RESUMO

Rutin, a flavonoid phytochemical compound, plays a vital role in human health. It is used in treating capillary fragility and has anti-Alzheimer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. In this study, Ti-Mo-Ni-O nanotubes (NTs) were used, for the first time, in an unprecedented plant biotechnology application, wherein in vitro Philodendron shoots (Philodendron erubescens) known as "Imperial Red" were targeted for rutin accumulation. The antioxidant responses and the accumulation of rutin were evaluated in treated Philodendron erubescens (P. erubescens) shoots using 5.0 mg/L of Ti-Mo-Ni-O NTs. The total phenolic content and total flavonoid content were estimated, and an ABTS+ assay, FRAP assay, and iron metal chelation assay were performed. The application of Ti-Mo-Ni-O NTs enhanced the rutin content considerably from 0.02 mg/g to 2.96 mg/g for dry-weight shootlet extracts. Therefore, the use of Ti-Mo-Ni-O NTs is proposed to be a superior alternative to elevate the rutin content. The aim of the current study is to target P. erubescens shoots grown in vitro for the accumulation of rutin compounds using Ti-Mo-Ni-O NT powder, to determine the quantitative and qualitative accumulation of rutin via HPLC-DAD analysis, and to estimate the antioxidant activity of P. erubescens shoot extract. This study presents a novel methodology for utilizing nano-biotechnology in the synthesis of plant secondary metabolites.

Recycling gold from electronic waste offers significant benefits for both environmental protection and resource sustainability. However, this process presents considerable challenges due to high costs, prolonged processing times, and interference from coexisting metals. In this study, we synthesized a hybrid mesoporous nanocomposite comprising platelets-like CoNi2S4 incorporated with g-C3N4 nanosheets (CoNi2S4@g-C3N4) for the selective recovery of gold (Au(iii)) ions from spent computer motherboards. Comprehensive characterization of the CoNi2S4@g-C3N4 nanocomposite was conducted, including its physicochemical properties, textural and structural characteristics, morphology, and elemental composition. The CoNi2S4@g-C3N4 extractor demonstrated an exceptional adsorption capacity of 200.6 mg g-1, with high selectivity at pH 2, rapid equilibrium time of 60 minutes, and satisfactory reusability for over ten cycles. Adsorption isotherm and kinetic studies revealed that the CoNi2S4@g-C3N4 nanocomposite adheres to the Langmuir adsorption model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model for Au(iii) ion adsorption. Overall, this study introduces a viable adsorbent that shows considerable promise for industrial-scale Au(iii) extraction from e-waste.

