A osteonecrose dos maxilares induzida por medicamentos (MRONJ) caracteriza-se por exposição óssea ou osso que pode ser sondado através de fístula intra ou extraoral, em região maxilofacial, e que não cicatriza dentro de oito semanas. A MRONJ é uma condição rara e debilitante que pode causar dor, disfagia e odor desagradável na cavidade oral, afetando pacientes com histórico ou sob uso contínuo de terapia antirreabsortiva, isolada ou associada a imunomoduladores ou drogas antiangiogênicas, mas sem histórico de radioterapia nos maxilares. O objetivo desta revisão narrativa de literatura é compilar os principais aspectos sobre a etiopatogenia da MRONJ e as opções terapêuticas disponíveis. A etiologia da MRONJ é multifatorial, complexa, e não está totalmente compreendida, não havendo um tratamento definitivo, mas diversas modalidades terapêuticas que visam o controle da dor e da progressão da osteonecrose. Conclui-se com essa revisão que o entendimento da etiopatogenia da MRONJ pelo cirurgião-dentista lhe permite adotar medidas preventivas, bem como o conhecimento das modalidades terapêuticas disponíveis lhe possibilita oferecer o manejo adequado para seu paciente, conforme o estágio da doença.


Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is characterized by exposed bone or bone that can be probed through an intra or extraoral fistula, in the maxillofacial region, which does not heal within eight weeks. MRONJ is a rare and debilitating condition that can cause pain, dysphagia and unpleasant odor in the oral cavity, affecting patients with a history or continuous use of antiresorptive therapy, alone or associated with immunomodulators or antiangiogenic drugs, but without a history of radiotherapy to the jaws. The aim of this narrative literature review is to compile the main aspects about the etiopathogenesis of MRONJ and the available therapeutic options. The etiology of MRONJ is multifactorial, complex, and is not fully understood, with no definitive treatment, but several therapeutic modalities that aim to control pain and the progression of osteonecrosis. It is concluded from this review that the understanding of the etiopathogenesis of MRONJ by the dental surgeon allows him to adopt preventive measures, as well as the knowledge of the therapeutic modalities available allows him to offer the appropriate management for his patient, depending on the stage of the disease.

A atenção primária em saúde (APS) é o primeiro nível de atenção em saúde, sendo um elo entre a população e o setor de saúde. Tem-se buscado a humanização dos atendimentos, e essa mudança, refletida pelas mudanças da sociedade, trouxe a implementação da Política Nacional de Práticas Integrativas e Complementares (PNPIC) no SUS. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma análise da tendência da quantidade das práticas integrativas e complementares realizadas nas regionais de saúde de Sergipe de 2017 a 2023, associando com a cobertura da atenção primária. Foi realizada análise de dados secundários através do Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS), como forma de organização no período de junho/2015 a junho/2023 por regional de saúde de Sergipe. As análises dos dados foram descritivas e de correlação e por meio de análise de série temporal. A regional de saúde de Lagarto foi a que mais executou as práticas integrativas e complementares no período analisado e algumas regionais não tiveram continuidade na realização destas práticas. A regional de saúde com maior cobertura de APS foi Itabaiana. Não foi possível observar associação entre o número de práticas e a cobertura de atenção primária. Com o intuito de que o atendimento aos indivíduos seja cada vez mais humanizado, e em virtude da realização das práticas integrativas ter baixo índice ou descontinuidade em algumas regiões de Saúde de Sergipe, é relevante que os profissionais de saúde busquem conhecimentos sobre essas práticas, como também, os gestores em saúde incentivem esta ação.


Primary health care (PHC) is the first level of health care, being a link between the population and the health sector. The aim has been to humanize care, and this change, reflected by changes in society, has led to the implementation of the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in the SUS. The objective of this work was to carry out an analysis of the trend in the number of integrative and complementary practices carried out in the health regions of Sergipe from 2017 to 2023, associating it with primary care coverage. Secondary data analysis was carried out through the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), as a form of organization from June/2015 to June/2023 by health region in Sergipe. Data analyzes were descriptive and correlational and through time series analysis. The Lagarto health region was the one that carried out the most integrative and complementary practices in the period analyzed and some regions did not continue to carry out these practices. The health region with the highest PHC coverage was Itabaiana. Observing an association between the number of practices and primary care coverage was impossible. With the aim that care for individuals is increasingly humanized, and because the implementation of integrative practices has a low rate or discontinuity in some Health regions of Sergipe, health professionals must seek knowledge about these practices as well as health managers encourage this action.

