RESUMO

Retrosynthesis is vital in synthesizing target products, guiding reaction pathway design crucial for drug and material discovery. Current models often neglect multi-scale feature extraction, limiting efficacy in leveraging molecular descriptors. Our proposed SB-Net model, a deep-learning architecture tailored for retrosynthesis prediction, addresses this gap. SB-Net combines CNN and Bi-LSTM architectures, excelling in capturing multi-scale molecular features. It integrates parallel branches for processing one-hot encoded descriptors and ECFP, merging through dense layers. Experimental results demonstrate SB-Net's superiority, achieving 73.6 % top-1 and 94.6 % top-10 accuracy on USPTO-50k data. Versatility is validated on MetaNetX, with rates of 52.8 % top-1, 74.3 % top-3, 79.8 % top-5, and 83.5 % top-10. SB-Net's success in bioretrosynthesis prediction tasks indicates its efficacy. This research advances computational chemistry, offering a robust deep-learning model for retrosynthesis prediction. With implications for drug discovery and synthesis planning, SB-Net promises innovative and efficient pathways.

In plants, nitric oxide (NO) has become a versatile signaling molecule essential for mediating a wide range of physiological processes under various biotic and abiotic stress conditions. The fundamental function of NO under various stress scenarios has led to a paradigm shift in which NO is now seen as both a free radical liberated from the toxic product of oxidative metabolism and an agent that aids in plant sustenance. Numerous studies on NO biology have shown that NO is an important signal for germination, leaf senescence, photosynthesis, plant growth, pollen growth, and other processes. It is implicated in defense responses against pathogensas well as adaptation of plants in response to environmental cues like salinity, drought, and temperature extremes which demonstrates its multifaceted role. NO can carry out its biological action in a variety of ways, including interaction with protein kinases, modifying gene expression, and releasing secondary messengers. In addition to these signaling events, NO may also be in charge of the chromatin modifications, nitration, and S-nitrosylation-induced posttranslational modifications (PTM) of target proteins. Deciphering the molecular mechanism behind its essential function is essential to unravel the regulatory networks controlling the responses of plants to various environmental stimuli. Taking into consideration the versatile role of NO, an effort has been made to interpret its mode of action based on the post-translational modifications and to cover shreds of evidence for increased growth parameters along with an altered gene expression.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Sarcopenia in cirrhosis is associated with poor survival and adverse pre and post-transplant outcomes. The study aimed at determining the prevalence of sarcopenia and its association with the severity, complications and etiology of liver disease. METHODS: As many as 416 cirrhotic patients who met the inclusion criteria underwent muscle strength testing using a dynamometer. As many as 109 probable sarcopenia patients underwent computed tomography (CT) scan to measure skeletal muscle index (SMI) at the L3 vertebral level and gait-speed testing. The gender-specific cut-offs used to define sarcopenia were an SMI of 36.54 cm2/m2 in males and 30.21 cm2/m2 in females. A gait speed ≤ 0.8 m/s was taken as a cut-off to define severe sarcopenia in both genders. RESULTS: The mean age was 54.7 ± 9.51 years and male:female ratio was 2.2:1.The mean body mass index (BMI) was 24.2 ± 1.34 kg/m2. Alcohol and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) were the two most common etiologies (45.9% and 31.2%). The proportion of patients belonging to Child-Pugh class A, B and C was 26.6%, 48.6% and 24.8%, respectively. Forty out of 109 (36.7%) patients had a model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) > 14. Ascites, upper gastrointestinal bleeding and hepatic encephalopathy (HE) were present in 59 (54.1%), 60 (55.0%) and 24 (22.0%) patients, respectively. The prevalence of probable sarcopenia, sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia was found to be 26.20%, 10.09% and 6.73%, respectively. Sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia were associated with Child-Pugh class (p < 0.001, p < 0.001), MELD (p = 0.007, 0.002), upper gastrointestinal bleed (p = 0.007, 0.004), ascites (p = 0.038, 0.025) and HE (0.001, < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia was found to be 10.09% and 6.73%, respectively. Sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia had a significant association with the severity and complications of cirrhosis. However, no association was observed with etiology of liver disease.