Multiple myeloma (MM), mature B-cell lineage neoplasm, is characterized by abnormal clonal proliferation of plasma cells and presence of monoclonal protein (M protein). The study was conducted to reveal presenting features, laboratory findings, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status and skeletal survey on patients with multiple myeloma. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in the Department of Haematology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2019 to July 2020 with a sample size of 81. Data were collected in a case record form after obtaining informed verbal consent from patients and /or their legal guardians. Relevant ethical issues and data quality assurance were taken into consideration. Data were analyzed with SPSS, Version 25.0 with presentation in figures and tables with frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation based on data nature. Statistical tests were carried out as appropriate with 5.0% level of significance for assessing statistical association. Mean age of the patients was 58.9±12.0 years. Male female ratio was 2:1. 35(43.2%) patients were smokers with only 2(2.5%) had family history of haematological malignancies. Bone pain (72.8%) was the most common presenting feature, while hypertension (59.1%), diabetes mellitus (29.5%), respiratory illness (11.3%) and cardiac disease (11.4%) were the common co-morbidities. Most common ECOG performance status was ECOG-1(48.1%). Mean haemoglobin (Hb) was 9.4±2.3gm/dl and mean erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was 89.5±42.1 mm in 1st hour. Mean serum creatinine level was 2.0±1.85 mg/dl and ≥2.0mg/dl in 42(34.2%). Among 50 documentation serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was raised in 18(36.0%). Mean serum calcium level was 9.6±1.8mg/dl >11.0mg/dL in 10(14.5%) cases. Serum albumin <3.5gm/dl in 37(49.3%), ß2-microglobulin >5.5mg/dl in 37(57.8%) cases, International staging system (ISS) stage III was in 59.4% and Bence Jones Protein (BJP) was present in 46.7% cases. Lytic lesions were present in 75.0%, In 38(74.5%) patients vertebrae were involved, while in 18(35.2%) ribs were involved, in 14(27.5%) patients skull was involved and in 3(5.9%) patients involved bones were femur, humerus, sternum and scapula. Mean plasma cells percentage was 62.1±24.9%. Immuno-Fixation Electrophoresis (IFE) revealed IgG (72.7%), IgA (18.2%), Free light chain (FLC) (9.1%). FLC ratio was ≥100 in 29.0% cases. Significant statistical association was observed between serum creatinine with Hb concentration (p<0.05), serum creatinine level with ISS staging (p<0.05) and serum calcium level (p<0/05), while insignificant association was revealed between BJP present status and serum creatinine level (p>0.05). Bone pain, fatigue, fever and neurological impairment were the common presenting features. Anaemia, renal impairment and skeletal lytic events were the prominent physical findings. ISS staging was statistically associated with serum creatinine level, while serum calcium level was associated with serum creatinine and lytic lesions.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), owing to their unusual characteristics, have been used in various pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and healthcare products. AgNPs, with their exceptional biological potential, exhibit antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and wound healing properties and have been extensively used in burn therapy. Several studies have established the use of silver nanoparticles in the treatment of burn injuries, resulting in reduced inflammation, quick tissue regeneration, and the remarkable creation of collagen fibers. Conventional physical and chemical techniques have synthesized AgNPs, but they appear to be highly costly and hazardous. Recently, there has been considerable interest in the synthesis of AgNPs using the green chemistry approach because of its tremendous benefits, including being non-toxic, low energy consumption, pollution-free, economical, environmentally friendly, and more sustainable. This review emphasizes the green synthesis of AgNPs using bacteria, fungi, plants, and other microorganisms and the current research related to the application of green synthesized AgNPs in burn therapy, including the biological aspects of AgNPs, their mode of action, and any possible detrimental effects.

Photovoltaic (PV)-based power generation systems are becoming increasingly popular as a due to its high performance and cleanliness. Several factors influence the performance of a PV system, including shadowing effects. PV systems employ MPPT methodologies to obtain the power from PV array. Conventional MPPTs works well under normal conditions when there is no shadow effects or partial shading. The presence of partial shading affects the system performance and generates several power peaks. This complicates the process of finding out of the global peak (GMPP) with improved tracking efficiency and reduced settling time including conversion efficiency. This work proposes three hybrid MPPT techniques: Water Cycle Optimisation-Perturb and Observe (WCO-PO), Artificial Neural Network Supported Adaptable Stepped-Scaled Perturb and Observe (ANN-ASSPO), Grey Wolf Optimisation-Modified Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Controller (GWO-MFTSMC), and two conventional MPPT techniques WCO and P&O have been implemented. The proposed system utilizes interleaved boost converter with three phase. The performances of proposed hybrid MPPTs strategies were compared in terms of output voltage, output current and extracted power. The comparison also includes conversion efficiency and average settling time. To analyse the performances, four different cases have been used to test the efficacy of hybrid MPPTs under changing climatic conditions. The MATLAB/Simulink tool has been used to analyze the PV system performances. In the three hybrid MPPT techniques, WCO-PO has performed better when compared to other two hybrid MPPTs in terms of conversion efficiency (99.56%) and settling time (1.4 m).

