BACKGROUND: Miscommunication during interfacility handoffs to a higher level of care can harm critically ill children. Adapting evidence-based handoff interventions to interfacility referral communication may prevent adverse events. The objective of this project was to develop and evaluate a standard electronic referral template (I-PASS-to-PICU) to improve communication for interfacility pediatric ICU (PICU) transfers. METHODS: I-PASS-to-PICU was iteratively developed in a single PICU. A core PICU stakeholder group collaboratively designed an electronic health record (EHR)-supported clinical note template by adapting elements from I-PASS, an evidence-based handoff program, to support information exchange between referring clinicians and receiving PICU physicians. I-PASS-to-PICU is a receiver-driven tool used by PICU physicians to guide verbal communication and electronic documentation during PICU transfer calls. The template underwent three cycles of iterative evaluation and redesign informed by individual and group interviews of multidisciplinary PICU staff, usability testing using simulated and actual referral calls, and debriefing with PICU physicians. RESULTS: Individual and group interviews with 21 PICU staff members revealed that relevant, accurate, and concise information was needed for adequate admission preparedness. Time constraints and secondhand information transmission were identified as barriers. Usability testing with six receiving PICU physicians using simulated and actual calls revealed good usability on the validated System Usability Scale (SUS), with a mean score of 77.5 (standard deviation 10.9). Fellows indicated that most fields were relevant and that the template was feasible to use. CONCLUSION: I-PASS-to-PICU was technically feasible, usable, and relevant. The authors plan to further evaluate its effectiveness in improving information exchange during real-time PICU practice.

RESUMO

Histoplasma-mediated pericarditis is rare, and it occurs due to host-mediated inflammatory or immune response to adjacent mediastinal adenitis or pneumonitis. It is usually self-limited and rarely progresses to a disseminated infection in an immunocompetent individual. In rare instances, it can occur without pulmonary manifestations, making the diagnosis challenging given the broad list of differentials that can be considered as in our patient who initially presented with an isolated pericardial effusion with tamponade needing emergent pericardiocentesis.

Platelet mass index (PMI) as a prognostic indicator in pediatric sepsis has not been previously reported. In this retrospective observational study, we evaluated PMI's performance as a prognostic indicator in children aged younger than 18 years with sepsis and septic shock in relationship with survival. Over 5 years, we collected data from 122 children admitted to our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). PMI accuracy was assessed with sensitivity and specificity and its discrimination was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Median PMI values on days 1 and 3 of PICU admission were lower among nonsurvivors. On day 1 of PICU admission, a cutoff PMI value of 1,450 fL/nL resulted in a sensitivity of 72% and a specificity of 69%, and the AUC was 0.70 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.55-0.86). Similarly, on day 3, a cutoff of 900 fL/nL resulted in a sensitivity of 71% and a specificity of 70%, and the AUC was 0.76 (95% CI: 0.59-0.92). Our exploratory study suggests that low PMI in children with septic shock is associated with increased mortality. Considering the PMI's fair performance, further studies should be performed to assess its clinical value.

INTRODUCTION: Hemolysis during pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is associated with increased risk for renal failure and mortality. OBJECTIVES: We aim to describe risk factors for hemolysis in pediatric ECMO supported by centrifugal pumps. METHODS: We conducted an analysis of retrospective data collected at an academic children's hospital from January 2017 to December 2019. MEASUREMENTS AND RESULTS: Plasma-free hemoglobin (PFH) levels were measured daily, and hemolysis was defined as PFH>50 mg/dL. Of 46 ECMO runs over 528 ECMO days, hemolysis occurred in 23 (58%) patients over a total of 40 (8%) ECMO days. In multivariable logistic regression models, VA-ECMO (aOR=4.69, 95% CI: 1.01-21.83) and higher hemoglobin (aOR = 1.38, 95% CI: 1.06-1.81) were independently associated with hemolysis. There were also non-significant trends toward increased risk for hemolysis with higher rotational pump speed (aOR=2.39, 95% CI: 0.75-7.65), higher packed red blood cell transfusions (aOR=1.15, 95% CI: 0.99-1.34), and higher cryoprecipitate transfusions (aOR=2.01, 95% CI: 0.83-4.86). Isolated pump exchanges that were performed in 12 patients with hemolysis led to significant decreases in PFH levels within 24 h (89 vs 11 mg/dL, p<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Hemolysis is common in pediatric ECMO using centrifugal pumps. Avoidance of high pump speeds and conservative administration of blood products may help to mitigate the risk for hemolysis. Furthermore, pump exchange may be an effective first-line treatment for hemolysis.

