RESUMO

High mountains harbor a considerable proportion of biodiversity, but we know little about how diverse plants adapt to the harsh environment. Here we finished a high-quality genome assembly for Dasiphora fruticosa, an ecologically important plant distributed in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and lowland of the Northern Hemisphere, and resequenced 592 natural individuals to address how this horticulture plant adapts to highland. Demographic analysis revealed D. fruticosa underwent a bottleneck after Naynayxungla Glaciation. Selective sweep analysis of two pairs of lowland and highland populations identified 63 shared genes related to cell wall organization or biogenesis, cellular component organization, and dwarfism, suggesting parallel adaptation to highland habitats. Most importantly, we found that stronger purging of estimated genetic load due to inbreeding in highland populations apparently contributed to their adaptation to the highest mountain. Our results revealed how plants could tolerate the extreme plateau, which could provide potential insights for species conservation and crop breeding.

RESUMO

Despite great advances in treatment, 30-40% of patients with DLBCL undergo relapses. Patients with a relapse within 1 year or beyond have a distinct outcome. Few clinical characteristics and survival data in the Chinese population have been published. We aimed to define the incidence and clinical features of DLBCL patients with very early relapse after front-line immunochemotherapy who may benefit greatly from the emerging chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. Data of 564 DLBCL patients were analyzed. Among the 413 patients achieving a first complete remission, 59 underwent relapses: 32 patients (54.2%) relapsed within 1 year, and 27 patients (46.8%) relapsed 1 year or more. Patients relapsing within 1 year, in comparison with the other group, showed an inferior risk profile at diagnosis: elevated lactate dehydrogenase level (P = 0.002), high Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance score (P = 0.02), and high international prognosis index (P = 0.004). As expected, a worse overall survival was observed in the early relapse group. Multivariate analysis for OS showed that relapse within 1 year was an independent parameter for reduced overall survival (HR 0.241, P = 0.002).

RESUMO

Here, a series of dinuclear N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) copper(I) complexes having 3,3'-(1,4-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(1-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-imidazolylidene as bis-NHC ligand and bis[(2-diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether (POP) as auxiliary ligand have been successfully prepared, and their photophysical properites were investigaged experimentally and theocitcally. The resulting complexes all exhibited intense green to yellow emission that originated from the thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) with a high photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 0.67 and longer excited-state lifetimes on the microsecond time scale in the solid state. Green and yellow light-emitting diode (LED) devices based on Cu(I) complexes have successfully achieved good color rendering indices. Moreover, the anti-counterfeiting patterns and QR codes made of Cu(I) complexes have been applied to clothing, banknotes, books and glass plates with excellent anti-counterfeiting effects.

