morphological and complete chloroplast genomes.

RESUMO

In the present study, mulberry branch-derived biochar CuO (MBC/CuO) composite was successfully synthesized and used as a catalyst to activate persulfate (PS) for the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA). The MBC/CuO/PS system exhibited a high degradation efficiency (93%) of BPA, under the conditions of 0.1 g/L MBC/CuO, 1.0 mM PS, 10 mg/L BPA. Free radical quenching and electron spin-resonance spectroscopy (ESR) experiments confirmed that both free radicals •OH, SO4•- and O2•- and non-radicals 1O2 were involved in the MBC/CuO reaction system. Cl- and NOM displayed negligible influence on the degradation of BPA, while HCO3- promoted the removal of BPA. In addition, the toxicity tests of BPA, MBC/CuO and the degraded BPA solution were conducted by the 5th instar silkworm larvae. The toxicity of BPA was reduced after the treatment in the MBC/CuO/PS system, and no obvious toxicity of the synthesized MBC/CuO composite was found in the toxicity evaluation experiments. This work provides a new value-added utilization of mulberry branches as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly PS activator.

RESUMO

BiFeO3 (BFO), as a kind of narrow band-gap semiconductor material, has gradually emerged advantages in the application of photocatalysis. In this paper, Ca doped BFO nanoparticles Bi0.9Ca0.1FeO3 (BCFO) were prepared by sol-gel method. And BCFO and CdS nanocomposites with two morphologies were obtained by controlling the time of loading CdS under a low temperature liquid phase process. It is found that the band gap becomes narrower after doping Ca into BFO, which is conducive to the absorption of visible light. Among all the samples, the composite of CdS nanowires and BCFO nanoparticles obtained by reaction time of 10 min has the best photocatalytic performance. The degradation rate of Methyl Orange solution was 94% after 90 min under visible light irradiation, which was much higher than that of pure BCFO and CdS. Furthermore, significant enhancement in the degradation rate (100% degradation in 60 min) can be achieved in poled samples after electric polarization process. The highest degradation rate is due to the promoted separation of photogenerated carriers induced by the internal polarization field and the formation of S-scheme heterostructure between BCFO and CdS. Such BCFO-CdS nanocomposites may bring new insights into designing highly efficient photocatalyst.

RESUMO

Pesticide testing is an important topic in environmental protection and food safety. The development of green, accurate and reliable pesticide residue detection methods is an important technical support for implementing of agricultural quality supervision. Electrochemical sensors are a very promising analytical method for pesticide detection due to their high sensitivity, speed, low cost and portability. Performance enhancement of electrochemical sensors is often accompanied by research advances in materials science. Among them, carbon material is a very important electrode material for the fabrication of electrochemical sensors. The discovery of graphene makes it the most promising candidate among carbon materials for sensor performance enhancement. The topic of this review is the use of graphene-modified electrochemical sensors for pesticide detection in the last decade. Traditional literature summaries and bibliometric analyses were used for an in-depth analysis of this topic. In addition to the introduction of different sensor types and performance comparisons, this review also parses the authors' country, keywords and publication frequency. The related research experienced rapid growth several years ago and has now reached a relatively stable stage. We also discuss the perspectives on this topic.

RESUMO

Phosphorus is anon-renewable resource. Supplies are limited and muchphosphorusis currently wasted during the production and utilization process, causing concerns about future supplies and widespread environmental problems. To solve these problems, a new type of NiFe-LDH/rGO electrically switched ion-selective (ESIX) film is designed, based on the dominant mechanism of inner-sphere complexation. An ESIX process allows the NiFe-LDH/rGO hybrid film to achieve a controllably selective uptake and release of the phosphate anions. This route involves tuning potential steps to regulate the redox states of the composite film and the variable metal (e.g., Ni, Fe (II)/(III)) in coordination centers, as the inner-sphere complexation of the metals to phosphate anions is combined with the assistance of the outer electric field. A high absorption capacity (270 mg·g-1) and regeneration rate (>85%) were achieved, together with good cycle stability.