Electroencephalography (EEG) is effectively employed to describe cognitive patterns corresponding to different tasks of motor functions for brain-computer interface (BCI) implementation. Explicit information processing is necessary to reduce the computational complexity of practical BCI systems. This paper presents an entropy-based approach to select effective EEG channels for motor imagery (MI) classification in brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. The method identifies channels with higher entropy scores, which is an indication of greater information content. It discards redundant or noisy channels leading to reduced computational complexity and improved classification accuracy. High entropy means a more disordered pattern, whereas low entropy means a less disordered pattern with less information. The entropy of each channel for individual trials is calculated. The weight of each channel is represented by the mean entropy of the channel over all the trials. A set of channels with higher mean entropy are selected as effective channels for MI classification. A limited number of sub-band signals are created by decomposing the selected channels. To extract the spatial features, the common spatial pattern (CSP) is applied to each sub-band space of EEG signals. The CSP-based features are used to classify the right-hand and right-foot MI tasks using a support vector machine (SVM). The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated using two publicly available EEG datasets, known as BCI competition III-IV(A) and BCI competition IV-I. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach surpasses cutting-edge techniques.

In secondary healthcare, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CREs), such as those observed in Klebsiella pneumoniae, are a global public health priority with significant clinical outcomes. In this study, we described the clinical, phenotypic, and genotypic characteristics of three pan-drug-resistant (PDR) isolates that demonstrated extended resistance to conventional and novel antimicrobials. All patients had risk factors for the acquisition of multidrug-resistant organisms, while microbiological susceptibility testing showed resistance to all conventional antimicrobials. Advanced susceptibility testing demonstrated resistance to broad agents, such as ceftazidime-avibactam, ceftolozane-tazobactam, and meropenem-vaborbactam. Nevertheless, all isolates were susceptible to cefiderocol, suggested as one of the novel antimicrobials that demonstrated potent in vitro activity against resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including CREs, pointing toward its potential therapeutic role for PDR pathogens. Expanded genomic studies revealed multiple antimicrobial-resistant genes (ARGs), including blaNMD-5 and blaOXA derivative types, as well as a mutated outer membrane porin protein (OmpK37).

OBJECTIVE: Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus that may lead to vision loss. Retinal problems are more likely to occur as the illness advances. Micro- and macro-vascular angiopathy is both linked to diabetes mellitus. Examining the impact of diabetes on blood vessels is one approach to understanding the disease's outward symptoms. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the morphology and breadth of conjunctival vessels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to establish a correlation between these alterations and clinical retinal changes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A case-control study was conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, KIMS, Koppal, Karnataka. The study included diabetic patients who voluntarily participated and were assessed at the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department (OPD). The general and ophthalmic history was taken for both cases and control. The best corrected visual acuity was estimated. Each subject, including cases and controls, had a general and ophthalmic history recorded. The anterior segment was evaluated with a slit lamp. After completing the clinical examination, the subjects underwent a conjunctival vessel imaging study using the slit lamp. The imaging included the study of conjunctival vessel morphology using ImageNet. RESULTS: Both the test and control groups are comparable in terms of age and gender. The severity of diabetic retinopathy was shown to correlate with the conjunctival width range. Mild diabetic retinopathy is characterized by a conjunctival width of 30-34 microns (mean: 34.9), moderate diabetic retinopathy by 35-39 microns (mean: 37.3), severe diabetic retinopathy by 40-44 microns (mean: 42.4), and proliferative diabetic retinopathy by 50-54 microns (mean: 45.6). CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus patients have larger conjunctival arteries as the disease becomes more severe. Dilated and tortuous conjunctival arteries are visible indicators that correlate with worsening diabetic retinopathy. This could be used for screening to ensure timely referral.

