Impressions of others are formed from multiple cues, including facial features, vocal tone, and behavioral descriptions, and may be subject to multimodal updating. Four experiments (N = 803) examined the influence of a target's face or voice on impression updating. Experiments 1a-1b examined whether behavior-based impressions are susceptible to updating by incongruent information conveyed by the target's face, voice, or behavior (within-participant manipulation). Both faces and voices updated impressions with comparable strength, but less than behaviors. Experiment 2, contrasting faces and voices only (between-participants manipulation), showed that voices outperformed faces regardless of how impressions were formed (i.e., via behavioral vs. nonbehavioral information). Experiment 3 found no difference when comparing faces and voices in a within-participant design and controlling for stimulus attractiveness. Our work highlights the importance of multimodal cues for impression updating and shows that the relative power of faces and voices depends on contextual factors.

Green mining is the basic background of high-quality mining, and source reduction is the most important part, among which the optimization of working face height and length is the most active. How to control the working face parameters, reasonably evaluate the surface subsidence characteristics of the super-long working face, and identify the limit working face length and the surface discontinuous deformation threshold is particularly important. In order to solve the problem of irreversible damage to the surface caused by the mining process of the working face, this paper discusses the whole process of surface movement in the 8.8 m super-large mining height working face of Shangwan Coal Mine through field investigation, the maximum subsidence is 6.20 m, with a subsidence coefficient of 0.72. Combined with the inflection point trajectory, advancing degree and subsidence coefficient, the 0.9 coefficient of the working face subsidence basin boundary and the loss reduction strategy far from the limit working face threshold are proposed. The results show that the subsidence basin of 12,401 working face accounts for 34%, the continuous deformation area of surface accounts for 64%, and the influence area of discontinuous deformation area is within 10 times of mining height. With the help of borehole detection verification, the caving zone height within the coal seam overburden to be between 33.2 and 33.25 m and the fracture zone height between 118.08 and 132.83 m. Therefore, the caving ratio is about 3.8, and the fracture ratio is about 13-15, which provides a strong basis for the optimization design of working face and the timing of surface ecological management.

Pleomorphic dermal sarcoma (PDS) and atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) are rare mesenchymal tumors that share similar clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical characteristics. Careful histopathological examination of a biopsy specimen that includes subcutaneous fat remains the preferred way to differentiate between these tumors. AFX is limited to dermal invasion, whereas PDS demonstrates deeper invasion. Moreover, PDS may present with tumor necrosis and high-grade histological findings, such as lymphovascular and perineural invasion, features absent in AFX. However, like PDS, AFX is a diagnosis of exclusion, and an exhaustive immunohistochemistry panel is recommended to distinguish these tumors from other spindled cell tumors in the differential diagnosis. The authors present the case of an 86-year-old man with biopsy-suspected AFX who was referred for Mohs micrographic surgery for tumor excision. During Mohs, the tumor was observed to have invaded deeply into the subcutaneous tissue and galeal aponeurosis, aligning more closely with a PDS. The diagnosis of PDS was confirmed using en face processing during Mohs surgery, which captured the intravascular involvement of a solitary vessel. Differentiating between PDS and AFX is important because PDS is a more aggressive tumor, with a higher rate of local recurrence and metastasis, and requires closer monitoring.

The coincidence of rising ozone concentrations ([O3]), increasing global temperatures, and drought episodes is expected to become more intense and frequent in the future. A better understanding of the responses of crop yield to elevated [O3] under different levels of drought and high temperature stress is, therefore, critical for projecting future food production potential. Using a 15-year open-air field experiment in central Illinois, we assessed the impacts of elevated [O3] coupled with variation in growing season temperature and water availability on soybean seed yield. Thirteen soybean cultivars were exposed to a wide range of season-long elevated [O3] in the field using free-air O3 concentration enrichment. Elevated [O3] treatments reduced soybean seed yield from as little as 5.3% in 2005 to 35.2% in 2010. Although cultivars differed in yield response to elevated [O3] (R), ranging from 17.5% to -76.4%, there was a significant negative correlation between R and O3 dosage. Soybean cultivars showed greater seed yield losses to elevated [O3] when grown at drier or hotter conditions compared to wetter or cooler years, because the hotter and drier conditions were associated with greater O3 treatment. However, year-to-year variation in weather conditions did not influence the sensitivity of soybean seed yield to a given increase in [O3]. Collectively, this study quantitatively demonstrates that, although drought conditions or warmer temperatures led to greater O3 treatment concentrations and O3-induced seed yield reduction, drought and temperature stress did not alter soybean's sensitivity to O3. Our results have important implications for modeling the effects of rising O3 pollution on crops and suggest that altering irrigation practices to mitigate O3 stress may not be effective in reducing crop sensitivity to O3.

