ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Glucomannan has been studied for various health benefits, but its effects on lipid profile in adults are not well understood. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the impact of glucomannan supplementation on serum/plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), Apo B1, Apo A1, APO-B/ A1 ratio, and LDL-C/ HDL-C in adults. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from inception to June 2024 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing glucomannan supplementation on lipid profile in adults. Data were extracted and analyzed using random effects model to determine the standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for each biomarker. RESULTS: Glucomannan supplementation significantly decreased TC (SMD: -3.299; 95% CI: -4.955, -1.664, P < 0.001; I 2 = 95.41%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), LDL-C (SMD: -2.993; 95% CI: -4.958, -1.028; P = 0.006; I 2 = 95.49%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), and Apo B1 (SMD: -2.2; 95% CI: -3.58, -0.82; P = 0.01). However, glucomannan did not alter the levels of TG (SMD: -0.119; 95% CI: -1.076, 0.837, P = 0.789; I 2 = 91.63%, P-heterogeneity < 0.001), Apo A1 (SMD: -0.48; 95% CI: -6.27, 5.32; P = 0.76), APO-B/ A1 ratio (SMD: -1.15; 95% CI: -2.91, 0.61; P = 0.11), and LDL-C/ HDL-C ratio (SMD: -2.2; 95% CI: -7.28, 2.87; P = 0.2). CONCLUSIONS: Glucomannan supplementation has a beneficial effect on the level of TC and LDL-C.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Aedes mosquito is the primary vector of emerging or re-emerging arboviruses that threaten public health worldwide. Many efforts have been made to develop interventions to control the Aedes mosquito. This scoping review was conducted to identify the nature and scope of educational interventions to prevent and control diseases transmitted through the Aedes mosquito. The findings can be used to evaluate, compare, and develop appropriate control strategies. METHODS: The present scoping review was conducted in 2023 and used Arksey and O'Malley's approach, which involves five key stages. To search for academic papers, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and ScienceDirect databases were used with a combination of keywords about Aedes mosquitoes, educational interventions, and disease prevention and control. The search was not limited by the publication date, yet only included studies published in English. Studies were included that reported the educational interventions about Aedes mosquito control at the community or organizational level. The screening of papers was done based on the PRISMA-ScR guideline. Excel 2019 was used for data analysis. RESULTS: Initially, 3,172 papers were extracted, and after screenings and reviews, a total number of 45 final papers were selected. The studies focused on educational interventions. Twenty interventional studies were at the organizational level and 25 at the community level. The latter was the most commonly used strategy. Interventions using educational approaches have achieved sustainable results. Out of the forty-five studies, twenty-one were assessed to have a low risk of bias. CONCLUSIONS: The present scoping review evaluates the effectiveness of educational interventions at various community levels for controlling Aedes-borne diseases, emphasizing the need for multidisciplinary collaboration. Controlling Aedes mosquitoes using education and attracting the community's participation is an effective approach to reduce diseases transmitted through Aedes. The development of education at different levels of the community, such as educational and occupational environments, can play a role in the effectiveness of societal education and can be more cost-effective. Maintaining the effect of this approach is challenging because it requires multi-sector and multidisciplinary team participation and active community engagement over the long term. Further research is required to explore the removal of barriers to the implementation of educational interventions and the consistency of effects.

Background: Self -rated health (SRH) is a subjective assessment of health status that results from asking a question as "How do you assess your health?". The aim of this study was to determine the value of SRH for survival of older adults. Materials and Methods: This cohort study was conducted among a population aged 60 years and over living in the north region of Iran. The participants' characteristics including demographic information, life-style behaviors, medical history, body mass index, depressive symptoms, cognitive function, and social support were examined. SRH was categorized into two groups (1. poor or fair and 2. good or excellent). All of the study population were followed up again after 5 years to determine the survival condition. Results: Totally, 1475 elderly people were included. Good or excellent SRH showed a significant association with male gender, to be married, higher physical activity, less co-morbid chronic disorders, no depressive symptoms, normal cognitive function, higher social support, smoking (P < 0.001), and normal body mass index (BMI) (P = 0.021); however, no significant association with age (P < 0.083) was observed. Out of 944 elderly people expressing good or excellent SRH, 85 (9%) persons died after 5-year follow-up (P < 0.001). Cox regression analysis revealed that SRH had a significant impact on mortality of older adults (adjusted hazard ratio = 1.447; 95% confidence interval: 1.008-2.076; P = 0.045). Conclusion: Considering health-related characteristics including age, gender, number of drugs the participant was taking, physical activity, BMI, and social support, SRH showed a significant effect on 5-year survival of older adults.

