RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Union Physio-Psycho-Social Assessment Questionnaire (UPPSAQ-70) among general hospital psychiatric outpatients. METHODS: A total of 2000 participants responded to the survey. Factor analyses were used to test the construct validity of the scale. Convergent validity was evaluated by the correlation between UPPSAQ-70 and symptoms measured using the Chinese versions of Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), Somatic Symptom Disorder - B Criteria Scale (SSD-12) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). RESULTS: The nine-factor model was supported (χ2 = 8816.395, df = 2309, χ2/df = 3.818, RMSEA = 0.053, CFI = 0.929). The UPPSAQ-70 showed significant correlation with the SAS (r = 0.396, P < .001), SDS (r = 0.451, P < .001), PHQ-15 (r = 0.381, P < .001), SSD-12 (r = 0.324, P < .001) and PSQI (r = 0.220, P < .001). UPPSAQ-70 and its subscales showed good internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranging from 0.79 to 0.96. CONCLUSIONS: The UPPSAQ-70 was a rating scale with good construct validity and reliability, which can measure overall health in the biological, psychological, and social domains for Chinese psychiatric outpatients, but its convergent validity still requires further empirical research.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nighttime fears are highly prevalent in children, ranging from normative fears to triggering fear-related anxiety disorders. The lack of available assessment instruments recently prompted the development of the Nighttime Fears Scale (NFS) for children aged 8-12 years. The present study aimed to adapt and psychometrically evaluate the parent-reported version for children aged 3-8 years (NFS-P) as a complement for younger children. METHODS: Two hundred eighty-four Spanish-speaking parents (47% girls) completed the NFS-P and anxiety measures. RESULTS: Confirmatory factor analyses supported a four-factor structure of the NFS-P. Strong internal consistency and validity evidence were obtained. No significant differences were found in NFS-P scores between sexes and age groups. CONCLUSIONS: The findings offer support for the use of the NFS-P as a valuable instrument in clinical and research settings, supplementing the NFS for older children. Both scales provide an efficient means to comprehensively assess the presence and intensity of typical nighttime fears across preschool and school years.

RESUMO

The Personal Need for Structure (PNS) scale assesses individuals' tendency to seek out clarity and structured ways of understanding and interacting with their environment. The main aim of this study was to adapt the PNS scale to Spanish and assess its psychometric properties. There are two versions of the PNS scale being used, which vary in the number of dimensions (1 vs. 2), and in the number of items (12 vs. 11; because one version excludes Item 5). Therefore, an additional aim of this study was to compare the two existing versions of the PNS scale. This comparison aimed to address the debate regarding the inclusion of Item 5, and the number of dimensions that comprise the PNS scale. A sample of 735 individuals was collected. First, through an approach combining exploratory and confirmatory analyses, evidence was found in favor of the scale being composed of two related but distinguishable factors: Desire for Structure and Response to the Lack of Structure. Scores on these subscales showed acceptable internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Evidence supporting the invariance of the internal structure across sociodemographic variables such as gender and age was found. Validity evidence was also analyzed by examining the relationships with other relevant measures. The results indicated that Item 5 can be excluded without reducing scores validity or reliability, which supports preceding research in the literature. In conclusion, the PNS scale was satisfactorily adapted to and validated in Spanish and its use in this context is recommended.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to conduct the cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness in Brazilian Portuguese. METHOD: a methodological study divided into two stages. In the first stage, the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness was cross-culturally adapted for Brazilian culture, when the scale was subjected to translations, back-translations, and a committee of judges - to verify the semantic, linguistic, and contextual equivalence between the original and translated items. The second step was to validate the scale in a sample of families of children and adolescents with chronic illnesses. The participants were 230 families of children with chronic illnesses attending the outpatient clinic of a tertiary public hospital with teaching and research characteristics. RESULTS: internal consistency was tested using Cronbach's alpha (0.81) and McDonald's omega (0.81). Confirmatory factor analysis was also tested, and the model's fit was acceptable for validation standards. CONCLUSION: the version of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness showed evidence of validation and can be considered a valid and reliable instrument in Brazilian culture. The Brazilian Portuguese version of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness can be used to measure the experience of family integration in chronic illness.