Significance: Oral cancer surgery requires accurate margin delineation to balance complete resection with post-operative functionality. Current in vivo fluorescence imaging systems provide two-dimensional margin assessment yet fail to quantify tumor depth prior to resection. Harnessing structured light in combination with deep learning (DL) may provide near real-time three-dimensional margin detection. Aim: A DL-enabled fluorescence spatial frequency domain imaging (SFDI) system trained with in silico tumor models was developed to quantify the depth of oral tumors. Approach: A convolutional neural network was designed to produce tumor depth and concentration maps from SFDI images. Three in silico representations of oral cancer lesions were developed to train the DL architecture: cylinders, spherical harmonics, and composite spherical harmonics (CSHs). Each model was validated with in silico SFDI images of patient-derived tongue tumors, and the CSH model was further validated with optical phantoms. Results: The performance of the CSH model was superior when presented with patient-derived tumors ( P -value < 0.05 ). The CSH model could predict depth and concentration within 0.4 mm and 0.4 µ g / mL , respectively, for in silico tumors with depths less than 10 mm. Conclusions: A DL-enabled SFDI system trained with in silico CSH demonstrates promise in defining the deep margins of oral tumors.

Hydrophobic bioactive compounds like astaxanthin (AST) exhibit poor water solubility and low bioavailability. Liposomes, which serve as nanocarriers, are known for their excellent biocompatibility and minimal immunogenicity. Traditionally, liposomes have been primarily constructed using phospholipids and cholesterol. However, the intake of cholesterol may pose a risk to human health. Phytosterol ester was reported to reduce level of cholesterol and improve properties of liposomes. In this study, phytosterol oleate was used to prepare liposomes instead of cholesterol to deliver AST (AST-P-Lip). The size range of AST-P-Lip was 100-220 nm, and the morphology was complete and uniform. In vitro studies showed that AST-P-Lip significantly enhanced the antioxidant activity and oral bioavailability of AST. During simulated digestion, AST-P-Lip protected AST from damage by gastric and intestinal digestive fluid. Additionally, AST-P-Lip had a good storage stability and safety. These results provide references for the preparation of novel liposomes and the delivery of bioactive compounds.

AIM: To evaluate the impact of the surface decoration of cannabidiol (CBD) loaded self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) on the efficacy of the formulations to cross the various barriers faced by orally administered drugs. METHODS: Polyethylene glycol (PEG)-free polyglycerol (PG)-based SEDDS, mixed zwitterionic phosphatidyl choline (PC)/PEG-containing SEDDS and PEG-based SEDDS were compared regarding stability against lipid degrading enzymes, surface properties, permeation across porcine mucus, cellular uptake and cytocompatibility. RESULTS: SEDDS with a size of about 200 nm with narrow size distributions were developed and loaded with 20-21 % of CBD. For PG containing PEG-free SEDDS increased degradation by lipid degrading enzymes was observed compared to PEG-containing formulations. The surface hydrophobicity of placebo SEDDS increased in the order of PG-based to mixed PC/PEG-based to PEG-based SEDDS. The influence of this surface hydrophobicity was also observed on the ability of the SEDDS to cross the mucus gel layer where highest mucus permeation was achieved for most hydrophobic PEG-based SEDDS. Highest cellular internalization was observed for PEG-based Lumogen Yellow (LY) loaded SEDDS with 92 % in Caco-2 cells compared to only 30 % for mixed PC/PEG-based SEDDS and 1 % for PG-based SEDDS, leading to a 100-fold improvement in cellular uptake for SEDDS having highest surface hydrophobicity. For cytocompatibility all developed placebo SEDDS showed similar results with a cell survival of above 75 % for concentrations below 0.05 % on Caco-2 cells. CONCLUSION: Higher surface hydrophobicity of SEDDS to orally deliver lipophilic drugs as CBD seems to be a promising approach to increase the intracellular drug concentration by an enhanced permeation through the mucus layer and cellular internalization.

