(1) Background: Since the advent of zidovudine in 1987, antiretroviral therapy has undergone significant evolution, marked by the introduction of 34 antiretroviral drugs and 24 fixed-dose combinations. Despite these advances, hepatotoxicity remains a formidable challenge, influencing morbidity, mortality, and treatment adherence in HIV-infected patients. This study aims to compare the hepatotoxic effects of latest-generation antiretroviral medications with those of older-generation therapies, assessing their long-term impact on liver health in HIV patients. (2) Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data from 304 HIV patients treated with either latest-generation or older-generation antiretroviral drugs over four years. Patients were monitored for hepatotoxicity through liver function tests at diagnosis, six months, and one-year post-treatment initiation. (3) Results: Initial and six-month liver function tests showed no significant differences between the two groups. However, at one-year post-treatment, patients on latest-generation antiretrovirals exhibited significant improvements in ALT, AST, and ALP levels, suggesting a better safety profile regarding hepatotoxicity. Additionally, a significantly lower incidence of splenomegaly was observed in patients treated with newer medications. (4) Conclusions: The findings suggest that the latest-generation antiretroviral medications may offer a safer profile in terms of hepatotoxicity compared to older therapies, with potential benefits for long-term liver health. This study underscores the importance of continuous monitoring and further research to optimize ART strategies, ensuring improved patient outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with HIV.

Osteomyelitis of the tibia is a challenging condition, particularly when it occurs as a result of trauma. This abstract presents a case study detailing the successful staged treatment of posttraumatic tibial osteomyelitis utilizing a unique combination of rib graft and serratus anterior muscle. This medical abstract presents a case study of a 52-year-old male with a history of heavy smoking and obliterating arteriopathy of the lower limbs. The patient sustained a traumatic open fracture classified as Type IIIA Gustilo Anderson involving one-third of the distal right tibia diaphysis, with an associated right fibular malleolus fracture. The treatment approach comprised multiple stages, focusing on wound management, infection control, and limb salvage. The initial stage involved the application of an external fixation device in the emergency setting. Seven days later, an osteosynthesis procedure was performed using a Kuntscher nail and wire cerclage. However, complications emerged, with wound dehiscence and purulent secretion observed at 14 days postsurgery. Subsequently, secondary suturing was carried out at the 20-day mark. The second stage of the treatment involved implant removal, wide excisional debridement, pulse lavage, osteoclasia, and relaxation of the peroneal malleolus. A monoplane external fixation system was applied. As a part of postoperative care, aspiration therapy with a vacuum pump was administered, along with a 10-day course of vancomycin according to the antibiogram. Positive clinical signs of healing were noted, and sterile cultures confirmed the results. The third stage of the intervention focused on grafting the osteo-muscular defect, utilizing autografts from the rib and serratus anterior muscle. The external fixator was maintained in place during this phase. In the fourth and final stage, after an 8-week integration period of the musculocutaneous flap, the external fixator was removed, and internal fixation was accomplished with a blocked Less Invasive Stabilization System (LISS) plate inserted using the Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique. This case underscores the significance of a multistage approach in managing complex limb injuries, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention, infection control, and innovative techniques for limb salvage and restoration of function.