RESUMO

Theory and evidence suggest that attitudes toward violence are relevant for the explanation, prediction, and reduction of violent behavior. The purpose of the present study was to adapt a measure of violent attitudes-the Evaluation of Violence Questionnaire (EVQ)-for use in Portugal, test the cross-country equivalence, and test the validity of both versions. We found the expected one-factor structure, high internal consistency, and cross-country measurement invariance for the Portuguese and original EVQ with men in Portugal (N = 320) and Canada (N = 298). We also found the expected pattern of correlations with measures of more versus less theoretically relevant constructs: both versions of the EVQ showed the strongest correlations with overall aggression and reactive aggression; slightly lower correlations with proactive aggression; negative correlations with self-control; and the smallest correlations with self-esteem. Our results support the equivalence, reliability, and validity of the Portuguese and original versions of the EVQ.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aims to examine whether the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), excluding the self-harm item (EPDS-9), performs as effectively as the full EPDS in identifying depression among perinatal women. METHODS: A total of 3571 pregnant women and 3850 postpartum women participated in this observational study. Participants who scored ≥ 9 on the EPDS underwent further diagnostic evaluations by a clinical psychologist and/or psychiatrist. RESULTS: The EPDS-9 and full EPDS demonstrated a near-perfect correlation in both the antepartum (r = 0.996) and postpartum (r = 0.998) cohorts. EPDS-9 showed exceptional precision in identifying depression as screened by the full EPDS at cutoff points ranging 9-14, with areas under the curve ≥0.998. The sensitivity of EPDS-9 and full EPDS to detect depression that requires psychotropic medications was poor. The highest accuracy for both versions was at a cutoff score of 9: sensitivity of 0.579 for the full EPDS and 0.526 for the EPDS-9. At the cutoff point of 9, EPDS-9 performed adequately in predicting the response of the participants to the self-harm item. CONCLUSION: The EPDS-9 represents a solid and effective replacement for the full EPDS in clinical settings. If the presence of suicidal thoughts needs to be assessed, specialized scales should be used.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This research simulates an adaptive version of the IDAS-II (IDAS-CAT). METHODS: 2021 participants from both community (n = 1692) and patients (n = 329) samples completed the IDAS-II. Item response theory metric properties of the IDAS-II full test and the 20-items of the general depression (GD) scale were obtained. The efficiency and accuracy of different computerized adaptive algorithms were simulated. Different subsamples completed additional external measures in order to gather evidence of validity of the scores estimated with the simulated adaptive algorithms selected. RESULTS: Both unidimensional computerized adaptive testing algorithm selected for the GD scale and the bifactor model chosen for the full test, allow 70% reduction in the length of administration, maintaining a measurement error below 0.30 on the general and 0.50 on the specific factors. Results show high correlations of the scores estimated with the adaptive algorithms and the estimates based on the full test, as well as correlations with external criteria almost equal to those generated with the full test. CONCLUSIONS: IDAS-CAT could be a reliable and fast tool for measuring internalizing spectrum.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Neurological Fatigue Index (NFI) is the instrument used to evaluate stroke patients' fatigue. There was no Urdu version of NFI available officially. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to translate the Neurological Fatigue Index into Urdu and to determine the validity and reliability of Urdu NFI among stroke patients. METHODOLOGY: It is a cross-cultural validation study. According to international guidelines in phase I, a process of translation was carried out. In phase II, using the sample of 120 participants, validity and reliability of the Urdu version of the Neurological Fatigue Index scale was conducted. The Urdu version's content validity, convergent/concurrent validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency were determined. The latest version of SPSS was used for the data analysis. RESULTS: The Urdu version of NFI was drafted after the expert's review. The content validity index was used to analyze the content validity. The reliability and validity of the Urdu version NFI were evaluated by calculating Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.86), and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC = 0.823). Correlations with other scales were the fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) (r = 0.76), Mental Fatigue Scale (MFS) (r = 0.68), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) (r = 0.53) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) (r = 0.47). CONCLUSION: The Urdu Version was linguistically acceptable for the fatigue assessment in post-stroke patients. It showed good content validity, convergent/concurrent validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability.

