ABSTRACT

As a food contaminant that can be quickly absorbed through the gastrointestinal system, furan has been shown to disrupt the intestinal flora and barrier. Investigation of the intestinal toxicity mechanism of furan is of great significance to health. We previously identified the regulatory impact of salidroside (SAL) against furan-provoked intestinal damage, and the present work further explored whether the alleviating effect of SAL against furan-caused intestinal injury was based on the intestinal flora; three models, normal, pseudo-germ-free, and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), were established, and the changes in intestinal morphology, barrier, and inflammation were observed. Moreover, 16S rDNA sequencing observed the variation of the fecal flora associated with inflammation and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Results obtained from the LC-MS/MS suggested that SAL increased furan-inhibited SCFA levels, activated the mRNA expressions of SCFA receptors (GPR41, GPR43, and GPR109A), and inhibited the furan-activated TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling. Analysis of protein-protein interaction further confirmed the aforementioned effects of SAL, which inhibited furan-induced barrier damage and intestinal inflammation.

ABSTRACT

A new polysaccharide fraction (ATP) was obtained from Armillariella tabescens mycelium. Structural analysis suggested that the backbone of ATP was →4)-α-D-Glcp(1 → 2)-α-D-Galp(1 → 2)-α-D-Glcp(1 → 4)-α-D-Glcp(1→, which branched at O-3 of →2)-α-D-Glcp(1 → and terminated with T-α-D-Glcp or T-α-D-Manp. Besides, ATP significantly alleviated ulcerative colitis (UC) symptoms and inhibited the production of pro-inflammation cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6). Meanwhile, ATP could improve colon tissue damage by elevating the expression of MUC2 and tight junction proteins (ZO-1, occludin and claudin-1) levels and enhance intestinal barrier function through inhibiting the activation of MMP12/MLCK/p-MLC2 signaling pathway. Further studies exhibited that ATP could increase the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria such as f. Muribaculacese, g. Muribaculaceae, and g. Alistips, and decrease the relative abundance of g. Desulfovibrio, g. Colidextribacter, g. Ruminococcaceae and g.Oscillibacter, and regulate the level of short-chain fatty acids. Importantly, FMT intervention with ATP-derived microbiome certified that gut microbiota was involved in the protective effects of ATP on UC. The results indicated that ATP was potential to be further developed into promising therapeutic agent for UC.

BACKGROUND: The gut microbiota is believed to influence neurodevelopment through the gut-brain axis, but prior studies have shown inconsistent results regarding early childhood antibiotic exposure and subsequent risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hypothesis that exposure to antibacterial agents in the first 2 years of life increases the risk of ASD and/or ADHD. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study using 2003-2019 data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. Livebirths born between 2004 and 2016 were identified and separated into singleton, full sibling, and exposure-discordant sibling pair cohorts. The exposure group included children who filled at least one prescription for antibacterial agents between 0 and 2 years old in outpatient settings. The outcome, ASD and/or ADHD, was defined by at least one inpatient or outpatient diagnosis. The maximum follow-up age was 15 years in this study. Potential neonatal, maternal and paternal confounders were adjusted for. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate the relative event risk. RESULTS: The final sample contained 946,581 children in the singleton cohort, 1,142,693 children in the full sibling cohort, and 352,612 children in the exposure-discordant sibling pair cohort. Antibiotic exposure marginally increased the risk of ASD and/or ADHD in the singleton cohort (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.06, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.04-1.07) and in the full sibling cohort (aHR: 1.03, 95% CI: 1.01-1.04). A slight decrease in the risk of ASD and/or ADHD was observed in the exposure-discordant sibling pair cohort (aHR: 0.92, 95% CI: 0.90-0.94). CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that early life antibiotic exposure has minimal impact on the risk of ASD and/or ADHD. Given that the estimated effects are marginal and close to null, concerns about ASD and/or ADHD risk increase should not postpone or deter timely and reasonable antibiotic use.