BACKGROUND: Malaria disease is one of the most dangerous protozoan parasitic infections with a high mortality rate in developing countries. Malaria is a public health issue, especially in Hormozgan province, and is highly affected by foreign immigrants (Pakistani and Afghani); thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of an intervention based on the health belief model (HBM) on the promotion of malaria prevention behaviors in Afghani immigrants over the age of 18. The participants resided in Persian city in Hormozgan province. METHODS: The present quasi-experimental study was conducted on 200 Afghans immigrants over 18 years of age who visited four comprehensive health service centers in Parsian city, south of Iran in June until December 2023. Sampling was by cluster method. In this way, the health centers were considered as clusters, and then 4 centers were randomly selected from among them (two centers of the control group and two centers of the intervention group) and participants were selected by a systematic random method by list of records in the National Integrated Health Record System (called SIB) (100participants control group, 100 participants intervention group). The data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire based on the HBM before and after the educational intervention An educational program was designed and implemented to promote preventive behaviors against malaria in five sessions using different strategies and based on the HBM for the intervention group. The data were analyzed using independent-samples T-test, paired-samples T-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, analysis of covariance and linear regression. All statistical analyses and hypothesis testing were done in IBM SPSS version 25, at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS: In the intervention group, there was a significant difference in the mean scores of knowledge (6.48, 95% CI: 5.9,7.05), perceived susceptibility (10.57, 95% CI: 10.03, 11.1), perceived severity (16.61, 95% CI: 15.83, 16.83), perceived self-efficacy (18.26, 95% CI: 17.55, 18.96), perceived benefits (15.43, 95% CI: 14.68, 16.17), perceived barriers (-22.49, 95% CI: -23.63, -21.30), cues to action (15.06, 95% CI: 14.36, 15.75), and preventive behaviors (20.05, 95% CI: 19.44, 20.65), before and after the educational intervention. P-value < 0.001. The regression analysis showed that the constructs of perceived susceptibility (T = 4.72, P < 0.001), cues to action (T = 5.30, P < 0.001)and perceived self-efficacy (T = 4.93, P < 0.001) led to the greatest change in malaria prevention behaviors(R-Square = 0.549). CONCLUSION: The present findings showed that the HBM -based intervention was effective in preventive behaviors against malaria in Afghans. It is recommended to design suitable educational interventions in order to increase the perceived susceptibility, cues to action and self-efficacy in order to improve preventive behaviors against malaria in Afghans.

INTRODUCTION: Quality of life (QOL) is a key concept in the field of health and future human life depends on understanding the factors affecting the QOL. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between health hardiness and health-promoting lifestyle with QOL among residents of Bastak city. METHODS: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on the adult population above the age of 18 years living in Bastak city in Hormozgan province. A total number of 400 subjects were selected using a convenient sampling method. An online questionnaire was used to collect the data, which consisted of four sections: demographic information, health hardiness questionnaire, health-promoting lifestyle questionnaire and world health organization quality of life questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). Data were analyzed using statistical tests including Pearson correlation analysis, path analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) with SPSS 24 and AMOS 21 statistical software. RESULTS: A total of 400 subjects with the mean age of 34.81 ± 8.94 years participated in this study. There were significant positive relationships between health hardiness (r = .499, p = .000), health value (r = .491, p = .000), internal health locus of control (r = .468, p = .000), external health locus of control (r = .19, p = .000), perceived health competence (r = .415, p = .000), health responsibility (r = .473, p = .000), physical activity (r = .356, p = .000), nutrition (r = .392, p = .000), interpersonal relations (r = .458, p = .000), spiritual growth (r = .619, p = .000), stress management (r = .514, p = .000) and health promoting life-style (r = .593, p = .000) With QOL. CONCLUSION: According to our findings, health-promoting lifestyle has a positive relationship with QOL. Therefore, the policy makers and executive managers of the health sector can improve people's QOL by designing and implementing educational interventions that are focused on improvement the level of individual's physical activity, spiritual growth, interpersonal interactions, stress management, nutrition and individual responsibility.