BACKGROUND: This comprehensive review delves into the nuanced domain of arterial axis lesions associated with proximal humeral fractures, elucidating the intricate interplay between fracture patterns and vascular compromise. Proximal humeral fractures, a common orthopedic occurrence, often present challenges beyond the skeletal realm, necessitating a profound understanding of the vascular implications. METHODS: The study synthesizes the existing literature, presenting a collective analysis of documented cases and their respective clinical outcomes. The spectrum of arterial axis lesions, from subtle vascular compromise to overt ischemic events, is systematically examined, highlighting the varied clinical manifestations encountered in proximal humeral fractures. Diagnostic modalities, including advanced imaging techniques such as angiography and Doppler ultrasound, are scrutinized for their efficacy in identifying arterial axis lesions promptly. The review emphasizes the critical role of early and accurate diagnosis in mitigating the potential sequelae associated with vascular compromise, thereby underscoring the importance of a vigilant clinical approach. RESULTS: Therapeutic strategies, ranging from conservative management to surgical interventions, are critically evaluated in the context of existing evidence. The evolving landscape of endovascular interventions and their applicability in addressing arterial axis lesions specific to proximal humeral fractures is explored, providing valuable insights for clinicians navigating the therapeutic decision-making process. The management of tibial pilon fractures is challenging and often leads to complications and limitations in ankle function. The study aims to investigate myotonometric parameters and muscle strength of ankle muscles, as well as gait pattern and balance among patients following surgical treatment of pilon fractures. The randomized controlled study will analyze the differences between the patients who will follow a 3-month physical exercise program and will wear customized foot orthoses (i.e., customized orthotic arch support insoles) versus patients who will attend only the physical exercise program. For each group, at least 21 patients will be required. The assessment involves four different testing procedures: myotonometry (anterior tibialis, medial and lateral gastrocnemius, and longus peroneus assessed using MyotonPRO), muscle strength testing (ankle dorsiflexors, plantar flexors, and peroneal muscles assessed using MicroFET2 dynamometer), analysis of gait parameters (using Scheinworks treadmill), and double-leg and single-leg balance tests (using K-Force plate). After 3 months, the assessments will record which of the two treatments (physical exercise program with or without wearing customized foot orthoses) has better outcomes in regaining ankle muscle properties and tone, as well as the restoration of gait and balance.

Background: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of the single-incision technique with a distal biceps repair system versus the modified double-incision technique, specifically the Morrey-modified approach, Krackow sutures, and drill holes, for the management of acute and chronic distal biceps tendon rupture. The study was conducted at the Orthopedic-Traumatology Clinic II of SCJUPBT Timisoara, Romania, between 2014 and 2022. Methods: A total of sixty-nine patients with acute distal biceps tendon rupture and five patients with chronic distal tendon rupture were included in the study. Forty-eight cases underwent the single-incision technique with the distal biceps repair system, while twenty-four patients were treated with the modified double-incision technique. Results: Both surgical techniques demonstrated favorable outcomes in terms of successful tendon repair and functional restoration. However, the single-incision technique exhibited slightly superior results in terms of patient satisfaction, range of motion, and postoperative rehabilitation. The modified double-incision technique showed comparable outcomes but had a higher incidence of complications, particularly related to wound healing. Conclusion: The single-incision technique with the distal biceps repair system and the modified double-incision technique, including the Morrey-modified approach, Krackow sutures, and drill holes, are effective surgical approaches for the management of distal biceps tendon rupture. The single-incision technique yielded better functional outcomes and patient satisfaction, while the modified double-incision technique had a higher risk of complications. Further research with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up periods is necessary to validate these findings and determine the most appropriate surgical approach for distal biceps tendon rupture.

Background and Objectives: The relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality is well-established. Ventricular arrhythmias (VA) are frequently diagnosed in patients with T2DM, especially in those with associated coronary syndrome, non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (NIDCM), and heart failure (HF). In these patients, VA and sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) are considered responsible for more than 50% of CV deaths. Newly developed glucose-lowering agents (GLA) seem not only to ameliorate CV morbidity and mortality, but also to reduce the risk of VA and SCA. Materials and Methods: We researched the medical literature on Pub-Med, Clarivate, and Google Scholar for original articles published in the last five years that debated the possible effects of various GLA on ventricular arrhythmias. Results: We identified nineteen original articles, nine of them debating the antiarrhythmic effects of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i); Conclusions: The results concerning the impact of various GLA on VA/SCA were heterogeneous depending on the pharmacological class studied, with some of them having neutral, positive, or negative effects. Although it appears that SGLT2i reduces the prevalence of atrial fibrillation and SCA, their effect on VA is not conclusive.

