RESUMO

Studies on the CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism show that this polymorphism is involved in development of breast cancer, but its specific relationships or effects are not consistent. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to investigate the association between CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism and susceptibility to breast cancer. PubMed, Scopus, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CNKI were searched for eligible studies through February 01, 2023. A total of ten studies with 2093 cases and 2302 controls were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, there is a significant association between CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism and risk of breast cancer under the homozygote genetic model (AA vs. GG, OR= 1.350, 95% CI: 1.050-1.734, p= 0.019). Stratified by ethnicity showed a significant association in Caucasian women, but not among Asian and mixed populations. This meta-analysis confirms that CXCL12 rs1801157 polymorphism is related to breast cancer risk, especially among Caucasian women. However, well-designed large-scale studies are required to further evaluate the results.

RESUMO

B1 deficiency is a very prevalent complication of bariatric surgery. This study reviews prevalence and symptoms of B1 vitamin deficiency after bariatric surgery. PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science published were searched up to 10 Feb 2022, with the following keywords: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, one anastomosis gastric bypass, Omega bypass, Mini bypass, Bariatric surgery OR Bariatric surgery, metabolic surgery, Weight loss surgery, Classic gastric bypass, Loop gastric bypass, Gastric Bypass, thiamine OR thiamin, beriberi, B1. A total of 11 studies examining 1494 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Twenty-seven percent of patients who underwent bariatric surgeries experience vitamin B1 deficiency. Thiamine supplements should be prescribed for the patients for the rest of their lives, and also standard post-surgery follow-ups are necessary in terms of monitoring dietary factors.

RESUMO

The effects of the MTHFR rs1801133 (677C>T) and rs180113 (1298A>C) polymorphisms on bladder cancer risk have been evaluated in some studies. However, the results were conflicting and ambiguous. Therefore, we aimed to perform a comprehensive meta-analysis to investigate the association of these polymorphisms with risk of bladder cancer from all eligible case-control studies. PubMed, Web of science, Scopus, SID, CNKI and SciELO databases were searched to identify all relevant studies published up to 1 January, 2021. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the strength of associations. A total of 20 case-control studies including 11 studies with 3463 cases and 3927 controls on MTHFR rs1801133 (677C>T) and 9 studies with 3177 cases and 3502 controls on rs180113 (1298A>C) polymorphism were selected. Pooled data revealed that the MTHFR rs1801133 (677C>T) and rs180113 (1298A>C) polymorphisms were not associated with risk bladder cancer in overall. Stratified analysis by ethnicity revealed that the MTHFR rs1801133 (677C>T) and rs180113 (1298A>C) polymorphisms were associated with bladder cancer risk in Asians, but not in Caucasians. There was no publication bias. The current meta-analysis revealed that the MTHFR rs1801133 (677C>T) and rs180113 (1298A>C) polymorphisms were not risk factor for development of bladder cancer globally. However, large sample size, well-designed, and population-based studies should be performed to verify the association of the MTHFR polymorphisms with bladder cancer risk.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) may have systemic effects on the body organs as liver. The purpose of present study was to evaluate changes in liver function tests(LFT) after on-pump CABG surgery and risk factors associated with LFT changes. Also, the incidence of acute liver injury after on-pump CABG is determined. METHODS: 385 patients who underwent on-pump CABG surgery were randomly selected.Preoperative and intraoperative risk factors were obtained from their medical records .Postoperative liver function tests at 24, 48 and 72 hours following surgery and discharge time were compared with the preoperative ones. A univariate linear regression analysis was used to assess the possible relationships between these changes and the preoperative and intraoperative risk factors. RESULTS: Statisitcal analysis revealed direct and significant relationship between LFT changes and pump time, aortic cross-clamp clamp time and use of intra-aortic balloon pump(IABP). Also a medical history of previous myocardia infarction was significantly related to the changes in direct bilirubin in the first 48 hours following surgery.level of preoperative left ventricle ejection fraction, smoking and using opium had significant correlation with postoperative AST changes in different days.In 12.9% of patients, the aminotransferases levels increased to more than three folds over normal upper limit but the probability for incidence of acute ischemic liver injury (transient increase in aminotransferases to over 500IU/L) was 0.77%. CONCLUSION: Using techniques to reduce clamp and pump time when possible is important during CABG. Probable liver injuries post inserting IABP should be expected for appropriate monitoring and treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal tuberculosis accounts 1-2% of all forms of tuberculosis. Peritoneal tuberculosis is an important differential diagnosis for ovarian cancer in women with ascites, adnexal mass and elevated cancer antigen 125 (CA125) levels. We report a case of a 32- year -old woman with multiple miliary peritoneal deposits mimicking advanced ovarian carcinoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 32-year-old drug addicted woman presented with menometrorrhagia, fever and shivering, ascites and pelvis mass. Ultrasonography revealed a 53×65 mm cyst in left ovary and ascites. Multiple miliary peritoneal deposits were observed during laparatomy without any mass, histologic examination confirmed tuberculosis of uterus, tubes, omentum, liver and external surfaces of small intestine. Finally, the patient recovered with anti-tuberculosis treatment. CONCLUSION: These findings highlight considering tuberculosis in the differential diagnosis of any patients with adnexal mass, ascitis and elevated serum CA125 even with negative cytology and bacteriology test results.