BACKGROUND: Multicenter contemporary data describing short-term outcomes after initial interventions of neonates with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS) are limited. This multicenter study describes characteristics and outcomes of PA-IVS neonates after their initial catheter or surgical intervention and identifies factors associated with major adverse cardiac events (MACE). METHODS: Neonates with PA-IVS who underwent surgical or catheter intervention between 2009 and 2019 in 19 centers were reviewed. Risk factors for MACE, defined as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, mechanical circulatory support, stroke, or in-hospital mortality, were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression models. RESULTS: We reviewed 279 neonates: 79 (28%) underwent right ventricular decompression, 151 (54%) underwent systemic-to-pulmonary shunt or ductal stent placement only, 36 (13%) underwent right ventricular decompression with shunt or ductal stent placement, and 11 (4%) underwent transplantation. MACE occurred in 57 patients (20%): 26 (9%) received mechanical circulatory support, 37 (13%) received cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stroke occurred in 16 (6%), and 23 (8%) died. The presence of 2 major coronary artery stenoses (adjusted odds ratio, 4.99; 95% CI, 1.16-21.39) and lower weight at first intervention (adjusted odds ratio, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.01-2.27) were significantly associated with MACE. Coronary ischemia was the most frequent presumed mechanism of death (n = 10). CONCLUSIONS: In a multicenter cohort, 1 in 5 neonates with PA-IVS experienced MACE after their initial intervention. Patients with 2 major coronary artery stenoses or lower weight at the time of the initial procedure were most likely to experience MACE and warrant vigilance during preintervention planning and postintervention management.

Chronic cough can be a diagnostic challenge in the pediatric population. Foreign body aspiration without typical signs and symptoms can often be overlooked as a cause of chronic cough in children. Coin aspirations in the trachea typically have a sagittal orientation on an anteroposterior (AP) chest radiograph. We report a rare case of a previously healthy five-year-old girl presenting with a chronic cough for five months caused by a coin with a coronal orientation on an AP chest radiograph. The coin, initially presumed to be lodged in the esophagus, was actually lodged in the cervical trachea, leading to the development of a tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF). Her AP chest radiograph showed a coronal, circular radio-opaque shadow and the lateral view a tangential radio-opaque shadow, prompting an initial evaluation by esophagogastroduodenoscopy, which was normal. She then underwent rigid bronchoscopy, revealing a coin lodged in the trachea along with a TEF. Surgical removal was achieved through an external approach with a vertical tracheotomy and insertion of a tracheostomy tube. Five days later, a repeat rigid bronchoscopy showed a well-healed TEF, and she was successfully decannulated. She was ultimately discharged home on room air and oral feeds. TEF as a complication of a foreign body lodged in the trachea or esophagus is rare but life-threatening. Foreign body aspiration should always be considered in the differential diagnosis when evaluating younger children with chronic cough.

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS) are serious complications associated with diabetes mellitus (DM). HHS is a common diagnosis in adults but rare in children. DKA is a usual presentation for new-onset type 1 DM, although HHS is rarely a manifestation of new-onset type 1 DM. Diagnosis and management of HHS are challenging in pediatric patients, especially if they present with a mixed picture of HHS and DKA. We report an adolescent female with a new onset of type 1 DM presented as mixed DKA and HHS. Treatment included meticulous management of fluids and continuous insulin drip with the resolution of acidosis within 24 hours and hyperosmolar state at 96 hours of admission. Early differentiation of these two entities and meticulous fluid management improves the outcome and decreases the risk of complications such as cerebral edema, renal failure, and thrombosis, among others.

