Background: Social intelligence refers to an important psychosocial skill set encompassing an array of abilities, including effective self-expression, understanding of social contexts, and acting wisely in social interactions. While there is ample evidence of its importance in various mental health outcomes, particularly social anxiety, little is known on the brain correlates underlying social intelligence and how it can mitigate social anxiety. Objective: This research aims to investigate the functional neural markers of social intelligence and their relations to social anxiety. Methods: Data of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and behavioral measures were collected from 231 normal students aged 16 to 20 years (48% male). Whole-brain voxel-wise correlation analysis was conducted to detect the functional brain clusters related to social intelligence. Correlation and mediation analyses explored the potential role of social intelligence in the linkage of resting-state brain activities to social anxiety. Results: Social intelligence was correlated with neural activities (assessed as the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations, fALFF) among two key brain clusters in the social cognition networks: negatively correlated in left superior frontal gyrus (SFG) and positively correlated in right middle temporal gyrus. Further, the left SFG fALFF was positively correlated with social anxiety; brain-personality-symptom analysis revealed that this relationship was mediated by social intelligence. Conclusion: These results indicate that resting-state activities in the social cognition networks might influence a person's social anxiety via social intelligence: lower left SFG activity → higher social intelligence → lower social anxiety. These may have implication for developing neurobehavioral interventions to mitigate social anxiety.

Considerable attention has been by far paid to stabilizing metallic Zn anodes, where side reactions and dendrite formation still remain detrimental to their practical advancement. Electrolyte modification or protected layer design is widely reported; nonetheless, an effective maneuver to synergize both tactics has been rarely explored. Herein, we propose a localized electrolyte optimization via the introduction of a dual-functional biomass modificator over the Zn anode. Instrumental characterization in conjunction with molecular dynamics simulation indicates local solvation structure transformation owing to the limitation of bound water with intermolecular hydrogen bonds, effectively suppressing hydrogen evolutions. Meanwhile, the optimized nucleation throughout the protein membrane allows uniform Zn deposition. Accordingly, the symmetric cell exhibits an elongated lifespan of 3280 h at 1.0 mA cm-2/1.0 mAh cm-2, while the capacity retention of the full cell sustains 91.1% after 2000 cycles at 5.0 A g-1. The localized electrolyte tailoring via protein membrane introduction might offer insights into operational metal anode protection.

The uneven texture evolution of Zn during electrodeposition would adversely impact upon the lifespan of aqueous Zn metal batteries. To address this issue, tremendous endeavors are made to induce Zn(002) orientational deposition employing graphene and its derivatives. Nevertheless, the effect of prototype graphene film over Zn deposition behavior has garnered less attention. Here, it is attempted to solve such a puzzle via utilizing transferred high-quality graphene film with controllable layer numbers in a scalable manner on a Zn foil. The multilayer graphene fails to facilitate a Zn epitaxial deposition, whereas the monolayer film with slight breakages steers a unique pinhole deposition mode. In-depth electrochemical measurements and theoretical simulations discover that the transferred graphene film not only acts as an armor to inhibit side reactions but also serves as a buffer layer to homogenize initial Zn nucleation and decrease Zn migration barrier, accordingly enabling a smooth deposition layer with closely stacked polycrystalline domains. As a result, both assembled symmetric and full cells manage to deliver satisfactory electrochemical performances. This study proposes a concept of "pinhole deposition" to dictate Zn electrodeposition and broadens the horizons of graphene-modified Zn anodes.

Orientation guidance has shown its cutting edges in electrodeposition modulation to promote Zn anode stability toward commercialized standards. Nevertheless, large-scale orientational deposition is handicapped by the competition between Zn-ion reduction and mass transfer. Herein, a holistic electrolyte additive protocol is put forward via incorporating bio-derived dextrin molecules into a zinc sulfate electrolyte bath. Electrochemical tests in combination with molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate the alleviation of concentration polarization throughout accelerating Zn2+ diffusion and retarding their reduction. The predominant (101) texture on inert current collectors (i.e., Cu, Ti, and stainless steel) and (101)/(002) textures on Zn foils afford homogeneous electrical field distribution, which is contributed by the work difference to form the 2D nucleus and the adsorption of dextrin molecules, respectively. Consequently, the symmetric cell harvests a longevous cycling lifespan of over 4000 h at 0.5 mA cm-2 /0.5 mAh cm-2 while the Zn@Cu electrode sustains for 240 h at a high depth of discharge of 40%.

