RESUMO

Different scented teas provide various choices for consumers from appearance, aroma, flavor and others. Aiming to define advantages and market positions of different scented teas and promote optimization of market structure, characteristics for scented tea favored by consumers and outstanding attributes of different scented teas should be clarified. Rose tea was taken as study object. Sensory evaluation and consumer acceptance were investigated. GC-MS and HPLC fingerprints were established. Physicochemical characteristics were determined. RGB integration analysis was inventively proposed for correlation analysis. The volatile compounds with spicy, green or herbal odor as camphene, ß-phenethyl acetate, eugenol, and physicochemical parameters as antioxidant capacity, reducing sugar content, pH showed positive correlation with popular sensory properties. Six models for consumer preference by objective description were built through GA-SVR (accuracy = 1), and APP was developed. The research mode of scented tea has been successfully established to study multiple subjective characteristics with measurable objective parameters.

BACKGROUND: Studies are exploring ways to improve medication adherence, with sentiment analysis (SA) being an underutilized innovation in pharmacy. This technique uses artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing to assess text for underlying feelings and emotions. AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the use of two SA models, Valence Aware Dictionary for Sentiment Reasoning (VADER) and Emotion English DistilRoBERTa-base (DistilRoBERTa), for the identification of patients' sentiments and emotions towards their pharmacotherapy. METHOD: A dataset containing 320,095 anonymized patients' reports of experiences with their medication was used. VADER assessed sentiment polarity on a scale from - 1 (negative) to + 1 (positive). DistilRoBERTa classified emotions into seven categories: anger, disgust, fear, joy, neutral, sadness, and surprise. Performance metrics for the models were obtained using the sklearn.metrics module of scikit-learn in Python. RESULTS: VADER demonstrated an overall accuracy of 0.70. For negative sentiments, it achieved a precision of 0.68, recall of 0.80, and an F1-score of 0.73, while for positive sentiments, it had a precision of 0.73, recall of 0.59, and an F1-score of 0.65. The AUC for the ROC curve was 0.90. DistilRoBERTa analysis showed that higher ratings for medication effectiveness, ease of use, and satisfaction corresponded with more positive emotional responses. These results were consistent with VADER's sentiment analysis, confirming the reliability of both models. CONCLUSION: VADER and DistilRoBERTa effectively analyzed patients' sentiments towards pharmacotherapy, providing valuable information. These findings encourage studies of SA in clinical pharmacy practice, paving the way for more personalized and effective patient care strategies.

Objectives: Alcohol withdrawal syndrome manifests through a range of symptoms, including anxiety and anhedonia, significantly affecting the quality of life of those affected. This study investigates the potential therapeutic effects of the methanolic extract of Psidium guajava leaves (MPG) on anxiety and anhedonia in Swiss albino female mice undergoing alcohol withdrawal. Methods: Four groups of mice underwent alcohol withdrawal, with one group undergoing saline withdrawal as a control. On the test day, behavioral assessments were conducted to evaluate anxiety and anhedonia. Groups I and II received sodium carboxymethylcellulose, Group III received diazepam, and Groups IV and V received varying oral doses of MPG. Results: The results indicate significant anti-anhedonic and anxiolytic effects of MPG. These effects were observed through changes in parameters measured in the Open Field test, Elevated Plus Maze test, Marble Burying test, and Sucrose Preference test. Mice treated with MPG displayed reduced anxiety-like behaviors and increased sucrose preference compared to untreated mice undergoing alcohol withdrawal. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Psidium guajava leaf extract may have therapeutic potential in alleviating anxiety and anhedonia associated with alcohol withdrawal. The observed effects indicate that MPG could serve as a promising adjunct therapy for managing alcohol withdrawal symptoms, thereby enhancing the overall well-being of individuals undergoing alcohol cessation.

This study analyzed the factors influencing childcare preference and the relationship between childcare preference and childcare service demand scale, using data collected from a questionnaire survey of 3,921 parents of infants and toddlers in Chongqing, China. The results indicate that parents with higher incomes, higher education levels, older ages, multiple infants, and dual-career living in urban areas have a stronger preference for childcare. In the shared or grandparent care model, the childcare preference is not obvious. Parents of infants tend to choose childcare institutions that provide reception services, early education, and convenience services. Higher quality environmental facilities tend to reduce the preference of parents for childcare.

