RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-induced myopathy (SIM) a complication of sepsis that results in prolonged mechanical ventilation, long-term functional disability, and increased patient mortality. This study was performed to identify potential key oxidative stress-related genes (OS-genes) as biomarkers for the diagnosis of SIM using bioinformatics. METHODS: The GSE13205 was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, including 13 SIM samples and 8 healthy samples, and the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by limma package in R language. Simultaneously, we searched for the genes related to oxidative stress in the Gene Ontology (GO) database. The intersection of the genes selected from the GO database and the genes from the GSE13205 was considered as OS-genes of SIM, where the differential genes were regarded as OS-DEGs. OS-DEGs were analyzed using GO enrichment, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Hub genes in OS-DEGs were selected based on degree, and diagnostic genes were further screened by gene expression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Finally, a miRNA-gene network of diagnostic genes was constructed. RESULTS: A total of 1089 DEGs were screened from the GSE13205, and 453 OS-genes were identified from the GO database. The overlapping DEGs and OS-genes constituted 25 OS-DEGs, including 15 significantly upregulated and 10 significantly downregulated genes. The top 10 hub genes, including CD36, GPX3, NQO1, GSR, TP53, IDH1, BCL2, HMOX1, JAK2, and FOXO1, were screened. Furthermore, 5 diagnostic genes were identified: CD36, GPX3, NQO1, GSR, and TP53. The ROC analysis showed that the respective area under the curves (AUCs) of CD36, GPX3, NQO1, GSR, and TP53 were 0.990, 0.981, 0.971, 0.971, and 0.971, which meant these genes had very high diagnostic values of SIM. Finally, based on these 5 diagnostic genes, we found that miR-124-3p and miR-16-5p may be potential targets for the treatment of SIM. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that OS-genes might play an important role in SIM. CD36, GPX3, NQO1, GSR, and TP53 have potential as specific biomarkers for the diagnosis of SIM.

OBJECTIVE: Long-term assessments of lower leg muscle forces in ambulant patients with distal myopathies. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Over a five-year period, we measured involuntary, nerve-stimulated, isometric torques of the ankle dorsiflexors in a group of ambulant patients with myopathies and compared results with voluntary Manual Muscle Tests (MMT). RESULTS: From ten recruited patients, five could finish the five-year protocol. Twenty-seven force measurements sessions (one per year; 1,5 hours duration each) were performed. These patients exhibited low, stable torques or increased minimally (0.2 Newtonmeter, versus 0.1 Nm, ns; 0.7 vs. 1.0, ns; 3.4 vs. 3.5, ns; 0.2 vs. 0.1, ns; 0.8 vs. 1.5, P 0.0004 initial values vs. 5-year values, [norm: 3.9-5.7 Nm]). A 6th patient, eliciting low torque values (0.1 Nm) early passed away. Contraction times inversely correlated with MMT. MMT provided similar overall force abilities. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term monitoring of lower leg muscle forces in ambulant patients is limited by the patient's health status. In a small group of patients, stimulated lower leg forces did not worsen over many years relative to their diagnosed myopathies. Tracking involuntary forces, could be a useful monitoring providing phenotypic information, in addition to MMT. Future devices should be small and be simply self-applying, designed for subjects' domestic use and web-based data transfer. CLINICALTRIALS: gov NCT00735384.

Measurement of autoantibodies is essential for the management of several peripheral nerve and muscle diseases. The clinical significance of autoantibody testing differs for each antibody. In addition, clinicians must understand several issues including the accuracy of the test, isotype and subclass distribution, and its relationship to disease activity. Moreover, many autoantibody tests are not covered by health insurance. With limited medical resources, clinicians are required to be up-to-date with the latest information to utilize test results in daily practice without misunderstanding.