RESUMO

PROBLEM: There is a lack of validated tools for assessing social support for Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) practice in Ethiopia. BACKGROUND: Validating instruments ensures culturally appropriate and reliable data collection for effective research and interventions. AIM: This study aimed to translate the exclusive breastfeeding social support scale into the Afaan Oromo language (EBFSS-AO) and test its psychometric properties among Ethiopian women. METHODS: The scale was first subjected to forward and backward translation before undergoing psychometric evaluation. Then, a cross-sectional study was conducted on convenience sample of 160 postpartum women. Content validity was assessed via Content Validity Index (CVI), and construct validity was tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with maximum likelihood estimation. The scale's reliability was measured using Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). FINDINGS: The CFA verified that the EBFSS-AO for Ethiopian women is a three-dimensional scale with satisfactory fit indices; x2/df: 2.76; Comparative fit index: 0.917; Tucker-Lewis Index: 0.902; Standardized Root Mean square residual: 0.061; and Root mean square error of approximation: 0.105. Item-level CVI ranged from 0.86 to 1.00, and scale-level CVI was 0.98. The overall scale had a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95 while instrumental, emotional, and informational support subscales had a Cronbach's alpha of 0.89, 0.92, and 0.93 respectively. After a 4-week re-test, the ICC yielded a value of 0.94. Partner support on EBF showed no socio-demographic differences except for income. CONCLUSION: The EBFSS-AO showed satisfactory psychometric properties, suitable for assessing social support among Ethiopian women in both research and clinical contexts.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Identifying valid and accessible tools for monitoring and improving physical activity levels is essential for promoting functional ability and healthy aging. The Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) is a commonly used and recommended self-report measure of physical activity in older adults. The objective of this scoping review was to map the nature and extent to which the PASE has been used in the literature on community-dwelling older adults, including the evidence for its psychometric properties. METHODS: Seven electronic databases (MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), AMED (Ovid), Emcare (Ovid), CINAHL (EBSCO), Ageline (EBSCO)) were searched from inception to January 25, 2023. Studies were included if physical activity was part of the aim(s) and measured using the PASE, participants had a mean age of 60 years or older and lived in the community, and papers were peer-reviewed journal articles published in English. Pairs of independent reviewers screened abstracts, full-texts, and extracted data. Where possible, weighted mean PASE scores were calculated for different subgroups based on age, sex, and clinical population. RESULTS: From 4,124 studies screened, 232 articles from 35 countries met the inclusion criteria. Most studies were cross-sectional (60.78%), completed in high-income countries (86.4%) and in North America (49.57%). A variety of clinical conditions were included (n = 21), with the most common populations being osteoarthritis (n = 13), Parkinson's disease (n = 11), and cognitive impairment (n = 7). Psychometric properties of ten versions of the PASE were found. All versions demonstrated acceptable test-retest reliability. Evidence for construct validity showed moderate correlations with self-reported physical activity, fair to moderate with accelerometry derived activity and fair relationships with physical function and self-reported health. Pooled means were reported in graphs and forest plots for males, females, age groups, and several clinical populations. CONCLUSION: The PASE was widely used in a variety of clinical populations and geographical locations. The PASE has been culturally adapted to several populations and evaluated for its reliability and convergent validity; however, further research is required to examine responsiveness and predictive validity. Researchers can use the weighted mean PASE scores presented in this study to help interpret PASE scores in similar populations. OSF REGISTRATION: osf.io/7bvhx.

RESUMO

AIMS: To assess the validity and internal reliability of the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) among patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) and to explore the network structure of Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) among MDD patients in China. METHODS: Eligible individuals were recruited from a large tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province. Trained researchers conducted in-person interviews and administered self-report questionnaires, including demographics, medical information, and psychological assessments. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) and network analysis were performed, with calculations of Average Variance Extracted (AVE), Cronbach's α, and composite reliability. RESULTS: A total of 113 patients with MDD participated in this study. The correlated six-factor one-order model was a good representation of the latent structure of ITQ (χ2= 60.114, df = 39, P = 0.017, SRMR = 0.070, RMSEA = 0.050, TLI = 0.952, CFI = 0.972, BIC = 175.508). All ITQ subscales possessed acceptable convergent validity and internal reliability, except for affective dysregulation and re-experiencing. The square root of AVE for affective dysregulation was lower than its correlations with other clusters. Network analysis revealed that node C4 ('I feel worthless'), as a core symptom, was significantly associated with the development of CPTSD. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical applicability of the ITQ was demonstrated by its overall validity and reliability among patients with MDD. However, the affective dysregulation and re-experiencing clusters still need to be revised and enhanced. Timely screening, recognition, and diagnosis are critical due to the worse clinical outcomes seen in comorbid patients.