Background: Maternal cardiovascular risk and its implications can have significant repercussions for both the mother and the child. This study compares the lipid profiles of two distinct groups of pregnant women, those with and without cardiovascular risk, to shed light on its effects on maternal and outcomes for newborns. Materials and Methods: This study enrolled 86 pregnant women, dividing them into two groups: Group 1 (n = 46, healthy pregnancies) and Group 2 (n = 40, pregnancies with cardiovascular risk factors). The data collected included maternal demographics, smoking history, pre-existing pathologies, and a range of laboratory measures. Neonatal outcomes were also recorded. Results: Group 2 showed a significant increase in the percentage of newborns with abnormal APGAR scores (p-value < 0.0001), congenital abnormalities (p-value < 0.0001), severe prematurity (p-value < 0.0001), and neonatal mortality rates (p-value < 0.0001), as well as differences in birth weight (p-value = 0.0392) and therapy usage (surfactant: p-value < 0.001, steroids p-value = 0.004, and antibiotics p-value < 0.001). Regarding laboratory measures, Group 2 exhibited significantly elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C (p-value < 0.0001), ApoB (p-value < 0.0001), Lp(A) (p-value = 0.0486), triglycerides (p-value < 0.0001), and hs-CRP (p-value = 0.0300). Discussion: These results underscore the elevated risk associated with pregnancies complicated by cardiovascular risk factors. Group 2 demonstrated a more concerning clinical profile, with a higher prevalence of detrimental neonatal outcomes and different lipid and inflammatory profiles, signifying a potential pathophysiological link. Conclusions: The differential lipid profiles and adverse neonatal outcomes in pregnancies with cardiovascular risks highlight the urgency of effective risk stratification and management strategies in this population.

Background: This research delves into the association between altered lipid profiles and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), shedding light on cardiovascular implications in maternal health. Methods: A cohort of 83 pregnant women was studied, with 48.19% diagnosed with HDP. This investigation primarily focused on Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) as indicators of cardiovascular health. A comparative examination was conducted to determine discrepancies in the ApoB and Lp(a) levels between standard pregnancies and those presenting with HDP. Results: Significant elevations in ApoB (p value = 0.0486) and Lp(a) (p value < 0.0001) levels were observed in pregnant women with HDP compared to their counterparts with typical pregnancies. The pronounced link between heightened ApoB and Lp(a) concentrations and HDP persisted, even considering pregnancy's distinct physiological conditions. Conclusions: Our research accentuates the crucial role of early detection and specialized handling of cardiovascular risks in expectant mothers, especially those predisposed to HDP. The study indicates ApoB and Lp(a)'s potential as reliable markers for gauging cardiovascular threats during gestation. Furthermore, our findings suggest an integrative care approach and guidance for pregnant women, aspiring to enhance cardiovascular health in the postpartum phase.

(1) Background: Osteochondromas are the most common benign bone tumors, primarily found in long bones, while scapular osteochondromas are rare and account for less than 1% of all osteochondromas. (2) Methods: We present a case of a young female patient with a unique presentation of scapular osteochondroma. The patient exhibited superomedial scapula angle osteochondroma with winging, a rare manifestation of scapular osteochondroma. The patient had a slow-growing mass on the left scapula for several years. Physical examination revealed a visible deformity with significant winging of the scapula. Imaging studies demonstrated a large osteochondroma arising from the superomedial angle of the left scapula, with a bony stalk. (3) Results: Surgical excision was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of osteochondroma. Following the surgery, the patient experienced a significant improvement in scapular winging. A comprehensive literature review revealed only a limited number of reported cases of scapular osteochondroma with winging, underscoring the significance of this case report as a valuable addition to the existing literature. The diagnosis of scapular osteochondroma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with a scapular mass, particularly when associated with winging. Surgical excision is the recommended treatment, and complete excision is crucial to prevent recurrence. (4) Conclusions: This case report highlights a rare presentation of scapular osteochondroma with winging and emphasizes the importance of considering this diagnosis in patients with scapular masses accompanied by winging. The successful surgical intervention in our case resulted in significant improvement. Clinicians should be aware of this entity and consider prompt surgical intervention for complete excision, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and preventing recurrence. Further research and additional case reports are necessary to enhance our understanding of scapular osteochondroma and its varied clinical presentations. Furthermore, comprehensive studies involving larger patient cohorts are necessary to explore the full spectrum of clinical presentations of scapular osteochondromas. By documenting and analyzing a wider range of cases, including variations in tumor location, size, and associated symptoms, researchers can identify patterns and establish more accurate diagnostic criteria. This will facilitate early detection and appropriate management of scapular osteochondromas, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Pregnancy imposes unique physiological changes on a woman's cardiovascular system. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cohort of 68 participants, comprising 30 pregnant women with cardiovascular risk and 38 without cardiovascular risk, was recruited for this study. These participants were prospectively followed during their pregnancies from 2020 to 2022 at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the "Pius Brînzeu" Emergency County Clinical Hospital in Timisoara, Romania. All women included in this study underwent cesarean section deliveries at the same medical facility. Data regarding the gestational weeks at delivery, birth weight, and Apgar scores assessed by neonatologists were collected for each participant. Statistical analyses were performed to compare the neonatal effects between the two groups. RESULTS: The results of this study revealed significant differences between the groups in terms of Apgar scores (p = 0.0055), gestational weeks (p = 0.0471), and baby birth weight (p = 0.0392). CONCLUSION: The findings underscore the importance of considering maternal cardiovascular health as a potential determinant of neonatal outcomes. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and develop strategies for optimizing neonatal outcomes in high-risk pregnancies.