This study investigates the dynamics of collaborative characteristics, interpersonal reactivity, and disaster situation responses in non-face-to-face settings, a response mechanism increasingly relevant in the wake of prolonged pandemics. By examining a group of 123 university students engaged in a seven-week non-face-to-face collaborative project, the research identifies relational patterns between collaborative traits such as regulation and efficacy, interpersonal empathy, and responses to disaster situations. The research methodology employs a sophisticated analytical framework comprising factor and canonical correlation analyses to identify how empathy and collaborative efficacy significantly related with disaster response in online collaborations. The mediation and moderation models analyzed confirm mutual mediation effects of collaborative regulation and interpersonal reactivity on situational empathy without significant moderation effects. This suggests there were direct causal relationships of collaborative regulation, collaborative efficacy, interpersonal reactivity on situational empathy. The findings underscore the pivotal role of empathy in collaboration during disasters offering a nuanced understanding of the social and psychological underpinnings that enable collective responses to crises in environments lacking physical interaction and illuminating the critical role of collaborative and interpersonal skills in such settings.

BACKGROUND: Evaluation of glenoid bone loss following recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations is normally performed using cross sectional imaging. OBJECTIVES: To assess how anteroposterior (AP) and Bernageau view radiographs compare to computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and arthroscopy for evaluating glenoid bone loss in patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective observational study was performed on 32 patients over two years at a tertiary orthopedic center. The loss of sclerotic glenoid rim (LSGL) on AP radiograph and the percentage relative glenoid bone loss on the Bernageau radiograph were assessed. The percentage glenoid bone loss and anterior straight line (ASL) were calculated using a best fit en face circle method using CT and MRI. Percentage glenoid bone loss was also calculated during arthroscopy in multiples of 5%. RESULTS: In our study, 90.6% (29) patients were males, while only 9.4% (3) were females. This can be attributed to the involvement of the males in outdoor activities and sports. Also, the maximum number of patients were found to belong to 21-30 years of age, with the mean age being 28.66 years. Of the 32 patients, loss of sclerotic glenoid line (LSGL) on AP radiographs correlated with glenoid bone loss on cross-sectional imaging in 27 patients. Three patients had equivocal LSGL and 2 patients with glenoid bone loss on CT did not demonstrate LSGL. The difference between the two modalities was not statistically significant (p value = 0.002). The glenoid bone loss on Bernageau view correlated with glenoid bone loss on cross sectional imaging in all but one patient. The bone loss as evaluated by radiograph Bernageau view was found to have strong correlation (correlation coefficient r = 0.948, p value < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: AP and Bernageau radiographic views for anterior shoulder dislocations demonstrate good correlation with glenoid bone loss on cross-sectional imaging. They may also be used as an adjunct to predict overall bone loss on CT and at arthroscopy.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) models are being increasingly studied for the detection of variations and pathologies in different imaging modalities. Nasal septal deviation (NSD) is an important anatomical structure with clinical implications. However, AI-based radiographic detection of NSD has not yet been studied. OBJECTIVE: This research aimed to develop and evaluate a real-time model that can detect probable NSD using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. METHODS: Coronal section images were obtained from 204 full-volume CBCT scans. The scans were classified as normal and deviated by 2 maxillofacial radiologists. The images were then used to train and test the AI model. Mask region-based convolutional neural networks (Mask R-CNNs) comprising 3 different backbones-ResNet50, ResNet101, and MobileNet-were used to detect deviated nasal septum in 204 CBCT images. To further improve the detection, an image preprocessing technique (contrast enhancement [CEH]) was added. RESULTS: The best-performing model-CEH-ResNet101-achieved a mean average precision of 0.911, with an area under the curve of 0.921. CONCLUSIONS: The performance of the model shows that the model is capable of detecting nasal septal deviation. Future research in this field should focus on additional preprocessing of images and detection of NSD based on multiple planes using 3D images.