Sarcoidosis is an idiopathic granulomatous multi-organ disease, primarily affecting the respiratory system, eyes, and skin, with less involvement in peripheral neurons and muscles. Sarcoid peripheral neuropathy encompasses cranial and spinal nerve impairment. Muscle involvement is often asymptomatic and revealed through imaging. Symptomatic muscle involvement is categorized into three clinical types: nodular myopathy, acute myopathy, and chronic myopathy. The identification of noncaseating granulomas in peripheral nerves or muscles, coupled with the exclusion of other diseases, is essential for establishing a definitive diagnosis of sarcoid peripheral neuropathy and myopathy. Sarcoid neuropathy and myopathy are typically managed with high-dose corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, or a combination of both. In recent times, the use of TNF-alpha inhibitors has notably increased. However, these conditions often exhibit resistance to treatment and may necessitate prolonged therapeutic interventions. Therefore, comprehensive examinations should be conducted before considering immunotherapy. Due to the rarity of these conditions, research on manifestation-specific treatments is lacking, and standard treatments for sarcoid neuropathy and myopathy have not been established. Additional treatment options for sarcoid neuropathy and myopathy are expected to become available in the future.

Neurological immune-related adverse events (irAEs) associated with cancer treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) present diverse clinical characteristics. Neurological irAEs affect the peripheral nervous system and muscles more than they affect the central nervous system. Among the various subsets of peripheral neuropathies, polyradiculoneuropathy, which includes Guillain-Barre syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, stands out as the most severe form, leading to significant muscle weakness. ICIs can induce dysautonomia, including autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy. Autonomic neuropathy represents a neurological irAE. Neurological irAEs of neuromuscular junctions include myasthenia gravis (MG) and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS). Diagnosing MG or myositis independently can be challenging when they occur as irAEs. Myocarditis is sometimes observed as an irAE in patients with MG and can cause both severe heart failure and lethal arrhythmias, resulting in fatal outcomes. Anti-Kv1.4 antibodies are biomarkers of the severe form of MG and myocarditis. The administration of ICI in patients with small cell lung cancer increases the risk of LEMS. The distinction between LEMS is an irAE or a manifestation of paraneoplastic neurological syndrome is unclear as both conditions share common immunological mechanisms.

RESUMO

Sjögren's syndrome is often accompanied by various neurological complications, among which peripheral neuropathy is the most common. A variety of clinical phenotypes of peripheral neuropathy, including axonal polyneuropathy and sensory ataxic neuropathy are reported in the literature. We present an overview of the pathophysiology and differential diagnosis of each phenotype. Immunotherapy using corticosteroids and high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin therapy tends to elicit varied therapeutic responses depending on the peripheral neuropathy phenotype. We also discuss myositis, a possible complication of Sjögren's syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM). Though patients with IMNM were not considered to show skin rash, several reports have showed atypical skin conditions in patients with anti-3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR) antibody-positive IMNM (HMGCR-IMNM). The incidence and phenotype of skin conditions in patients with HMGCR-IMNM are not fully known. RESULTS: Among the 100 IIM patients diagnosed from April 2015 through August 2022, 34 (34%) presented some form of skin condition, with 27 having typical skin rashes; this included 13 patients with dermatomyositis (DM), 8 with anti-synthetase syndrome (ASS), and 6 with IMNM. Meanwhile, 8 of 19 patients with HMGCR-IMNM (42%) presented atypical skin lesions, but no patients with other IIMs did (p < 0.001). Skin eruption with ash-like scales was observed in four HMGCR-IMNM patients, and non-scaly red patches and lumps in the other four patients; accordingly, their skin manifestations were considered as other dermal diseases except for IIM. However, skin and muscle biopsies revealed the atypical skin conditions of patients with HMGCR-IMNM to have the same pathological background, formed by Bcl-2-positive lymphocyte infiltrations. CONCLUSIONS: HMGCR-IMNM patients frequently have atypical skin conditions of the neck and back. Skin biopsy specimens from these lesions showed the same Bcl-2-positive lymphocytic infiltrations as muscle biopsy specimens regardless of the different gross dermal findings. Thus, such atypical skin conditions may be suggestive for HMGCR-IMNM.