RESUMO

Background: Prescription errors impact the safety and efficacy of therapy and are considered to have a higher impact on paediatric populations. Nevertheless, information in paediatrics is still lacking, particularly in primary care settings. There exists a need to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of prescription errors in paediatric outpatients to prevent such errors during the prescription stage. Methods: A cross-sectional study to evaluate paediatric prescription errors in multi-primary care settings was conducted between August 2019 and July 2021. Prescriptions documented within the electronic pre-prescription system were automatically reviewed by the system and then, potentially inappropriate prescriptions would be reconciled by remote pharmacists via a regional pharmacy information exchange network. The demographics of paediatric patients, prescription details, and types/rates of errors were assessed and used to identify associated factors for prescription using logistic regression. Results: A total of 39,754 outpatient paediatric prescriptions in 13 community health care centres were reviewed, among which 1,724 prescriptions (4.3%) were enrolled in the study as they met the inclusion criteria. Dose errors were the most prevalent (27%), with the predominance of underdosing (69%). They were followed by errors in selection without specified indications (24.5%), incompatibility (12.4%), and frequency errors (9.9%). Among critical errors were drug duplication (8.7%), contraindication (.9%), and drug interaction (.8%) that directly affect the drug's safety and efficacy. Notably, error rates were highest in medications for respiratory system drugs (50.5%), antibiotics (27.3%), and Chinese traditional medicine (12.3%). Results of logistic regression revealed that specific drug classification (antitussives, expectorants and mucolytic agents, anti-infective agents), patient age (<6 years), and prescriber specialty (paediatrics) related positively to errors. Conclusion: Our study provides the prevalence and characteristics of prescription errors of paediatric outpatients in community settings based on an electronic pre-prescription system. Errors in dose calculations and medications commonly prescribed in primary care settings, such as respiratory system drugs, antibiotics, and Chinese traditional medicine, are certainly to be aware of. These results highlight an essential requirement to update the rules of prescriptions in the pre-prescription system to facilitate the delivery of excellent therapeutic outcomes.

RESUMO

Biochar and ryegrass have been used in the remediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)-contaminated soils; however, the effects of different biochar application levels on the dissipation of PAHs, bacterial communities, and PAH-ring hydroxylating dioxygenase (PAH-RHDα) genes in rhizosphere soil remain unclear. In this study, enzyme activity tests, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and high-throughput sequencing were performed to investigate the effects of different proportions of rape straw biochar (1%, 2%, and 4% (w/w)) on the degradation of PAHs, as well as the associated changes in the soil bacterial community and PAH-RHDα gene expression. The results revealed that biochar enhanced the rhizoremediation of PAH-contaminated soil and that 2% biochar-treated rhizosphere soil was the most effective in removing PAHs. Furthermore, urease activity, abundance and activity of total bacteria, and PAH-degrading bacteria were enhanced in soil that was amended with biochar and ryegrass. Additionally, the activity of 16S rDNA and PAH-RHDα gram-negative (GN) genes increased with increasing biochar dosage and had a positive correlation with the removal of PAHs. Biochar changed the rhizosphere soil bacterial composition and α-diversity, and promoted the growth of Pseudomonas and Zeaxanthinibacter. In addition, the relative abundance of Pseudomonas was positively correlated with PAH removal. These findings imply that rape straw biochar can enhance the rhizoremediation of PAH-contaminated soil by changing soil bacterial communities and stimulating the expression of PAH-RHDα GN genes. The 2% of rape straw biochar combined with ryegrass would be an effective method to remediate the PAH-contaminated soil.

RESUMO

Sunset yellow is a synthetic azo colorant widely used in food and beverages. Excessive consumption of sunset yellow can lead to health risks, so it is necessary to establish an efficient and low-cost test. Electrochemical sensor has become a potential analytical method because of its high sensitivity and rapidity. Due to the rapid development of materials science, the detection limit of electrochemical sensors has been further reduced. In this work, we use two bibliometrics software to analyze the topic of electrochemical detection of sunset yellow. A total of 194 papers participated in the bibliometrics analysis. The country, institution and year in which the paper was published were analyzed to understand the cooperation model and development history of the topic. At the same time, this work also analyzes the keywords and categories of the paper. The research directions and hot spots in different stages of this topic are discussed. Finally, we summarized and proposed perspectives of this topic through bibliometrics results.

