[Neoadjuvant therapy of breast cancer using Newcastle disease virus].

The role of Newcastle disease virus and neoadjuvant therapy was assessed in 84 cases of breast cancer T1-4N0-2M0 (2005-2008). Combined use of the virus vaccine and chemotherapy (group A), therapy with the vaccine alone (group B) and chemotherapy regimen identical with that used in group A (group C) were compared. Histological pattern of tumor and stage were identified using expression of receptors of steroid hormones, oncoproteins Her2/neu and p53 as well as proliferation activity (marker Ki-67) before and after therapy. It was shown that the efficiency and safety of Newcastle disease virus (apathogenic strain La-Sotha) met specific immuno- and neoadjuvant therapy standards.

The data on 25 cases of histologically verified bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and papillary adenocarcinoma are discussed. Reliable differential diagnostic cytological features of both diseases were established using a statistical, program and fine-needle biopsy findings. Statistical analysis data pointed to the sets of cytological features: "serial pattern--clear cell boundaries" and "serial pattern--presence of macrovacuoles" as a major factor of accuracy of bronchiolo-alveolar carcinoma and papillary adenocarcinoma diagnosis. These cytological features may be used for reliable diagnosis of the diseases.

A case of a rare malignant tumour of the sweat glands is reported. Such tumors are often taken for visceral adenocarcinoma metastasis. The tumor was diagnosed by means of immunohistochemistry.

Cytological differential diagnostic features of bronchiolo-alveolar carcinoma and papillary adenocarcinoma are established basing on the material of needle biopsies by means of Statistica program. It is found that the strongest influence on the cytological diagnosis of these two tumors is associated with the following pairs of cytological features: lane--clear-cut cell borders and lane--the presence of macrovacuoles.

One case of a rare vascular tumor which occurs mainly in the childhood is presented. The tumor has a tendency to recurrence and metastases into the regional lymph nodes in spite of a relatively mature structure.

This review concerns the development and progression of one of the forms of peripheral lung cancer--bronchiolo-alveolar carcinoma (BAC). The study is based on the comparison of roentgenological, histological, immunohistochemical examinations and results of surgical treatment of 482 patients with this tumor. Morphological and clinical variants of BAC are defined. It is confirmed that their biological behavior may vary within the forms and differ from common adenocarcinoma. A close correlation exists between clinicoroentgenological picture and histological form of BAC.

[Atypical adenomatous hyperplasia of the lung]. / Atipichnaia adenomatoznaia giperplaziia legkikh.

Clinicomorphological analysis was performed in 12 cases of atypical adenomatous hyperplasia of the lung (AAH). This is the proliferative lesion consisting of atypical epithelial cells along the alveolar septa which are found incidentally during pathologic examination of the lung resected because of cancer. We studied morphological and biological characteristics of AAH cells including cytodifferentiation, proliferative activity, tumor-suppressor genes. Our review of the studies of AAH revealed that AAH is alveolar intraepithelial dysplasia and a precursor of lung adenocarcinoma. AAH is an important lesion corresponding to a step in carcinogenesis for peripheral lung adenocarcinomas.

A case of chronic granulomatosis is reported. Its clinical manifestations were affection of the urinary tract with pseudotumors of the urinary bladder and ureteral obstruction. Recommendations for treatment of similar diseases are presented.

Benign epithelial tumor of the skin--eccrine spiradenoma--is characterized in detail clinically and morphologically.

4 cases of melanoma of the respiratory tract (trachea and bronchi) are analysed clinico-morphologically. A case of melanoma with a primary multiple location (trachea and the main bronchus), rapid recurrence after surgery and radiation therapy is described in detail. Melanocytic nature of the tumor is proved immunohistochemically.

[Radiation pathomorphism after a single large-fractionated preoperative irradiation of rectal cancer (electron microscopic study)]. / Luchevoi patomofoz pri odnokratnom krupnofraktsionnom predoperatsionnom obluchenii raka priamoi kishki (élektronno-mikroskopicheskoe issledovanie).

Results of combined treatment of 113 patients with colon carcinoma receiving a single irradiation (7.5 Gy) before the operation were analysed. The single irradiation was well tolerated by all the patients without complications during the operation and in the postoperative period. It is found at the ultrastructural level that from 70 to 85% of the cells in the tumors removed were irreversibly damaged.

Morphology of the thymus in autoimmune and some other conditions with an accidental thymus involution is studied. Metaplasia and dysplasia of epithelial cells which should be regarded as precancer condition were found in 7-10% of cases in the parenchyma in the presence of atrophic changes.