Abnormal processes of learning from prediction errors, i.e. the discrepancies between expectations and outcomes, are thought to underlie motivational impairments in schizophrenia. Although dopaminergic abnormalities in the mesocorticolimbic reward circuit have been found in patients with schizophrenia, the pathway through which prediction error signals are processed in schizophrenia has yet to be elucidated. To determine the neural correlates of prediction error processing in schizophrenia, we conducted a meta-analysis of whole-brain neuroimaging studies that investigated prediction error signal processing in schizophrenia patients and healthy controls. A total of 14 studies (324 schizophrenia patients and 348 healthy controls) using the reinforcement learning paradigm were included. Our meta-analysis showed that, relative to healthy controls, schizophrenia patients showed increased activity in the precentral gyrus and middle frontal gyrus and reduced activity in the mesolimbic circuit, including the striatum, thalamus, amygdala, hippocampus, anterior cingulate cortex, insula, superior temporal gyrus, and cerebellum, when processing prediction errors. We also found hyperactivity in frontal areas and hypoactivity in mesolimbic areas when encoding prediction error signals in schizophrenia patients, potentially indicating abnormal dopamine signaling of reward prediction error and suggesting failure to represent the value of alternative responses during prediction error learning and decision making.

In the era of rapidly evolving smart electronic devices, the development of power supplies with miniaturization and versatility is imperative. Prevailing manufacturing approaches for basic energy modules impose limitations on their size and shape design. Printing is an emerging technique to fabricate energy storage systems with tailorable mass loading and compelling energy output, benefiting from elaborate structural configurations and unobstructed charge transports. The derived "printable energy storage" realm is now focusing on materials exploration, ink formulation, and device construction. This contribution aims to illustrate the current state-of-the-art in printable energy storage and identify the existing challenges in the 3D printing design of electrodes. Insights into the future outlooks and directions for the development of this field are provided, with the goal of enabling printable energy storage toward practical applications.

Soil seed bank is the growth and reproduction source of vegetation community, playing an important role in vegetation establishment, succession and renewal, biodiversity maintenance. This study has selected the nascent wetland in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) formed in 1996 as study area and investigated the diversity and key influencing factors of soil seed bank diversity. The study results show that: (1) The soil seed bank in the study area has a simple structure, containing relatively few species. A total of five plant species, which belong to four families and five genera, were found in this bank, with Phragmites australis and Suaeda salsa being the dominant plants. (2) All species are herbs without woody species. One herb is annual herb and the others are perennial herbs. (3) From the sea to the river, the changes rules of the overall density and diversity of the seed bank are not obvious. (4) The dispersal distance from salt and freshwater has a significant influence on the density of the soil seed bank but has no significant influence on the diversity. Meanwhile, the soil salt content has a significant negative influence on the diversity of seed banks. (5) Aboveground vegetation did not closely relationship with diversity of soil seed bank. All above results can provide basic data and scientific evidence for the conservation of vegetation communities in the nascent wetlands and vegetation restoration in the degraded wetlands in the YRD.

Electroepitaxy is recognized as an effective approach to prepare metal electrodes with nearly complete reversibility. Nevertheless, large-scale manipulation is still not attainable owing to complicated interfacial chemistry. Here, the feasibility of extending Zn electroepitaxy toward the bulk phase over a mass-produced mono-oriented Cu(111) foil is demonstrated. Interfacial Cu-Zn alloy and turbulent electroosmosis are circumvented by adopting a potentiostatic electrodeposition protocol. The as-prepared Zn single-crystalline anode enables stable cycling of symmetric cells at a stringent current density of 50.0 mA cm-2 . The assembled full cell further sustaines a capacity retention of 95.7% at 5.0 A g-1 for 1500 cycles, accompanied by a controllably low N/P ratio of 7.5. In addition to Zn, Ni electroepitaxy can be realized by using the same approach. This study may inspire rational exploration of the design of high-end metal electrodes.

Despite conspicuous merits of Zn metal anodes, the commercialization is still handicapped by rampant dendrite formation and notorious side reaction. Manipulating the nucleation mode and deposition orientation of Zn is a key to rendering stabilized Zn anodes. Here, a dual electrolyte additive strategy is put forward via the direct cooperation of xylitol (XY) and graphene oxide (GO) species into typical zinc sulfate electrolyte. As verified by molecular dynamics simulations, the incorporated XY molecules could regulate the solvation structure of Zn2+ , thus inhibiting hydrogen evolution and side reactions. The self-assembled GO layer is in favor of facilitating the desolvation process to accelerate reaction kinetics. Progressive nucleation and orientational deposition can be realized under the synergistic modulation, enabling a dense and uniform Zn deposition. Consequently, symmetric cell based on dual additives harvests a highly reversible cycling of 5600 h at 1.0 mA cm-2 /1.0 mAh cm-2 .