ABSTRACT

Most cases of congenital coronary artery fistula (CAF) resolve spontaneously, symptomatic patients with severe shunting require surgical intervention. Our aim is to evaluate success rate and outcome of CAFs treatment using transcatheter interventional methods.This retrospective study conducted on 28 CAF patients who were referred to Rajaie Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran between 2015 and 2020. Baseline characteristics were collected by assessing hospital records, and patients were followed up annually for long-term evaluation. All of 28 patients gone throughtranscatheter closure of CAF. In 23 patient's it was proximal type (82.1%) and in 5 patients was distal type (17.9%). In 11 patients, the fistula originated from the RCA (39.3%) and in 11 patients, it originated from the LAD and Diagonal. Most common drainage site was the pulmonary artery (82.1%). Coil used in 23 patients(82.1%). PDA occluder (7.1%) for 2 patients. VSD occluder for one patient (3.6%) and VSD+PDA occluder combination was used for one patient (3.6%). Procedure failure was in only one patient. Non-significant remaining shunt in the injection immediately after the procedure was seen in 4 patients (14.3%), which was reduced during the follow-up. None of the patients had significant shunt or clinical symptoms during long-term follow-up. As for complications, fistula dissection occurred in only one patient.The transcatheter interventional approach for the treatment of CAFs leads to favorable long-term results.

Background: Lysophosphatidic acid receptor 1 (LPAR1) has been identified as a biomarker in various cancer types. However, its biological function in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) remains unknown. Methods: LPAR1 was identified as a key regulator of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in PTC cells through bioinformatics analysis of TCGA and GEO datasets. PPI analysis and correlation with immune infiltrates were also conducted. LPAR1 expression was evaluated using Gepia2 and GTEx, and miRNA target gene prediction was done with multiMiR. To assess the expression of LPAR1, we extracted total RNA from both the BCPAP cell line and the normal human thyroid epithelial cell line Nthy-ori 3-1. The levels of LPAR1 expression were then measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in the BCPAP cell line, with a comparison to the Nthy-ori 3-1 cell line. Results: 1081 genes were upregulated, and 544 were downregulated compared to normal tissue. LPAR1 was identified as a key candidate by analyzing the TCGA and GEO datasets. PPI data analysis showed interactions with metastasis-related proteins. Functional enrichment analysis indicated involvement in signaling pathways like phospholipase D and actin cytoskeleton regulation. LPAR1 expression correlated positively with immune infiltrates such as CD4+ T cells, macrophages, neutrophils, and myeloid dendritic cells but negatively with B cells. Additionally, miR-221-5p was predicted to target LPAR1 in PTC. Furthermore, our experimental data demonstrated that LPAR1 was under-expressed in the PTC cell line compared to the nonmalignant one (P < .01). Conclusion: LPAR1 suppresses metastasis and is linked to EMT, as evidenced by the decreased LPAR1 expression and increased miR-221-5p in PTC. This suggests its potential as a biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis and as a therapeutic target for EMT.

BACKGROUND: Assessment of self-care behaviors in patients with hypertension may provide clinicians and practitioners with important information about how to better control hypertension. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore the predictors of self-care behaviors in patients with hypertension based on an integrated model of theories of planned behavior and protection motivation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present cross-sectional study was part of a larger study, conducted in 2022 on 344 hypertensive patients from Khamir County in Hormozgan Province in Iran. The sample was selected through a systematic random sampling. The patients completed a researcher-made questionnaire based on constructs of the theory of planned behavior and protection motivation theory. They also completed, Hypertension Self-Care Activity Level Effects (H-SCALE), Hypertension Knowledge-Level Scale (HK-LS), and a demographic questionnaire. The data were analyzed in SPSS 21 using the Pearson correlation coefficient, independent-samples T test, one-way ANOVA, and linear regression analysis. RESULTS: The participants' mean age was 47.34 ± 13.68 years. Adherence to medication, physical activity, weight management, diet, and nonsmoking scores were 42.7, 27.3, 66.3, 14.2, and 81.1, respectively. The linear regression model showed that behavioral beliefs (ß = 0.366, P < 0.001), perceived rewards (ß = -0.248, P < 0.001), control beliefs (ß = 0.133, P = 0.013), and normative beliefs (ß = 0.143, P = 0.025) were the major predictors of self-care behaviors in patients with hypertension. CONCLUSION: In light of the present findings, it can be concluded that it is crucial to change patients' attitudes toward self-care behaviors and improve the social acceptance of behavior and its development in society, and improve patients' control beliefs through goal-oriented education that develops resistance against the perceived rewards of the unfavorable behavior. Considering these constructs can act as strategies to promote self-care behaviors among patients.