RESUMO

In the present study, pyrophosphate (PP) was used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for acid orange 7 (AO7) removal under neutral pH conditions. The removal rate of AO7 (20 mg/L) was 84% within the reaction time with a rate constant value of 0.0165 min-1 under optimum conditions. Additionally, the effects of the concentrations of PMS and PP in solutions with various pH values and the coexisting inorganic anions on AO7 removal were measured. In addition, the performance of phosphate (P(V)) on PMS activation was compared with that of phosphite (P(III)) species. In contrast to P(III), the concentration of P(V) showed a positive correlation with the efficiency of AO7 decolorization. PMS activation in different types of buffer solutions was also examined, and the results indicated that the decolorization efficiency of AO7 induced by PP addition, and the buffer solution also contributed to PMS self-decomposition. Singlet oxygen (1O2) might be the primary reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the PP/PMS system in which AO7 is decolorized at an initial pH of 7.06, as indicated by quenching experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) tests. Therefore, PP/PMS systems may be promising technologies for removing organic contaminants, particularly for PP-rich electroplating wastewater.

RESUMO

Two kinds of bacteria, named TDJ-7 and TDJ-9, were isolated from the soil, which could degrade terbutylazine effectively. TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 were identified as Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus subtilis. The degradation efficiency of 10mg/L of terbutylazine by TDJ-7 could reach 95% within 6 days, and the strain TDJ-9 could reach 98% under the same conditions. Both strain TDJ-7 and strain TDJ-7 could also effectively degrade simazine, metribuzin, atrazine and ametryn. In addition, strain TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 had been successfully developed into a live bacterial agent that could be used to degrade terbutylazine residue. These results suggest that strain TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 can be used for the bioremediation of terbutylazine or other s-triazine herbicides contamination.

RESUMO

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) widely existing in the environment can pose a serious threat to the ecological safety. However, the influence of PBDEs on methane production by excess sludge (ES) and kitchen waste (KW) anaerobic co-digestion and its mechanism is not clear. To fill this gap, in this work, the co-digestion characteristics of ES and KW exposed to different levels of PBDEs at medium temperature were investigated in sequencing batch reactor, and the related mechanisms were also revealed. The results showed that PBDEs reduced methane production and the proportion of methane in the biogas. Methane yield decreased from 215.3 mL/g· volatile suspended solids (VSS) to 161.5 mL/(g·VSS), accompanied by the increase of PBDE content from 0 to 8.0 mg/Kg. Volatile fatty acid (VFA) yield was also inhibited by PBDEs; especially when PBDEs were 8.0 mg/Kg, VFA production was only 215.6 mg/g VSS, accounting for 75.7% of that in the control. Mechanism investigation revealed PBDEs significantly inhibited the processes of hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis, and methanogenesis. Further study showed that PBDEs could inhibit the degradation and bioavailability of ES and KW, but it had a greater inhibition on the utilization of KW. Enzyme activity investigation revealed that all the key enzyme activities related to methane production were suppressed by PBDEs.

RESUMO

Simazine was one of the most commonly used herbicides and was widely used to control broadleaf weeds in agriculture and forestry. Its widespread use had caused wide public concern for its high ecological toxicity. In order to remove simazine residues, 2 strains capable of effectively degrading simazine were isolated from the soil and named SIMA-N5 and SIMA-N9. SIMA-N5 was identified as Bacillus licheniformis by 16SrRNA sequence analysis, and SIMA-N9 was Bacillus altitudinis. According to the degradation ratio of simazine in a certain period of time, the degradation ability of different strains was evaluated. The degradation efficiency of simazine (5 mg/L) by SIMA-N9 could reach about 98% in 5d, and the strain SIMA-N5 could reach 94% under the same conditions. In addition, the addition of Pennisetum rhizosphere soil during the process of degrading simazine by strain SIMA-N9 could effectively improve the degradation efficiency. The strain SIMA-N9 has been developed as a microbial agent for the bioremediation of simazine contamination in soil. The new microbial agent developed by using SIMA-N9 has achieved satisfactory application effects. Based on the research results already obtained in this study, it was considered that strain SIMA-N9 and its live bacterial agent could play an important role in bioremediation of simazine pollution. This study could not only provide a set of solutions to the simazine pollution, but also provide a reference for the treatment of other pesticide pollution.