There have been reports of potential health risks for people from hydrophobic organic pollutants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated hydrocarbons (PCHs), and organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs). When a contaminated site is used for residential housing or public utility and recreation areas, the soil-bound organic pollutants might pose a threat to human health. In this study, we investigated the contamination profiles and potential risks to human health of 15 PAHs, 6 PCHs, and 12 OPFRs in soils from four contaminated sites in China. We used an in vitro method to determine the oral bioaccessibility of soil pollutants. Total PAHs were found at concentrations ranging from 26.4 ng/g to 987 ng/g. PCHs (0.27‒14.3 ng/g) and OPFRs (6.30‒310 ng/g) were detected, but at low levels compared to earlier reports. The levels of PAHs, PCHs, and OPFRs released from contaminated soils into simulated gastrointestinal fluids ranged from 1.74% to 91.0%, 2.51% to 39.6%, and 1.37% to 96.9%, respectively. Based on both spiked and unspiked samples, we found that the oral bioaccessibility of pollutants was correlated with their logKow and molecular weight, and the total organic carbon content and pH of soils. PAHs in 13 out of 38 contaminated soil samples posed potential high risks to children. When considering oral bioaccessibility, nine soils still posed potential risks, while the risks in the remaining soils became negligible. The contribution of this paper is that it corrects the health risk of soil-bound organic pollutants by detecting bioaccessibility in actual soils from different contaminated sites.

Due to their underdeveloped physiological maturity, preterm infants often face challenges related to sucking, breathing, and swallowing coordination during initial feeding. This lack of coordination may lead to episodes of apnea and choking, resulting in unstable vital signs. Preterm infants with this issue must gradually learn oral feeding skills appropriate to their developmental stage. Registered nurses play a critical role in assessing the right time to transition from tube to oral feeding and in providing a safe and positive oral feeding experience. In this article, three validated assessment tools for feeding premature infants are introduced, accompanied by clinical research data demonstrating their use in clinical practice. These three tools include: (1) the Neonatal Oral Motor Assessment Scale, which is applied to evaluate oral motor skills using observations of nonnutritive sucking and the sucking state during the two minutes before feeding; (2) the Premature Oral Feeding Readiness Assessment Scale, which is used to assess readiness for oral feeding in preterm infants; and (3) the Early Feeding Skills assessment, which is used to evaluate the oral feeding skills of preterm infants. These tools aid nurses in helping preterm infants achieve independent oral feeding, facilitating earlier discharge and return to home. The clinical implications and effectiveness of these tools are also discussed to provide to nurses the means and confidence necessary to apply them appropriately in clinical settings.

BACKGROUND: People with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) or hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSDs) are at greater risk of developing temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), perhaps due to the general joint hypermobility. There is, however, no information on how oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is affected in people with hEDS or HSD with TMD. The authors' aim was to assess OHRQoL via the 14-item, short version Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), as well as associated risk factors in women with TMD symptoms and confirmed hEDS or HSD. METHODS: A digital questionnaire was sent to members of The Swedish National EDS Association who reported having a confirmed or suspected EDS or HSD diagnosis in the health care system from January through March 2022. Then, a sample of 133 women with confirmed hEDS or HSD and TMD symptoms was constructed, and information on the following variables was collected: TMD symptoms, age, general health, oral health-related factors, comorbid symptoms, and psychological factors. Linear regression analysis was conducted to investigate the association between these variables and the OHIP-14 summary score as the outcome. RESULTS: Most participants reported TMD pain symptoms (93.9%), temporomandibular joint clicking (89.5%), and crepitation (55.6%). The mean (SD) total OHIP-14 summary score was 21.0 (13.2). Oral function had the lowest impact (2.0 [2.4]) and orofacial pain had the highest impact on OHRQoL (3.9 [2.5]). Self-reported bruxism, poor general health, and comorbid symptoms were significantly associated with impaired OHRQoL. CONCLUSIONS: Women with confirmed hEDS or HSD and TMD symptoms have a considerably impaired OHRQoL. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The multidimensional phenomenon of OHRQoL in this group needs to be considered in management strategies.