The oral microbiome potentially wields significant influence in the development of cancer. Within the human oral cavity, an impressive diversity of more than 700 bacterial species resides, making it the second most varied microbiome in the body. This finely balanced oral microbiome ecosystem is vital for sustaining oral health. However, disruptions in this equilibrium, often brought about by dietary habits and inadequate oral hygiene, can result in various oral ailments like periodontitis, cavities, gingivitis, and even oral cancer. There is compelling evidence that the oral microbiome is linked to several types of cancer, including oral, pancreatic, colorectal, lung, gastric, and head and neck cancers. This review discussed the critical connections between cancer and members of the human oral microbiota. Extensive searches were conducted across the Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed databases to provide an up-to-date overview of our understanding of the oral microbiota's role in various human cancers. By understanding the possible microbial origins of carcinogenesis, healthcare professionals can diagnose neoplastic diseases earlier and design treatments accordingly.

Background and Aims: Paravalvular leak (PVL) is a serious complication of prosthetic valve replacement. Both surgical and percutaneous closure techniques are used for PVL closure, but optimal strategies and comparative outcomes are uncertain. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of percutaneous versus surgical PVL closure by analyzing changes in leak severity, functional status, echocardiographic parameters, and clinical outcomes. Methods: A total of 72 patients were included in this retrospective cross-sectional single-center study comparing percutaneous (n = 25) and surgical (n = 47) PVL closure from 2015 to 2022. Demographics, medical history, echocardiograms, laboratory data, complications, and mortality data were extracted from the records. Changes in leak severity, NYHA class, echocardiographic parameters, and clinical outcomes were compared between the percutaneous and surgical groups. Results: Both percutaneous and surgical PVL closure significantly reduced leak severity and improved NYHA class (both p < 0.01), with no difference between the quantity of changes in each group. The 30-day mortality was 4% after percutaneous and 6.4% after surgical closure (p = 0.65). At 90 days, mortality was 24% percutaneous versus 17% surgical (p = 0.48). The length of stay in the hospital and post-procedural decrease in hemoglobin were considerably lower in the percutaneous group. The rate of complication rates was similar between the groups. Echocardiographic changes were also comparable. Conclusion: Percutaneous and surgical PVL closure had similar efficacy in reducing leaks and improving symptoms, with no significant difference in early outcomes. Both options should be considered viable for PVL repair after heart team evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) as a chronic disease requires treatment adherence such as controlling the blood glucose level and adopting a healthy lifestyle. The present study aimed to develop and psychometrically evaluate a questionnaire based on the Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM) to measure treatment adherence and the associated factors among T2D patients. METHODS: The present study was conducted in qualitative and the quantitative phases between March 2022 and March 2023. The participants were T2D patients visiting Shahid Mohammadi hospital Diabetes Clinic in Bandar Abbas in the south of Iran. The first draft of items was extracted from the qualitative phase. The present study used interviews with T2D patients, item construction, validity and reliability evaluation of the instrument, and the relevant statistical analyses. It emphasized the significance of content, face, and construct validity, along with reliability testing using Cronbach's alpha and test-retest method. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, V16 and AMOS, V23. RESULTS: A 97-item questionnaire was developed through the qualitative phase and, after content validity, it was reduced to 86 items. Five items were removed in face validation, and after the test-retest method, 79 items were retained. The confirmatory factors analysis confirmed a 65-item model with appropriate fitness of data. Cronbach's alpha coefficient showed an acceptable reliability of the diabetes treatment adherence questionnaire (α = 0.92). CONCLUSION: The questionnaire developed based on the HPM model provides a standard and comprehensive measurement of the degree of adherence to treatment and the associated factors among Iranian T2D patients. This is especially valuable in the Iranian healthcare context, where effective management of chronic diseases such as diabetes is of a top priority. Questionnaires can help identify barriers and facilitators of treatment adherence to inform systematic and goal-oriented interventions. The proposed questionnaire had good psychometric properties, and can be used as a valid and practical instrument to measure the factors related to treatment adherence behaviors.