RESUMO

We propose a method to achieve a strong indirect interaction between two distant whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) resonators in a hybrid quantum system at room temperature, even when the distance between them exceeds 40 wavelengths. By exploiting the quantum critical point, we can greatly enhance both the effective damping rate and the coupling strengths between a WGM resonator and a low-frequency polariton. We introduce a large effective frequency detuning to suppress the effective damping rate while maintaining the enhanced coupling strength. The strong indirect interaction between separated WGM resonators is mediated by a far-off-resonant low-frequency polariton through virtual excitations in a process similar to Raman process. This proposal provides a viable approach to building a quantum network based on strongly coupled WGM resonators.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There is no high-quality, evidence-based protocol for the treatment of postoperative fatigue syndrome (POFS) after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) or fracture surgery with Chinese herbal medicine (CHM). PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore the efficacy of CHM in the treatment of POFS after TJA or hip fracture surgery (HFS). METHODS: We searched six databases to obtain randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CHM for the treatment of POFS after TJA or HFS. The retrieval time limit was from the establishment of each database to August, 2022. According to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews version 5.1, we used RevMan 5.3 to evaluate the quality of the studies. Stata 14.0 software was used to merge and analyze the data. The weighted mean difference (WMD) was the effect estimate for statistical analysis. We also performed subgroup analyses according to different types of surgeries. RESULTS: A total of 11 RCTs were included in this study, comprising 430 cases in the CHM group and 432 cases in the control group (CG). The meta-analysis results showed that there was no significant difference in the Brief Profile of Mood States (BPOMS) score (WMD=0.08, 95% confidence interval (CI): -0.29 to 0.45, P=0.688), Christensen Fatigue scale (CHFS) score (WMD = 0.15, 95% CI: -0.09 to 0.39, P=0.214) or Identity-Consequence Fatigue Scale (ICFS) score (WMD=-0.40, 95% CI: -1.84 to 1.05, P=0.589) between the CHM group and the CG on the first postoperative day. The use of CHM significantly reduced the BPOMS score (WMD=-0.85 and WMD=-3.01, respectively), CHFS score (WMD=-1.01 and WMD= -1.45, respectively), and ICFS score (WMD=-3.51 and WMD=-5.26) on postoperative days 3 and 7. Compared with the CG, the CHM group had significantly increased serum transferrin and IgG levels on postoperative days 3 and 7. The subgroup analysis results suggested that the application of CHM in HFS patients improved fatigue symptoms on postoperative days 3 and 7, while the application of CHM to treat POFS in TJA patients had great inconsistency in the evaluation of different indicators. CONCLUSION: The application of CHM improved the fatigue status of POFS patients after TJA or HFS and increased the levels of transferrin and IgG in serum, which is conducive to promoting the postoperative rehabilitation process of patients. The subgroup analysis results showed that the application of CHM to intervene in POFS in HFS patients had obvious benefits.

RESUMO

Histological transformation to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) rarely occurs in patients with Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM). The median time from WM diagnosis to DLBCL is 4-5 years. Extranodal involvement is common in transformed WM. However, central nervous system (CNS) involvement is relatively uncommon. Here, we report a case of a simultaneous diagnosis of WM and clonally related DLBCL, with the involvement of CNS demonstrated by dual enhancement in MRI. Nevertheless, it is unclear if CNS infiltration is caused by DLBCL or WM for the inaccessibility of brain biopsy. Intensified chemotherapy and Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitor were administrated, and a good response was achieved. Please check the edit made in the article title.we have checked it.

RESUMO

The norepinephrine (NE) system is involved in pathways that regulate morphine addiction. Here, we investigated the role of α1 adrenoceptor in the ventrolateral orbital cortex (VLO) of rats with repeated morphine treatment and underlying molecular mechanisms. The rewarding properties of morphine were assessed by the conditioned place preference (CPP) paradigm. Prazosin, an α1 adrenoceptor antagonist, was microinjected into the VLO. The expression of α1 adrenoceptor, p-CaMKII/CaMKII, CRTC1, BDNF and PSD95 in the VLO were determined by immunohistochemistry or western blotting. Neurotransmitter NE in the VLO and inflammatory factors in serum were detected separately through high-performance liquid chromatography and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Our experimental results showed that repeated morphine administration induced stable CPP and prazosin promoted the morphine-induced CPP. Microinjection of prazosin in the VLO not only blocked the activity of α1 adrenoceptor, decreased CaMKII phosphorylation and CRTC1, which eventually resulted in a regression of synaptic plasticity-related proteins, but also was accompanied by significantly decreasing of NE in the VLO and increasing of inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood. These findings suggested that prazosin potentiates the addictive effects of morphine. The effect of increased CPP through reducing α1 adrenoceptor and NE was associated with the CaMKII-CRTC1 pathway and synaptic plasticity-related proteins in the VLO and inflammatory cytokines in the peripheral blood. The NE system may therefore be an underlying therapeutic target in morphine addiction. Additionally, we believe that the clinical use of prazosin in hypertensive patients with morphine abuse may be a potential risk because of its reinforcing effect on addiction.