BACKGROUND: With only one 15 mg primaquine tablet registered by a stringent regulatory authority and marketed, more quality-assured primaquine is needed to meet the demands of malaria elimination. METHODS: A classic, two sequence, crossover study, with a 10-day wash out period, of 15 mg of IPCA-produced test primaquine tablets and 15 mg of Sanofi reference primaquine tablets was conducted. Healthy volunteers, aged 18-45 years, without glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, a baseline haemoglobin ≥ 11 g/dL, creatinine clearance ≥ 70 mL/min/1.73 ms, and body mass index of 18.5-30 kg/m2 were randomized to either test or reference primaquine, administered on an empty stomach with 240 mL of water. Plasma primaquine and carboxyprimaquine concentrations were measured at baseline, then 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, 2.333, 2.667, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0, 12.0, 16.0, 24.0, 36.0, 48.0 and 72.0 h by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Primaquine pharmacokinetic profiles were evaluated by non-compartmental analysis and bioequivalence concluded if the 90% confidence intervals (CI) of geometric mean (GM) ratios of test vs. reference formulation for the peak concentrations (Cmax) and area under the drug concentration-time (AUC0-t) were within 80.00 to 125.00%. RESULTS: 47 of 50 volunteers, median age 33 years, completed both dosing rounds and were included in the bioequivalence analysis. For primaquine, GM Cmax values for test and reference formulations were 62.12 vs. 59.63 ng/mL, resulting in a GM ratio (90% CI) of 104.17% (96.92-111.96%); the corresponding GM AUC0-t values were 596.56 vs. 564.09 ngxh/mL, for a GM ratio of 105.76% (99.76-112.08%). Intra-subject coefficient of variation was 20.99% for Cmax and 16.83% for AUC0-t. Median clearances and volumes of distribution were similar between the test and reference products: 24.6 vs. 25.2 L/h, 189.4 vs. 191.0 L, whilst the median half-lives were the same, 5.2 h. CONCLUSION: IPCA primaquine was bioequivalent to the Sanofi primaquine. This opens the door to prequalification, registration in malaria endemic countries, and programmatic use for malaria elimination. In the present study, we have synthesized a zinc sulfide/chitosan (ZS/CS) nanocomposite by utilizing simple, economical, and environmentally friendly methods. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by different analytical techniques such as XRD, FE-SEM, EDS, and FTIR to determine the phase structure, morphology, and elemental composition. FTIR spectroscopy was used to confirm the functional groups of the synthesized zinc sulfide (ZS) nanoparticles and ZS/CS composite. Besides, the optical properties of the as-synthesized nanocomposite was analyzed by a UV-visible spectrophotometer, and the estimated band gap energy is ∼3.03 eV. The photocatalytic efficiency of the synthesized ZS/CS nanocomposite was investigated against two textile dyes, Crystal Violet (CV) and Acid Red-I (AR-I), under UV-visible light irradiation. The nanocomposite showed excellent photocatalytic activity against the dyes, and photodegradation was estimated to be about 93.44 and 90.67% for CV and AR-I, respectively. The nanocomposite was reused for three consecutive cycles. The results revealed that the photocatalyst displayed good reusability during the photocatalytic decomposition and thus is considered a cost-effective and promising photocatalyst in degrading dye pollutants. The kinetic study proved that the pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics was followed by the degradation process. We also examined the anticancer activity of ZS and ZS/CS against human breast and myelogenous leukemia cancer cell lines, namely, MCF-7 and K-562, and the half minimal inhibitory concentrations were found to be less than 50 µg/mL.

Microwave couplers are used in large numbers in beamforming networks, and their miniaturization can lead to a significant size reduction in the overall phased array. While the miniaturization of 3 dB couplers in the transverse direction (width) has been given considerable attention in the literature, there is minimal to no information on reducing coupler length. This is because of the trade-off between aperture length, bandwidth and coupling strength. The Bethe-Hole theory requires adding multiple apertures in the longitudinal direction for wide bandwidth, thus increasing the device length. Another factor is the aperture size, which determines the coupling strength and puts additional strain on the compactness of a 3 dB coupler. Contrariwise, this paper proposes to merge two weak (and hence compact) coupling mechanisms to design a wideband 3 dB coupler. This is achieved by using a longitudinal rectangular slot and three cross-slots in the transverse direction. Because of weak coupling, the slot sizes are smaller than a conventional 3 dB coupler, hence yielding a device whose length is less than one guided wavelength (λg) without compromising the bandwidth. The presented coupler is 0.63 λg in length, which is smaller than the state-of-the-art while maintaining a fractional bandwidth of 37% that is comparable to half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) couplers.

