RESUMO

An exciting prospect in the field of magnetic fluid hyperthermia (MFH) has been the integration of noble rare earth elements (Eu) with biopolymers (chitosan/dextran) that have optimum structures to tune specific effects on magnetic nanoparticles (NPs). However, the heating efficiency of MNPs is primarily influenced by their magnetization, size distribution, magnetic anisotropy, dipolar interaction, amplitude, and frequency of the applied field, the MNPs with high heating efficiency are still challenging. In this study, a comprehensive experimental analysis has been conducted on single-domain magnetic nanoparticles (SDMNPs) for evaluating effective anisotropy, assessing the impact of particle-intrinsic factors and experimental conditions on self-heating efficiency in both noninteracting and interacting systems, with a particular focus on the dipolar interaction effect. The study successfully reconciles conflicting findings on the interaction effects in the agglomeration and less agglomerated arrangements for MFH applications. The results suggest that effective control of dipolar interactions can be achieved by encapsulating Chitosan/Dextran in the synthesized MNPs. The lower dipolar interactions successfully tune the self-heating efficiency and hold promise as potential candidates for MFH applications.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Kidney disease is common after pediatric heart transplantation. Serum creatinine-based glomerular filtration rate is the most frequently reported measure of kidney function. Albuminuria is an additional marker of kidney dysfunction and is not well described in this population. In this study, we evaluate the prevalence and degree of albuminuria and describe clinical factors associated with albuminuria in a cohort of pediatric heart transplant recipients. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of pediatric heart transplant recipients. Albuminuria was assessed using spot urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio collected at the most recent annual screening cardiac catheterization through August 2019. RESULTS: In 115 patients at a median duration of 10.2 years post-transplant, 39% had albuminuria. Stage 3 or greater chronic kidney disease was present in 6%. The immunosuppressive regimen at the time of measurement contained a calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) in 88% and a proliferation signal inhibitor (PSI) in 62%. In multivariable modeling, lower eGFR, PSI use, and younger age at transplant were associated with higher levels of albuminuria, whereas CNI use was associated with lower levels of albuminuria. CONCLUSION: Albuminuria is a prevalent finding in medium-term follow up of pediatric heart transplant recipients, reflecting kidney injury, and is associated with other markers of kidney dysfunction, such as low eGFR. Younger age at transplant, lower eGFR, and PSI use were among the associations with albuminuria.

RESUMO

To maximize heat release from immobilized nanoparticles (NPs), a detailed understanding of the controlled dipolar interaction is essential for challenging magnetic hyperthermia (MH) therapies. To design optimal MH experiments, it is necessary to precisely determine magnetic states impacted by the inevitable concurrence of magnetic interactions under a common experimental form. In this work, we describe how the presence of dipolar interaction significantly alters the heating mechanism of host materials when NPs are embedded in them for MH applications. The concentration of the NPs and the intensity of their interaction can profoundly impact the amplitude and shape of the heating curves of the host material. The heating capability of interacting NPs might be enhanced or diminished, depending on their concentration within the host material. We propose chitosan- and dextran-coated Gd-doped Fe3O4 NPs directing dipole interactions effective for the linear regime to enlighten the pragmatic trends. The outcomes of our study may have substantial implications for cancer therapy and could inspire novel approaches for maximizing the effectiveness of MH.

RESUMO

An exciting prospect in the field of magnetic fluid hyperthermia (MFH) has been the integration of noble rare earth elements with biopolymers (chitosan/dextran) that have optimum structures to tune specific effects on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Remarkably, it has been demonstrated that dipole-dipole interactions have a significant influence on nanoparticle dynamics. In this article, we present an exhaustive scrutiny of dipolar interactions and how this affects the efficiency of MFH applications. In particular, we prepare chitosan and dextran-coated Tb-doped MNPs and study whether it is possible to increase the heat released by controlling the dipole-dipole interactions. It has been indicated that even moderate control of agglomeration may substantially impact the structure and magnetization dynamics of the system. Besides estimating the specific loss power value, our findings provide a deep insight into the relaxation mechanisms and bring to light how to tune the self-heating efficacy towards magnetic hyperthermia.