Gastric ulcers are one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorders. The current study investigated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of selenium (Se) and lecithin (Lec) alone and in combination against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers in mice, and their ability to modulate insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1)/ Phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN)/ Protein kinase B (Akt)/ Forkhead box O3a (FoxO3a) signaling. The mice were divided into normal, ethanol, Se + ethanol, Lec + ethanol, Se + Lec + ethanol, and omeprazole + ethanol groups. Treatment with the selected doses was continued for 14 days before a single dose of absolute ethanol (5 ml/kg body weight) was administered to induce gastric ulcers in mice. The results showed that pretreatment with Se and Lec combination effectively decreased both the macro- and microscopic gastric lesions and increased the protection index compared to the ethanol group. Remarkably, the Se and Lec combination decreased the levels of reactive oxygen species, malondialdehyde, and cytochrome c and increased glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and thioredoxin reductase activities in gastric tissues. The Se and Lec combination increased prostaglandin E2 and interleukin-10 levels but decreased tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 and interleukin-1ß levels compared to either treatment alone. Interestingly, this combination decreased the expression of IGF-1, p-Akt, and FoxO3a proteins and increased PTEN expression in gastric tissues. The gastric tissues examination by hematoxylin and eosin staining confirmed these results. Therefore, the Se and Lec combination showed superior protective effects against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers in mice, compared to either treatment alone, through antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, in addition to modulating IGF-1/PTEN/Akt/FoxO3a pathway signaling.

Diabetes mellitus is one of the chronic metabolic diseases whose control remains a challenge. Its increased incidence was mainly attributed to increased environmental contamination. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of feeding clover microgreen (CM) on a diabetes model with or without aflatoxin exposure. Rats were distributed into 8 groups. G1 was a control group. G2 was fed CM. G3 was administered aflatoxin orally. G4 was fed clover and administered aflatoxin. G5 was diabetic rats. G6 was diabetic rats fed CM. G7 was diabetic rats administered aflatoxin. G8 was diabetic rats administered aflatoxin and fed CM. Phytochemical analysis of the CM showed that gardenin was the most common compound. The administration of aflatoxin aggravated diabetes. The groups fed CM showed a decreased glucose concentration compared to the unfed groups. Liver and kidney function parameters were improved by CM. The histopathological alteration of the pancreas, liver, and kidneys was relieved in CM-fed groups. The area % of insulin in islets of Langerhans was increased in CM-fed groups. Feeding CM also enhanced the oxidative stress biomarkers. In conclusion, CM improved all evaluated parameters in diabetic rats either exposed to aflatoxin or not compared to the control.

Deudorix livia (Klug, 1834) (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) is one of the most serious lepidopteran insect pests attacking pomegranate fruit around the world, including Egypt (Assiut Governorate, Upper Egypt). To create an effective program (IPM) to control such harmful pests, accurate identification of the pest morphology and genetic structure is essential. Studies on the morphogenetics of this pest are scarce. So, the goal of this research is to identify it both morphologically and genetically. Pomegranate butterfly immature stages were collected from infested pomegranate fruits and reared in the laboratory until the adult's emergence. By using light and scanning electron microscopy, some morphological structures of males and females were studied. DNA was extracted from the legs of a pomegranate butterfly adult. Also, PCR was conducted by using the mitochondrial CO1 gene for sequencing and phylogenetic tests. The results show that the body scales are a mixture of dark and light gray on the dorsal side and white on the ventral side in both sexes. The average male body length (BL) was 11.674 ± 0.299 mm and was 11.458 ± 1.001 mm for the females. The wing venation is similar in both sexes. For the first time, a partial sequence of the mitochondrial CO1 gene in D. livia was deposited in GenBank (MW463927).

