RESUMO

This work explores quantitative limits to the single-active electron approximation, often used to deal with strong-field ionization and subsequent attosecond dynamics. Using a time-dependent, multiconfiguration approach, specifically the time-dependent configuration interaction method, we solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for the two-electron dihydrogen molecule with the possibility of tuning at will the electron-electron interaction by an adiabatic switch-on/switch-off function. We focus on signals of the single ionization of H2 under a strong near-infrared, four-cycle, linearly polarized laser pulse of varying intensity and within a vibrationally frozen molecular model. The observables we address are post-pulse total ionization probability profiles as a function of the laser peak intensity. Three values of the internuclear distance R taken as a parameter are considered, R = Req = 1.4 a.u. for the equilibrium geometry of the molecule, R = 5.0 a.u. for an elongated molecule, and R = 10.2 a.u. for a dissociating molecule. The most striking observation is the non-monotonous behavior of the ionization probability profiles at intermediate elongation distances with an instance of enhanced ionization and one of partial ionization quenching. We give an interpretation of this in terms of a resonance-enhanced-multiphoton ionization mechanism with interfering overlapping resonances resulting from excited electronic states.

Time resolved pump and probe acoustics and first-principles calculations were employed to assess elastic properties of the TbMnO3perovskite manganite having orthorhombic symmetry. Measuring sound velocities of bulk longitudinal and shear acoustic waves propagating along at least two different directions in the high symmetry planes (100), (010) and (001), provided a powerful mean to selectively determine the six diagonal elastic constantsC11= 227 GPa,C22= 349 GPa,C33= 274 GPa,C44= 71 GPa,C55= 57 GPa,C66= 62 GPa. Among the three remaining off-diagonal ones,C23= 103 GPa was determined with a bissectrice direction. Density functional theory calculations with colinear spin-polarized provided complementary insights on their optical, elastic and magnetoelastic properties.

RESUMO

Using Optimal Control Theory (OCT), we design fast ramps for the controlled transport of Bose-Einstein condensates with atom chips' magnetic traps. These ramps are engineered in the context of precision atom interferometry experiments and support transport over large distances, typically of the order of 1 mm, i.e. about 1,000 times the size of the atomic clouds, yet with durations not exceeding 200 ms. We show that with such transport durations of the order of the trap period, one can recover the ground state of the final trap at the end of the transport. The performance of the OCT procedure is compared to that of a Shortcut-To-Adiabaticity (STA) protocol and the respective advantages/disadvantages of the OCT treatment over the STA one are discussed.

Using a quantum wave packet simulation including the nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom, we investigate the femtosecond and picosecond energy- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectra of the E(Σg+1) electronic state of Li2. We find that the angular distributions of the emitted photoelectrons depend strongly on the pulse duration in the regime of ultrashort laser pulses. This effect is illustrated by the extraction of a time-dependent asymmetry parameter whose variation with pulse duration can be explained by an incoherent average over different ion rotational quantum numbers. We then derive for the variation of the asymmetry parameter a simple analytical formula, which can be used to extract the asymptotic CW asymmetry parameters of individual transitions from measurements performed with ultra-short pulses.

RESUMO

We introduce Bell-type inequalities allowing for nonlocality and entanglement tests with two cold heteronuclear molecules. The proposed inequalities are based on correlations between each molecule spatial orientation, an observable which can be experimentally measured with present day technology. Orientation measurements are performed on each subsystem at different times. These times play the role of the polarizer angles in Bell tests realized with photons. We discuss the experimental implementations of the proposed tests, which could also be adapted to other high dimensional quantum angular momenta systems.

RESUMO

The effect of having a finite number of layers on the design of omnidirectional reflectors was investigated. It was shown that the structure should be finished with a low-index layer having a thickness larger than a quarter-wave to increase reflectivity, whereas layers below may remain of quarter-wave optical thickness at normal incidence angle. This general trend has been used for designing and realizing two a-Si-SiO(2) (amorphous silicon and silicon dioxide) omnidirectional reflectors in the near-infrared range on a silicon and a silica substrate, respectively. Owing to the decrease of absorption of recrystallized silicon as compared with a-Si in the visible range, the transmissivity of the structure realized on silica substrate was dramatically increased in the visible range upon annealing, whereas the high reflectivity and the omnidirectional effect were maintained in the near-infrared range.