Background and Objectives: Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences located at the end of chromosomes that play a crucial role in maintaining chromosomal stability. Shortening of telomeres has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the length of telomeres in pregnant women with cardiovascular risk is shorter compared to those without cardiovascular risk. Materials and Methods: A total of 68 participants were enrolled, including 30 pregnant women with cardiovascular risk and 38 without cardiovascular risk, who were followed-up during their pregnancy between 2020 and 2022 at the Obstetrical and Gynecology Department of the "Pius Brînzeu" Emergency County Clinical Hospital in Timisoara, Romania. All included women underwent delivery via cesarean section at the same medical institution. The telomere length was measured in each participant using quantitative Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: The results showed that the telomere length was negatively correlated with cardiovascular risk in pregnant women, with significantly shorter telomeres observed in the cardiovascular risk group (mean telomere length = 0.3537) compared to the group without cardiovascular risk (mean telomere length = 0.5728) (p = 0.0458). Conclusions: These findings suggest that cardiovascular risk during pregnancy may be associated with accelerated telomere shortening, which could have implications for the long-term health of both the mother and the child. Further research is needed to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying this association and to identify interventions that may mitigate the negative effects of cardiovascular risk on the telomere length during pregnancy.

(1) Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most common procedures used for adult hip reconstruction, employing mainly two types of prostheses: cemented (CHP) and cementless (CLHP). This study aims to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on THA with CHP and CLHP, in terms of the benefit/cost ratio. (2) Methods: This article represents a retrospective analysis of the differences concerning the benefit/cost ratio between THA with the two types of prostheses in 2950 patients admitted for THA in the two orthopedic clinics of our hospital between 1 January 2015-1 March 2020 in comparison with 1005 THA subjects seen between 1 April 2020-31 December 2022. (3) Results: In the first period, THA with CHP was performed in 45.83% of cases, while CLHP was used in 54.16% of patients. During the COVID-19 period, CHP was inserted in 52% of THA patients, while the other 48% had CLHP inserted, with a hospitalization duration reduced by over 50% for both types of implants (p ˂ 0.001). (4) Conclusions: CHP offered good outcomes, with quicker mobilization, and shorter hospitalization duration, compared to CLHP, but optimization of the patients' management can be achieved mainly by reducing the length of hospitalization through an appropriate preoperative patient evaluation through a multidisciplinary approach, an aspect that was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic.

(1) Background: The Patterned Sensory Enhancement (PSE) technique refers to a music-based rehabilitation therapy strategy used in neurological pathologies. (2) Methods: This study aims at developing a music-drill protocol for recovery in elderly patients with neuromuscular degenerative pathologies. Each music drill is based on a number of specific music-composition parameters. The conclusions represent suggestions for further enhancing the PSE technique through collaborations between the rehabilitation team and the musicians involved due to the importance of the music stimuli used as a therapy. (3) Results: The music-composition parameters used in this study relate to the existence of music homogeneity factors such as the key signature and rhythm; the importance of the major scale and the tonal system in general; the obvious music suggestions of movement, repetition or absence of movement; the importance of rhythm; the introduction of musical instruments in order to harmonize the music material as much as possible; the connection between PSE music along with patients' musical taste and the musical recording as a therapy during patient outcare; (4) Conclusions: The therapy efficiency was observed by measurements taken before and after the therapeutic intervention by means of a Takei dynamometer. The present study asserts that for a patient undergoing the PSE technique, the researcher should compose personalized music material adapted to each patient's peculiarities.