INTRODUCTION: High fructose intake has been implicated as a risk factor for behavioral disorders, potentially through cell ferroptosis induction in the central nervous system. Neural stem cells (NSCs) are crucial for maintaining hippocampal neurogenesis to resist behavioral alterations. Gastrodin, derived from the traditional Chinese herb Gastrodia elata, has neuroprotective effect. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to elucidate the underlying mechanism by which high fructose induces sweet taste preference and assesses the impact of gastrodin on hippocampal NSC ferroptosis. METHODS: Mice and cultured NSCs were treated with high fructose and/or gastrodin, respectively. NSC ferroptosis was evaluated by assay of lipid peroxidation and DNA double-strand breaks. Transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq), Western blotting, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) were employed to explore the potential mechanism underlying high fructose-induced NSC ferroptosis and the modulation of gastrodin. Simultaneously, specific gene expression was regulated by lentivirus injection into the hippocampus of mice. RESULTS: Our data showed that gastrodin mitigated sweet taste preference decline and hippocampal NSC ferroptosis in high fructose-fed mice, being consistent with reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and iron accumulation in hippocampal NSC mitochondria. Mechanistically, we identified CDGSH iron-sulfur domain 1 (CISD1) as a mediator of NSC ferroptosis, with its expression being augmented by high fructose. Overexpression of Zic family member 2 (ZIC2) increased the transcription of Cisd1 gene. Additionally, overexpression of Zic2 with lentiviral vectors in hippocampus showed the decreased sweet taste preference in mice, consistently up-regulated CISD1 protein expression and reduced hippocampal NSC number. Gastrodin downregulated ZIC2 expression to inhibit CISD1 transcription in its attenuation of high fructose-induced NSC ferroptosis and sweet taste preference decrease. CONCLUSION: Collectively, high fructose can drive hippocampal NSC ferroptosis by upregulating ZIC2 and CISD1 expression, thereby contributing to the decline in sweet taste preference. Gastrodin emerges as a promising agent for mitigating NSC ferroptosis and improving sweet taste preference.

Background: Eating while watching TV was found associated with unhealthy food preferences and obesity in adolescents in foreign studies, which is not clear in China. The study aims to explore the influence of eating while watching TV on food preferences and overweight/obesity in Chinese adolescents. Methods: Data from 1768 adolescents (aged 12-17 years) in the 2006, 2009, 2011, and 2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) was analyzed. The height and weight were measured. Mixed effect models were used to identify the associations between eating while watching TV and adolescents' food preferences and overweight/obesity. Results: Adolescents eating while watching TV ≥1 time/week were more likely to prefer fast food, salty snacks and soft drinks than those eating while watching TV <1 time/week. Adolescents eating meals while watching TV ≥1 time/week were less likely to prefer vegetables than those eating meals while watching TV <1 time/week. In addition, adolescents eating snacks while watching TV ≥1 time/week were more likely to be overweight/obesity than those eating meals while watching TV <1 time/week (odds ratio [OR] = 7.16; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.39-36.93). Conclusion: Eating snacks while watching TV was positively associated with adolescents' unhealthy food preferences and overweight/obesity. Eating meals while watching TV was associated with adolescents' unhealthy food preferences. Implementing web-based Community-based participatory research (CBPR) about reducing eating while watching TV may be a practical strategy to develop healthy food preferences and prevent overweight/obesity in Chinese adolescents.

The proliferation of pest and invasive marine macroalgae threatens coastal ecosystems, with biotic interactions, including direct effects such as grazing and indirect effects such as the trophic cascades, where one species indirectly affects another through its interactions with a third species, play a critical role in determining the resistance of local communities to these invasions. This study examines the foraging behaviour and preference of native fish communities toward native (Halopteris scoparia, Sargassum vulgare) and non-indigenous (Asparagopsis taxiformis) macroalgae using the Remote Video Foraging System (RVFS). Fifty-four weedpops were deployed across three locations to present these macroalgae, while associated epifaunal assemblages were also collected. Video analysis revealed that four common fish species displayed preference towards native macroalgae, possibly due to by the presence of zoobenthos rather than herbivory. This observation suggests that these fish species identified the macroalgae as a habitat that harboured their preferred food items. In contrast, A. taxiformis was consistently avoided, suggesting limited integration into the local food web. Site-specific variations in fish-macroalgae interactions and epifaunal diversity highlighted the complexity of these dynamics. This study contributes to understanding of the ecological implications of invasive macroalgae and supports the use of RVFS as a tool for assessing local biotic resistance against non-indigenous species in coastal ecosystems globally.