RESUMO

Aspirin (ASA) remains the most common antiplatelet agent used in children. VerifyNow Aspirin Test® (VN) assesses platelet response to ASA, with therapeutic effect defined by the manufacturer as ≤ 549 aspirin reaction units (ARU). Single-center, observational, analysis of 195 children (< 18 years-old) who underwent first VN between 2015 and 2020. Primary outcome was proportion of patients with ASA biochemical resistance (> 549 ARU). Secondary outcomes included incidence of new clinical thrombotic and bleeding events during ≤ 6 months from VN in those who received ASA monotherapy (n = 113). Median age was 1.8 years. Common indications for ASA included cardiac anomalies or dysfunction (74.8%) and ischemic stroke (22.6%). Median ASA dose before VN was 4.6 mg/kg/day. Mean VN was 471 ARU. ASA biochemical resistance was detected in 14.4% (n = 28). Of 113 patients receiving ASA monotherapy, 14 (12.4%) had a thrombotic event and 2 (1.8%) had a bleeding event. Mean VN was significantly higher at initial testing in patients experiencing thrombotic event compared to those without thrombosis (516 vs 465 ARU, [95% CI: 9.8, 92.2], p = 0.02). Multivariable analysis identified initial VN ASA result ≥ 500 ARU at initial testing as the only significant independent risk factor for thrombosis (p < 0.01). VN testing identifies ASA biochemical resistance in 14.4% of children. VN ASA ≥ 500 ARU rather than ≥ 550 ARU at initial testing was independently associated with increased odds of thrombosis. Designated cut-off of 550 ARU for detecting platelet dysfunction by ASA may need reconsideration in children.

RESUMO

In this study, we delve into the intricate interplay between the anisotropy energy barrier and the self-heating efficiency of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). We embarked on this exploration by synthesizing Cu1-xCoxFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5) MNPs using a straightforward coprecipitation method. Our magnetic assessments, conducted at different temperatures, unveiled a notable trend as we traversed from x = 0.1 to x = 0.5. Specifically, we observed a consistent increase in saturation magnetization, coercivity, and remanence. This pattern also extended to the anisotropy energy barrier, which was derived from the effective anisotropy constant determined through the temperature dependency of the coercivity method. However, an intriguing twist emerged when we scrutinized the specific absorption rate (SAR), calculated via the Box-Lucas method. Contrary to much of the existing literature, our experimental results showcased a decline in SAR concerning x. This experimental work challenges the conventional understanding of the relationship between the anisotropy energy barrier and the SAR value of these nanoparticles. This study prompts us to reconsider the intricate mechanisms governing the relaxation of magnetic moments and subsequent heat release when subjected to an alternating magnetic field. By doing so, we aim to gain fresh insights into the self-heating properties of MNPs and optimize their utilization to better understand their heat-release properties and ensure that they are used as efficiently as possible in a variety of biomedical applications.

RESUMO

The first simultaneous determination of the absolute value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V_{ub} using inclusive and exclusive decays is performed with the full Belle data set at the ϒ(4S) resonance, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb^{-1}. We analyze collision events in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in hadronic modes. This allows for the reconstruction of the hadronic X_{u} system of the semileptonic b→uℓν[over ¯]_{ℓ} decay. We separate exclusive B→πℓν[over ¯]_{ℓ} decays from other inclusive B→X_{u}ℓν[over ¯]_{ℓ} and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit that utilizes the number of charged pions in the X_{u} system and the four-momentum transfer q^{2} between the B and X_{u} systems. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the B→πℓν[over ¯]_{ℓ} form factor, we determine |V_{ub}^{excl}|=(3.78±0.23±0.16±0.14)×10^{-3} and |V_{ub}^{incl}|=(3.88±0.20±0.31±0.09)×10^{-3}, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of |V_{ub}^{excl}|/|V_{ub}^{incl}|=0.97±0.12 is compatible with unity.