RESUMO

Uric acid is an important indicator of the insect infestation assessment in flour. In this work, we propose a method for uric acid detection based on voltammetry. This technique is particularly considered for the physicochemical properties of flour and contains a simple pretreatment process to rapidly achieve extraction and adsorption of uric acid in flour. To achieve specific recognition of uric acid, graphene and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) were used for the adsorption and concentration of uric acid in flour. The adsorbed mixture was immobilized on the surface of a screen-printed electrode for highly sensitive detection of the uric acid. The results showed that electrocatalytic oxidation of uric acid could be achieved after adsorption by graphene and PEDOT. This electrocatalytic reaction allows its oxidation peak to be distinguished from those of other substances that commonly possess electrochemical activity. This voltammetry-based detection method is a portable and disposable analytical method. Because it is simple to operate, requires no professional training, and is inexpensive, it is a field analysis method that can be promoted.

RESUMO

Indigo is a plant dye that has been used as an important dye by various ancient civilizations throughout history. Today, due to environmental and health concerns, plant indigo is re-entering the market. Strobilanthes cusia (Nees) Kuntze is the most widely used species in China for indigo preparation. However, other species under Strobilanthes have a similar feature. In this work, 12 Strobilanthes spp. were analyzed using electrochemical fingerprinting technology. Depending on their electrochemically active molecules, they can be quickly identified by fingerprinting. In addition, the fingerprint obtained under different conditions can be used to produce scattered patter and heatmap. These patterns make plant identification more convenient. Since the electrochemically active components in plants reflect the differences at the gene level to some extent, the obtained electrochemical fingerprints are further used for the discussion of phylogenetics.

RESUMO

Recently, the influence behavior of new pollutants in the environment has been widely concerned. However, the effect of antidepressants widely detected in excess sludge (ES) on biohydrogen production from anaerobic dark fermentation has never been explored. To fill this gap, fluoxetine (FLX), a typical antidepressant, was selected to evaluate its effect on ES mesophilic anaerobic dark biohydrogen fermentation. The results showed that FLX reduced biohydrogen production even at low content (0.1 mg/Kg). The biohydrogen yield was only 12.8 mL/g in the 1.8 mg/Kg (based on total suspended solids) FLX group, decreased by about 34.7%, compared with the control group (without FLX). Further mechanism investigation implied that high levels (more than 0.6 mg/Kg) of FLX reduced every step associated with the biohydrogen production. FLX reduced the concentration of ammonia nitrogen and phosphate in fermentation broth. FLX also had a significant negative effect on enzyme activity in ES dark fermentation.

RESUMO

The strains CM-Z19 and CM-Z6, which are capable of highly degrading chlorpyrifos-methyl, were isolated from soil. They were identified as Bacillus megaterium CM-Z19 and Pseudomonas syringae CM-Z6, respectively, based on the 16S rRNA and an analysis of their morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics. The strain CM-Z19 showed 92.6% degradation of chlorpyrifos-methyl (100 mg/L) within 5 days of incubation, and the strain CM-Z6 was 99.1% under the same conditions. In addition, the degradation characteristics of the two strains were compared and studied, and the results showed that the strain CM-Z19 had higher phosphoesterase activity and ability to degrade the organophosphorus pesticide than did the strain CM-Z6. However, the strain CM-Z19 could not degrade its first hydrolysis metabolite 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) and could not completely degrade chlorpyrifos-methyl. The strain CM-Z6 could effectively degrade TCP and could degrade chlorpyrifos-methyl more quickly than strain CM-Z19.