Background: Limited data exist about effective regimens for pharmacological thromboprophylaxis in children with acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). Objectives: Study the outcomes of institutional thromboprophylaxis protocol for primary venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention in children hospitalized with acute COVID-19/MIS-C. Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included consecutive children (aged less than 21 years) with COVID-19/MIS-C who received tailored intensity thromboprophylaxis, primarily with low-molecular-weight heparin, from April 2020 through October 2021. Thromboprophylaxis was given to those with moderate to severe disease based on the World Health Organization scale and exposure to two or more VTE risk factors. Therapeutic intensity was considered for severe illness. Clinical recovery along with D-dimer improvement determined thromboprophylaxis duration. Outcomes were incident VTEs, bleeding, and mortality. Results: Among 211 hospitalizations, 45 (21.3%) received thromboprophylaxis (COVID-19, 16; MIS-C, 29). Median age was 14.8 years (interquartile range [IQR], 8.9-16.1). Among 35 (77.8%) with severe illness, 27 (60.0%) required respiratory support, and 19 (42.2%) required an intensive care unit stay. Median hospitalization was 6 days (IQR, 5.0-10.5). Median thromboprophylaxis duration was 19 days (IQR, 6.0-31.0) with therapeutic intensity in 24 (53.3%) and prophylactic in 21 (46.7%). Outcomes were as follows: VTE, 1 (2.2%); death, 1 (2.2%, unrelated to bleeding/thrombosis); major/clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding, 0; and minor bleeding, 7 (15.5%). D-dimer was elevated in a majority at diagnosis (median, 2.3; IQR, 1.2-3.3 mg/ml fibrinogen-equivalent units) and was noninformative in assessing disease severity. D-dimer normalized at thromboprophylaxis discontinuation. Conclusions: Our experience of using clinically directed thromboprophylaxis with tailored intensity approach for children hospitalized with COVID-19 and MIS-C favors its inclusion in current standard of care. The role of D-dimer in directing thromboprophylaxis management deserves further evaluation.

Contemporary multicenter data regarding midterm outcomes for neonates with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum are lacking. We sought to describe outcomes in a contemporary multicenter cohort, determine factors associated with end-states, and evaluate the effect of right ventricular coronary dependency and coronary atresia on transplant-free survival. Neonates treated during 2009-2019 in 19 United States centers were reviewed. Competing risks analysis was performed to determine cumulative risk of each end-state, and multivariable regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with each end-state and transplant-free survival. We reviewed 295 patients. Median tricuspid valve Z-score was - 3.06 (25%, 75%: - 4.00, - 1.52). Final end-state was biventricular repair for 45 patients (15.2%), one-and-a half ventricle for 16 (5.4%), Fontan for 75 (25.4%), cardiac transplantation for 29 (9.8%), and death for 54 (18.3%). Seventy-six patients (25.7%) remained in mixed circulation. Cumulative risk estimate of death was 10.9%, 16.1%, 16.9%, and 18.8% at 1, 6 months, 1 year, and 5 years, respectively. Tricuspid valve Z-score was inversely, and coronary atresia positively associated with death or transplantation [odds ratio (OR) = 0.46, (95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.29-0.75, p < 0.001) and OR = 3.75 (95% CI 1.46-9.61, p = 0.011), respectively]. Right ventricular coronary dependency and left coronary atresia had a significant effect on transplant-free survival (log-rank p < 0.001). In a contemporary multicenter cohort of patients with PAIVS, consisting predominantly of patients with moderate-to-severe right ventricular hypoplasia, we observed favorable survival outcomes. Right ventricular coronary dependency and left, but not right, coronary atresia significantly worsens transplant-free survival.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: N-terminal of probrain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels are often elevated in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) secondary to inflammation, myocardial dysfunction, or increased wall tension. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), accepted treatment of MIS-C, may transiently increase myocardial tension and contribute to an increase in NT-proBNP. We sought to study the association between pre- and post-IVIG levels of NT-proBNP and CRP and their clinical significance. METHODS: This single-center, retrospective, cohort study included consecutive children, aged ≤21 years, with diagnosis of MIS-C who received IVIG from April 2020 to October 2021. Data collection included clinical characteristics, laboratory tests, management, and outcomes. Study cohort consisted of patients who received IVIG and had NT-proBNP levels available pre- and post-IVIG. RESULTS: Among 35 patients with MIS-C, 30 met inclusion criteria. Twenty-four, 80%, showed elevation in NT-proBNP post-IVIG. The median NT-proBNP level pre-IVIG was 1921 pg/mL (interquartile range 548-3956), significantly lower than the post-IVIG median of 3756 pg/mL (interquartile range 1342-7634)) (P = .0010). The median pre-IVIG CRP level was significantly higher than the post-IVIG level (12 mg/dL vs 8 mg/dL, P = .0006). All but 1 recovered before discharge, and none had signs of worsening cardiac function post-IVIG. In those who recovered, NT-proBNP had normalized by discharge or 1-week follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that NT-proBNP levels often transiently increase immediately after IVIG therapy without signs of worsening myocardial function. These values should be interpreted in the context of CRP levels and clinical recovery.