Tomato pomace, the main by-product of tomato processing, is also an underestimated source of many active substances. This study aimed to determine the possibility of using oil obtained from tomato pomace in a face cream formulation. The bacterial community structure, face skin biophysical parameters and protection against air pollution were examined after daily application of the cosmetic by volunteers. In the tomato pomace oil, the profile of fatty acids was determined by GC‒MS, and the profile of volatile compounds was determined using the HS-SPME technique. The dominant bioactive component in the oil was linoleic acid (63.6%), and among the volatile compounds, it was carvotanacetone (25.8%). The application of the cream with tomato pomace oil resulted in an increase in the dominant genera Staphylococcus, Anaerococcus and Cutibacterium in the epibiome, particularly beneficial Staphylococcus epidermidis, while limiting the growth of the potentially opportunistic pathogens Kocuria spp., Micrococcus spp., Veillonella spp., and Rothia spp. This study showed the usefulness of tomato pomace oil as a natural ingredient in skin care cosmetics, reducing skin inflammation, sensitivity and melanin level, with potential protective effects against air pollution and microbiome-balance properties. Tomato pomace, which is commonly considered waste after tomato processing, can be used in the development of new cosmetics and may additionally contribute to reducing environmental nuisance.

Based on the background of ZF2822 island working face in Xiagou Coal Mine, the characteristics of overburden fracture structure and surrounding rock control technology of island working face are explored by means of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field measurement. The results show that the ten morphological structures of the main roof fracture can be divided into four typical symmetrical structures and six asymmetric structures. According to the stress calculation formula of the key block B to the coal pillar, the stress characteristics of the 10 structures are classified and the risk classification is carried out. Four typical structures (a), (b), (c) and (d) were constructed to simulate the stress and strain characteristics of surrounding rock. The overlying strata subsidence displacement values of (a), (b), (c) and (d) at the roadway are 1.75 m, 1.5 m, 0.8 m and 0.6 m respectively, and the maximum stresses are 26.6 MPa, 19.5 MPa, 15.5 MPa and 10.0 MPa respectively, (a) > (b) > (c) > (d). Therefore, the surrounding rock control technology of gob-side roadway in island working face is put forward, the fracture structure of basic roof is determined and the reasonable applicable type of gob-side roadway is selected. The results after pressure relief show that the average daily microseismic energy of ZF2822 working face after pressure relief is 0.87 × 104 J, which is about 42.38% lower than that of April. The average stress is 1.13 MPa lower than that of the mining before the pressure relief area, and the decrease is 22.42%. It shows that the pressure relief has played a very good effect and provides a reference for the same type of mine.

Introduction: Exposure to harmful aerosols is of increasing public health concern due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and wildland fires. These events have prompted risk reduction behaviors, notably the use of disposable respiratory protection. This project investigated whether craniofacial morphology impacts the efficiency of disposable masks (N95, KN95, surgical masks, KF94) most often worn by the public to protect against toxic and infectious aerosols. This project was registered with ClinicaltTrials.gov (NCT05388201; registration May 18, 2022). Methods: One-hundred participants (50 men, 50 women) visited the Environmental Protection Agency's Human Studies Facility in Chapel Hill, NC between 2022-2023. Craniometrics and 3D scans were used to separate participants into four clusters. Boosting and elastic net regression yielded five measurements (bizygomatic breadth, nose length, bizygomatic nasal arc, neck circumference, ear breadth) that were the best predictors of filtration efficiency based on overall model fit. Fitted filtration efficiency was quantified for each mask at baseline and when tightened using an ear-loop clip. Results: The mean unmodified mask performance ranged from 55.3% (15.7%) in the large KF94 to 69.5% (12.3%) in the KN95. Modified performance ranged from 66.3% (9.4%) in the surgical to 80.7% (12.0%) in the KN95. Clusters with larger face width and neck circumference had higher unmodified mask efficiency. Larger nose gap area and nose length decreased modified mask performance. Discussion: We identify face width, nose size, nose shape, neck circumference, and ear breadth as specific features that modulate disposable mask fit in both unmodified and modified conditions. This information can optimize guidance on respiratory protection afforded by disposable ear-loop masks.