Liver diseases pose a significant global health burden, with limited therapeutic options for chronic cases. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanomaterials have emerged as promising candidates for hepatoprotection due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties. However, their potential remains hampered by insufficient drug loading and controlled release. The current study explores the intercalation of Naproxen (Nx), a potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug, within ZnO stacked nanosheets (SNSs) to address these limitations. Herein, an easy and solution-based synthesis of novel Nx intercalated ZnO SNSs was established. The obtained Nx intercalated ZnO SNSs were encapsulated with poly(vinyl acetate) (PVA) to make them biocompatible. The synthesized biocomposite was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), which confirm the successful synthesis and intercalation of Nx within the ZnO SNSs. The obtained outcomes showed that the configuration of ZnO nanosheets was altered when Nx was introduced, resulting in a more organized stacking pattern. An in vivo investigation of mice liver cells unveiled that the Nx intercalated ZnO SNss had increased hepatoprotective properties. The study's results provide valuable insights into using Nx intercalated ZnO SNss for targeted drug delivery and improved treatment effectiveness, particularly for liver-related illnesses.

The genus Bistorta comprises about 43 accepted species that are widely used by local people and medicinal practitioners for the treatment of rheumatism, tuberculosis, inflammation, respiratory infection, and other diseases. The objective of this review is to present up-to-date information from the scientific literature about the phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of Bistorta. At present, there is a lack of a comprehensive review that consolidates the various scientific studies conducted on the genus Bistorta. To address this knowledge gap, a global review has been compiled on the genus Bistorta, which emphasizes ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacology. To gather information about Bistorta, relevant keywords were used to search internet databases including Google scholar, PubMed, ResearchGate, Web of Science, Europe PMC, CNKI, and Wiley Online Library. Additionally, published books that provided an overview of existing literature studies were consulted for reference purposes. Chemical structures and formulas of compounds were verified using the PubChem database and drawn using Chem Draw Ultra 6.0. The scientific nomenclature utilized in this review follows The World Flora Online and The Plant of the World Online (PoWo). A comprehensive evaluation of literature sources revealed that the genus Bistorta has been recognized for its ethnomedical properties and has been used in traditional healthcare for several millennia. Chemical analysis has identified various compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids saponins, terpenes, sterols, and coumarins which have been shown to have significant pharmacological effects such as anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant anti-rheumatic and anti-microbial properties. The pharmacological research has only partially validated the traditional and local uses of Bistorta species. Further research is required to investigate the mechanisms of the plant's active compounds, as well as its potential therapeutic applications in treating conditions like diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, there is no clinical evidence to provide the health benefits of these plants. To confirm the pharmacological activities, clinical efficacy, and non-toxicity of Bistorta species, more comprehensive and systematic preclinical studies, and clinical trials are needed.

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum ) has gained more attention worldwide in recent decades because of its importance as a bioenergy resource and in producing table sugar. However, the production capabilities of conventional varieties are being challenged by the changing climates, which struggle to meet the escalating demands of the growing global population. Genome editing has emerged as a pivotal field that offers groundbreaking solutions in agriculture and beyond. It includes inserting, removing or replacing DNA in an organism's genome. Various approaches are employed to enhance crop yields and resilience in harsh climates. These techniques include zinc finger nuclease (ZFN), transcription activator-like effector nuclease (TALEN) and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/associated protein (CRISPR/Cas). Among these, CRISPR/Cas is one of the most promising and rapidly advancing fields. With the help of these techniques, several crops like rice (Oryza sativa ), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum ), maize (Zea mays ), barley (Hordeum vulgare ) and sugarcane have been improved to be resistant to viral diseases. This review describes recent advances in genome editing with a particular focus on sugarcane and focuses on the advantages and limitations of these approaches while also considering the regulatory and ethical implications across different countries. It also offers insights into future prospects and the application of these approaches in agriculture.