RESUMO

Background: The Huntington's Disease (HD) Everyday Functioning (Hi-DEF) is a new patient-reported outcome (PRO) instrument designed to measure the impact of cognitive impairment on daily functioning in the early stages of HD. Objective: To assess the measurement properties and finalize item content of the Hi-DEF. Methods: A cross-sectional, observational psychometric validation study was conducted among individuals with early stages of HD at 9 US centers of excellence. Rasch Measurement Theory (RMT) analysis of the initial draft version of the Hi-DEF (47 items) and subscales (i.e., 'Home', 'At work', 'Driving', and 'Communication') was conducted to examine measurement properties including sample-to-scale targeting, suitability of response scale (ordering of response thresholds), scale cohesiveness (item fit), local independence, and person fit. Results: 151 participants (mean age 47 years (SD 12), 59% female) were included. Seven items were removed based on dependency and item fit. The remaining 40-item version of the Hi-DEF demonstrated good measurement properties. Across the four subscales, targeting ranged from 49-70% (72% full scale), reliability ascertained by person separation index ranged from 0.53-0.87 (0.92 full scale), response scales were ordered for 25-100% of items (75% full scale), 0-12% items displayed misfit (2% full scale), and 0-1% (2% full scale) item pairs displayed dependency. Conclusions: Our study supports the psychometric integrity of the Hi-DEF as a reliable and valid new PRO instrument designed to assess the impact of cognitive impairment on daily functioning in the early stages of HD. Future work will evaluate the external validity and utility in clinical trial applications.

