ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) transmitted by biological, socioeconomic and cultural factors that increase the vulnerability of certain population groups such as civil construction workers. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the knowledge of workers in the construction industry about infection by HIV and associated factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted, including 381 construction workers, in the cities of João Pessoa, Cabedelo, and Santa Rita, in the State of Paraíba, Brazil, performed through interviews, using a data collection instrument with social demographic variables and the HIV Knowledge Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive measures, and for comparison between the categories the Kruskal-Wallis test was used, with margin of error of 5%. RESULTS: A predominance of male workers was observed (97.4%) among 381 workers; aged 30-39 (34.1%); married (81.4%); with up to eight years of education (66.6%); family income of up to 2x the minimum wage (52.8%) and coming from the country (43.8%). The average of correct responses was 63.3%, with higher indices (70.0%) related to transmission and forms of prevention. There were higher percentages of hits among those who had studied for 12 years or more. Workers from the capital of Paraíba presented a higher number of correct responses (67.44%). CONCLUSIONS: There is a low index of knowledge of construction workers about HIV, highlighting their consequent vulnerability to acquiring this infection.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study was to map the available evidence on the mental health risk factors of frontline health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a systematic review that followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria. The search was independently carried out by four researchers, following the selection criteria in the electronic databases: PubMed Central, Ovid Technologies, GALE Academic Onefile, Science Citation Index Expanded. The data processing used Zotero software, responsible for creating and importing items according to the criteria established by the research. A total of 18,733 articles were found, of which 2,722 were excluded by the Zotero software because they were in duplicate, and another 366 were manually excluded. After applying the selection criteria, 43 articles entered the final analysis of this review. It is recommended that new scientific research be carried out, especially focusing on the analysis of health workers' mental health, aiming at providing the basis to create and implement public mental health programs and policies for workers.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate factors associated with negative self-rated health among middle-aged women treated at a climacteric outpatient clinic. Method: This is a cross-sectional, analytical study conducted with 116 women assisted in the period between March 2015 and March 2020 at the climacteric outpatient clinic of a university hospital in Cuiabá, MT, Brazil. Data were collected through telephone interviews from October 2020 to January 2021, using a questionnaire containing questions about sociodemographic, health and psychosocial data. Self-rated health was checked by asking the subjects how they rated their health. The association measure used was the prevalence ratio and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Poisson's multiple regression was used in the multivariate analysis. Results: Most middle-aged women in this study (54.3%) had negative self-rated health. The factor associated with the outcome was menopausal symptoms (p< 0.001), identified in the severe menopausal symptoms category PR= 2.95 (95%CI 1.4-6.3). Conclusion: The higher prevalence of negative self-rated health among the women in this study is probably related to the life stage they are experiencing. Menopausal symptoms are associated with women's perception of health due to their discomfort and consequent impact on their lives.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Determine complications' incidence and risk factors in high-energy distal femur fractures fixed with a lateral locked plate. Methods: Forty-seven patients were included; 87.2% were male, and the average age was 38.9. The main radiographic parameters collected were distal lateral femoral angle (DFA), distal posterior femoral angle (DPLF), comminution length, plate length, screw working length, bone loss, and medial contact after reduction and plate-bone contact, location of callus formation, and implant failure. The complications recorded were nonunion, implant failure, and infection. Results: Complex C2 and C3 fractures accounted for 85.1% of cases. Open fractures accounted for 63.8% of cases. The mean AFDL and AFDP were 79.8 4.0 and 79.3 6.0, respectively. The average total proximal and distal working lengths were 133.3 42.7, 60.4 33.4, and 29.5 21.8 mm, respectively. The infection rate was 29.8%, and the only risk factor was open fracture (p = 0.005). The nonunion rate was 19.1%, with longer working length (p = 0.035) and higher PDFA (p = 0.001) as risk factors. The site of callus formation also influenced pseudoarthrosis (p = 0.034). Conclusion: High-energy distal femoral fractures have a higher incidence of pseudoarthrosis and infection. Nonunion has greater working length, greater AFDL, and absence of callus formation on the medial and posterior sides as risk factors. The risk factor for infection was an open fracture. Level of Evidence III; Retrospective Cohort Study .