Constructing a conductive carbon-based artificial interphase layer (AIL) to inhibit dendritic formation and side reaction plays a pivotal role in achieving longevous Zn anodes. Distinct from the previously reported carbonaceous overlayers with singular dopants and thick foreign coatings, a new type of N/O co-doped carbon skin with ultrathin feature (i.e., 20 nm thickness) is developed via the direct chemical vapor deposition growth over Zn foil. Throughout fine-tuning the growth conditions, mosaic nanocrystalline graphene can be obtained, which is proven crucial to enable the orientational deposition along Zn (002), thereby inducing a planar Zn texture. Moreover, the abundant heteroatoms help reduce the solvation energy and accelerate the reaction kinetics. As a result, dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution, and side reactions are concurrently mitigated. Symmetric cell harvests durable electrochemical cycling of 3040 h at 1.0 mA cm-2 /1.0 mAh cm-2 and 136 h at 30.0 mA cm-2 /30.0 mAh cm-2 . Assembled full battery further realizes elongated lifespans under stringent conditions of fast charging, bending operation, and low N/P ratio. This strategy opens up a new avenue for the in situ construction of conductive AIL toward pragmatic Zn anode.

The link between air pollution and individual happiness is widely documented. However, the role of social engagement in pollution reduction is seldom considered in the nexus. As such, using large individual-level data from the Gallup World Poll of 151 countries for 2005-2018, this study applies a pooled cross-sectional data approach (controlling for country and year fixed effects) to examine the impact of air pollution on individual happiness and the role of social engagement in shaping the pollution-happiness relationship. The key findings of this study reveal that better air quality raises personal subjective well-being, given that the coefficient of individuals' perceived air quality is positive and statistically significant. More importantly, social engagement in pollution reduction is found to play an important moderating role in shaping the pollution-happiness relationship. Moreover, using a series of robustness checks, such as applying an alternative measure of happiness, an alternative measure of air quality (objective air quality), and using an instrumental variable estimation approach, confirms the positive effect of air quality (perceived or objective) on improving individuals' happiness and the moderating role of social engagement. Furthermore, this study reveals that different demographic characteristics (i.e., age, sex, income, marital status, and urban/rural residence) respond differently to the adverse effects of air pollution and the moderating role of social engagement in pollution reduction. Thus, some policies can be revised and proposed in light of the novel findings of social engagement. In particular, the government should take an active role in combating air pollution and improving air quality by increasing financial input and strengthening environmental protection publicity. The limitations of the study and directions for future research are discussed.

Biomarkers of interest in urine, serum, or other biological matrices often have an assay limit of detection. When concentration levels of the biomarkers for some subjects fall below the limit, the measures for those subjects are censored. Censored data due to detection limits are very common in public health and medical research. If censored data from a single exposure group follow a normal distribution or follow a normal distribution after some transformations, Tobit regression models can be applied. Given a Tobit regression model and a detection limit, the proportion of censored data can be determined. However, in practice, it is common that the data can exhibit excessive censored observations beyond what would be expected under a Tobit regression model. One common cause is heterogeneity of the study population, that is, there exists a subpopulation who lack such biomarkers and their values are always under the detection limit, and hence are censored. In this article, we develop a new test for testing such latent class under a Tobit regression model by directly comparing the amount of observed censored data with what would be expected under the Tobit regression model. A closed form of the test statistic as well as its asymptotic properties are derived based on estimating equations. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the performance of the new test and compare the new one with the existing ones including the Wald test, likelihood ratio test, and score test. Two real data examples are also included for illustrative purpose.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe the association between sociodemographic factors and trajectories of disease, disability and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in early rheumatoid arthritis (ERA). METHODS: Data were collected prospectively over 3 years in the Singapore Early Arthritis Cohort study. Trajectories were modeled using multi-trajectory group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) and determinants of trajectory membership were identified using multinomial logistic regression. RESULTS: Two hundred and thirteen patients were included: 58.2% Chinese, 16.4% Malay, 21.6% Indian, mean (SD) age 51.3 (12.6) years and symptom duration 21.8 (15.3) weeks. In the multi-trajectory analysis, three groups of disease trajectories and corresponding disability and HRQoL trajectories were identified: group 1 (moderate disease rapid response, 49.9%), group 2 (high disease rapid response, 31.1%) and group 3 (high disease slow response, 19.1%). Malay patients had higher relative risk ratio (RRR) of being in trajectory groups 2 and 3 compared to group 1 (RRR = 2.30, 95% CI 1.05-3.98 and RRR = 4.02, 95% CI 1.45-6.43, respectively) while patients with tertiary education had lower relative risk (RRR = 0.56, 95% CI 0.45-0.89 and RRR = 0.33, (95% CI 0.14-0.83, respectively). In the analysis of individual outcomes, ethnicity, education level and body mass index were determinants of the heterogeneous disease activity trajectories. Gender and education level were determinants of the disability trajectories. Only gender was a determinant of the HRQoL trajectories. Further, 96.2% of the patients were treated with conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. CONCLUSION: Disparities in sociodemographic factors should be taken into consideration in formulating treatment strategies in ERA.

