RESUMO

We present the case of a 16-year-old boy with Peutz-Jeghers disease with successful treatment of oral lentiginosis with one session of picosecond 755-nm alexandrite laser. To date, only in one other article picosecond laser is used for lentiginosis in Peutz-Jeghers disease. Other therapeutical options include Q-switched 755-nm alexandrite, 1064-nm Nd:YAG, 532-nm KTP-laser, ruby and intense pulsed light, which generally require more sessions, are less pigment-selective and have overall worse results than picosecond laser treatment.

RESUMO

The use of laser applications in urology has undergone significant advances and is now used in a wide variety of procedures. Improvements in types of lasers, the wavelength of energy used, optical fiber delivery systems, precision of laser applications and cost reduction have served to further improve laser technology and extend the potential applications. The different types of lasers available at the present time appear to be an alternative treatment modality with excellent cosmetic and functional results and low morbidity in the treatment of benign, pre-malignant and malignant lesions in the genital area. The objective of this article is to provide an update on the most important clinical and experimental advancements therapeutic applications of lasers in genital lesions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: We intended to analyze the influence of Helicobacter pylori eradication on the clinical evolution of patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria. PATIENTS AND METHOD: The evolution of dermatological symptoms after eradication was studied in a group of 55 patients previously diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria who were infected by Helicobacter pylori. RESULTS: There was a partial or complete improvement in 74.6% (CI 95%, 61-85%) of studied patients. We could not demonstrate a statistically significant influence of sex, age or endoscopic lesions on the clinical evolution of urticaria after eradication. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest a possible usefulness of Helicobacter pylori eradication in some patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria. Controlled and randomized studies are necessary to confirm it.