BACKGROUND: The battle against HIV has led to the development of antiretroviral therapy (ART), including BIKTARVY®, which combines three potent agents. However, concerns about gastrointestinal side effects during the early phases of treatment have emerged, potentially impacting patient adherence and outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study, conducted over four years in Romania, examined 222 patients initiated on BIKTARVY® therapy. Data were collected from electronic medical records, and stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to ensure data accuracy and relevance. Statistical analysis was performed to assess age-related patterns in gastrointestinal symptoms and their relation with significant weight loss. RESULTS: This study revealed significant differences in the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms between age groups, with older patients experiencing more symptoms. Notably, diarrhea did not exhibit a statistically significant age-related difference. Furthermore, weight loss exceeding 5 kg was more common in older patients. Of the patients who continued BIKTARVY® therapy, 84.9% showed an increase in CD4 cell counts, and most expressed satisfaction with treatment. CONCLUSION: Understanding age-related patterns and gastrointestinal side effects of BIKTARVY® is crucial for optimizing HIV patient care. Future research should aim to corroborate and expand upon these findings, potentially leading to improved therapeutic approaches in the ongoing fight against HIV.

(1) Background: Based on the premise that epilepsy is frequently associated with hypnopathies, in this study we aim to analyze the prevalence of sleep disturbances among patients with epilepsy, with exclusively or predominantly nocturnal seizures, in relation to demographic factors as well as clinical and electroencephalography (EEG) aspects. (2) Methods: 69 patients with nocturnal epilepsy were included in our study. Sleep disturbances were measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, followed by a long-term video-EEG monitoring during sleep. We analyzed the PSQI results in relation to patients' gender and age and determined the correlations between the PSQI scores and the modifications on video-EEG recordings, in comparison to a control group of 25 patients with epilepsy but without nocturnal seizures. (3) Results: We found a statistically significant difference between the PSQI of patients with nocturnal seizures compared to those without nocturnal epileptic manifestations. In the experimental group, the mean PSQI score was 7.36 ± 3.91 versus 5.04 ± 2.56 in controls. In women, the average PSQI score was 8.26, whilst in men it only reached 6.41, highlighting a statistically significant difference between genders (p ˂ 0.01). By examining the relationships between the PSQI scores and certain sleep-related factors, evidenced on the nocturnal video-EEG, we found a statistically significant difference between PSQI values of patients who reached the N2 stage, and those who reached the N3 stage of nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, highlighting that those with a more superficial nocturnal sleep also had higher PSQI scores. There were no statistically significant differences regarding the PSQI scores between patients with or without interictal epileptiform discharges, and also in the few patients with nocturnal seizures where we captured ictal activity. (4) Conclusions: we evidenced in this study a poor quality of sleep in patients with nocturnal epilepsy, mostly in women, independent of age. We observed that sleep disturbances were due to superficial and fragmented sleep with frequent microarousals, not necessarily caused by the electrical epileptiform activity.

Background: The frequent occurrence of thromboembolic events in patients infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome CoV2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus is a well-recognized fact in the medical literature, but less data is available about possible hemorrhagic incidents. Methods: We report the case of a 76-year-old patient who suffered from a mild COVID-19 infection in September 2021 and after four weeks, experienced a completely spontaneous popliteal hematoma followed by deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Therapy with low molecular weight heparins (LMWH) was started, but subsequently, the patient developed a massive sub-pectoral and calf hematoma leading to moderate post-hemorrhagic anemia and acute kidney injury. This patient was treated completely conservatively. Conclusions: Considering the continuous spread of the infection with various, continuously evolving strains of this virus and the extended use of LWMH in clinical practice, such cases were seldom described in the medical literature, but should be considered as a potential cause for hemorrhagic events.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: One important forensic activity is the assessment of aesthetic injuries where expert criteria and analysis are insufficiently outlined due to the subjective elements related to the traumatized victim. Unaesthetic morphological changes may occur due to various circumstances committed under the Penal Code, resulting in permanent unaesthetic morphological scarring. Considering that most of the existing scales for the assessment of aesthetic prejudices refer only to morphometric changes, our aim was to create a modern method for the evaluation of aesthetic damage that also considers its social and psychological consequences. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we developed the Mekereș Psychosocial Internalization Scale (MPIS), which proposes a clear boundary between the presence or absence of aesthetic damage. The traumatized person is evaluated after a minimum of six months (in the case of an average scar, necessary for defining the character of the scar) to assess changes in the physiognomy or even alterations in the victim's aesthetic perception of their own body. Our study was conducted on 103 patients with scars, and the results were compared to 101 controls (subjects without scars). RESULTS: Individuals with scars have a distorted perception (compared to controls) of the support provided by significant people [t (202) = 2.473; p = 0.01]. Hypothetically, they will most likely exhibit a nuanced socio-cognitive and psycho-emotional vulnerability that may be the source of future dysfunctions. The fidelity of the MPIS scale was estimated by employing Cronbach's alpha coefficient, resulting in a value of 0.934 (15 items). The exploratory factorial analysis with Varimax rotation mode sustains a single dominant factor, indicating a good internal consistency. The results of this study provide evidence regarding the psychosocial or psychometric worthiness of MPIS. CONCLUSIONS: MPIS can be used for research and as an instrument to assess aesthetic damage or disfigurement by forensic physicians and lawyers.