RESUMO

We present a theoretical study that combines thermal and optomechanical effects to investigate their influences on the formation of the optical frequency comb (OFC) in whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microcavities. The results show that the cut-off order and center frequency of OFC affected by thermal effects exhibit an overall redshift by varying the power and detuning of the pump field, which provides the possibility of tuning the offset frequency of OFC. Our study demonstrates a method to characterize the effect on the generation of OFC and the tuning of its offset frequency in a WGM resonator with opto-thermo-mechanical properties and pave the way for the future development of OFC in thermo-optomechanical environments.

RESUMO

Objectives: To evaluate the short-term outcome of treatment by auricular acupressure (AA) on postoperative pain among hip fracture (HF) patients. Methods: A systematic search for randomized controlled trials on this topic was conducted through May 2022 by searching multiple English and Chinese databases. The methodological quality of the included trails was assessed by the Cochrane Handbook tool, and relevant data were extracted and statistically analyzed by RevMan 5.4.1 software. The quality of the evidence supporting each outcome was evaluated by GRADEpro GDT. Results: Fourteen trials with a total of 1390 participants were included in this study. Compared with conventional treatment (CT) alone, the combination of AA and CT had a significantly greater effect on the visual analog scale at 12 h (MD -0.53, 95% CI -0.77 to -0.30), 24 h (MD -0.59, 95% CI -0.92 to -0.25), 36 h (MD -0.07, 95% CI -0.13 to -0.02), 48 h (MD -0.52, 95% CI -0.97 to -0.08), and 72 h (MD -0.72, 95% CI -1.02 to -0.42), amount of analgesics used (MD -12.35, 95% CI -14.21 to -10.48), Harris Hip Score (MD 6.58, 95% CI 3.60 to 9.56), effective rate (OR 6.37, 95% CI 2.68 to 15.15), and adverse events (OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.71). Conclusions: Compared with CT alone, the combination of AA and CRT had a significantly greater effect on postoperative pain in HF patients. However, trails with a rigorous methodology, including standard protocols for AA and multiethnic subjects, are still needed.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Despite studies on offspring obesity and delayed parenthood, little attention has been paid to the central obesity of offspring. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that maternal age at childbirth (MAC) was associated with central obesity in offspring among the adult population, and fasting insulin may play a role in this association as a mediating factor. METHODS: A total of 423 adults (mean age 37.9 years, 37.1% female) were included. Information about maternal variables and other confounders was collected by face-to-face interview. Waist circumference and insulin were determined through physical measurements and biochemical examinations. Logistic regression model and restricted cubic spline model were used to analyze the relationship between MAC and central obesity of offspring. The mediating effect of fasting insulin levels on association between MAC and offspring waist circumference was also analyzed. RESULTS: There was a nonlinear relationship between MAC and central obesity in offspring. Compared with subjects with MAC 27-32 years, those with MAC 21-26 years (OR = 1.814, 95% CI: 1.129-2.915) and MAC ≥33 years (OR = 3.337, 95% CI: 1.638-6.798) had higher odds to develop central obesity. Offspring fasting insulin was also higher in MAC 21-26 years and MAC ≥33 years compared with those with MAC 27-32 years. Taking the group MAC 27-32 years as reference, the mediating effect of fasting insulin levels on the waist circumference was 20.6% and 12.4% for MAC 21-26 years and ≥ 33 years, respectively. CONCLUSION: MAC 27-32 years has the lowest odds of central obesity in offspring. Fasting insulin levels may have a partial mediating effect on the association between MAC and central obesity.