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the sexual practices, attitudes, and sexual quality of life of Riparian woman and associated factors. METHOD: A cross-sectional analytical study conducted among Riparian women using the Study of Sexual Behaviour (SSB) questionnaire. A bivariate analysis and binary logistic regressions were performed to identify factors associated with sexual quality of life. RESULTS: A total of 138 women participated in the study (n = 138). Of the women, 34.1% and 33.3% reported pain and loss of interest during or after sex, respectively. In terms of practices during sex, women reported kissing (85.5%), cuddling (89.1%), mutual masturbation (37.2%), oral sex (34.8%), and anal sex (23.9%). However, the majority reported not using condoms during sex (63.0%). In terms of sexual quality of life, 39.9% of the women rated it as good. Higher education and early sexual initiation increase the chances of a "good" sexual quality of life. CONCLUSION: Because Riparian women engage in some risky sexual behaviours, such as not using condoms, educational strategies on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections should be reinforced and incorporated in this population. This may help improve these women's sexual quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: case tracking through COVID-19 screening tests is indispensable to control/delay the spread of the disease. Objective: to identify the incidence of COVID-19 through the positivity of rapid tests and associated factors in the population of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Methods: cross-sectional study, developed with 121,622 individuals notified and residing in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from March to June 2020, from public domain data. For the analysis, positive results in COVID-19 rapid tests were considered. Bivariate analyses were performed to identify the association between the positive result in the rapid tests and demographic and clinical variables and the time elapsed between the onset of symptoms and the performance of the test. Likewise, odds ratios and their respective confidence intervals were calculated at the 95% level, and the p-value presented through the Wald method. Results: predominance of male individuals, 51%; in the age range of 20 to 39 years, 46,4%; and health professionals, 99,9%. Regarding the time elapsed between the onset of clinical signs and symptoms and diagnosis, 61,7% of the individuals who were tested up to 9 days after the onset of symptoms had a positive result. Sex, age group and time to test were associated with a positive result for the COVID-19 rapid test. Conclusion: it is important to minimize false-positive test results by choosing an assay with high specificity and testing populations and individuals in a timely manner.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder with symptoms that can severely affect patients' quality of life. While drug administration inhibits most of the positive symptoms, it fails to effectively treat the negative symptoms and in turn relies on rehabilitation therapies. With technological progress, virtual reality (VR) has been the target of recent studies in terms of mental health rehabilitation and has been shown to be a tool with ecological validity in order to introduce the individual to situations similar to their daily life. METHODS: From July to August 2021, we conducted a systematic review with the purpose of understanding the impact of virtual reality rehabilitation on negative symptoms and psychosocial rehabilitation in the schizophrenia spectrum. The searches were performed in the databases Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. RESULTS: In our search, we identified 201 results, where 108 duplicates were excluded, resulting in a final balance of 93. After reading and assessing the titles and abstracts, 66 studies were excluded. Of the remaining 27 reports, 23 were excluded for not meeting the previously defined eligibility criteria, resulting in the inclusion of four studies in this systematic review. CONCLUSIONS: The available data on the specific topic was limited and could have been more complete. However, in our review, we were able to identify statistically relevant results demonstrating the effectiveness of intervention. We could find medium to large effects, allowing VR to be an ally for rehabilitation of symptoms related to schizophrenia.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by SARS-COV2, a highly transmissible and pathogenic viral infection, and was identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. Three months later, it became a severe pandemic. OBJECTIVE: To identify scientific evidence on the use of face shields by health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic period. METHOD: An integrative literature review of articles obtained from PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Web of Science databases was undertaken. For the search, controlled, non-controlled descriptors and specific keywords: "face shield," "fluid resistance procedure," "respiratory infections," "healthcare workers," "COVID-19," "aerosols," and "personal protection infection" were used. RESULTS: The sample comprised seven studies. The available evidence has shown that face shields do not have a defined standard for their production-their effectiveness depends on the quality of the visor, structure, and fixation system. They must be used as adjuvants to other personal protective equipment (PPE), and their isolated use is not recommended due to the fragilities of peripheral face sealing, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic period. CONCLUSION: Due to the shortage of this equipment, domestic face shields can be indicated if they meet production requirements, based on scientific evidence for their efficient use.