Face recognition abilities vary tremendously in the general population. People at the lower end of the spectrum, those with developmental prosopagnosia, report stress, anxiety or social interaction issues due to their poor face recognition abilities. It is thus important to develop adequate diagnostic tools convenient to use for clinicians and to examine relationships between face recognition skills and negative affects. In the present study, we provide a validated French translation of the 20-item prosopagnosia index (PI20), a self-report measure used to detect people with developmental facial identity recognition deficits (Shah et al., 2015; Tsantani et al., 2021). We also examined links between face recognition skills measured with the PI20 and a standard face recognition test (Cambridge face memory test-CFMT; Duchaine & Nakayama, 2006) and measures of social anxiety (social interaction anxiety scale, social phobia scale) and negative affects (state trait anxiety scale, Beck depression inventory). We did not find any significant correlation between the CFMT and measures of psychosocial well-being and only found a weak positive association between the PI20 and social interaction anxiety. Although this association is weak and warrants further research, raising awareness about developmental face recognition issues may help improve the well-being of people with facial identity recognition deficits and provide new investigation or intervention avenues for clinicians who treat patients with social interaction anxiety.

Much of our understanding of how the brain processes dynamic faces comes from research that compares static photographs to dynamic morphs, which exhibit simplified, computer-generated motion. By comparing static, video recorded, and dynamic morphed expressions, we aim to identify the neural correlates of naturalistic facial dynamism, using time-domain and time-frequency analysis. Dynamic morphs were made from the neutral and peak frames of video recorded transitions of happy and fearful expressions, which retained expression change and removed asynchronous and non-linear features of naturalistic facial motion. We found that dynamic morphs elicited increased N400 amplitudes and lower LPP amplitudes compared to other stimulus types. Video recordings elicited higher LPP amplitudes and greater frontal delta activity compared to other stimuli. Thematic analysis of participant interviews using a large language model revealed that participants found it difficult to assess the genuineness of morphed expressions, and easier to analyse the genuineness of happy compared to fearful expressions. Our findings suggest that animating real faces with artificial motion may violate expectations (N400) and reduce the social salience (LPP) of dynamic morphs. Results also suggest that delta oscillations in the frontal region may be involved with the perception of naturalistic facial motion in happy and fearful expressions. Overall, our findings highlight the sensitivity of neural mechanisms required for face perception to subtle changes in facial motion characteristics, which has important implications for neuroimaging research using faces with simplified motion.

Positive mother-infant interactions are important for infant development. Both mother and infant characteristics, such as maternal depression and infant temperamental negative affect are risk factors for adverse mother-infant bonding and infant outcomes. Although these predictors have been researched individually, limited studies have considered them in concert. This study aimed to examine the role of infant age (6-, 9- and 12-months), infant temperamental negative affect, and maternal depression on maternal and infant social positive engagement during the Still-Face procedure. Participants were 85 ethnically-varied mother-infant dyads (44 % girls). Mothers responded to questionnaires, prior to attending the laboratory for the Still-Face procedure (i.e., a task involving a social stressor). Results showed a significant moderating relationship between infant age, infant temperamental negative affect, and maternal depression on infant social positive engagement. For 12-month-old infants, higher infant temperamental negative affect was found to be compounded by greater maternal depression symptoms resulting in significantly lower social positive engagement following a social stressor. This relationship was not found for younger infants. No predictors were associated with maternal social positive engagement. Results from this study contribute to the literature on infant wellbeing. Results highlight the importance of interventions that aim to reduce maternal depression symptoms, especially, as maternal depression may disproportionately influence 12-month-old infants who have negative temperament.

Time of day can alter memory performance in general. Its influence on memory recognition performance for faces, which is important for daily encounters with new persons or testimonies, has not been investigated yet. Importantly, high levels of the stress hormone cortisol impair memory recognition, in particular for emotional material. However, some studies also reported high cortisol levels to enhance memory recognition. Since cortisol levels in the morning are usually higher than in the evening, time of day might also influence recognition performance. In this pre-registered study with a two-day design, 51 healthy men encoded pictures of male and female faces with distinct emotional expressions on day one around noon. Memory for the faces was retrieved two days later at two consecutive testing times either in the morning (high and moderately increased endogenous cortisol levels) or in the evening (low endogenous cortisol levels). Additionally, alertness as well as salivary cortisol levels at the different timepoints was assessed. Cortisol levels were significantly higher in the morning compared to the evening group as expected, while both groups did not differ in alertness. Familiarity ratings for female stimuli were significantly better when participants were tested during moderately increased endogenous cortisol levels in the morning than during low endogenous cortisol levels in the evening, a pattern which was previously also observed for stressed versus non-stressed participants. In addition, cortisol levels during that time in the morning were positively correlated with the recollection of face stimuli in general. Thus, recognition memory performance may depend on the time of day and as well as on stimulus type, such as the difference of male and female faces. Most importantly, the results suggest that cortisol may be meaningful and worth investigating when studying the effects of time of day on memory performance. This research offers both, insights into daily encounters as well as legally relevant domains as for instance testimonies.