RESUMO

We report on a search for a heavy Majorana neutrino in the decays τ^{-}→π^{-}ν_{h}, ν_{h}→π^{±}ℓ^{∓}, ℓ=e, µ. The results are obtained using the full data sample of 988 fb^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^{+}e^{-} collider, which contains 912×10^{6} ττ pairs. We observe no significant signal and set 95% CL upper limits on the couplings of the heavy right-handed neutrinos to the conventional standard model left-handed neutrinos in the mass range 0.2-1.6 GeV/c^{2}. This is the first study of a mixed couplings of heavy neutrinos to τ leptons and light-flavor leptons.

RESUMO

We present the first comprehensive tests of the universality of the light leptons in the angular distributions of semileptonic B^{0}-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral B is fully reconstructed in ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decays in data corresponding to 189 fb^{-1} integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.

RESUMO

We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into τ pairs in e^{+}e^{-}→µ^{+}µ^{-}τ^{+}τ^{-} events in the 3.6-10 GeV/c^{2} mass range. We use a 62.8 fb^{-1} sample of e^{+}e^{-} collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into τ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5 GeV/c^{2} and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.

RESUMO

We report a measurement of the CP-violating parameters C and S in B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{0} decays at Belle II using a sample of 387×10^{6} BB[over ¯] events recorded in e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the ϒ(4S) resonance. These parameters are determined by fitting the proper decay-time distribution of a sample of 415 signal events. We obtain C=-0.04_{-0.15}^{+0.14}±0.05 and S=0.75_{-0.23}^{+0.20}±0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Pharmacokinetics of mycophenolic acid (MPA) display substantial interpatient variability, with up to 10-fold difference of exposure in individual patients under a fixed-dose regimen. MPA trough level (C0) monitoring is common in clinical practice but has not proven sufficiently informative in predicting MPA exposure or patient outcomes, especially in children. No limited sampling strategies (LSSs) have been generated from pediatric heart transplant (HTx) recipients to estimate MPA AUC. METHODS: Single-center, observational analysis of 135 de novo pediatric HTx recipients ≤21 years old who underwent MPA AUC between 2011 and 2021. RESULTS: Median age was 4 years (IQR .6-12.1). Median time from transplant to MPA AUC sampling was 15 days (IQR 11-19). MMF doses (mg or mg/day) had low, negative Pearson correlation coefficients (r) while doses adjusted for weight or body surface area had low correlation with Trapezoidal MPA AUC0-24 h (r = .3 and .383, respectively). MPA C0 had weak association (r = .451) with Trapezoidal MPA AUC0-24 h . LSS with two pharmacokinetic sampling time points at 90 (C3 ) and 360 (C5 ) min after MMF administration (estimated AUC0-24 h  = 32.82 + 4.12 × C3  + 11.53 × C5 ) showed strong correlation with Trapezoidal MPA AUC0-24 h (r = .87). CONCLUSION: MMF at fixed or weight-adjusted doses, as well as MPA trough levels, correlate poorly with MPA AUC0-24 h . We developed novel LSSs to estimate Trapezoidal MPA AUC from a large cohort of pediatric HTx recipients. Validation of our LSSs should be completed in a separate cohort of pediatric HTx recipients.

RESUMO

We present the first measurement of the ratio of branching fractions of inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays, R(X_{e/µ})=B(B→Xeν)/B(B→Xµν), a precision test of electron-muon universality, using data corresponding to 189 fb^{-1} from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. In events where the partner B meson is fully reconstructed, we use fits to the lepton momentum spectra above 1.3 GeV/c to obtain R(X_{e/µ})=1.007±0.009(stat)±0.019(syst), which is the most precise lepton-universality test of its kind and agrees with the standard-model expectation.

RESUMO

An interfacial integration at the nanoscale domain through a core@shell (CS) nanostructure has constructively unbarred a wide dimension to researchers on biomedical applications, especially for magnetic fluid hyperthermia. Lately, the interconnection of the exchange bias effect (EBE) through the interface coupling to the magnetic heating efficiency has uttered its utmost prominence for researchers. Here, we delineate the ascendency of the heating ability through a coalescing assembly of mixed ferrite Co0.5Zn0.5 Fe2O4 (CZ) and soft magnetic material Fe3O4 (F), by devising a network of CoZnFe2O4@Fe3O4 (CZF) CS nanostructure. A hefty interface activity with validation of the EBE phenomenon is divulged through magnetic scrutiny for the CS sample. The magnetic nanoparticles heating response to applied magnetic field and frequency is discerned at three distinct fields, where the outcome prevailed to inflated specific loss power for CS CZF in distinction to bare F and CZ samples for all the assessments. Remarkably; a lofty intrinsic loss parameter is also perceived for the CS sample recorded to about 5.36 nHm2 g-1; which is another eccentric outcome that significantly labels the CS CZF sample as a potentially high heating competence agent. This comprehension accords to a finer perspective to meliorate the theranostic environment for hyperthermia applications.