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The initial treatment of cervicalgia due to degeneration of the intervertebral discs is conservative, but in case of failure, discectomy is the usual surgical option, replacing the disc with a bone graft or another structure that fully or partially fulfills the functions of the former. The Neurosurgery Service of the Camilo Cienfuegos General Hospital in Cuba has designed a new cervical intervertebral disc prosthesis model to treat this disease. Objective: To evaluate the mechanical performance of the prosthesis designed through the finite element method under the usual loads of the cervical spine. Material and Methods: An experimental study was carried out using numerical simulation according to the finite element method, subjecting the prosthesis to the axial loads recommended by ASTM F2423-11e ISO 18192-1.2011 standards using Free CAD 0.18 software. Results: The greatest efforts supported by the prosthesis in the neutral position, anterior flexion and lateral flexion were 28.79 MPa, 52.29 MPa and 55.59 MPa, respectively. The prosthesis did not suffer any fracture as it did not exceed the values prior to the elastic limit of the material that constitutes it. The greatest deformation described was 1 956;m. Conclusions: The highest concentration of efforts in the prosthesis was located at the point of contact of the prismatic cavity of the upper part when making contact with the prism of the lower part. The designed device did not undergo any significant deformation or fracture at the applied loads(AU)

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to verify the association between work and sociodemographic factors, health behaviors, and cardiovascular risk in Brazilian adolescents. Data from the Study of Cardiovascular Risks in Adolescents (ERICA) were analyzed, with a sample of 37,815 adolescents aged 12-17 years and morning shift students. Considering complex sampling, crude and adjusted Prevalence Ratios (PR) were calculated with interval estimates for variables by Poisson multiple regression model with robust variance estimate. The sociodemographic factors associated with work among Brazilian adolescents were male gender (PR 1.34), aged 15-17 years, with maternal schooling up to elementary school (PR 1.26), public school students (PR 1.63), and from the rural area (PR 1.90). Regarding lifestyle habits and social behavior, the association was significant in physically active (PR 1.19) and alcohol-consuming students (PR 1.35). In conclusion, work among Brazilian adolescent morning shift students is still strongly linked to social issues. Work was associated with alcohol consumption, and there was no association with metabolic markers.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The problem of illnesses, sick leave and the necessary return to work and permanence at work has been determining the development of different protocols and professional rehabilitation programs in different countries. OBJECTIVE: We sought to identify articles that address programs for professional rehabilitation and the return to work of people laid off due to mental health problems, and to verify the results of professional rehabilitation programs and the follow-up processes for such return. METHOD: A systematic review was performed according to the criteria of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA). The serial search of the articles was carried out in the electronic databases: Web of Science, MEDLINE/PubMed and Scopus. The variations in the descriptors served to find a greater range of significant results for the research. RESULTS: In total, 2,306 articles were found. Another two articles that met the inclusion criteria were located through manual searches, adding up to a total of 2,308. Applying the exclusion criteria resulted in a final data set of 47 peer-reviewed articles. CONCLUSIONS: The issues involving return to work and permanence in work were complex and multifaceted in the research articles studied. Recovery from Common Mental Disorders (CMDs) is a major cause of long-term sick leave and the granting of disability benefits. Many people with these diagnoses remain employed; however, further studies are needed with women, workers with fragile relationships, and immigrants.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This theoretical essay aims to point out the main contributions in the health and workers' safety aspects, considering the laws, public policies, international recommendations, and point out possible paths and roles of Occupational Therapy to fight against COVID-19 Brazilian pandemic. The literature shows that health care workers have three times more likely to get infected than the general population. Thus, in Brazil, the Federal Government needs to articulate with the local and regional sphere to create, adapt, implement and inspect laws, policies, and standards on workers' health and safety to ensure conditions to work and reduce health risks for workers during the pandemic. Regarding Occupational Therapy, initial guidelines were pointed out about the work in the occupational health, considering policies of the Unified Health System, National Health Policy for Workers and Federal Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. The actions must be directed not only to health service workers, but also to other essential assistance services, and those who work in an unregulated manner.