RESUMO

Genetic and environmental factors collectively determine plant growth and yield. In the past 20 years, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been conducted on crops to decipher genetic loci that contribute to growth and yield, however, plant genotype appears to be insufficient to explain the trait variations. Here, we unravel the associations between genotypic, phenotypic, and rhizoplane microbiota variables of 827 foxtail millet cultivars by an integrated GWAS, microbiome-wide association studies (MWAS) and microbiome genome-wide association studies (mGWAS) method. We identify 257 rhizoplane microbial biomarkers associated with six key agronomic traits and validated the microbial-mediated growth effects on foxtail millet using marker strains isolated from the field. The rhizoplane microbiota composition is mainly driven by variations in plant genes related to immunity, metabolites, hormone signaling and nutrient uptake. Among these, the host immune gene FLS2 and transcription factor bHLH35 are widely associated with the microbial taxa of the rhizoplane. We further uncover a plant genotype-microbiota interaction network that contributes to phenotype plasticity. The microbial-mediated growth effects on foxtail millet are dependent on the host genotype, suggesting that precision microbiome management could be used to engineer high-yielding cultivars in agriculture systems.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Little is known about the prevalence and impact of isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) in northeast China. We aimed to investigate the current epidemiology of IDH and to illustrate whether IDH accounted for cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. DESIGN: A prospective cohort study. SETTING: A population-based study carried out in northeast China. PARTICIPANTS: We built a community-based study of 18 796 residents aged ≥40 years who were living in northeast China with blood pressure measurements between September 2017 and March 2019. OUTCOME MEASURES: Information on CVD death was obtained from baseline until 31 July 2021. IDH was defined as a diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mm Hg together with systolic blood pressure <140 mm Hg among hypertensive population. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of IDH was 3.9%, which decreased significantly with advancing age (p<0.001) and ranged from 7.2% (95% CI: 6.3% to 8.2%) among participants 40-49 years to 1.5% (95% CI: 1.1% to 2.0%) among participants ≥70 years. Moreover, the IDH prevalence was higher in men than in women (5.2% vs 3.1%, p<0.001). The awareness and treatment rates of IDH were 25.7% and 17.7%, respectively, which were significantly lower than those of patients with non-IDH (50.1% and 21.7%, p=0.009, respectively). During a median follow-up of 3.2 years, 314 subjects died due to CVD (rate 4.84/1000 person-years). IDH and non-IDH were both significantly associated with an increased risk of CVD death (HR: 2.55, 95% CI: 1.35 to 4.82; HR: 2.48, 95% CI: 1.81 to 3.38) when compared with participants with non-hypertension. CONCLUSIONS: IDH was mainly prevalent among young and middle-aged populations, and the awareness and treatment rates in IDH were lower than those in non-IDH hypertension. Additionally, IDH and non-IDH were significantly related to an increased risk of CVD mortality. Early management of IDH is urgently required in northeast China.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study systematically reviewed the effect of melatonin (MLT) on quality of life (QoL) and symptoms among patients with cancer. DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES: Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, CINAHL, Scopus, ClinicalTrials.gov, China Biology Medicine (CBM), ProQuest and Open Grey were searched from inception to November 2021. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effects of MLT on QoL, sleep quality, fatigue, depression, pain, stomatitis rate and stomatitis severity in adult patients with cancer, without language restrictions. Studies that reported the effects of MLT along with other interventions and had incomplete or absent outcome data were excluded. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: Two independent reviewers extracted data, and another two reviewers assessed the risk of bias. The risk of bias for each eligible study was assessed using the Cochrane assessment tool. The mean difference or standard mean difference (SMD) with 95% CIs was used in the computation of continuous variables to synthesise data. The relative risk was used for dichotomous outcomes. Heterogeneity was assessed and quantified (I2 statistic). RESULTS: A total of 19 qualified studies that included 2101 patients with cancer (MLT: 1078, control: 1023) were included in the meta-analysis. The results indicated that MLT had no significant effect on QoL (SMD=-0.01, 95% CI (-0.14 to 0.11), p=0.83), sleep quality (SMD=-0.18, 95% CI (-0.62 to 0.26), p=0.42), fatigue (SMD=-0.34, 95% CI (-0.73 to 0.06), p=0.10), pain (SMD=-0.34, 95% CI (-0.7 to 0.02), p=0.06) or stomatitis severity (RR=0.78, 95% CI (0.47 to 1.30), p=0.35). MLT reduced stomatitis rate among patients with cancer (RR=0.47, 95% CI (0.26 to 0.88), p=0.02), except those with head and neck cancer (RR=1.09, 95% CI (0.92 to 1.29), p=0.35). MLT eased depression in patients who received administration for more than 14 days (SMD=-0.14, 95% CI (-0.27 to -0.01), p=0.03) and those who underwent surgery (SMD=-0.17, 95% CI (-0.32 to -0.03), p=0.02). CONCLUSION: The findings showed that MLT did not improve the QoL, sleep quality, fatigue, pain or stomatitis severity among patients with cancer. It had a limited effect on decreasing the stomatitis rate and easing depression. Different treatments, durations and cancer types were the main sources of heterogeneity. Further large-scale RCTs are urgently needed. In addition, the effects of different combinations of MLT dosage and duration, administration types and joint measures are worthy of further study. RESUMO