Giant cell tumor (GCT) is a locally aggressive tumor but with benignity features, representing approximately 18% of non-malignant bone tumors in European countries, with slight female predominance. Malignancy in GCT is rare, about <2% of cases and is more common at older ages. Is known that usually occurs at the epiphyses of long bones, but extremely rare may have another location, such as the pelvic bone. An atypical location - the posterior iliac bone, found at a 34-year-old male -, is the case report we studied and described. Starting from the patient's complains, like a mass in the left buttock region described as "recently appeared", firm, not-mobile, with no distinctive borders and no tenderness at palpation, and a recent history trauma, multiple investigations have been performed, which have highlighted an osteolytic lesion, close to the sacroiliac joint, only with infiltration of the gluteal, iliac and paravertebral muscles. The treatment of choice was hemipelvectomy, with wide tumoral resection, and selective embolization of the nutrient vessels 24 hours prior to the surgical procedure. At two years postoperative, we found a good functional result and the computed tomography (CT) scan revealed no signs of recurrence.

The purpose of this research was to identify a possible correlation between the morphometric characteristics of fibrocartilaginous tissue in the intervertebral herniated disc fragment and the clinical and imagistic characteristics of patients with back pain. Sixty-two samples were included in this study. Intervertebral herniated disc fragments obtained during surgery (microdiscectomy) were analyzed histologically and morphologically. The analyzed fragment tissues from herniated lumbar discs were from L3-L4, L4-L5 or L5-S1 levels. The average number of chondrons encountered in a visual field was 35 (ranging from 8 to 51). The minimum chondrons surface area - 493.4 pixels² (from 188 to 925 pixels²) and the average peak area of chondrons - 5250.9 pixels² (ranging from 1171 to 11811 pixels²) and the median was 785.4 pixels² (values between 247.5 and 1621 pixels²). With age control, a correlation between the average chondron area and the Pfirrmann classification (r=0.413; p=0.014) was found but the correlation coefficient was small. The results of this study demonstrate that there is a correlation between the area of the chondrons and the clinical and imagistic characteristics. The Japanese Orthopedic Association Back Pain Evaluation Questionnaire (JOABPEQ) correlated with the chondrocyte area in the presence of a lumbar disc herniation with surgical indication. It should be taken into account that the variables considered only correspond to certain patients with degenerative lumbar discopathy.

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a common pediatric malignant mesenchymal tumor, representing half of soft tissue sarcomas and approximately 5% of all cancers. We present the case of an adolescent male patient treated in our Department for a tumoral mass located in the middle third of the forearm. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and angiography-computed tomography (angio-CT) showed a large mass located in the muscles of the anterior compartment of the forearm. Surgical treatment consisted of tumor ablation including segmental resection of the radial and ulnar arteries and of the median nerve, followed by saphenous autograft vascular bypass. The treatment plan was based on tumor type, histological grading (high), age, tumor size greater than 5 cm, unfavorable location, postoperative tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) stage II, presence of microscopic tumoral tissue in the margins of the resected piece, lymph node metastases (N1) and bone metastases (M1) found on positron-emission tomography (PET)-CT according to the German soft tissue sarcoma study (CWS)-IV 2002 protocol. The chemotherapy used Carboplatin and Topotecan. Survival was less than two years after the initial presentation. Adolescent extremity masses should raise suspicion to exclude serious malignancy. Despite early diagnosis and use of multimodal therapies, alveolar RMS prognostic remains unpredictable.