Gut microbiota and metabolites are considered key factors in the pathogenesis of perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND), and the brain-gut axis may be a promising target for PND treatment. Electroacupuncture has been shown to improve a wide range of neurological disorders and to restore function to the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, we hypothesized whether electroacupuncture could remodel gut microbiota and neuroinflammation induced by anesthesia/surgery. First, we observed electroacupuncture at acupoints GV20, LI4 and PC6 significantly improved memory in behavioral tests. Next, we found electroacupuncture decreased the levels of inflammatory factors (NSE, S-100ß, IL-6, etc.) in the hippocampus, indicating that nerve inflammation was blocked by electroacupuncture. Furthermore, via 16S rRNA sequence analysis and LC-MS analysis, the gut microbiota and its metabolites were appropriately restored after electroacupuncture treatment. Additionally, we further confirmed the restorative effect of electroacupuncture on PND by fecal transplantation. In conclusion, the role of electroacupuncture in improving cognitive function and protecting neurons may be related to the modulation of gut microbiota and their metabolite dysregulation, thereby inhibiting neuroinflammation in PND mice.

ABSTRACT

Background: Previous observational studies have indicated a potential association between the gut microbiota and multiple myeloma (MM). However, the relationship between the gut microbiota and MM remains unclear. This study aimed to ascertain the existence of a causal link between the gut microbiota and MM. Methods: To investigate the potential causal relationship between gut microbiota and MM, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted. Exposure data was obtained from the MiBioGen consortium, which provided genetic variants associated with 211 bacterial traits. MM outcome data was obtained from the FinnGen consortium. The selection of Single nucleotide polymorphisms estimates was performed through meta-analysis using inverse-variance weighting, and sensitivity analyses were conducted using weighted median, MR Egger, Simple mode, and MR-PRESSO. Results: The results of the study demonstrated a significant positive correlation between the genus Eubacterium ruminantium group and the risk of MM (OR 1.71, 95% CI 1.21 to 2.39). Conversely, the genus: Dorea (OR 0.46, 95% CI 0.24 to 0.86), Coprococcus1 (OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.22 to 1.00), RuminococcaceaeUCG014 (OR 0.57, 95% CI 0.33 to 0.99), Eubacterium rectale group (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.18 to 0.77), and order: Victivallales (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.41-0.94), class: Lentisphaeria (OR 0.62, 95% CI 0.41 to 0.94), exhibited a negative association with MM. The inverse variance weighting analysis provided additional support for these findings. Conclusion: This study represents an inaugural exploration of MR to investigate the connections between gut microbiota and MM, thereby suggesting potential significance for the prevention and treatment of MM.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The drawbacks of using antibiotics as feed additives for blue foxes have gradually become apparent; moreover, thymol has wide-spectrum antimicrobial activity and has the potential to replace antibiotics in various animals. However, there are few reports on the effects of thymol on blue foxes. Methods: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of thymol on the growth performance, apparent nutrient digestibility, serum biochemical indicators, intestinal morphology, and gut microbiota of blue foxes. Twenty-four male blue foxes (120 ± 5 d) of similar weight (6.05 ± 0.16 kg) were randomly divided into 4 groups. 0, 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg thymol were added to the basal diets of groups C, L, M, and H, respectively. Results: Compared with those in the C group, the addition of 100 mg/kg thymol to the diet significantly increased organic matter (OM) digestibility, crude protein (CP) digestibility, immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgM, the VH of the duodenum, the CD of the jejunum, the VH of the ileum, and the VH/CD of the ileum (P < 0.05) and strongly significantly increased IgG (P < 0.01). The addition of 200 mg/kg thymol to the diet increased the VH/CD of the duodenum (P < 0.05). The addition of 300 mg/kg thymol to the diet significantly increased the VH and CD of the jejunum (P < 0.05). The addition of 200 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg thymol to the diets increased the final weight (FW) (P < 0.05). Adding 100 mg/kg thymol significantly increased the levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4) and catalase (CAT) compared with those in the other groups (P < 0.05). 16S rRNA gene detection revealed that thymol can change the abundances of Bifidobacterium, Fusobacterium, Allobaculum, Streptococcus, Megasphaera, and Lactobacillus in the gut. Conclusion: The addition of thymol to diets can increase the abundance of Bifidobacterium, Fusobacterium, and Allobaculum, which may contribute to improving the growth performance of blue foxes.