INTRODUCTION: Histo-blood group antigen (HBGA) phenotypes may contribute to poor oral rotavirus vaccine (RVV) immunogenicity, since rotavirus binds intestinal epithelial HBGA glycans, while maternal HBGA status shapes breastmilk composition, which influences the composition of the infant microbiome. We investigated associations between maternal/infant HBGA phenotypes and RVV immunogenicity in rural Zimbabwe. METHODS: We undertook salivary FUT2/FUT3 phenotyping in mother-infant pairs. Serum anti-rotavirus IgA was measured by ELISA. We explored adjusted associations between FUT2/FUT3 status and RVV seroconversion (primary outcome, N=322), and seropositivity and geometric mean titre (secondary outcomes, N=776). RESULTS: Infants of FUT2-positive or FUT3-positive women were less likely to seroconvert post-RVV than infants of FUT2-negative or FUT3-negative women (FUT2-positive 20.1% versus FUT2-negative 27.5%, adjusted relative risk (aRR) 0.47, 95%CI 0.26, 0.82; P=0.008; FUT3-positive 18.1% versus FUT3-negative 30.0%, aRR 0.45, 95%CI 0.25, 0.78; P=0.005). Compared to FUT2-positive infants with FUT2-positive mothers, FUT2-positive infants with FUT2-negative mothers were twice as likely to seroconvert (36.8% versus 21.9%, aRR 2.12, 95%CI 1.23, 3.63; P=0.006). Compared to FUT3-positive infants with FUT3-positive mothers, FUT3-positive infants with FUT3-negative mothers were three times as likely to seroconvert (48.3% versus 18.2%, aRR 2.99, 95%CI 1.82, 4.90; P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Maternal and infant FUT2 and FUT3 status influences infant RVV immunogenicity.

An oral colon-targeted drug delivery system holds great potential in preventing systemic toxicity and preserving the therapeutic benefits of ulcerative colitis (UC) treatment. In this study, we developed a negatively charged PLGA-PEG nanoparticle system for encapsulating naringin (Nar). Additionally, chitosan and mannose were coated on the surface of these nanoparticles to enhance their mucosal adsorption and macrophage targeting abilities. The resulting nanoparticles, termed MC@Nar-NPs, exhibited excellent resistance against decomposition in the strong acidic gastrointestinal environment and specifically accumulated at inflammatory sites. Upon payload release, MC@Nar-NPs demonstrated remarkable efficacy in alleviating colon inflammation as evidenced by reduced levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in both blood and colon tissues, as well as the scavenging of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the colon. This oral nanoparticle delivery system represents a novel approach to treating UC by utilizing Chinese herbal ingredient-based oral delivery and provides a theoretical foundation for local and precise intervention in specific UC treatment.

Oral ulcers are a common oral mucosal disease that seriously affect the quality of life. Traditional drug treatments have shown unsatisfactory efficacy and potential adverse reactions. In this study, curcumin-loaded multifunctional magnesium metal-organic framework-embedded hyaluronic acid-soluble microneedles patches were developed to optimize treatment strategies for oral ulcers. This microneedles patch achieves efficient release of curcumin and Mg2+ in the ulcer through precisely targeted delivery and controllable release mechanism, significantly regulates inflammation, promotes cell migration and angiogenesis, and accelerates the ulcer healing process. At the same time, the synergistic effect of curcumin and gallic acid effectively alleviated oxidative stress, while the backplate ε-poly-L-lysine and needle tip Mg2+ jointly constructed an antibacterial barrier to effectively inhibit pathogens. Verification using an oral ulcer rat model showed that the microneedles patch exhibited excellent therapeutic effects. This not only opens up a new avenue for clinical oral treatment but also marks a breakthrough in nanobiomaterials science and drug delivery technology and heralds a broad prospect in the field of oral ulcer treatment in the future.

BACKGROUND: The general education course, Oral Science, has been offered by Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University for many years in order to improve students' knowledge of oral health. Information about the oral health knowledge, status, and behaviors among undergraduates who had taken Oral Science was collected to evaluate the impact of this course, and to provide a basis for further improvement of the course teaching quality. METHODS: Undergraduates taking Oral Science as an elective course were selected as the research subjects. The research time is the second semester of the 2022 academic year, from February 2023 to June 2023. Undergraduates who had not taken the course served as the control group. To investigate the oral health knowledge, status, and behaviors among undergraduate students who have taken the general education course of Oral Science, course students and non-course students were asked to fill out the same questionnaire at both the beginning and end of semester. The answer scores and accuracy of these two groups were compared and analyzed. Before and after the first lesson, and at the end of the semester, course students were asked to fill out the same oral knowledge questionnaire. Another questionnaire was released in week 10 to collect the data of the course students' oral health status and behaviors. The control group completed the same oral knowledge questionnaire at the beginning and end of the semester, respectively. SPSS 20.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data. Statistical significance level was set at 0.05 for all tests. RESULTS: At the beginning of the semester, there was no significant difference in the accuracy of the 16 questions nor the scores between two groups (P > 0.05). After one semester of learning, the accuracy of the 16 questions answered by the course students at the end of the semester was significantly higher (P < 0.05), as well as the score of the course students. CONCLUSION: The general education course of Oral Science can significantly improve undergraduates' general knowledge of dentistry and effectively improve their oral hygiene behavior.