ABSTRACT

Aim: Cu2O nanoparticles were synthesized using an extract from S. latifolium algae (SLCu2O NPs). Their effect on PANC-1 cells and the expression of two drug resistance-related lncRNAs were evaluated in comparison with Arsenic trioxide.Materials & methods: SLCu2O NPs were characterized using XRD, SEM, and TEM microscopies. The effects of SLCu2O NPs on cell cytotoxicity, cell cycle, and apoptosis, and expression of two drug resistance-related lncRNAs were examined using MTT assay, flow cytometry, and real-time PCR, respectively.Results: SLCu2O NPs demonstrated anti-cancer properties against PANC-1 cells comparable to Arsenic trioxide, and the expression of lncRNAs increased upon treatment with them.Conclusion: SLCu2O NPs demonstrate anti-cancer properties against PANC-1 cells; however, using gene silencing strategies along with SLCu2O NPs is suggested.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to determine the effect of an intervention based on Pender's health promotion model (HPM) on treatment adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS: The present quasi-experimental study with a 3-month follow-up was conducted in Bandar Abbas, a city in the south of Iran in 2023. The intervention group (IG) with a total number of 95 T2D patients was selected from Hormuz diabetes clinic and the control group (CG) with 95 T2D patients was selected from comprehensive health centers through a clustering sampling method. The educational intervention was implemented in 10 sessions to improve patients' treatment adherence. The teaching methods in training sessions were lectures, joint discussions, Q&A, role-play and peer training. The participants were evaluated using a researcher-made questionnaire including the constructs of Pender's HPM about T2D treatment adherence, hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C), and BMI. Independent-samples t-test, paired-samples t-test, covariance analysis and stepwise regression analysis were used. Data analysis was done in SPSS 26. FINDINGS: Three months after the intervention, in comparison to the CG, the mean and standard deviation of treatment adherence benefits (p = 0.002), treatment adherence self-efficacy (p = 0.010), treatment adherence related affect (p = 0.001), interpersonal influences (p = 0.012), commitment to plan of action (p < 0.001), treatment adherence behavior (p = 0.022), treatment adherence experiences (p = 0.001) was higher in the IG. The mean and standard deviation of situational influences (p < 0.001), immediate competing demands and preferences (p = 0.018) were lower than the CG. The results obtained from the analysis of covariance proved the effectiveness of the intervention in the constructs of Pender's HPM and HbA1C in participants of the IG (p < 0.001). The regression analysis showed, after the intervention, for every 1 unit of change in commitment to behavior planning, action related affect and perceived self-efficacy, compared to before the intervention, there were 0.22 units, 0.16 units and 0.26 units of change in the behavior score in the IG. CONCLUSION: The findings proved the effectiveness of the educational intervention in improving the constructs in Pender's HPM and the blood sugar level of T2D patients. As the results of the educational intervention showed, the use of a suitable educational approach as well as the development of appropriate educational content for the target population can significantly improve the treatment adherence behavior. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the utility of point of care screening of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the impact of a telemedicine program to overcome current challenges. METHODS: This was a retrospective study on people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who were screened for DR using the single-field non-mydriatic fundus photography at the point of care during routine follow-up visits at endocrinology clinic. Retinal images were uploaded and sent to a retina specialist for review. Reports indicating retinopathy status and the need for direct retinal examination were transmitted back to the endocrinology clinic. All patients were informed about DR status and, if needed, referred to the retina specialist for direct retinal examination. RESULTS: Of the 1159 individuals screened for DR, 417 persons (35.98%) were screen-positive and referred to the retina specialist for direct retinal examination. A total of 121 individuals (29.01%) underwent direct retinal examination by the specialist. Diabetes macular edema (DME) was detected in 12.1%. In addition, non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) were detected in 53.4% and 2.6% of the patients, respectively. CONCLUSION: Integrating DR screening program at the point of care at the secondary care services improves the rate of DR screening as well as detection of sight threatening retinopathy and provides the opportunity for timely intervention in order to prevent advanced retinopathy in people with T2DM.