Purpose: This study aims to broaden the application of nano-contrast agents (NCAs) within the realm of the musculoskeletal system. It aims to introduce novel methods, strategies, and insights for the clinical management of ischemic muscle disorders, encompassing diagnosis, monitoring, evaluation, and therapeutic intervention. Methods: We developed a composite encapsulation technique employing O-carboxymethyl chitosan (OCMC) and liposome to encapsulate NCA-containing gold nanorods (GNRs) and perfluoropentane (PFP). This nanoscale contrast agent was thoroughly characterized for its basic physicochemical properties and performance. Its capabilities for in vivo and in vitro ultrasound imaging and photothermal imaging were authenticated, alongside a comprehensive biocompatibility assessment to ascertain its effects on microcirculatory perfusion in skeletal muscle using a murine model of hindlimb ischemia, and its potential to augment blood flow and facilitate recovery. Results: The engineered GNR@OCMC-liposome/PFP nanostructure exhibited an average size of 203.18±1.49 nm, characterized by size uniformity, regular morphology, and a good biocompatibility profile. In vitro assessments revealed NCA's potent photothermal response and its transformation into microbubbles (MBs) under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, thereby enhancing ultrasonographic visibility. Animal studies demonstrated the nanostructure's efficacy in photothermal imaging at ischemic loci in mouse hindlimbs, where NIR irradiation induced rapid temperature increases and significantly increased blood circulation. Conclusion: The dual-modal ultrasound/photothermal NCA, encapsulating GNR and PFP within a composite shell-core architecture, was synthesized successfully. It demonstrated exceptional stability, biocompatibility, and phase transition efficiency. Importantly, it facilitates the encapsulation of PFP, enabling both enhanced ultrasound imaging and photothermal imaging following NIR light exposure. This advancement provides a critical step towards the integrated diagnosis and treatment of ischemic muscle diseases, signifying a pivotal development in nanomedicine for musculoskeletal therapeutics.

This study aimed to determine whether electrical stimulation-based twitch exercise is effective in inhibiting the progression of immobilization-induced muscle fibrosis. 19 Wistar rats were randomly divided into a control group (n=6), an immobilization group (n=6; with immobilization only), and a Belt group (n=7; with immobilization and twitch exercise through the belt electrode device, beginning 2 weeks after immobilization). The bilateral soleus muscles were harvested after the experimental period. The right soleus muscles were used for histological analysis, and the left soleus muscles were used for biochemical and molecular biological analysis. As a result, in the picrosirius red images, the perimysium and endomysium were thicker in both the immobilization and Belt groups compared to the control group. However, the perimysium and endomysium thickening were suppressed in the Belt group. The hydroxyproline content and alpha-SMA, TGF-beta1, and HIF-1alpha mRNA expressions were significantly higher in the immobilization and belt groups than in the control group. These expressions were significantly lower in the Belt group than in the immobilization group. The capillary-to-myofiber ratio and the mRNA expressions of VEGF and PGC-1alpha were significantly lower in the immobilization and belt groups than in the control group, these were significantly higher in the Belt group than in the immobilization group. From these results, Electrical stimulation-based twitch exercise using the belt electrode device may prevent the progression of immobilization-induced muscle fibrosis caused by downregulating PGC-1alpha/VEGF pathway, we surmised that this intervention strategy might be effective against the progression of muscle contracture. Singleton-Merten syndrome (SMS) is a rare immunogenetic disorder affecting multiple systems, characterized by dental dysplasia, aortic calcification, glaucoma, skeletal abnormalities, and psoriasis. Glaucoma, a key feature of both classical and atypical SMS, remains poorly understood in terms of its molecular mechanism caused by DDX58 mutation. This study presented a novel DDX58 variant (c.1649A>C [p.Asp550Ala]) in a family with childhood glaucoma. Functional analysis showed that DDX58 variant caused an increase in IFN-stimulated gene expression and high IFN-ß-based type-I IFN. As the trabecular meshwork (TM) is responsible for controlling intraocular pressure (IOP), we examine the effect of IFN-ß on TM cells. Our study is the first to demonstrate that IFN-ß significantly reduced TM cell viability and function by activating autophagy. In addition, anterior chamber injection of IFN-ß remarkably increased IOP level in mice, which can be attenuated by treatments with autophagy inhibitor chloroquine. To uncover the specific mechanism underlying IFN-ß-induced autophagy in TM cells, we performed microarray analysis in IFN-ß-treated and DDX58 p.Asp550Ala TM cells. It showed that RSAD2 is necessary for IFN-ß-induced autophagy. Knockdown of RSAD2 by siRNA significantly decreased autophagy flux induced by IFN-ß. Our findings suggest that DDX58 mutation leads to the overproduction of IFN-ß, which elevates IOP by modulating autophagy through RSAD2 in TM cells.