Increasing atmospheric CO2 levels change the elemental composition in plants, altering their nutritional quality and affecting consumers and ecosystems. Ecological stoichiometry provides a framework for investigating how CO2-driven nutrient dilution in pollen affects bees by linking changes in pollen chemical element proportions to the nutritional needs of bees. We investigated the consequences of five years of Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) in a mature oak-dominated temperate forest on the elemental composition of English oak (Quercus robur) pollen. We measured the concentrations and proportions of 12 elements (C, N, P, S, K, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn) in Q. robur pollen-bearing flowers collected from the Birmingham Institute for Forest Research (BIFoR) FACE facility. An elevated CO2 (eCO2) level of 150 ppm above ambient significantly reduced the S, K, and Fe levels and altered the multi-element ratio, with different elements behaving differently. This shift in pollen multi-element composition may have subsequent cascading effects on higher trophic levels. To assess the impact on bees, we calculated the stoichiometric mismatch (a measure of the discrepancy between consumer needs and food quality) for two bee species, Osmia bicornis (red mason bee) and Apis mellifera (honey bee), that consume oak pollen in nature. We observed stoichiometric mismatches for P and S, in pollen under eCO2, which could negatively affect bees. We highlight the need for a comprehensive understanding of the changes in pollen multi-element stoichiometry under eCO2, which leads to nutrient limitations under climate change with consequences for bees.

No study has examined the simultaneous effect of facial forms, midline deviations and midline angulations on facial beauty. Therefore, this comprehensive study aimed to evaluate these and many other hypotheses. This psychometric study was performed on 15,042 observations. A female frontal photograph was edited to 45 perceptometric images with controlled anatomical alteration: 3 facial forms (euryprosopic [brachyfacial], mesoprosopic [mesofacial], leptoprosopic [dolichofacial]), each having either 9 bidirectional midline deviations (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mm deviated to the left and right) or 7 bidirectional midline angular deviations (0°, 5°, 10°, and 15° deviated to the left and right). One of the photographs were repeated. These 46 images were esthetically judged by 327 participants (243 laypeople, 49 orthodontists, and 35 'prosthodontists or restorative dentists'). Hierarchical mixed-model multiple linear regressions and post hoc tests were adopted to evaluate the simultaneous impacts of the photomodel's facial forms, midline deviations to the right or left, and midline rolls to the right or left plus sex, age, experience, and dental specialty of the referees on their perception of facial beauty as well as the tolerable zones of midline alterations. These were also done separately for each specialty group, and also for each facial face. Ideal combinations of anatomic features were determined using repeated-measures ANOVAs. Differences between esthetic preferences of different groups in terms of each image were assessed using one-way ANOVAs and t-tests (α = 0.05, α = 0.008, α = 0.001). All 5 anatomical features significantly and independently influenced perception of facial beauty. The tolerance threshold for midline deviations was 1 mm deviations to the right and left sides. For midline rolls, the only tolerable form was the no-roll ('on') midline; the judges preferred right-oriented defects over left-sided ones. The most beautiful facial form was mesoprosopic, followed by leptoprosopic. Men perceived the female face slightly more attractive than did women. The viewers' specialty (or lack of it), their age, or their experience did not affect their esthetic preferences. Predictors of esthetic preferences were all 5 anatomical features plus views' sex, but not their dental specialty, age, or experience. Zones of acceptability and also the ideal range of anatomical features were determined.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the impact of wearing N95 and surgical masks on carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations during various activity levels, to understand the implications for mask use in different settings, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Study design: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. Methods: A systematic review was conducted, retrieving 6798 articles from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Twenty-nine articles met the inclusion criteria. Mask types were categorized into N95 and surgical masks, while activities were classified as low, medium, and high. Results: The meta-analysis revealed CO2 concentrations (mmHg) for different scenarios: No mask (37.91, 95 % CI: 36.46, 39.35), N95-low (36.83, 95 % CI: 33.57, 40.10), N95-moderate (37.85, 95 % CI: 36.51, 39.20), N95-high (39.51, 95 % CI: 38.00, 41.02), N95 with exhalation valve (35.82, 95 % CI: 32.89, 38.75), N95 without exhalation valve (38.45, 95 % CI: 37.10, 39.81), surgical mask-low (38.31, 95 % CI: 34.48, 42.14), surgical mask-moderate (35.05, 95 % CI: 31.12, 38.97), surgical mask-high (36.07, 95 % CI: 34.18, 37.96). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that N95 masks lead to higher CO2 accumulation during various activities compared to surgical masks. Moreover, surgical masks exhibit higher CO2 concentrations during low activity compared to moderate and high activities. Notably, CO2 concentrations are higher in N95 masks without an exhalation valve compared to those with a valve. No significant difference was observed between not wearing a mask and wearing either N95 or surgical masks in terms of CO2 accumulation. These results provide important insights for mask selection and usage recommendations in different scenarios.