Per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is an innovative minimally invasive technique and has emerged as the preferred modality for treating achalasia and spastic esophageal disorders in numerous specialized centers worldwide. Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is a common complication following POEM procedures. Recently, an article in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, providing a comprehensive update on post-POEM GER. RESUMO

With the in-depth knowledge of the pathological and physiological characteristics of the intestinal barrier-portal vein/intestinal lymphatic vessels-systemic circulation axis, oral targeted drug delivery is frequently being renewed. With many advantages, such as high safety, convenient administration, and good patient compliance, many researchers have begun to explore targeted drug delivery from intravenous injections to oral administration. Over the past few decades, the fields of materials science and nanomedicine have produced various drug delivery platforms that hold great potential in overcoming the multiple barriers associated with oral drug delivery. However, the oral transport of particles into the systemic circulation is extremely difficult due to immune rejection and biochemical invasion in the intestine, which limits absorption and entry into the bloodstream. The feasibility of the oral delivery of targeted drugs to sites outside the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is unknown. This article reviews the biological barriers to drug absorption, the in vivo fate and transport mechanisms of drug carriers, the theoretical basis for oral administration, and the impact of carrier structural evolution on oral administration to achieve this goal. Finally, this article reviews the characteristics of different nano-delivery systems that can enhance the bioavailability of oral therapeutics and highlights their applications in the efficient creation of oral anticancer nanomedicines.

Introduction: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) alters the pharynx, which may affect airway size. MRI will be useful for diagnosing pharyngeal abnormalities. MRI is used to evaluate pharyngeal airway and soft palate changes in OSMF patients. Materials and methods: This study is a cross-sectional observational study that included a sample size of 42 patients. Group A consisted of 21 patients with OSMF, while Group B consisted of 21 volunteers without OSMF, who served as the control group. The patients with OSMF were classified into Stages I, II, and III according to the categorization established by Pindborg JJ in 1989, Stop-Bang questionnaire was employed to assess obstructive sleep apnoea. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was utilized to acquire evaluations of the pharyngeal airway, encompassing measurements in the midsagittal, cross-sectional width, length planes, and cross-sectional area with volume, for all participants. The Shapiro-Wilk test determines distribution normality. We utilized one-way ANOVA to compare the means between groups. Results: The average age of OSMF patients was 45.9 ± 8.16, while the control group was 39.19 ± 4.21. Stage I of OSMF had the highest mean Stop Bang questionnaire score (2.75), followed by stage III (2.22), and stage II (1.75). Statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) were seen in volume, linear midsagittal planes, cross-sectional width and length planes, cross-sectional area, and soft palate breadth and length between OSMF and control groups. Conclusion: MRI can effectively examine early changes in the pharyngeal airway of patients with OSMF thereby serving as a constructive diagnostic and motivational tool.

