Retrobulbar hemorrhage is a rare complication that may occur after mid-face injuries or following soft and hard tissue surgery around the eyes. The cardinal signs and symptoms of retrobulbar hemorrhage are pain, diplopia, ophthalmoplegia, a progression of increasing proptosis, and decreasing visual acuity leading to blindness. The diagnosis can be confirmed with computed tomography (CT) of the orbit or with ocular ultrasound. These diagnostic images are also important to define the size of the hematoma. This report describes a traumatic retrobulbar hemorrhage. In this case there were no signs of acute visual loss, and conservative treatment was possible without surgical intervention.

The use of plates for the treatment of fractures can affect craniofacial bone development. This study investigated the effect of bioabsorbable plates and titanium microscrews on the growth of the craniofacial skeleton of rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus), in the neonatal period. A LactoSorb plate and PROMM titanium microscrews were positioned across the coronal suture in animals in the study group. In the control group, only PROMM titanium microscrews were attached to the cranium. Anteroposterior linear measurements were obtained using 3 different gauging devices: digital precision caliper, EKG caliper and nylon string. RESUMO
Penetrating head and face injuries can cause hemorrhages, neurological lesions, visual acuity loss, fractures and facial deformities. This report discusses an injury caused by a knife that penetrated the left orbit and reached the skull base without damaging any important structures. The knife was removed through the entrance wound and no complications were observed either during or after surgery.
