RESUMO

Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), a conductive polymer, has gained popularity as the channel layer in organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) due to its high conductivity and straightforward processing. However, difficulties arise in controlling its conductivity through gate voltage, presenting a challenge. To address this issue, aromatic amidine base, diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene (DBN), is used to stabilize the doping state of the PEDOT chain through a reliable chemical de-doping process. Furthermore, the addition of the proton-penetrable material Nafion to the PEDOT:PSS channel layer induces phase separation between the substances. By utilizing a solution containing both PEDOT:PSS and Nafion as the channel layer of OECTs, the efficiency of ion movement into the channel from the electrolyte is enhanced, resulting in improved OECT performance. The inclusion of Nafion in the OECTs' channel layer modifies ion movement dynamics, allowing for the adjustment of synaptic properties such as pulse-paired facilitation, memory level, short-term plasticity, and long-term plasticity. This research aims to introduce new possibilities in the field of neuromorphic computing and contribute to biomimetic technology through the enhancement of electronic component performance.

RESUMO

We developed new measurement configurations based on organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). Three types of COOH-functionalized bioreceptor layers were deposited on indium tin oxide (ITO) electrodes on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrates and their performance was tested using single gate functionalization organic electrochemical transistor (S-OECT) and dual gate functionalization organic electrochemical transistor (D-OECT) configurations. The three layers included one p-type semiconductor, one insulator, and one self-assembled layer, and the dual gates were connected in series through buffer solutions, so the solution-electrode interfaces had the opposite polarities. We investigated the sensitivities of these systems using the human IgG antigen-human IgG antibody receptor pair for main experiments, and drifts of antibody-functionalized gates without analytes as control experiments. Drifts without analyte can obscure the real sensitivity. We show that the D-OECT has the capability to cancel the drifts, and is also beneficial for showing the sensitivity more exactly. This configuration has the ability to increase the accuracy of antibody-antigen interaction detection, and further decrease or eliminate the effect of ions in the buffer solution. We also prove that the D-OECT can work well with different bioreceptor materials, which indicates that the system can be further applied to different conditions.

RESUMO

Polar polythiophenes with oligoethylene glycol side chains are exceedingly soft materials. A low glass transition temperature and low degree of crystallinity prevents their use as a bulk material. The synthesis of a copolymer comprising 1) soft polythiophene blocks with tetraethylene glycol side chains, and 2) hard urethane segments is reported. The molecular design is contrary to that of other semiconductor-insulator copolymers, which typically combine a soft nonconjugated spacer with hard conjugated segments. Copolymerization of polar polythiophenes and urethane segments results in a ductile material that can be used as a free-standing solid. The copolymer displays a storage modulus of 25 MPa at room temperature, elongation at break of 95%, and a reduced degree of swelling due to hydrogen bonding. Both chemical doping and electrochemical oxidation reveal that the introduction of urethane segments does not unduly reduce the hole charge-carrier mobility and ability to take up charge. Further, stable operation is observed when the copolymer is used as the active layer of organic electrochemical transistors.