ABSTRACT

Phage libraries are now amongst the most prominent approaches for the identification of high-affinity antibodies/peptides from billions of displayed phages in a specific library through the biopanning process. Due to its ability to discover potential therapeutic candidates that bind specifically to targets, phage display has gained considerable attention in targeted therapy. Using this approach, peptides with high-affinity and specificity can be identified for potential therapeutic or diagnostic use. Furthermore, phage libraries can be used to rapidly screen and identify novel antibodies to develop immunotherapeutics. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved several phage display-derived peptides and antibodies for the treatment of different diseases. In the current review, we provided a comprehensive insight into the role of phage display-derived peptides and antibodies in the treatment of different diseases including cancers, infectious diseases and neurological disorders. We also explored the applications of phage display in targeted drug delivery, gene therapy, and CAR T-cell.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The use of MR imaging in emergency settings has been limited by availability, long scan times, and sensitivity to motion. This study assessed the diagnostic performance of an ultrafast brain MR imaging protocol for evaluation of acute intracranial pathology in the emergency department and inpatient settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-six adult patients who underwent brain MR imaging in the emergency department and inpatient settings were included in the study. All patients underwent both the reference and the ultrafast brain MR protocols. Both brain MR imaging protocols consisted of T1-weighted, T2/T2*-weighted, FLAIR, and DWI sequences. The ultrafast MR images were reconstructed by using a machine-learning assisted framework. All images were reviewed by 2 blinded neuroradiologists. RESULTS: The average acquisition time was 2.1 minutes for the ultrafast brain MR protocol and 10 minutes for the reference brain MR protocol. There was 98.5% agreement on the main clinical diagnosis between the 2 protocols. In head-to-head comparison, the reference protocol was preferred in terms of image noise and geometric distortion (P < .05 for both). The ultrafast ms-EPI protocol was preferred over the reference protocol in terms of reduced motion artifacts (P < .01). Overall diagnostic quality was not significantly different between the 2 protocols (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS: The ultrafast brain MR imaging protocol provides high accuracy for evaluating acute pathology while only requiring a fraction of the scan time. Although there was greater image noise and geometric distortion on the ultrafast brain MR protocol images, there was significant reduction in motion artifacts with similar overall diagnostic quality between the 2 protocols.

ABSTRACT

Background and Aims: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common cardiovascular disease worldwide. Nutrition and physical activity are recognized as the major lifestyle-related behaviors to reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases. It is essential to explain personal cognitive factors to identify potential ways to increase physical activity and improve nutritional behavior. Therefore, the present study aimed to explain the personal cognitive factors affecting physical activity and nutritional behavior in the middle-aged population at risk of a CAD. Methods: The present qualitative study was conducted with a directed content analysis approach. A purposive sampling was used with maximum variety of sex, age, education, marital status, job, and risk factors of CAD. The data were collected through semistructured interviews with 20 middle-aged participants at the risk of CAD visiting comprehensive health centers in Bandar Abbas city. The interviews continued until data saturation. Results: The present findings led to the identification of 4 main categories (i.e., self-efficacy, collective efficacy, outcome expectations, knowledge) and 10 subcategories. Conclusion: It seems that to increase the self-efficacy, attention should be paid to individuals' past experiences, self-efficacy of action and maintenance and successful middle-aged peers. Measures should be taken to improve and strengthen it. Peer support, networking, forming online groups (in social networks), and a comprehensive use of social media can help increase collective efficacy. Expectations of positive and negative outcomes and the public knowledge can also be modified through accurate and appropriate information provided in different campaigns for awareness-raising.