RESUMO

The Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90), widely utilized for psychological assessments, faces challenges due to its extensive nature. Streamlining the SCL-90 is essential in order to enhance its practicality without compromising its broad applicability across diverse settings. The objective of this study is to employ machine learning techniques to simplify the dimensions and individual items within each dimension, while simultaneously validating the accuracy and practicality of the streamlined SCL-90 scale. A total of 23,028 valid responses of the SCL-90 were obtained from university students, with positive cases accounting for 49.58 % and negative cases accounting for 50.42 %. The findings demonstrate that by utilizing the Support Vector Classification (SVC) algorithm, it is possible to reduce the scale from ten dimensions to four, achieving an overall prediction accuracy of 89.50 % for the total score. Further simplification of these remaining four dimensions resulted in a reduction from 44 to 29 items per dimension, yielding individual dimension accuracies exceeding 90 %, along with sensitivity and specificity levels surpassing 85 %, and the reliability coefficients consistently exceeded 0.8 across different algorithms. In conclusion, we successfully reduced the number of scale items from 90 to 29, resulting in a reduction of 67.78 % in overall assessment time while maintaining a high reliability coefficient of 0.95. Importantly, the streamlined scale demonstrated no significant decrease in assessment effectiveness. This refined version facilitates rapid comprehension of individuals' comprehensive mental health status and is well-suited for widespread application in experiential settings.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A valid and reliable assessment tool to describe the quality of the movement pattern of reaching can provide valuable insights into motor performance deficits in persons with MS (pwMS). The Reaching Performance Scale, developed for stroke, is a promising scale to assess movement patterns in pwMS. However, psychometric properties of the scale are lacking in pwMS. OBJECTIVES: Firstly, to investigate the content validity of the modified Reaching Performance Scale for application in patients with MS (mRPS). Secondly, to investigate the psychometric properties (within- and between-session reliability and concurrent validity) of the mRPS for pwMS. METHODS: Forty-five pwMS (mean EDSS 6.6 pt, IQR 6-7.5) executed the mRPS that rates the quality of movement patterns and compensations during reach to grasp tasks. The content validity was determined by an expert panel based on observations of subjects performing the RPS. The reliability was based on five repetitions within one day, and between two days. For the concurrent validity, outcome measures at two levels of the International Classification of Functioning were correlated with the mRPS: Body Structure and Function level: Fugl-Meyer Assessment of the Upper Limb (FMA-UL), maximal isometric hand grip strength (HGS; Activity level: Action Research Arm Test (ARAT), Box and Blocks Test (BBT), Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT) and Trunk Impairment Scale 2.0 (TIS 2.0) as well as perceived performance by the Manual Ability Measure-36 (MAM-36). RESULTS: Scale modifications were made only on the ratings of the trunk displacement subscale. The mRPS had excellent agreement scores for within-session reliability (range of Kappa between 0.85 and 0.98) and moderate-to-excellent agreement scores for between-session reliability (K: 0.66-1.00). Regarding validity, the mRPS was highly correlated with the ARAT (rho=0.74, p < 0.001), followed by moderate correlations with trunk performance (TIS 2.0, rho= 0.61, p < 0.001), hand function (BBT: rho=0.64, p < 0.001; NHPT: rho=-0.61, p < 0.001) and perceived performance (MAM36 rho= 0.53, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The mRPS is a reliable measurement tool to describe the movement pattern quality and motor compensations used during reaching in pwMS. Concerning concurrent validity, the mRPS is partially related to other measures of upper limb and trunk performance.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dysfunctional imagery processes characterise a range of emotional disorders. Valid, reliable, and responsive mental imagery measures may support the clinical assessment of imagery and advance research to develop theory and imagery-based interventions. We sought to review the psychometric properties of mental imagery measures relevant to emotional disorders. METHODS: A systematic review registered on the Open Science Framework was conducted using COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) guidance. Five databases were searched. COSMIN tools were used to assess the quality of study methodologies and psychometric properties of measures. RESULTS: Twenty-three articles describing twenty-one self-report measures were included. Measures assessed various imagery processes and were organised into four groups based on related emotional disorders. Study methodological quality varied: measure development and reliability studies were generally poor, while internal consistency and hypothesis testing studies were higher quality. Most measurement properties assessed were of indeterminate quality. CONCLUSION: Imagery measures were heterogenous and primarily disorder specific. Due to a lack of high-quality psychometric assessment, it is unclear whether most included imagery measures are valid, reliable, or responsive. Measures had limited evidence of content validity suggesting further research could engage clinical populations to ensure their relevance and comprehensiveness.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Valid and reliable instruments for measuring emotional development are critical for a proper diagnostic assignment in individuals with intellectual disabilities. This exploratory study examined the psychometric properties of the items on the Scale of Emotional Development-Short (SED-S). METHOD: The sample included 612 adults with intellectual disabilities (Mage = 37.35, SDage = 13.27; 59.8% males). Item validity analysis comprising sensitivity and specificity rates and discriminatory power were determined. RESULTS: The relative mean frequency of 'yes' answers to all 200 items was 29.5%. The mean sensitivity rate was 67.5% and the mean specificity rate was 79.3%. Most items (85.0%) showed good discriminatory power with the adjacent stage(s), especially between SED-1, SED-2, SED-3 and SED-4. Particularly in SED-4 some items showed weaknesses in the differentiation between these stages. RESUMO