Objective: Bleeding is a common complication of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), leading to increased mortality. Since one of its main complications is bleeding, platelet transfusions are frequently prescribed for children on ECMO. However, there is currently very little information on the effect of platelet transfusions on the function of the ECMO oxygenator. Our objective was to describe the effect of platelet transfusions on oxygenator function. Methods: In this retrospective study, we included all children (<18 years) who received ECMO support in our pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) between January 2017 and December 2019. Oxygenator function, measured before and after platelet transfusion, was assessed by post-oxygenator P ECMO O2 and the gradient in pre- post-oxygenator pressures (Delta Pressure). Results: Over 3 years, we analyzed 235 platelet transfusions from 55 children who received ECMO support. Thirty-two (80%) of children were on veno-arterial ECMO and majority of them were peripherally cannulated. When looking at all transfusions, the post-transfusion change in delta-pressure was 0.1 mmHg (p = 0.69) and post-membrane P ECMO O2 was 6 mmHg (p = 0.49). However, in the subgroup with the lowest quartile of pre-transfusion oxygenator function, the post-transfusion change in delta-pressure was -5.2 ± 2.7 mmHg (p < 0.001) and the post-transfusion change in P ECMO O2 was -118 ± 49 (p < 0.001). The area under the ROC curve for the pre-transfusion delta-pressure and P ECMO O2 to predict a worsening of the oxygenator function were 0.72 (95%CI 0.63-0.81) and 0.71 (95%CI 0.64-0.78), respectively. Using regression models, pre-transfusion delta-pressure and P ECMO O2 were the only independent factors associated with oxygenator function worsening (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Our study suggests that overall, platelet transfusions do not seem to impact the ECMO oxygenator's function. However, in the subgroup of patients with the lowest pre-transfusion oxygenator function, platelet transfusions were independently associated with a worsening function. Future studies should investigate if this warrants adjustments of the anticoagulation strategy around the platelet transfusion, especially among patients with lower oxygenator function.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)-related hemolysis is common with reported incidence of 5%-18%. Plasma free hemoglobin (PFH) levels are used as a marker for hemolysis and elevated PFH is associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Limited literature exists regarding treatment of severe hemolysis and clearance of PFH. We report 8-year-old male child on VA ECMO with severe hemolysis (PFH 895 mg/dL) and worsening AKI showing significant improvement in PFH after single volume exchange plasmapheresis with Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP) performed in tandem via ECMO circuit.