As a chemotherapy agent, cisplatin (DDP) is often associated with drug resistance and gastrointestinal toxicity, factors that severely limit therapeutic efficacy in patients with ovarian cancer (OC). Naringin has been shown to increase sensitivity to cisplatin, but whether the intestinal microbiota is associated with this effect has not been reported so far. In this study, we applied a humanized mouse model for the first time to evaluate the reversal of cisplatin resistance by naringin, as well as naringin combined with the microbiota in ovarian cancer. The results showed that naringin combined with Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis NCU-01 had an inhibitory effect on the tumor, significantly reducing tumor size (p<0.05), as well as the concentrations of serum tumor markers CA125 and HE4, increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and Bacteroides, inhibit Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)-induced intestinal inflammation and increase the expression of intestinal permeability-associated proteins ZO-1 (p<0.001) and occludin (p<0.01). In conclusion, the above data demonstrate how naringin combined with Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis NCU-01 reverses cisplatin resistance in ovarian cancer by modulating the intestinal microbiota, inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and modulating the p38MAPK signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The gut microbiota and the microbiota-gut-brain axis have gained considerable attention in recent years, emerging as key players in the mechanisms that mediate the occurrence and progression of many central nervous system-related diseases, including epilepsy. In clinical practice, one of the side effects of quinolone antibiotics is a lower seizure threshold or aggravation. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Methods: We aimed to unravel the intrinsic mechanisms through 16S rRNA sequencing and serum untargeted metabolomic analysis to shed light on the effects of gut microbiota in ciprofloxacin-induced seizure susceptibility and lithium pilocarpine-induced epilepsy rat models. Results: We observed that ciprofloxacin treatment increased seizure susceptibility and caused gut dysbiosis. We also found similar changes in the gut microbiota of rats with lithium pilocarpine-induced epilepsy. Notably, the levels of Akkermansia and Bacteroides significantly increased in both the ciprofloxacin-induced seizure susceptibility and lithium pilocarpine-induced epilepsy rat models. However, Marvinbryantia, Oscillibacter, and Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group showed a coincidental reduction. Additionally, the serum untargeted metabolomic analysis revealed decreased levels of indole-3-propionic acid, a product of tryptophan-indole metabolism, after ciprofloxacin treatment, similar to those in the plasma of lithium pilocarpine-induced epilepsy in rats. Importantly, alterations in the gut microbiota, seizure susceptibility, and indole-3-propionic acid levels can be restored by fecal microbiota transplantation. Conclusion: In summary, our findings provide evidence that ciprofloxacin-induced seizure susceptibility is partially mediated by the gut microbiota and tryptophan-indole metabolism. These associations may play a role in epileptogenesis, and impacting the development progression and treatment outcomes of epilepsy.

ABSTRACT

Heat stroke (HS) is a critical condition with extremely high mortality. Heat acclimation (HA) is widely recognized as the best measure to prevent and protect against HS. Preventive administration of oral rehydration salts III (ORSIII) and probiotics have been reported to sustain intestinal function in cases of HS. This study established a rat model of HA that was treated with probiotics-based ORS (ORSP) during consecutive 21-day HA training. The results showed that HA with ORSP could attenuate HS-induced hyperthermia by regulating thermoregulatory response. We also found that HA with ORSP could significantly alleviate HS-induced multiple organ injuries. The expression levels of a series of heat-shock proteins (HSPs), including HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, and HSP40, were significantly up-regulated from the HA training. The increases in intestinal fatty acid binding protein (I-FABP) and D-Lactate typically seen during HS were decreased through HA. The representative TJ proteins including ZO-1, E-cadherin, and JAM-1 were found to be significantly down-regulated by HS, but sustained following HA. The ultrastructure of TJ was examined by TEM, which confirmed its protective effect on the intestinal barrier protection following HA. We also demonstrated that HA raised the intestinal levels of beneficial bacteria Lactobacillus and lowered those of the harmful bacteria Streptococcus through 16S rRNA gene sequencing. These findings suggest that HA with ORSP was proven to improve intestinal thermotolerance and the levels of protective gut microbiota against HS.