High-quality clinical care and research on suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) depends on availability and implementation of reliable and valid measures of STBs. In contrast to studies examining STB risk factors, screening instruments, or treatment, little research has rigorously examined the content, characteristics, and psychometric properties of STB measures themselves. This systematic review (1) identified STB measures that conform to empirically supported definitions of STBs, and (2) identified peer-reviewed papers reporting on the psychometric properties of these measures in adults. Data on psychometric properties and other measure characteristics were extracted. A total of 21 eligible measures were identified in the first stage. In the second stage, 70 articles (with 79 independent samples) were included with psychometric data in adult samples for 19 measures. Although there was support for strong internal consistency and content validity across many measures, face validity and clinical utility concerns were prevalent. Few measures comprehensively assessed suicidal behaviors, and interview-based assessments tended to show the strongest psychometric properties and clinical utility. Findings are discussed in the context of recommendations for improving existing measures, including future research to increase utility and translatability across clinical settings, delivery methods, and diverse populations.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Falls in older adults are a common and serious threat to health and functional independence. It can cause psychological distress, inability to participate in activities of daily living, brain injury, fractures, and even death. The aim was to analyze the psychometric properties of the self-assessed fall risk scale (FRS) that measures the risk of falls in older adults in a central region of Chile, as well as to verify the concurrent validity against functional fitness tests. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 222 older adults (OA) [34 males and 188 females] with an age range of 65 to 85 years. The 13-item self-perceived fall risk scale (FRS) was validated. Anthropometric measures (weight, height and waist circumference) were assessed. Five functional fitness tests were measured (right and left hand grip strength, biceps curl, up-and-go, agility and 6-minute walk test). Validation was performed by construct validation [(exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)] and concurrent validity. RESULTS: The EFA revealed 4 factors in the FRS scale [1: fear of falling (variance 27.1%), 2: use of assistive devices (variance 10.6%), 3: loss of sensation (variance 9.3%), and 4: limited mobility (variance 8.3%)]. Factor loadings ranged from ∼ 0.50 to 0.83 across the 4 components. The Kaiser-Meyer Olkin sample adequacy test (KMO) reflected adequate adequacy (KMO = 0.79, chi-square (X2) = 498.806, gl = 78, p = 0.00). The CFA showed a satisfactory final fit [chi-square (X2) = 126.748, Root mean squared error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.042, Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.946, Comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.935 y Normed fit index (NFI) = 0.90. The relationships between the FRS scale and functional fitness tests (right and left hand grip strength, biceps curl, up-and-go, agility and 6-minute walk test) ranged from low to moderate (r= -0.23 to 0.41). CONCLUSION: The FRS scale showed acceptable validity and reliability in older adults in central region of Chile. It is expected that this scale will be useful for assessing fall risk in clinical and epidemiological settings in the aging Chilean population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness, version 2 (MAIA-2) is a commonly utilized self-report instrument to assess individuals' ability to perceive bodily sensations. The MAIA-2 has displayed variable psychometric properties across samples. Thus, we examine the psychometric properties of the MAIA-2 in a Southeastern United States college sample. PARTICIPANTS: Our studies consisted of 710 (study 1) and 66 (study 2) college students. METHODS: Study 1 used a cross-sectional research design where we investigated the factor structure, and measurement invariance (e.g., measured similarly across genders). Study 2 examined the test-retest reliability across a three-week period. RESULTS: The MAIA-2 displayed adequate to good internal consistencies and factor loadings, strict invariance, and questionable temporal stability. CONCLUSION: The MAIA-2 demonstrates adequate psychometric properties in this college sample that were similar to the original MAIA sample characteristics. Contextual and cultural factors may influence the subjective experience of interpreting bodily sensations.

RESUMO

Many social cognitive assessments that were developed specifically for use in clinical populations are now being widely used in undergraduate populations, either to provide a comparison for clinical groups or to explore performance across the continuum from healthy to subclinical populations. However, the appropriateness of using these assessments in the general population is unclear. The current study, therefore, seeks to determine whether the Social Cognition Psychometric Evaluation (SCOPE) battery retains its psychometric properties when used in an undergraduate sample. The initial SCOPE battery was administered to 265 undergraduate participants, and the utility of the tasks was measured by assessing floor and ceiling effects. Internal consistency, discriminant and convergent validity are reported for each task, and the relationship between task performance and neurocognition and social functioning were assessed.Several of the tasks demonstrated limited utility, with the Hinting Task specifically demonstrating a pronounced ceiling effect. Only two measures of social cognitive biases achieved satisfactory internal consistency. Select tasks demonstrated small, but significant relationships with social functioning outcomes and significantly predicted 2-3% of variance above neurocognition alone.Despite the association with social functioning, results indicate that the psychometric properties demonstrated in the initial SCOPE study with a clinical sample do not fully extend to a healthy undergraduate population and highlight the need for social cognitive tasks that validly assess ability across the continuum.