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of some heteroleptic Cr(III) complexes of the form [Cr(Phen)2L](OTf)3, where Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and L is either 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) or its derivatives, such as 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (4,4'-DMB), 4,4'-dimethoxy-2,2'-bipyridine (4,4'-DMOB), 4,4'-ditert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine (4,4'-dtbpy), 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (5,5'-DMB), 4,4'-dimethoxycarbonyl-2,2'-bipyridine (4,4'-dmcbpy) or 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives, such as 5-methyl-1,10-phenanthroline (5-Me-Phen) and 4,7-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (4,7-DMP). Heteroleptic complexes were prepared in two stages via the intermediate [Cr(Phen)2(CF3SO3)2](CF3SO3) and five examples have been crystallographically characterized. Steady-state absorption and luminescence emission characteristics of these complexes were measured in 1 M HCl solutions. The luminescence quantum yield of these complexes was found to be the lowest for [Cr(Phen)2(4,4'-dmcbpy)](OTf)3 and the highest for [Cr(Phen)2(4,4'-DMB)](OTf)3 with values of 0.31 × 10-2 and 1.48 × 10-2, respectively. The calculated excited state energy, E0-0, was found to vary within the narrow range of 163.1-165.0 kJ mol-1 across the series. Transient absorption spectra in degassed, air-equilibrated, and oxygen-saturated 1 M HCl aqueous solutions were also measured at different time decays and demonstrated no significant differences, indicating the absence of any ion-separated species in the excited state. Excited-state decay traces at the wavelength of maximum absorption were used to calculate oxygen quenching rate constants, kq, which were found to be in the range 3.26-5.27 × 107 M-1 s-1. Singlet oxygen luminescence photosensitized by these complexes was observed in D2O, and its luminescence intensity at 1270 nm was used for the determination of singlet oxygen quantum yields for these complexes, which were in the range of 0.20-0.44, while the fraction of the excited 2E state quenched by oxygen was in the range of 0.22-0.68, and the efficiency of singlet oxygen production was in the range of 0.44-0.90. The mechanism by which the excited 2E state is quenched by oxygen is explained by a spin statistical model that predicts the balance between charge transfer and noncharge transfer deactivation pathways, which was represented by the parameter pCT that was found to vary from 0.35 to 0.68 for this series of Cr(III) complexes.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating illness with limited therapeutic interventions. The aim of this study is to investigate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying AD and explore the potential neuroprotective effects of cocoa, either alone or in combination with other nutraceuticals, in an animal model of aluminum-induced AD. Rats were divided into nine groups: control, aluminum chloride (AlCl3) alone, AlCl3 with cocoa alone, AlCl3 with vinpocetine (VIN), AlCl3 with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), AlCl3 with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), AlCl3 with wheatgrass (WG), AlCl3 with vitamin (Vit) B complex, and AlCl3 with a combination of Vit C, Vit E, and selenium (Se). The animals were treated for five weeks, and we assessed behavioral, histopathological, and biochemical changes, focusing on oxidative stress, inflammation, Wnt/GSK-3ß/ß-catenin signaling, ER stress, autophagy, and apoptosis. AlCl3 administration induced oxidative stress, as evidenced by elevated levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and downregulation of cellular antioxidants (Nrf2, HO-1, SOD, and TAC). AlCl3 also upregulated inflammatory biomarkers (TNF-α and IL-1ß) and GSK-3ß, leading to increased tau phosphorylation, decreased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression, and downregulation of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Furthermore, AlCl3 intensified C/EBP, p-PERK, GRP-78, and CHOP, indicating sustained ER stress, and decreased Beclin-1 and anti-apoptotic B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) expressions. These alterations contributed to the observed behavioral and histological changes in the AlCl3-induced AD model. Administration of cocoa, either alone or in combination with other nutraceuticals, particularly VIN or EGCG, demonstrated remarkable amelioration of all assessed parameters. The combination of cocoa with nutraceuticals attenuated the AD-mediated deterioration by modulating interrelated pathophysiological pathways, including inflammation, antioxidant responses, GSK-3ß-Wnt/ß-catenin signaling, ER stress, and apoptosis. These findings provide insights into the intricate pathogenesis of AD and highlight the neuroprotective effects of nutraceuticals through multiple signaling pathways.