Introduction: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. Due to its complex pathogenesis, new therapeutic agents are urgently needed. Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq., commonly known as kidney tea, is widely used in DN treatment in China. However, the mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. Methods: We used db/db mice as the DN model and evaluated the efficacy of kidney tea in DN treatment by measuring fasting blood glucose (FBG), serum inflammatory cytokines, renal injury indicators and histopathological changes. Furthermore, 16S rDNA gene sequencing, untargeted serum metabolomics, electron microscope, ELISA, qRT-PCR, and Western blotting were performed to explore the mechanisms by which kidney tea exerted therapeutic effects. Results: Twelve polyphenols were identified from kidney tea, and its extract ameliorated FBG, inflammation and renal injury in DN mice. Moreover, kidney tea reshaped the gut microbiota, reduced the abundance of Muribaculaceae, Lachnoclostridium, Prevotellaceae_UCG-001, Corynebacterium and Akkermansia, and enriched the abundance of Alloprevotella, Blautia and Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group. Kidney tea altered the levels of serum metabolites in pathways such as ferroptosis, arginine biosynthesis and mTOR signaling pathway. Importantly, kidney tea improved mitochondrial damage, increased SOD activity, and decreased the levels of MDA and 4-HNE in the renal tissues of DN mice. Meanwhile, this functional tea upregulated GPX4 and FTH1 expression and downregulated ACSL4 and NCOA4 expression, indicating that it could inhibit ferroptosis in the kidneys. Conclusion: Our findings imply that kidney tea can attenuate DN development by modulating gut microbiota and ferroptosis, which presents a novel scientific rationale for the clinical application of kidney tea.

Introduction: Dietary advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs), which are abundant in heat-processed foods, could induce lipid metabolism disorders. However, limited studies have examined the relationship between maternal ALEs diet and offspring health. Methods: To investigate the transgenerational effects of ALEs, a cross-generation mouse model was developed. The C57BL/6J mice were fed with dietary ALEs during preconception, pregnancy and lactation. Then, the changes of glycolipid metabolism and gut microbiota of the offspring mice were analyzed. Results: Maternal ALEs diet not only affected the metabolic homeostasis of dams, but also induced hepatic glycolipid accumulation, abnormal liver function, and disturbance of metabolism parameters in offspring. Furthermore, maternal ALEs diet significantly upregulated the expression of TLR4, TRIF and TNF-α proteins through the AMPK/mTOR/PPARα signaling pathway, leading to dysfunctional glycolipid metabolism in offspring. In addition, 16S rRNA analysis showed that maternal ALEs diet was capable of altered microbiota composition of offspring, and increased the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Discussion: This study has for the first time demonstrated the transgenerational effects of maternal ALEs diet on the glycolipid metabolism and gut microbiota in offspring mice, and may help to better understand the adverse effects of dietary ALEs.