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are central in controlling immune responses, and dysregulation of their function can lead to autoimmune disorders or cancer. Despite extensive studies on Tregs, the basis of epigenetic regulation of human Treg development and function is incompletely understood. Long intergenic noncoding RNAs (lincRNA)s are important for shaping and maintaining the epigenetic landscape in different cell types. In this study, we identified a gene on the chromosome 6p25.3 locus, encoding a lincRNA, that was up-regulated during early differentiation of human Tregs. The lincRNA regulated the expression of interleukin-2 receptor alpha (IL2RA), and we named it the lincRNA regulator of IL2RA (LIRIL2R). Through transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics analysis of LIRIL2R-deficient Tregs, coupled with global profiling of LIRIL2R binding sites using chromatin isolation by RNA purification, followed by sequencing, we identified IL2RA as a target of LIRIL2R. This nuclear lincRNA binds upstream of the IL2RA locus and regulates its epigenetic landscape and transcription. CRISPR-mediated deletion of the LIRIL2R-bound region at the IL2RA locus resulted in reduced IL2RA expression. Notably, LIRIL2R deficiency led to reduced expression of Treg-signature genes (e.g., FOXP3, CTLA4, and PDCD1), upregulation of genes associated with effector T cells (e.g., SATB1 and GATA3), and loss of Treg-mediated suppression.

The previous studies have found an association between Big Five personality traits and postpartum depression in women. The present study aimed to find out an association between Big Five personality traits and postpartum depression in a sample of Pakistani fathers. A total of 400 Pakistani fathers who had birth of a child in the past 1 month to 1 year period and had been living with their married partners were recruited purposively by using Google Form based survey from the major cities of Pakistan. The Urdu translated versions of Big Five Personality Inventory (BFI) and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) were used as the main outcome measures to assess the relationship between personality traits and postpartum depression. The results found a significant negative and moderate association between Big Five personality traits and paternal postpartum depression except openness which had a weak association and neuroticism which had a positive and moderate association with PPPD (r(398) = .45). The multiple linear regression analysis found that Big Five personality traits significantly predicted paternal postpartum depression (F(5, 394) = 53.33, p = .001) except openness (B = .007, p = .98). The analysis of variance (ANOVA) found significant differences in paternal postpartum depression for age of father (F(2, 397) = 6.65, p = .001, ηp2 = .03), spouse age (F(2, 393) = 5.97, p = .003, ηp2 = .02), employment type (F(2, 395) = 9.69, p = .001, ηp2 = .04) and time spent at home (F(2, 397) = 6.23, p = .002, ηp2 = .03) while there were found no significant differences for education (F(2, 397) = 1.29, p = .27, ηp2 = .006), marital duration (F(2, 397) = 2.17, p = .11, ηp2 = .01), and birth number of recent child (F(2, 397) = 1.48, p = .22, ηp2 = .007). The study concluded that Big Five personality traits are significantly correlated with and predict paternal postpartum depression except openness which did not predict paternal postpartum depression. The occurrence of paternal postpartum depression varied significantly for age of father, age of spouse, type of employment and time spent at home.

Anthelmintic resistance in livestock animals has been spreading across the world in prevalence and severity. As a result, researchers are exploring alternative strategies to combat this issue, and one promising avenue is the utilization of medicinal plants. This study aims to investigate the anthelmintic efficacy of the crude ethanolic extract (CEE) derived from the leaves of Juglans regia against one of the most detrimental nematode parasites affecting poultry, namely Ascaridia galli (A. galli). For the in vitro studies, adult A. galli worms were collected from the naturally infected chickens and the efficacy of CEE was measured at the concentration of 25, 50, and 100 mg/ml using adult worm motility inhibition (WMI) assay. In addition, levamisole (0.55 mg/ml) was used as the positive control. Likewise, Phosphate buffered saline (PBS) was used as the negative control. For the in vivo studies, CEE of J.regia at the doses of 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg were evaluated in chickens experimentally infected with A. galli. The anthelmintic efficacy was monitored using faecal egg count reduction (FECR) and worm count reduction (WCR) assays. In vitro studies revealed significant (P < 0.001) anthelmintic effects of CEE of J.regia on the motility of A. galli worms at different hours post-exposure. At the concentration of 100 mg/ml, CEE resulted in 96.5% inhibition of worm motility at 24 h post-exposure. While the synthetic anthelmintic drug, levamisole caused the highest inhibition of worm motility (100%) at the same time period. The in vivo anthelmintic activity of CEE of J. regia demonstrated a maximum effect on day 14 post-treatment by inducing 67.28% FECR and 65.03% WCR. We observed no significant difference (P > 0.05) in worm counts between the negative control group and the chickens treated with CEE at the dosage of 500 mg/kg. Together, the results of the present study suggest that CEE of J. regia leaves possess anthelmintic properties and could be a potential source of novel anthelmintic compounds for controlling helminth parasites.