RESUMO

Muscle weakness and pain can be seen in orthopedic, rheumatologic, cardiac, and musculoskeletal conditions in addition to neurologic disorders. Myopathy, which describes a heterogenous group of hereditary and acquired disorders that affect muscle channels, structure, and metabolism, is one possible cause. This review focuses on essential information to support primary care providers as they assess patients with muscle weakness and pain for myopathy. As with most neurologic disorders, a thorough clinical history and physical examination are essential first steps. These findings will then guide diagnostic testing and facilitate appropriate management or referral for further neuromuscular care.

Loss-of-function mutations in MEGF10 lead to a rare and understudied neuromuscular disorder known as MEGF10-related myopathy. There are no treatments for the progressive respiratory distress, motor impairment, and structural abnormalities in muscles caused by the loss of MEGF10 function. In this study, we deployed cellular and molecular assays to obtain additional insights about MEGF10-related myopathy in juvenile, young adult, and middle-aged Megf10 knockout (KO) mice. We found fewer muscle fibers in juvenile and adult Megf10 KO mice, supporting published studies that MEGF10 regulates myogenesis by affecting satellite cell differentiation. Interestingly, muscle fibers do not exhibit morphological hallmarks of atrophy in either young adult or middle-aged Megf10 KO mice. We next examined the neuromuscular junction (NMJ), in which MEGF10 has been shown to concentrate postnatally, using light and electron microscopy. We found early and progressive degenerative features at the NMJs of Megf10 KO mice that include increased postsynaptic fragmentation and presynaptic regions not apposed by postsynaptic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. We also found perisynaptic Schwann cells intruding into the NMJ synaptic cleft. These findings strongly suggest that the NMJ is a site of postnatal pathology in MEGF10-related myopathy. In support of these cellular observations, RNA-seq analysis revealed genes and pathways associated with myogenesis, skeletal muscle health, and NMJ stability dysregulated in Megf10 KO mice compared to wild-type mice. Altogether, these data provide new and valuable cellular and molecular insights into MEGF10-related myopathy.

A 76-year-old Malay female presented with 2 days history of fever and vomiting. She was found to have Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteraemia with no clear intra-abdominal cause on the initial computed tomography of the abdomen and pelvis (CTAP). She clinically improved with 2 weeks duration of intravenous meropenem. She subsequently developed septic shock and a repeated CTAP demonstrated increased hepatic parenchymal density with extensive parenchymal calcifications. INTRODUCTION: Critical illness polyneuropathy and myopathy (CIP/CIM) are frequent complications in the intensive care unit (ICU) with major consequences for the progress and outcome of subjects. CIP/CIM delays the weaning process, prolongs the hospital stay and increases the mortality rate. Additionally, it may have long-term consequences beyond the hospitalisation phase with prolonged disability. Even though there is growing interest in CIP/CIM, research about the clinical and post-clinical course as well as the middle-term and long-term outcomes of subjects with CIP/CIM is scarce. A large prospective study of critically ill subjects is needed with accurate diagnosis during the acute stage and comprehensive assessment during long-term follow-up. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This prospective observational cohort study aims to compare the clinical and post-clinical course of chronically critically ill subjects with and without the diagnosis of CIP/CIM and to determine predictors for the middle-term and long-term outcomes of subjects with CIP/CIM. In addition, the influence of the preclinical health status and the preclinical frailty on the long-term outcome of subjects with CIP/CIM will be investigated.This single-centre study will include 250 critically ill patients who were invasively ventilated for at least 5 days at the ICU and show reduced motor strength. At five study visits at admission and discharge to neurological rehabilitation, and 12, 18 and 24 months after disease onset, a comprehensive test battery will be applied including assessments of functioning and impairment, independence, health-related quality of life, activity and participation, cognition, gait and balance, fatigue, mental health and frailty.Secondary objectives are the documentation of therapy goals, therapy content and achieved milestones during the rehabilitation, to evaluate the clinimetric properties of the Mini-BESTest in critically ill patients, and to evaluate the time course and outcome of subjects with CIP/CIM after SARS-CoV-2 infection. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The study was approved by the ethical committee of the Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich. Participants will be included in the study after having signed informed consent.Results will be published in scientific, peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences. The global demand for white chicken meat along with the increase in the occurrence of growth-related breast muscle myopathies (BMMs) [namely white striping (WS), wooden breast (WB), and spaghetti meat (SM)] highlights the need for solutions that will improve meat quality while maintaining the high productivity of modern broilers. Guanidinoacetate (GAA), a precursor of creatine, is used as a feed additive and has previously shown the potential to affect the quality of breast meat. This study investigated growth performance, meat quality and the risk ratio for the development of BMMs in broilers assigned to two dietary treatments: control (CON) group, fed a commercial basal diet, and supplemented GAA (sGAA) group, receiving the control diet supplemented on top with 0.06% GAA. Growth performance indicators such as BW, daily weight gain, daily feed intake, feed conversion ratio and cumulative feed conversion ratio were recorded on a pen basis. As a trait affecting animal welfare, the occurrence of foot pad dermatitis was also evaluated. At day 43, birds were processed, and breasts were scored for the incidence and severity of BMMs (n = 166 and 165 in CON and sGAA groups, respectively). Quality traits (ultimate pH, colour) and technological properties (i.e., drip and cooking losses, marinade uptake, shear force, and oxidation levels of the lipid and the protein fractions) of breast meat were assessed in both treatments on samples not showing any macroscopic sign of BMMs (n = 20 breast fillets per group). Data of myopathy risk ratio were analysed as the risk for each group to develop WS, WB, and SM myopathies. Our results show that while sGAA and control groups did not differ significantly in growth performance, a remarkably beneficial effect of GAA was observed on the incidence of BMMs with significantly reduced risk of sGAA group to develop SM myopathy. The risk of sGAA group to develop SM was 30% lower compared to CON (P = 0.028). Finally, a significantly lower drip loss was observed in sGAA in comparison with CON (1.78 vs 2.48%, P = 0.020). Together, our results show that the inclusion of 0.06% GAA in feed can improve the water-holding capacity of meat and reduce the risk to develop SM myopathy without compromising the performance of broilers.