Passive electronic components are an indispensable part of integrated circuits, which are key to the miniaturization and integration of electronic components. As an important branch of passive devices, the relatively low energy-storage capacity of ceramic capacitors limits their miniaturization. To solve this problem, this study adopts the strategy of doping linear materials, specifically CT, into 0.95NaNbO3-0.05Bi(Mg0.5Sn0.5)O3 (0.95NN-0.05BMS) ceramics to increase the disorder of the system through the nonequivalent substitution of A and B sites to achieve the sintering temperature and the residual polarization. Meanwhile, the breakdown electric field strength (Eb) is improved by adjusting the activation energy of the material and the relative density of the sample. Thus, an ultrahigh Wrec of 6.35 J/cm3 and a η of 80% are obtained at an Eb of 646 kV/cm. Additionally, through the analysis of the dielectric temperature spectrum, it is found that the 0.88(0.95NN-0.05BMS)-0.12CT sample can satisfy the technical standards of general ceramic Z5U and patch ceramic X6R. The performance of the ceramics also remains stable within a temperature range of 20-200 °C, a frequency range of 1-100 Hz, and 104 cycles. The charge and discharge tests of the ceramics show that the t0.9 of the sample floats between 1.02 and 1.04 µs, which illustrates its potential application in the field of pulsed power components.

RESUMO

In this study, a new fluorescent sensor dicyanoisophorone Rhodanine-3-acetic acid (DCI-RDA) (DCI-RDA) has been developed by employing a DCI-based push-pull dye as the fluorophore and RDA as the recognition moiety for the simultaneous sensing of Fe3+ and Hg2+ with a large Stokes Shift (162 nm), high selectivity and sensitivity, and low LOD (1.468 µM for Fe3+ and 0.305 µM for Hg2+). In particular, DCI-RDA has a short response time (30 s). The Job's plot method in combination with 1H NMR titration and theoretical calculations was used to determine the stoichiometry of both DCI-RDA-Fe3+/Hg2+ complexes to be 1 : 1. Moreover, DCI-RDA is applied as a fluorescent probe for imaging in HeLa cells and zebrafish, indicating that it can be potentially applied for Fe3+/Hg2+ sensing in the field of biology.

RESUMO

Little is known about the epidemiology and impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) mortality among hypertensive elderly population in northeast China. The community-based study included 4497 hypertensive elderly residents aged ≥65 years who lived in northeast China from September 2017 to March 2019. Information on CVD deaths was obtained from baseline until July 31, 2021. Cox proportional hazard regression models were performed in the evaluation of CVD mortality. We identified 101 persons with AF. The prevalence of AF was 2.2% among elderly hypertensive population, which increased significantly with age. The prevalence of AF was higher in men than in women. The awareness rate was 51.5%, higher in urban areas than in rural areas (68.8% vs 43.5%, P = .018). Only 4.0% patients received oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy among AF patients. Moreover, diabetes (26.7%) and dyslipidemia (37.6%) were highly prevalent in AF patients. Furthermore, 212 persons died due to CVD (14.7/1000 person-years) during a median follow-up of 3.2 years. AF patients had a 3.42 (95% CI: 2.07-5.63) times higher risk of CVD mortality than the patients without AF in the fully adjusted model. Therefore, the burden of AF among hypertensive elderly population in northeast China was considerable. Long-term screening and management strategies for AF and related risk factors are required among hypertensive elderly in northeast China.