Rapid urbanization has negative effects on ecology, economics, and public health, primarily due to unchecked population growth. Sustainable building materials and methods are needed to mitigate these issues and reduce energy use, waste production, and environmental damage. This study highlights the potential of agricultural waste as a sustainable source of construction materials and provides valuable insights into the performance and benefits of using fired clay bricks made from pomegranate peel waste. In this study, fired clay bricks were produced using pomegranate peel waste as a sustainable building material. To optimize the firing temperature and percentage of pomegranate peel waste, a series of experiments was conducted to determine fundamental properties such as mechanical, physical, and thermal properties. Subsequently, the obtained thermal properties were utilized as input data in Design Builder software version (V.5.0.0.105) to assess the thermal and energy performance of the produced bricks. The results showed that the optimum firing temperature for the bricks was 900 °C with 10% pomegranate peel waste. The fabricated bricks reduced energy consumption by 6.97%, 8.54%, and 13.89% at firing temperatures of 700 °C, 800 °C, and 900 °C, respectively, due to their decreased thermal conductivity. CO2 emissions also decreased by 4.85%, 6.07%, and 12% at the same firing temperatures. The payback time for the bricks was found to be 0.65 years at a firing temperature of 900 °C. These findings demonstrate the potential of fired clay bricks made from pomegranate peel waste as a promising construction material that limits heat gain, preserves energy, reduces CO2 emissions, and provides a fast return on investment.

The current work investigates the possibility of fabricating additive manufacturing products in solid-state form, from AA2011-T6 of 40 mm diameter rods as a feedstock, using an additive friction stir deposition (A-FSD) technique. The use of large diameter feedstocks, especially high-strength aluminum alloys (2XXX series), is a challenge, as it necessitates high power and the critical selection of the optimal A-FSD parameters, such as feed rate and spindle rotation speed. The study included applying a wide range of spindle rotation speeds, ranging from 400 to 1200 rpm, at three levels of feeding rates of 1, 3, and 5 mm/min. The AA2011-T6 friction stir deposited parts (FSDPs) were visually evaluated. This was followed by an examination of macrostructures through the thickness of the fabricated specimens. The characterization of microstructures was also carried out using optical microscopy and a scanning electron microscope equipped with advanced EDS analysis. Furthermore, the mechanical properties in terms of hardness and compressive strength of the AA2011-T6 base material (BM) and deposited materials were evaluated. Sound, additively manufactured products were successfully fabricated from 40 mm diameter AA2011-T6 feedstocks using the suggested deposition variables of 600 and 800 rpm spindle speeds and feeding rates of 1, 3, and 5 mm/min. The results indicated that the spindle speed and feeding rate govern the quality of the FSDPs. Furthermore, the axial load during the A-FSD process increased with increasing these parameters. In comparison to the AA2011-T6 BM, the additively deposited materials showed a refined grain structure and uniform dispersion of the fragment precipitates in their continuous multi-layers. The reduction ratio in grain size attains 71.56%, 76%, and 81.31% for the FSDPs processed at 800 rpm spindle speed and feeding rates of 1, 3 and 5 mm/min, respectively, compared to the grain size of BM. The Al2Cu and Al7Cu2Fe intermetallics are detected in the AA2011-T6 BM, and their deposited parts are in different shapes of spherical, almost spherical, irregular, and rod-like shapes. The compressive strength and hardness of the deposited parts increased with increasing spindle speed and feeding speeds. At a spindle speed of 800 rpm and a 5 mm/min feeding rate, the higher hardness and compressive strength gained were 85% and 93%, respectively, from that of the AA2011-T6 feedstock.

This study explores the potential for making lightweight bricks via the use of dry, pulverized spent mushroom materials (SMM) as a thermal insulator. There are five distinct replacement proportions of SMM that are used, and they range from 0% to 15% of the weight of the clay. The firing of the fabricated bricks at temperatures of 700, 800, and 900 °C led to the development of pores on the interior surface of the bricks as a consequence of the decomposition of SMM. The impact of SMM on the physicomechanical characteristics of fabricated bricks is assessed based on standard codes. Compressive strength, bulk density, and thermal conductivity decreased as the SMM content increased, reaching up to 8.7 MPa, 1420 kg/m3, and 0.29 W/mK at 900 °C and 15% substitution percentage. However, cold water absorption, boiling water absorption, linear drying shrinkage, linear firing shrinkage, and apparent porosity increased with the increase in SMM, reaching 23.6%, 25.3%, and 36.6% at 900 °C and 15% substitution percentage. In the study simulation model, there was a significant improvement in energy consumption, which reached an overall reduction of 29.23% and 21.49% in Cario and Jazan cities, respectively.