RESUMO

We report the first measurement of the Michel parameter ξ^{'} in the τ^{-}→µ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{µ}ν_{τ} decay with a new method proposed just recently. The measurement is based on the reconstruction of the τ^{-}→µ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{µ}ν_{τ} events with subsequent muon decay in flight in the Belle central drift chamber. The analyzed data sample of 988 fb^{-1} collected by the Belle detector corresponds to approximately 912×10^{6} τ^{+}τ^{-} pairs. We measure ξ^{'}=0.22±0.94(stat)±0.42(syst), which is in agreement with the standard model prediction of ξ^{'}=1. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Our analysis proved the practicability of this promising method and its prospects for further precise measurement in future experiments.

RESUMO

We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decays B^{+}→K^{+}τ^{±}ℓ^{∓}, with ℓ=(e,µ), using the full data sample of 772×10^{6} BB[over ¯] pairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. We use events in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. We find no evidence for B^{±}→K^{±}τℓ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the (1-3)×10^{-5} range. The obtained limits are the world's best results.

RESUMO

The L_{µ}-L_{τ} extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating Z^{'} boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a Z^{'} through its invisible decay in the process e^{+}e^{-}→µ^{+}µ^{-}Z^{'}. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7 fb^{-1}. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90%-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from 3×10^{-3} at low Z^{'} masses to 1 at Z^{'} masses of 8 GeV/c^{2}.

RESUMO

It is crucial for modern condensed matter physics to be able to effectively manipulate magnetism, as well as for permanent applications in general. The pristine Fe3Se4is known to meet all the criteria for a good permanent magnet (PM), but its energy product(BH)maxis quite low due to its low magnetization. Based on density functional theory calculations, we report on improved magnetic properties of promising transition metal (TM) substituted Fe3Se4systems (TM0.5Fe2.5Se4and TM1Fe2Se4, with TM = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn). The stability of the compounds is determined using phonon density of states and enthalpy of formation calculations. We predict an enhanced magnetization as well as uniaxial magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE) for TM substituted Fe3Se4, reaching a maximum value ofKu= 1.416 MJ m-3for V1Fe2Se4. We investigate the electronic structure of the compounds, and explore the source of the improved MAE. The enhanced MAE in V1Fe2Se4is attributed to the in-plane 3dorbitals near the Fermi level,EF, which alters the overall electronic bands. Site-resolved contributions toKushow that the Fe2 sublattice contributes considerably to the overall uniaxial anisotropy in V1Fe2Se4, whereas the Se sublattice contribution shifts from planar anisotropy in Fe3Se4to uniaxial. Such improvements in uniaxial MAE, together with improved structural stability, make V1Fe2Se4a promising choice for rare-earth-free PMs.

RESUMO

We search for lepton-flavor-violating τ^{-}→e^{-}α and τ^{-}→µ^{-}α decays, where α is an invisible spin-0 boson. The search uses electron-positron collisions at 10.58 GeV center-of-mass energy with an integrated luminosity of 62.8 fb^{-1}, produced by the SuperKEKB collider and collected with the Belle II detector. We search for an excess in the lepton-energy spectrum of the known τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e}ν_{τ} and τ^{-}→µ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{µ}ν_{τ} decays. We report 95% confidence-level upper limits on the branching-fraction ratio B(τ^{-}→e^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]_{e}ν_{τ}) in the range (1.1-9.7)×10^{-3} and on B(τ^{-}→µ^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→µ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{µ}ν_{τ}) in the range (0.7-12.2)×10^{-3} for α masses between 0 and 1.6 GeV/c^{2}. These results provide the most stringent bounds on invisible boson production from τ decays.