Background and Aims: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, also known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), is spreading rapidly in the world, especially in developing countries, and is considered a serious health threat. This study aimed to assess the relationship of adherence antiretroviral therapy (ART) and self-efficacy among people living with HIV. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in March-July 2022 at the Center for Behavioral Diseases in Bandar Abbas. A total number of 208 HIV patients treated with ART entered the study after voluntarily signing an informed letter of consent. The data collection instrument was the adherence to ART questionnaire with the six subscales and the General Self-Efficacy Scale-17 (GSE-17) general self-efficacy questionnaire. Multivariate regression analysis was used to test the relationship among the variables. Results: The participants' mean age was 41.7 ± 8.2 years. Self-efficacy was positively correlated with adherence ART. With every one score of increased self-efficacy, MA increased for 0.85 score (p < 0.001) and medical challenges have the strongest correlation (r = 0.27) with self-efficacy. The multivariable regression analysis showed that moderate and high socioeconomic status (SES) each improved MA for 18 and 22 units, respectively, compared to poor SES. Alcohol consumption reduced MA for 11 units. Conclusion: This study proved the positive relationship of self-efficacy in adherence to ART in HIV patients. The insights offered by this research can help develop a systematic and effective intervention to promote MA in HIV patients. SES and alcohol consumption significantly affect MA.

Background Deep learning (DL)-accelerated MRI can substantially reduce examination times. However, studies prospectively evaluating the diagnostic performance of DL-accelerated MRI reconstructions in acute suspected stroke are lacking. Purpose To investigate the interchangeability of DL-accelerated MRI with conventional MRI in patients with suspected acute ischemic stroke at 1.5 T. Materials and Methods In this prospective study, 211 participants with suspected acute stroke underwent clinically indicated MRI at 1.5 T between June 2022 and March 2023. For each participant, conventional MRI (including T1-weighted, T2-weighted, T2*-weighted, T2 fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery, and diffusion-weighted imaging; 14 minutes 18 seconds) and DL-accelerated MRI (same sequences; 3 minutes 4 seconds) were performed. The primary end point was the interchangeability between conventional and DL-accelerated MRI for acute ischemic infarction detection. Secondary end points were interchangeability regarding the affected vascular territory and clinically relevant secondary findings (eg, microbleeds, neoplasm). Three readers evaluated the overall occurrence of acute ischemic stroke, affected vascular territory, clinically relevant secondary findings, overall image quality, and diagnostic confidence. For acute ischemic lesions, size and signal intensities were assessed. The margin for interchangeability was chosen as 5%. For interrater agreement analysis and interrater reliability analysis, multirater Fleiss κ and the intraclass correlation coefficient, respectively, was determined. Results The study sample consisted of 211 participants (mean age, 65 years ± 16 [SD]); 123 male and 88 female). Acute ischemic stroke was confirmed in 79 participants. Interchangeability was demonstrated for all primary and secondary end points. No individual equivalence indexes (IEIs) exceeded the interchangeability margin of 5% (IEI, -0.002 [90% CI: -0.007, 0.004]). Almost perfect interrater agreement was observed (P > .91). DL-accelerated MRI provided higher overall image quality (P < .001) and diagnostic confidence (P < .001). The signal properties of acute ischemic infarctions were similar in both techniques and demonstrated good to excellent interrater reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, ≥0.8). Conclusion Despite being four times faster, DL-accelerated brain MRI was interchangeable with conventional MRI for acute ischemic lesion detection. © RSNA, 2024 Supplemental material is available for this article. BACKGROUND: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Extended Version of the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ-E) into Persian (NMQ-E-P) and evaluate the psychometric properties in a general population with different occupational tasks across nine body regions. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was designed according to the standard guidelines and the COSMIN checklist. The NMQ-E-P was achieved through forward and backward translation methods and consensus to produce the final draft. A Persian-speaking population (n = 571, age 38.24 ± 7.65 years, female = 46.2%) was recruited from industries and office workers with three occupational task inclusion criteria: assembly, office, and lifting. Psychometric properties included validity for face (from confirmed clarity, simplicity, and readability), content (via the content validity index); and construct (through known group validity); additionally, the properties of internal consistency (Cronbach's α); and test-retest reliability (Kappa coefficient of agreement) were considered. RESULTS: No significant issues during the translation process were found. The NMQ-E-P showed adequate internal consistency for all regions (α ≥ 0.87). The test-retest reliability was examined with Kappa agreement correlation coefficient and all items, except ankle regions, showed very good agreements (Kappa coefficient = 0.87-1.0). Excellent ICC values were obtained for quantitative variables (ICC > 0.88) and good construct validity was revealed (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The Persian version of the NMQ-E has very good validity and reliability and can be used by researchers and professionals to evaluate the prevalence of MSDs in nine body regions simultaneously.