Rooting is a strongly motivated, species-specific behaviour of pigs. Most housing systems do not provide appropriate materials that enable the full expression of this behaviour, and it remains unclear whether straw is suitable to entirely fulfil the rooting motivation of pigs. We therefore investigated the suitability of small (minimal) and large (deep) amounts of straw as well as large amounts of compost to satisfy rooting motivation in pigs. Fifty-seven growing-finishing pigs were housed in three pens, each providing permanent access to one of the three treatment substrates. Eight pigs per group were tested individually in a classical preference test (PT) and another eight pigs in a conditioned place preference test (CPPT). In the tests, pigs could show their preference to consume freely available feed ("feed") or feed hidden in sawdust ("root"). In the CPPT, feed was only present during training but not during testing. Pigs were exposed to the test situation twice, with approximately 72 kg and 115 kg BW. In both tests, the following variables were measured and used as outcome variables in linear mixed effect models: first decision to choose one of the two stimuli ("feed" or "root"), duration of time spent in proximity to "root", number of changes between stimuli, and latency to the first decision. Overall, the pigs' first decision (by tendency; P = 0.076) and the duration in proximity to "root" (P = 0.034) varied among treatments: Pigs housed with minimal straw tended to be more likely to choose "root" first (posthoc comparison; P = 0.090) and spent more time in proximity to "root" (P = 0.030) than pigs housed with compost, whereas pigs housed with deep straw were intermediate. Interestingly, the patterns of response to the treatment differed depending on the behavioural tests for both, first decision (interaction; P = 0.032) and duration in proximity to "root" (interaction; by tendency; P = 0.006). In addition, pigs in the PT changed more often between stimuli than pigs in the CPPT (P < 0.001). There was a tendency for an interactive effect between test and treatment for latency to first decision (interaction; P = 0.082), though pairwise comparisons did not reveal any differences. We concluded that in this study housing with permanent access to compost satisfied rooting motivation in pigs more than housing with minimal amounts of straw.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the preferences regarding injection, medication frequency and complexity of GLP1 receptor agonists among patients with type 2 diabetes, treatment-naïve for such drugs in Spain. Additionally, patients' willingness to pay according to these attributes was evaluated. METHODS: A discrete-choice experiment survey designed to evaluate patients' preferences over three attributes discriminating by age, sex and patients experience with previous injectable treatment was fulfilled by patients. The resulting model was analyzed using a conditional (fixed-effects) logistic regression. RESULTS: A total of 180 patients (63.35 ± 11.49 years, 63.28% men, 48.41% with previous cardiovascular disease, 54.69% with a time of evolution of diabetes >10 years) recruited from 5 health care centers in Spain completed the survey. Patients viewed positively weekly injections (vs daily injections), but rated negatively a complex preparation of the dose (vs simple preparation). Whereas naïve patients for injectable medications did not consider administration timing of importance, no naïve patients considered it relevant. No relevant differences were observed according to age or gender. Patients were willing to pay 83.25€for a 'no preparation required' dose. No naïve and naïve patients were willing to pay 34.61€and 14.35€; P = 0.000, to change daily injection for a weekly injection. CONCLUSIONS: Patients highly valued the avoidance of injections, with weekly dosing clearly preferred over daily dosing, as well as reducing the treatment complexity. These findings may provide a better understanding of what patients prefer and value in their treatment and provide guidance for clinicians making therapeutic decisions regarding treatments of patients with type 2 diabetes.

Thaumatotibia leucotreta Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a major threat to the production and marketing of pepper (Capsicum spp.) in Ghana. To reduce the damage of the pest on pepper farming, it is important to find appropriate control methods, which may include the use of resistant host plants. This study investigated the relative susceptibility of 6 pepper varieties commonly cultivated in Ghana: Legon 18, Bird's eye, Scotch bonnet, Cayenne, KA2, and sweet pepper (Yolo wonder+ variety). Choice and no-choice ovipositional preference tests were conducted and the population growth rate of T. leucotreta was determined by establishing life table parameters including the net reproductive rates (R0), the mean generation time (G), intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm), the population doubling time (T), and the finite rate of increase (λ). In the no-choice test, females exhibited oviposition preference for sweet pepper (12.08 eggs/fruit), while Bird's eye was the least preferred (5.00 eggs/fruit). The same results were observed in the choice test. However, the population growth rate of T. leucotreta was highest on the Scotch bonnet and Cayenne, with rm of 0.124 and 0.127, respectively, while the Bird's eye and sweet pepper recorded the least rm of 0.116. Thus, the tested varieties had varying levels of susceptibility to T. leucotreta infestation. Bird's eye was the least susceptible variety, while Cayenne and Scotch bonnet were the most susceptible varieties. These findings could direct farmers on the choices of pepper varieties for cultivation and proffer potential opportunities to breed new varieties resistant to T. leucotreta infestation.