Purpose: Facial basal cell carcinoma (BCC) poses significant challenges due to its potential for local destruction and impact on quality of life (QoL). Continuous research is necessary to identify novel factors influencing the quality of life within this demographic across diverse cultural settings. The aims of this study were to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Lithuanian version of Skin Cancer Index, subsequently utilizing this questionnaire in the pilot phase of the study to achieve the following: (1) identify the differences in short- and long-term QoL, (2) establish empirical correlations between SCI scores and aesthetic facial regions, evaluate the potential differences between age, gender, and tumor size groups. Patients and Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted with 100 consecutive patients. The SCI was translated into Lithuanian language, with a rigorous assessment of its psychometric properties to confirm validity. Alongside hypothesis testing, a detailed analysis of variables was conducted. Statistical techniques, including t-tests and ANOVA, were employed to compare scores across demographic and clinical groups, with effect size calculations for further interpretation. Results: Our findings demonstrate that the Lithuanian SCI successfully fulfills the criteria established by the COSMIN checklist. Surgical treatment for facial BCC notably enhances QoL, particularly evident six months post-surgery. Analysis of SCI scores identified demographic and clinical factors associated with lower QoL, including female gender, treatment with skin plasty, and tumor sites in aesthetically sensitive areas like the cheek, nose, and eyelid. Conclusion: The Lithuanian version of the SCI is a reliable and valid tool for assessing QoL in facial BCC patients. Our findings underscore the global relevance of understanding the multifactorial influences on QoL in BCC patients. Early diagnosis, less invasive treatment approaches, and tailored post-operative care are crucial in minimizing the psychological, social, and appearance-related burdens of facial BCC.

Aim: This article aims to report a case of face mask therapy and comprehensive orthodontic treatment for skeletal class III malocclusion in a 16-year-old girl. Background: Treating skeletal class III malocclusion in a growing patient is crucial, as it can help avoid the need for additional surgery. Early treatment also lessens the negative impacts of the patient's facial abnormality on their social life because surgery is only done later. Case description: In this case report, a 14-year-old female patient presented with skeletal class III malocclusion with primary complaints of anterior crossbite. There was no relevant medical history. Face mask therapy and fixed appliance therapy were components of the treatment approach that successfully corrected the malocclusion. The total period of treatment was 20 months. Conclusion: The treatment resulted in a harmonious face, a well-aligned smile arch, stable dental and skeletal relationships, and significant esthetic improvements, including improved facial symmetry and profile. Significance: A growing teen who has a skeletal class III malocclusion and a maxillary deficit may be helped by a combination of face mask therapy and thorough orthodontic treatment. This case report outlines the use of the aforementioned technique to successfully treat a 14-year-old child with class III malocclusion and maxillary deficiencies.Early management of skeletal class III malocclusion in developing adolescents is vital as it can potentially eliminate the necessity for future surgical intervention, leading to improved treatment outcomes.Careful case selection, patient cooperation, and long-term stability enable a successful, stable, and esthetically pleasing treatment outcome.