RESUMO

Background: Elderly people are susceptible to atrial fibrillation (AF) and ischemic stroke (IS); however, less information is known about the association between AF and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in elderly population with IS. We aimed to investigate the features of AF among aged people with IS and to illustrate whether AF accounted for CVD mortality. Methods: At baseline, 790 patients with IS were enrolled from the general northeast Chinese elderly population (>60 years) between September 2017 to March 2019. The prevalence, awareness, and treatment of AF in each age group were analyzed, as well as major-related cardiovascular risk factors. The population was followed until July 31, 2021, and information on CVD death was obtained. Results: A total of 25 people had AF, and the prevalence of AF in the elderly population with IS was 3.2%. The AF prevalence grew along with age from 1% (60-64 years) to 4.3% (70-74 years) and 4.2% (≥75 years), which was higher in the urban residents than in the rural residents (5.7 vs. 2.2%, P = 0.014). The awareness and treatment rates of patients with AF were 80 and 8%. After a median follow-up period of 3.3 years, 58 subjects died due to CVD and 5 subjects were accompanied with AF (rate 70.6/1,000 person-years). Elderly IS patients with AF had a 3.65-fold increased risk of CVD death in the fully adjusted model when compared with non-AF participants. Conclusion: The AF prevalence increased with age among the elderly population with IS. Moreover, elderly patients with IS in northeast China with AF had a higher CVD mortality. Therefore, early screening and prompt management of AF in elderly population with IS in northeast China are required.

RESUMO

Malignant eyelid tumors can invade adjacent structures and pose a threat to vision and even life. Early identification of malignant eyelid tumors is crucial to avoiding substantial morbidity and mortality. However, differentiating malignant eyelid tumors from benign ones can be challenging for primary care physicians and even some ophthalmologists. Here, based on 1,417 photographic images from 851 patients across three hospitals, we developed an artificial intelligence system using a faster region-based convolutional neural network and deep learning classification networks to automatically locate eyelid tumors and then distinguish between malignant and benign eyelid tumors. The system performed well in both internal and external test sets (AUCs ranged from 0.899 to 0.955). The performance of the system is comparable to that of a senior ophthalmologist, indicating that this system has the potential to be used at the screening stage for promoting the early detection and treatment of malignant eyelid tumors.

RESUMO

Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides), a horticulturally multipurpose species in the family Elaeagnaceae, can build associations with Frankia actinomycetes to enable symbiotic nitrogen-fixing. Currently, no high-quality reference genome is available for an actinorhizal plant, which greatly hinders the study of actinorhizal symbiotic nodulation. Here, by combining short-read, long-read and Hi-C sequencing technologies, we generated a chromosome-level reference genome of H. rhamnoides (scaffold N50: 65 Mb, and genome size: 730 Mb) and predicted 30 812 protein-coding genes mainly on 12 pseudochromosomes. Hippophae rhamnoides was found to share a high proportion of symbiotic nodulation genes with Medicago truncatula, implying a shared molecular mechanism between actinorhizal and rhizobial symbioses. Phylogenetic analysis clustered the three paralogous NODULE INCEPTION (NIN) genes of H. rhamnoides with those of other nodulating species, forming the NIN group that most likely evolved from the ancestral NLP group. The genome of H. rhamnoides will help us to decipher the underlying genetic programming of actinorhizal symbiosis, and our high-quality genome and transcriptomic resources will make H. rhamnoides a new excellent model plant for actinorhizal symbiosis research.

RESUMO

With continuous improvement of people's living standards, great efforts have been paid to environmental protection. Among those environmental issues, soil contamination by petroleum hydrocarbons has received widespread concerns due to the persistence and the degradation difficulty of the pollutants. Among the various remediation technologies, in-situ microbial remediation enhancement technologies have become the current hotspot because of its low cost, environmental friendliness, and in-situ availability. This review summarizes several in-situ microbial remediation technologies such as bioaugmentation, biostimulation, and integrated remediation, as well as their engineering applications, providing references for the selection of in-situ bioremediation technologies in engineering applications. Moreover, this review discusses future research directions in this area.
