[Neuropeptides in the treatment of sensorineural hypoacusis in children]. / Neiropeptidy v lechenii sensonevral'noi tugoukhosti u detei.

The examination of 250 children with neurosensory hypoacusis (NSH) demonstrated a 78% efficacy of endaural phonophoresis with dalargin (DPP) and transcranial electrostimulation (TCE) for improvement of acoustic function in the presence of positive ultrasound prognosis. Rheoencephalography and biochemical tests show that neuropeptides improve cerebral hemodynamics and normalize metabolism. Both DPP and TCE promote normalization of protein spectrum of the serum. In addition, TCE normalizes serum magnesium levels and its renal elimination, while DPP normalizes serum content of cholesterol.

[Ultrastructural study of the organ of Corti in animals given kanamycin and ceruloplasmin]. / Eksperimental'noye issledovaniye ultrastruktury spiral'nogo organa pri vvedenii kanamitsina i tseruloplazmina.

10 guinea pigs of group 1 were injected subcutaneously kanamycin (400 mg/kg). The other 10 guinea pigs of group 2 received human ceruloplasmin as an intraperitoneal injection of 10% solution (0.25 ml of the protein preparation per 100 g body weight) 30 min before kanamycin administration. 7 days after the treatment the cochlease were isolated and examined electron microscopically. The Corti's organ was stained with alcyan blue and lanthanum hydroxide. In animals of group 1 there was mitochondrial vacuolization, enlargement of the cisterns of the endoplasmic network, Golgi apparatus, sub-superficial network; glycocalix layer on the surface of the receptor epithelium was unbroken but uneven, in the sensor cells of the Corti's organ of the group 2 animals only few mitochondria were vacuolized. A great number of ribosomes and mitochondrial contacts with membraneous cell structures were indicative of active protein synthesis and energetic processes. Glycocalix was less damaged. This was indicative of an otoprotective effect of ceruloplasmin which diminished kanamycin ototoxicity.

[Blood serum magnesium content and its excretion by the kidneys in thyrotoxicosis]. / Soderzhanie magniia v syvorotke krovi i ego ékskretsiia pochkami u bol'nykh tireotoksikozom.

A study was made of magnesium content in the blood serum and the urine of 62 patients with thyrotoxicosis before and after the parenteral administration of magnesium sulfate (load dose). Blood serum magnesium content was diminished; as to its renal excretion--it failed to differ from that in the control group. The mentioned disturbances in magnesium content were more pronounced in patients with thyrotoxicosis for a long time.

[Determination of the thyroglobulin content in malignant and benign thyroid gland tumors as well as in thyrotoxic strumas using an immunological method]. / Opredelenie soderzhaniia tireoglobulina v zlokachestvennykh i dobrokachestvennykh opukholiakh shchitovidnoi zhelezy, a takzhe v tireotoksicheskikh strumakh s pomoshch'iu immunologicheskogo metoda.

A decreased content of the organospecific antigen (thyroglobulin) was found in the tissues of 70% of thyroid gland cancers and in about 50% of thyroid benign tumours and thyrotoxic goiters studied. These data testify to the fact that the antigenic simplification is not an obligatory and specific process for the malignant transformation of thyroid tissue. Among the neoplasms with decreased thyroglobulin content there were found tumours built up both of "A" and "C" cellular types, thus indicating the dual nature of the antigenic simplification of the thyroid tumours.