Tephorosia purpurea subsp. apollinea was extracted with methanol and n-hexane to obtain sub-fractions. The chemical compounds identified with GC-MS and HPLC in T. purpurea subsp. apollinea extracts showed antioxidant and anticancer properties. The antioxidant and anticancer activities were investigated using DDPH and ABTS assays, and MTT assay, respectively. Stigmasta-5,24(28)-dien-3-ol, (3 ß,24Z)-, 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid methyl ester, phytol, chlorogenic acid, and quercetin were the major chemical compounds detected in T. purpurea subsp. apollinea. These compounds possessed antioxidant and anticancer properties. The methanol extract showed antioxidant properties with DDPH and ABTS radical scavenging of 84% and 94%, respectively, relative to ascorbic acid and trolox. The anticancer effects of T. purpurea subsp. apollinea against the cancer cell lines MCF7 (IC50 = 102.8 ± 0.6 µg/mL), MG63 (IC50 = 118.3 ± 2.5 µg/mL), T47D (IC50 = 114.7 ± 1.0 µg/mL), HeLa (IC50 = 196.3 ± 2.3 µg/mL), and PC3 (IC50 = 117.7 ± 1.1 µg/mL) were greater than its anticancer effects against U379 (IC50 = 248.4 ± 7.5 µg/mL). However, it had no adverse effects on the normal cells (WI38) (IC50 = 242.9 ± 1.8 µg/mL). Therefore, the major active constituents presented in T. purpurea subsp. apollinea can be isolated and studied for their potential antioxidant and anticancer effects against breast, cervical, and prostate cancers and osteosarcoma.

OBJECTIVES: Intraoperative bleeding is commonly encountered during living donor liver transplant procedures and is associated with greater need for blood transfusion, which increases morbidity. Herein, we hypothesized that early and continuous occlusion ofthe hepatic inflow would have a beneficial effect on the living donor liver transplant procedure regarding intraoperative blood loss and operative time. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This comparative study prospectively included 23 consecutive patients (the experimental group) who had early inflow occlusion during recipient hepatectomy for living donor liver transplant and compared the outcomes versus 29 consecutive patients who had previously received (immediately before the start of our study) living donor liver transplant by the classic technique. Blood loss and time for hepatic mobilization and dissection were compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: Patient criteria and indication for living donor liver transplant showed no significant difference between the 2 groups. There was a significant decrease in blood loss during hepatectomy in the study group versus the control group (2912 vs 3826 mL, respectively; P = .017). Packed red blood cell transfusion was less in the study group versus the control group (1550 vs 2350 cells, respectively; P < .001). The skin-to-hepatectomy time was not different between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: Early hepatic inflow occlusion is a simple and effective technique to reduce intraoperative blood loss and reduce the need for blood transfusion products during living donor liver transplant.

In this study, we utilized salicylaldehyde (SA) and p-toluidine (Tol-NH2) to synthesize 2-(Z)[(4-methylphenyl)imino]methylphenol (SA-Tol-SF), which was then reduced to 2-[(4-methylphenyl)amino]methylphenol, producing SA-Tol-NH. SA-Tol-NH was further reacted with formaldehyde to create SA-Tol-BZ monomer. Poly(SA-Tol-BZ) was produced by thermally curing it at 210 °C, after synthesizing it from SA-Tol-BZ. The chemical structure of SA-Tol-BZ was analyzed using various analytical techniques such as FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and 13C NMR spectroscopy TGA, SEM, DSC, and X-ray analyses. Afterward, we applied the obtained poly(SA-Tol-BZ) onto mild steel (MS) using thermal curing and spray coating techniques. To examine the anticorrosion attributes of MS coated with poly(SA-Tol-BZ), electrochemical characterization was employed. The study proved that poly(SA-Tol-BZ) coating had a high level of effectiveness in preventing corrosion on MS, with an efficacy of 96.52%, and also exhibited hydrophobic properties.