In patients with pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS) and hemodynamic compromise who need venoarterial (VA) extracorporeal life support (ECLS), we have adopted a strategy to promote early VA-to-venovenous (VV) conversion since 2018. A single-center retrospective review was performed of all 22 patients who underwent ECLS for PARDS from 2008 to 2019. Variables were analyzed to determine factors affecting initial cannulation mode and in-hospital mortality. Outcomes were compared between before and after 2018. Of the 22 patients, 9 patients underwent initial VA-support. Small patient size and severe cardiopulmonary compromise prior to ECLS favored initial VA- over VV-support. Lactate level and vasoactive inotrope score at 24 hours post-ECLS initiation predicted in-hospital mortality. After 2018, all five patients with initial VA-support were converted to VV-support at 4.4 ± 1.3 days post-ECLS initiation without complications. In-hospital mortality decreased after 2018 (3/9) compared with before (10/13) (p = 0.041) despite longer ECLS run time (723.4 ± 384.2 vs 286.5 ± 235.1 hours, p = 0.003). The number of ECLS-related complications per ECLS 1000 run hours decreased after 2018 (7.2 ± 4.2 vs 46.9 ± 66.5, p = 0.063). Our strategy to promote early VA-to-VV conversion may be worth further evaluation in larger cohort studies.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the performance of risk assessment models that were developed for adults, in predicting venous thromboembolism (VTE) and bleeding in critically ill adolescents. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adolescents 12 to 17 years old admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit who received cardiopulmonary support but did not have VTE on admission nor received anticoagulation. Discrimination, using areas under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) and precision-recall (AUPRC) curves, and calibration, using Hosmer-Lemeshow test, of the Geneva, Padua, IMPROVE VTE and IMPROVE Bleed models were calculated. RESULTS: Of 536 adolescents analyzed, 7 (1.3%) developed VTE and 13 (2.4%) bled. AUROCs of the Geneva, Padua and IMPROVE VTE models ranged from 0.46 to 0.59, with 95% confidence intervals (CI) including 0.5. AUPRCs ranged from 0.011 to 0.017, with 95% CIs including 0.013. Only IMPROVE VTE model had non-statistically significant Hosmer-Lemeshow test. IMPROVE Bleed model had AUROC and AUPRC of 0.75 and 0.062, with 95% CIs excluding 0.5 and 0.024, respectively. Hosmer-Lemeshow test was not statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Despite similarities in coagulation between adolescents and adults, risk assessment models for VTE in adults should not be used for critically ill adolescents. The model for bleeding may be useful.

Oxygenator thrombosis during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), is a complication that necessitates component replacement. ECMO centers monitor clot burden by intermittent measurement of pressure drop across the oxygenator. An increase in pressure drop at a preset flow rate suggests an increase in resistance/clot formation within the oxygenator. This monitoring method comes with inherent disadvantages such as monitoring gaps, and increased risk of air embolism and infection. We explored utilizing flow measurement, which avoids such risks, as an indicator of ECMO circuit obstructions. The hypothesis that flow rate through a shunt tube in the circuit will increase as distal resistances in the circuit increases was tested. We experimentally simulated controlled levels of oxygenator obstructions using glass microspheres in an ex vivo veno-venous ECMO circuit and measured the change in shunt flow rate using over the tube ultra-sound flow probes. A mathematical model was also used to study the effect of distal resistances in the ECMO circuit on shunt flow. Results of both the mathematical model and the experiments showed a clear and measurable increase in shunt flow with increasing levels of oxygenator obstruction. Therefore, flow monitoring appears to be an effective non-contact and continuous method to monitor for obstruction during ECMO.