BACKGROUND: Gut microbiota and obesity are deeply interconnected. However, the causality in the relationship between these factors remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the genetic relationship between gut microbiota and childhood obesity. METHODS: Genetic summary statistics for the gut microbiota were obtained from the MiBioGen consortium. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data for childhood obesity were obtained from North American, Australian, and European collaborative genome-wide meta-analyses. Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were performed using the inverse variance weighting method. 16 children with obesity and 16 without obesity were included for clinical observation, and their weight, body mass index, blood lipid levels, and gut microbiology were assessed. Paired t-test was the primary method of data analysis, and statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS: MR identified 16 causal relationships between the gut microbiome and childhood obesity. In the case-control study, we found that five gut microorganisms differed between children with and without obesity, whereas three gut microorganisms changed after weight loss in children with obesity. Emerging evidence indicates that gut microbial dysbiosis is associated with the development of antipsychotic-induced weight gain in schizophrenia (SZ). However, the exact taxonomic composition and functionality that constitute the "obesogenic" microbial profile remain elusive. Our retrospective survey identified two groups of the SZ population separated by BMI, with 1/3 of patients developing overweight/obesity after chronic antipsychotic treatment. Based on multi-omics analysis, we observed altered gut microbiota in SZ patients with overweight/obesity, characterized by a reduction in several beneficial bacteria genera, including Bacteroides, Parabacteroides, Akkermansia, and Clostridium. This microbial dysbiosis was accompanied by disrupted energy expenditure and nutritional metabolism, worsened metabolic indices, and reduced levels of beneficial metabolites, e.g. indole-3-carboxylic acid and propionic acid. Moreover, leveraging data from first-episode drug-naïve schizophrenia (FSZ) patients at one-month and one-year follow-up, both artificial neural network and random forest classifier-based prediction models demonstrated a strong ability of microbial profiles to predict antipsychotic-induced weight gain. Importantly, FSZ patients with higher relative abundance of Parabacteria distasonis were less susceptible to antipsychotic-induced weight gain. Thus, gut microbiota could serve as a noninvasive approach to predict antipsychotic-induced weight gain, guiding clinical antipsychotics administration and developing novel therapeutic strategies for weight management in SZ.

Turmeric, derived from Curcuma longa, and Lactobacillus paracasei, a lactic acid bacteria, have been studied for their potential antiobesity effects. To date, the antiobesity effects of turmeric fermented with L. paracasei have not been sufficiently investigated. This study was conducted via oral administration of 5% L. paracasei-fermented (FT) and unfermented turmeric (UT) in diet over 16 weeks using high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese C57BL/6J mice. Results showed that the curcuminoid content of turmeric decreased following fermentation. Furthermore, FT significantly suppressed weight gain and liver and visceral adipose tissue weight and reduced plasma metabolic parameters in both the UT and FT experimental groups. The effects of FT were more noticeable than those of the unfermented form. Moreover, FT downregulated the expression of adipogenesis, lipogenesis, and inflammatory-related protein, but upregulated liver ß-oxidation protein SIRT 1, PPARα, and PGC-1α in perigonadal adipose tissue. Additionally, FT ameliorated insulin resistance by activating insulin receptor pathway protein expressions in visceral adipose tissues. FT also modulated gut microbiota composition, particularly in two beneficial bacteria, Akkermansia muciniphila and Desulfovibrio, as well as two short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria: Muribaculum intestinale and Deltaproteobacteria. Our findings indicate that the modulation effect of FT may be an important pathway for its antiobesity mechanisms.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) remains a global public health problem with high incidence, high mortality rates, expensive medical costs, and limited treatment options. AKI can further progress to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and eventually end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Previous studies have shown that trauma, adverse drug reactions, surgery, and other factors are closely associated with AKI. With further in-depth exploration, the role of gut microbiota in AKI is gradually revealed. After AKI occurs, there are changes in the composition of gut microbiota, leading to disruption of the intestinal barrier, intestinal immune response, and bacterial translocation. Meanwhile, metabolites of gut microbiota can exacerbate the progression of AKI. Therefore, elucidating the specific mechanisms by which gut microbiota is involved in the occurrence and development of AKI can provide new insights from the perspective of intestinal microbiota for the prevention and treatment of AKI.