Wilms tumor demonstrates significant interethnic epidemiological, histological and outcome differences, and is rare and poorly studied among Asians. We compared the clinicopathological, and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) profile and survival outcomes of Asian and non-Asian patients with Wilms tumor. Clinical charts and histological slides from patients with malignant renal tumors over a period of 20 years were retrospectively reviewed. We adapted a genotyping assay to determine 1p36 and 16q21-22 LOH in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens, and compared these characteristics between Asian and non-Asian patients. Fifty-three (79.1%) Asian and 14 (20.9%) non-Asian patients had Wilms tumors. Compared to non-Asians, Asians were younger (mean 4.6 and 4.0 years, respectively), had more equal gender distribution (female: male = 1.8 and 1.0, respectively), fewer tumors with unfavorable histology (25.0% and 4.1%, respectively, p = 0.05), and less advanced disease at presentation, yet similar nodal metastases rates (16.7% and 18.4%, respectively). No Asian patients had bilateral tumors. Our adapted genotyping assay accurately determined LOH in FFPE specimens <10 years post-fixation. Among 30 Asian patients, 1p and 16q LOH were each detected in 5 (16.7%) patients, respectively-similar to rates reported in other ethnicities. Yet after similar treatment with National Wilms Tumor Study regimens, 15-year event-free and overall survival for Asian patients was 95.7% and 96.3% respectively. In summary, despite similar nodal metastasis and LOH rates, Asian patients had fewer unfavorable histology tumors, lower-stage disease, and better survival outcomes. The bases for these differences and implications on treatment strategy for these patients warrant further study.

Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL, encoded by lukSF-PV genes), a bi-component and pore-forming toxin, is carried by different staphylococcal bacteriophages. The prevalence of PVL in Staphylococcus aureus has been reported around the globe. However, the data on PVL-encoding phage types, lukSF-PV gene variation and chromosomal phage insertion sites for PVL-positive S. aureus are limited, especially in China. In order to obtain a more complete understanding of the molecular epidemiology of PVL-positive S. aureus, an integrated and modified PCR-based scheme was applied to detect the PVL-encoding phage types. Phage insertion locus and the lukSF-PV variant were determined by PCR and sequencing. Meanwhile, the genetic background was characterized by staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) typing, staphylococcal protein A (spa) gene polymorphisms typing, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) typing, accessory gene regulator (agr) locus typing and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Seventy eight (78/1175, 6.6%) isolates possessed the lukSF-PV genes and 59.0% (46/78) of PVL-positive strains belonged to CC59 lineage. Eight known different PVL-encoding phage types were detected, and Φ7247PVL/ΦST5967PVL (n = 13) and ΦPVL (n = 12) were the most prevalent among them. While 25 (25/78, 32.1%) isolates, belonging to ST30, and ST59 clones, were unable to be typed by the modified PCR-based scheme. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified at five locations in the lukSF-PV genes, two of which were non-synonymous. Maximum-likelihood tree analysis of attachment sites sequences detected six SNP profiles for attR and eight for attL, respectively. In conclusion, the PVL-positive S. aureus mainly harbored Φ7247PVL/ΦST5967PVL and ΦPVL in the regions studied. lukSF-PV gene sequences, PVL-encoding phages, and phage insertion locus generally varied with lineages. Moreover, PVL-positive clones that have emerged worldwide likely carry distinct phages.