RESUMO

Infantile scimitar syndrome is associated with pulmonary hypertension which can be difficult to manage. We present a three-month-old infant with scimitar syndrome, who eventually developed refractory pulmonary hypertension, posing a significant management challenge. Further workup demonstrated contralateral pulmonary vein stenosis, which is rarely described in scimitar syndrome. Our index case highlights the importance of follow-up cardiac catheterizations in these patients with severe pulmonary hypertension.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to describe characteristics and operative outcomes from a multicenter cohort of infants who underwent repair of anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery. We also aimed to identify factors associated with major adverse cardiovascular events following anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery repair. DESIGN: Retrospective chart review. SETTING: Twenty-one tertiary-care referral centers. PATIENTS: Infants less than 365 days old who underwent anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery repair. INTERVENTIONS: None. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Major adverse cardiovascular events were defined as the occurrence of postoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, left ventricular assist device, heart transplantation, or operative mortality. Factors independently associated with major adverse cardiovascular events were identified using multivariable logistic regression analysis. We reviewed 177 infants (< 365 d old) who underwent anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery repair between January 2009 and March 2018. Major adverse cardiovascular events occurred in 36 patients (20%). Twenty-nine patients (16%) received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, 14 (8%) received cardiopulmonary resuscitation, four (2%) underwent left ventricular assist device placement, two (1%) underwent heart transplantation, and six (3.4%) suffered operative mortality. In multivariable analysis, preoperative inotropic support (odds ratio, 3.5; 95% CI, 1.4-8.5), cardiopulmonary bypass duration greater than 150 minutes (odds ratio, 6.9 min; 95% CI, 2.9-16.7 min), and preoperative creatinine greater than 0.3 mg/dL (odds ratio, 2.4 mg/dL; 95% CI, 1.1-5.6 mg/dL) were independently associated with major adverse cardiovascular events. In patients with preoperative left ventricular end-diastolic diameter measurements available (n = 116), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter z score greater than 6 was also independently associated with major adverse cardiovascular events (odds ratio, 7.6; 95% CI, 2.0-28.6). CONCLUSIONS: In this contemporary multicenter analysis, one in five children who underwent surgical repair of anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery experienced major adverse cardiovascular events. Preoperative characteristics such as inotropic support, creatinine, and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter z score should be considered when planning for potential postoperative complications.

RESUMO

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) represent mesenchymal tumors that occur in the lungs, abdomen, or pelvis. Cardiac IMTs are rare, usually right-sided, and when left-sided can cause sudden cardiac death by coronary occlusion. We report a child with symptoms of embolization to the right kidney and the femoral artery, and a mobile mass in the left atrium attached to the mitral valve. Upon surgical removal, histopathology revealed IMT. Our case illustrates a unique presentation of systemic thromboembolism.

INTRODUCTION: We sought to investigate the predictors of catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) in a cohort of critically ill hospitalized infants and using a novel approach (the artificial neural network - ANN) in combination with conventional statistics to identify/confirm those predictors. METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of all infants with a central or peripherally inserted central venous catheter (CVC/PICC) between 2015 and 2018. ANN was generated to investigate the predictors of CRT. The predictive variables examined in the ANN were age, gender, weight, co-morbid conditions, line type, use of ultrasound (USG), emergent line placement, location of line tip, any major surgical procedures, use of mechanical ventilation, exposure to cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB), past-history of CVC/PICC, or thrombosis. Binary logistic regression was performed to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and determine which factors were significant in predicting CRT. RESULTS: Of total of 613 infants, 59.9% of patients had a history of previous CVC or PICC and 12.2% had a history of thrombus as documented by USG in the past three months. CPB exposure was present in 48.1%. The incidence of CRT was 10.7%. Independent predictors of CRT were the line tip in IVC (OR: 2.37, 1.08-5.21, P = 0.032), history of thrombosis (OR: 2.40, 1.16-4.96, P = 0.019), previous CVC/PICC (OR: 2.80, 1.24-6.33, P = 0.014) and exposure to CPB (OR: 2.749, 1.08-6.98, P = 0.034). A sensitivity analysis was performed to determine the normalized importance of each variable used to create the ANN. The most important variables were age (with normalized importance of 100%), history of thrombosis, weight, and exposure to CPB (normalized importance of 68.2%). CONCLUSIONS: Nearly 1 in 10 infants developed CRT. We found that catheter tip in IVC, exposure to CPB, history of vein thrombosis and history of CVC/PICC placement in the past 3 months are independently associated with a higher risk of CRT in infants by using conventional and neural network methods.