Aim: The study aimed to translate the OHIP-EDENT into Hindi and assess its validity and reliability. Methods: The study included 150 participants whose demographic information was collected using the Modified Kuppuswamy Socio-economic Scale. The Oral Health Impact Profile in Edentulous (OHIP-EDENT) was translated into Hindi using the standard forward-backward method. Test-retest reliability was assessed using the Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and Bartlett's test of sphericity coefficient were used to conduct Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and confirm the Construct validity. To establish Convergent validity, the relationship between the global question and the OHIP-EDENT-H subscale scores was observed. Results: The data was analyzed with a confidence level of 95 %, and statistical significance was interpreted as a p-value of less than 0.05. The Cronbach's alpha score for OHIP-EDENT-H was 1.00, indicating high internal consistency. The corrected item-total correlations ranged from 0.665 to 0.923, and the total ICC score was 0.763, demonstrating good reliability. The subscales' intra-class correlation coefficient values ranged from 0.968 to 0.997, indicating high reliability. However, items 4, 6, 13, 17, 18, and 19 had factor loadings below the acceptable threshold of 0.40 in the factor analysis. Additionally, the total and subscale scores of the OHIP-EDENT-H showed significant correlations with global question, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.665 to 0.923. Conclusion: The Hindi version of OHIP-EDENT is a reliable and valid tool for evaluating the OHRQoL of Hindi-speaking edentulous individuals.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a reliable method to resect early esophageal cancer. Esophageal stricture is one of the major complications after ESD of the esophagus. Steroid prophylaxis for esophageal strictures, particularly local injection of triamcinolone acetonide (TA), is a relatively effective method to prevent esophageal strictures. However, even with steroid prophylaxis, stenosis still occurs in up to 45% of patients. Predicting the risk of stenosis formation after local TA injection would enable additional interventions in risky patients. AIM: To identify the predictors of esophageal strictures after steroids application. METHODS: Patients who underwent esophageal ESD and steroid prophylaxis and who were comprehensively assessed for lesion- and ESD-related factors at Southeast University Affiliated Zhongda Hospital between February 2018 and March 2023 were included in the study. The univariate and multivariate regression analyses were conducted to identify the predictors of stricture among patients undergoing steroid prophylaxis. RESULTS: A total of 120 patients were included in the analysis. In the oral prednisone and oral prednisone combined with local tretinoin injection groups, the stenosis rates were 44/53 (83.0%) and 56/67 (83.6%), respectively. Among them, univariate analysis showed that the lesion circumference (P = 0.01) and submucosal injection solution (P = 0.04) showed significant correlation with the risk of stenosis formation. Logistic regression analyses were then performed using predictors that were significant in the univariate analyses and combined with known predictors from previous reports, such as additional chemoradiotherapy and tumor location. We identified a lesion circumference < 5/6 (OR = 0.19; P = 0.02) and submucosal injection of sodium hyaluronate (OR = 0.15; P = 0.03) as independent predictors of on esophageal stricture formation. CONCLUSION: Steroid prophylaxis effectively prevents stenosis. Moreover, the lesion circumference and submucosal injection of sodium hyaluronate were independent predictors of esophageal strictures. Additional interventions should be considered in high-risk patients.

Objective: To explore the diagnostic value of glycated CD59 (gCD59) in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: A total of 707 pregnant women who underwent the first visit in the obstetric outpatient clinic of the Affliated Suqian Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2022 to July 2023 were included, and were grouped according to the International Association of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups(IADPSG) diagnostic criteria, and finally 113 cases in the GDM group and 559 cases in the normal glucose tolerance (NGT) group were included, and the concentration of gCD59 was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The baseline data characteristics of the two groups were compared, the risk factors for GDM were explored by multivariate binary logistic analysis, and the diagnostic value of gCD59 in predicting GDM was explored by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: The level of gCD59 in the GDM group was significantly higher than that in the NGT group (1.49 SPU vs 0.87 SPU). Multivariate regression analysis showed that gCD59, diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) were independent risk factors for GDM.The area under the curve (AUC) of gCD59 for the diagnosis of GDM was 0.681 (95% CI: 0.583-0.717), with a sensitivity of 71.7% and a specificity of 58.3%. In combination with fasting glucose, gCD59 effectively diagnosed GDM with higher AUC of 0.871 (95% CI: 0.708-1.000). Conclusion: gCD59 is an independent risk factor for GDM and a good biomarker for the diagnosis of GDM.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to gather data on Canadian nursing programs regarding oral health curriculum and attitudes towards oral health curriculum to evaluate the level of oral health education in nursing programs and provide a reference for understanding dental and oral health in the nursing field. METHODS: Data to inform models for oral health curriculum in nursing were collected through an online survey using a secured google form. The web-based questionnaire examined main aspects of dental and oral health in nursing educational institutions. Eligibility criteria for this study included faculty members of an accredited nursing program in Canada. RESULTS: Of the 76 institutions approached, a total of 47 nursing faculty members from 35 nursing programs responded to the online survey. The vast majority (85.1 %) of the participants stated they believe oral health should be taught within nursing programs. Relating to the current curriculum, 70.2 % of the respondents stated their institution currently teaches anatomy relating to the oral cavity, but only 38.3 % reported their institution implemented oral diseases and pathology into the curriculum. Moreover, 48.9 % of the participants noted that dental screening was not covered in the nursing curriculum; 27.7 % of the respondents stated that their institution implemented education regarding gum disease, 25.5 % noted implementing education regarding oral cancer and oral lesions screening. Overall, 80.9 % of the participants noted that future nurses should be educated about oral cancer and disease prevention. However, in order to implement dental and oral health curriculums, participants noted certain needs such as time to implement curriculum (87.2 %) and more knowledge about the topic (83 %). CONCLUSIONS: There is a current lack of content regarding dental and oral health in the curriculum of nursing programs throughout Canada. Due to this deficiency, many nursing graduates lack general knowledge about various aspects of dental and oral health.