Animals on Earth need to hold postures and execute a series of movements under gravity and atmospheric pressure. VAChT-Cre is a transgenic Cre driver mouse line that expresses Cre recombinase selectively in motor neurons of S-type (slow-twitch fatigue-resistant) and FR-type (fast-twitch fatigue-resistant). Sequential motor unit recruitment is a fundamental principle for fine and smooth locomotion; smaller-diameter motor neurons (S-type, FR-type) first contract low-intensity oxidative type I and type IIa muscle fibers, and thereafter larger-diameter motor neurons (FInt-type, FF-type) are recruited to contract high-intensity glycolytic type IIx and type IIb muscle fibers. To selectively eliminate S- and FR-type motor neurons, VAChT-Cre mice were crossbred with NSE-DTA mice in which the cytotoxic diphtheria toxin A fragment (DTA) was expressed in Cre-expressing neurons. The VAChT-Cre;NSE-DTA mice were born normally but progressively manifested various characteristics, including body weight loss, kyphosis, kinetic and postural tremor, and muscular atrophy. The progressive kinetic and postural tremor was remarkable from around 20 weeks of age and aggravated. Muscular atrophy was apparent in slow muscles, but not in fast muscles. The increase in motor unit number estimation was detected by electromyography, reflecting compensatory re-innervation by remaining FInt- and FF-type motor neurons to the orphaned slow muscle fibers. The muscle fibers gradually manifested fast/slow hybrid phenotypes, and the remaining FInt-and FF-type motor neurons gradually disappeared. These results suggest selective ablation of S- and FR-type motor neurons induces progressive muscle fiber-type transition, exhaustion of remaining FInt- and FF-type motor neurons, and late-onset kinetic and postural tremor in mice.