AIM OF THE STUDY: The growing resistance of helminth parasites to currently available commercial anthelmintic drugs, combined with apprehensions regarding detrimental chemical residues in livestock products, has sparked an interest in exploring medicinal plants as an alternative strategy for treating helminthiasis. As a result, this study was designed to investigate the anthelmintic activity of crude methanolic extracts (CME) of Saussurea costus root on Ascaridia.galli, a pathogenic nematode of poultry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In vitro, the anthelmintic effect of Saussurea costus root was evaluated in comparison to commercial anthelmintic, levamisole on the adult nematode parasites, A.galli using worm motility inhibition (WMI) test. The CME of S.costus was also evaluated for in vivo anthelmintic activity in chickens experimentally infected with Ascaridia galli. For the in vivo study, one hundred-day-old chickens were orally infected with embryonated eggs of A. galli worms. The efficacy of the plant extract as an anthelmintic was assessed through two tests: faecal egg count reduction (FECR) test and worm count reduction (WCR) test. The study investigated three distinct doses of plant extract under in vivo setup: 500 mg kg-1 body weight (bw), 1000 mg kg-1 bw, and 2000 mg kg-1 bw. RESULTS: In vitro, all the tested concentrations of S.costus (25 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, and 100 mg/ml) showed a significant (P < 0.001) anthelmintic effects on live adult A. galli worms in terms of inhibition of worm motility at different hours post-treatment. At the highest concentration of the extract, we observed worm motility inhibition of 100% at 24 h post-exposure. On day 14 post-treatment, all birds were slaughtered, and adult A. galli worms were subsequently retrieved from their small intestines. Birds treated with CME extract of S. costus root exhibited a significant (P < 0.001) reduction in faecal egg count. However, the administration of the extract at the dosage of 500 mg kg-1bw to the birds did not reveal any significant (P > 0.05) differences in the worm count compared to the negative control group. The CME of S. costus at a dose of 2000 mg kg-1bw showed the highest anthelmintic activity by inducing 83.10% FECR and 76.47% WCR. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the root extract of S. costus has a promising anthelmintic activity on A. galli as demonstrated by the results of the present experiment.

Angiolipomas are rare, benign tumors characterized by a mixture of adipose tissue and blood vessels, distinguishing them from lipomas. This case involves a 52-year-old woman with no significant medical history who presented with generalized weakness, fatigue, and intermittent, painless rectal bleeding over six months, initially dismissed as hemorrhoidal. Despite exhibiting mild pallor and trace rectal bleeding upon examination, significant iron-deficiency anemia was diagnosed through laboratory tests. Incorporating colonoscopy and computed tomography, the diagnostic process identified a 2 cm submucosal lesion in the ascending colon, characterized as a well-defined, fat-density mass. Histopathological analysis following surgical resection confirmed the diagnosis of a colonic angiolipoma. The patient's recovery, marked by the resolution of symptoms and normalization of hemoglobin levels, underscores the effectiveness of surgical treatment. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by colonic angiolipomas due to their nonspecific symptoms. It emphasizes the importance of considering such rare entities in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal symptoms. This approach facilitates prompt and appropriate treatment, enriching the limited literature and advocating for clinical vigilance and interdisciplinary diagnostic strategies.