ABSTRACT

Ischemic stroke (IS) is a severe cerebrovascular disease that seriously endangers human health. Gut microbiota plays a key role as an intermediate mediator in bidirectional regulation between the brain and the intestine. In recent years, trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) as a gut microbiota metabolite has received widespread attention in cardiovascular diseases. Elevated levels of TMAO may increase the risk of IS by affecting IS risk factors such as atherosclerosis, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. TMAO exacerbates neurological damage in IS patients, increases the risk of IS recurrence, and is an independent predictor of post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) in patients. Current research suggests that the mechanisms of TMAO action include endothelial dysfunction, promoting of foam cell formation, influence on cholesterol metabolism, and enhancement of platelet reactivity. Lowering plasma TMAO levels through the rational use of traditional Chinese medicine, dietary management, vitamins, and probiotics can prevent and treat IS.

ABSTRACT

Chemotherapy-induced mucositis (CIM) is the typical side effect of chemotherapy. This study investigates the potential of alginate oligosaccharide (AOS) in ameliorating CIM induced by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in a murine model and its underlying mechanisms. AOS effectively mitigated body weight loss and histopathological damage, modulated inflammatory cytokines and attenuated the oxidative stress. AOS restored intestinal barrier integrity through enhancing expression of tight junction proteins via MLCK signaling pathway. AOS alleviated intestinal mucosal damage by inhibiting TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, downregulating the pro-apoptotic protein Bax and upregulating the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. Moreover, AOS significantly enriched intestinal Akkermansiaceae and increased the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), most notably butyrate and isovalerate. Pre-treatment with butyrate and isovalerate also alleviated 5-FU-induced CIM. In conclusion, AOS effectively mitigated CIM through strenghthening intestinal barrier, attenuating inflammation, and modulating gut microbiota and intestianl levels of butyrate and isovalerate. These finding indicate that AOS could be potentially utilized as a supplemental strategy for prevention or mitigation of CIM.

ABSTRACT

The fecal microbiota of two healthy adults was cultivated in a medium containing commercial fructooligosaccharides [FOS; 1-kestose (GF2), nystose (GF3), and 1F-fructofuranosylnystose (GF4)]. Initially, the proportions of lactobacilli in the two feces samples were only 0.42% and 0.17%; however, they significantly increased to 7.2% and 4.8%, respectively, after cultivation on FOS. Most FOS-utilizing isolates could utilize only GF2; however, Lacticaseibacillus paracasei strain Lp02 could fully consume GF3 and GF4 too. The FOS operon (fosRABCDXE) was present in Lc. paracasei Lp02 and another Lc. paracasei strain, KCTC 3510T, but fosE was only partially present in the non-FOS-degrading strain KCTC 3510T. In addition, the top six upregulated genes in the presence of FOS were fosABCDXE, particularly fosE. FosE is a ß-fructosidase that hydrolyzes both sucrose and all three FOS. Finally, a genome-based analysis suggested that fosE is mainly observed in Lc. paracasei, and only 13.5% (61/452) of their reported genomes were confirmed to include it. In conclusion, FosE allows the utilization of FOS, including GF3 and GF4 as well as GF2, by some Lc. paracasei strains, suggesting that this species plays a pivotal role in FOS utilization in the human gut.

ABSTRACT

Indole-3-lactic acid (ILA) has exhibited antimicrobial properties. However, its role in inhibiting Helicobacter pylori infection remains elusive. This study investigated the inhibitory effect of ILA produced by Lacticaseibacillus paracasei on H. pylori, which was further confirmed by cell and animal experiments. 5 mg/mL ILA was sufficient to directly inhibit the growth of H. pylori in vitro, with a urease inhibitory activity reaching 60.94 ± 1.03%, and the cell morphology and structure were destroyed. ILA inhibited 56.5% adhesion of H. pylori to GES-1 and significantly reduced the number of apoptotic cells. Furthermore, ILA suppresses H. pylori colonization by approximately 38% to 63%, reduced inflammation and oxidative stress in H. pylori-infected mice, and enhanced the enrichment and variety of gut microbiota, notably fostering the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains. The results support that ILA derived from Lactobacillus can be applicated as a novel prebiotic in anti-H. pylori functional foods.