BACKGROUND: Patients with congenital myopathies may experience respiratory involvement, resulting in restrictive ventilatory dysfunction and respiratory failure. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with this condition has never been reported in congenital ryanodine receptor type 1(RYR1)-related myopathy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 47-year-old woman was admitted with progressively exacerbated chest tightness and difficulty in neck flexion. She was born prematurely at week 28. Her bilateral lower extremities were edematous and muscle strength was grade IV-. Arterial blood gas analysis revealed hypoventilation syndrome and type II respiratory failure, while lung function test showed restrictive ventilation dysfunction, which were both worse in the supine position. PH was confirmed by right heart catheterization (RHC), without evidence of left heart disease, congenital heart disease, or pulmonary artery obstruction. Polysomnography indicated nocturnal hypoventilation. The ultrasound revealed reduced mobility of bilateral diaphragm. The level of creatine kinase was mildly elevated. Magnetic resonance imaging showed myositis of bilateral thigh muscle. Muscle biopsy of the left biceps brachii suggested muscle malnutrition and congenital muscle disease. Gene testing revealed a missense mutation in the RYR1 gene (exon33 c.C4816T). Finally, she was diagnosed with RYR1-related myopathy and received long-term non-invasive ventilation (NIV) treatment. Her symptoms and cardiopulmonary function have been greatly improved after 10 months. CONCLUSIONS: We report a case of RYR1-related myopathy exhibiting hypoventilation syndrome, type II respiratory failure and PH associated with restrictive ventilator dysfunction. Pulmonologists should keep congenital myopathies in mind in the differential diagnosis of type II respiratory failure, especially in patients with short stature and muscle weakness.

INTRODUCTION: Genetic myopathies constitute a collection of rare diseases that significantly impact patient functionality and quality of life. Early diagnosis of genetic myopathies can prevent future complications and provide families with genetic counselling. Despite the substantial impact of genetic myopathies on the adult population, the global epidemiology of these disorders is inadequately addressed in the literature. AIMS: To enhance understanding of both the epidemiology and genetics of these disorders within the province of Alicante, situated in southeastern Spain. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between 2020 and 2022, a prospective observational study was conducted at the Alicante Health Area-General Hospital, enrolling patients aged 16 years or older with suspected genetic myopathies. Sociodemographic, clinical, and genetic data were collected. The reference date for prevalence calculation was established as December 31, 2022. Official demographic data of the health area were used to set the population at risk. RESULTS: In total, 83 patients were identified with confirmed genetically related myopathy, resulting in an overall prevalence of 29.59 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The diagnostic yield for molecular genetic testing was found to be 69.16%. The most prevalent genetic myopathies identified included myotonic dystrophy (27.5%), dystrophinopathies (15.7%), and facioscapulohumeral dystrophy (15.7%). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of GMs can vary considerably depending on the geographical region and the studied population. The analysis of diagnostic yield suggests that genetic studies should be considered useful in the diagnosis of genetic myopathies.


TITLE: Epidemiología y caracterización molecular de las miopatías genéticas en adultos en una región del sureste de España.Introducción. Las miopatías genéticas constituyen un conjunto de enfermedades raras que impactan significativamente en la funcionalidad y la calidad de vida del paciente. Un diagnóstico temprano de las miopatías genéticas puede prevenir complicaciones futuras y proporcionar a las familias asesoramiento genético. A pesar del impacto sustancial de las miopatías genéticas en población adulta, la epidemiología global de estos trastornos está inadecuadamente abordada en la bibliografía. Objetivos. Mejorar el entendimiento tanto de la epidemiología como de la genética de estos trastornos en la provincia de Alicante, situada en el sureste de España. Material y métodos. Entre 2020 y 2022, se llevó a cabo un estudio observacional prospectivo en el área de salud Alicante-Hospital General, que incluyó a pacientes de 16 años o más con sospecha de miopatías genéticas. Se recopilaron datos sociodemográficos, clínicos y genéticos. La fecha de referencia para el cálculo de la prevalencia se estableció el 31 de diciembre de 2022. Se utilizaron datos demográficos oficiales del área de salud para establecer la población en riesgo. Resultados. En total, se identificó a 83 pacientes con miopatía genéticamente confirmada, lo que dio lugar a una prevalencia total de 29,59 casos por cada 100.000 habitantes. El rendimiento diagnóstico de las pruebas genéticas moleculares fue del 69,16%. Las miopatías genéticas más frecuentes incluyeron la distrofia miotónica (27,5%), las distrofinopatías (15,7%) y la distrofia facioescapulohumeral (15,7%). Conclusión. La prevalencia de las miopatías genéticas puede variar considerablemente dependiendo de la región geográfica y la población estudiada. El análisis del rendimiento diagnóstico sugiere que los estudios genéticos deberían considerarse útiles en el diagnóstico de las miopatías genéticas.