Fish health management is critical to aquaculture and fisheries as it directly affects sustainability and productivity. Fish disease diagnosis has taken a massive stride because of advances in immunological and molecular diagnostic tools which provide a sensitive, quick, and accurate means of identifying diseases. This review presents an overview of the main molecular and immunological diagnostic methods for determining the health of fish. The immunological techniques help to diagnose different fish diseases by detecting specific antigens and antibodies. The application of immunological techniques to vaccine development is also examined in this review. The genetic identification of pathogens is made possible by molecular diagnostic techniques that enable the precise identification of bacterial, viral, and parasitic organisms in addition to evaluating host reactions and genetic variation associated with resistance to disease. The combination of molecular and immunological methods has resulted in the creation of novel techniques for thorough evaluation of fish health. These developments improve treatment measures, pathogen identification and provide new information about the variables affecting fish health, such as genetic predispositions and environmental stresses. In the framework of sustainable fish farming and fisheries management, this paper focuses on the importance of these diagnostic techniques that play a crucial role in protecting fish populations and the aquatic habitats. This review also examines the present and potential future directions in immunological and molecular diagnostic techniques in fish health.

The Editors-in-Chief have retracted the article titled "[Neuroprotection against Aluminum Chloride-Induced Hippocampus Damage in Albino Wistar Rats by Leucophyllum frutescens (Berl.) I.M. Johnst. Leaf Extracts: A Detailed Insight into Phytochemical Analysis and Antioxidant and Enzyme Inhibition Assays]" ([1]) due to significant concerns regarding the reliability and integrity of the data presented. After the publication of the article, several issues were brought to our attention regarding the originality and authenticity of the visual data within the manuscript. Specifically, Figure 4 of the article contains images that are identical to those in the previously published papers [2, 3]. This duplication of images raises serious questions about the validity of the results and the adherence to ethical standards of research. Despite multiple attempts to contact the authors for an explanation and an opportunity to address these concerns, no satisfactory response was provided. Given the lack of accountability and the serious nature of the academic misconduct implied, the Editor-in-Chief, after careful consideration and in accordance with the publication's ethical guidelines, has decided to retract the article.

Silver infused ultrathin TiO2 nanowires (NWs) were synthesized via a single step solvothermal approach. The crystallinity, structure, and morphology were determined to understand the physicochemical nature of the nanocomposites. The catalytic efficiency of the newly synthesized nanocatalysts was tested for the textile waste treatment taking methylene blue (MB) as model pollutant under solar light irradiations. Nearly 96% photodegradation efficiency for MB was achieved within 20 min. Furthermore, the recyclability of the photocatalyst was also studied, and the material remained stable and effective up to four consecutive runs. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Precise size-controlled synthesis of Ag-incorporated titania nanowires (ATNWs) Controlled aspect ratios, with tunable lengths and diameters (100-3 nm) via precursor and surfactant optimization Demonstrated ATNWs' efficiency in degrading toxic dye, methylene blue (MB) 96% photodegradation efficiency for MB achieved within 20 min using 3 nm thick annealed TiO2 NWs Recyclability efficiency of photocatalyst, which remained stable and effective for up to four consecutive runs.

RESUMO

COVID-19, stemming from SARS-CoV-2, poses a formidable threat to global healthcare, with a staggering 77 million confirmed cases and 690,067 deaths recorded till December 24, 2023. Given the absence of specific drugs for this viral infection, the exploration of novel antiviral compounds becomes imperative. High-throughput technologies are actively engaged in drug discovery, and there is a parallel effort to repurpose plant-based molecules with established antiviral properties. In this context, the review meticulously delves into the potential of plant-based folk remedies and existing molecules. These substances have showcased substantial viral inhibition in diverse in vivo, in silico, and in vitro studies, particularly against critical viral protein targets, including SARS-CoV-2. The findings position these plant-based molecules as promising antiviral drug candidates for the swift advancement of treatments for COVID-19. It is noteworthy that the inherent attributes of these plant-based molecules, such as their natural origin, potency, safety, and cost-effectiveness, contribute to their appeal as lead candidates. The review advocates for further exploration through comprehensive in vivo studies conducted on animal models, emphasizing the potential of plant-based compounds to help in the ongoing quest to develop effective antivirals against COVID-19.
