RESUMO

The aim of this study was to optimize the formulation of hard candy with antiviral herbal extracts and flowered with Citrus limon peel essential oils. To substitute water fraction, the D-optimal mixture design was used. The optimized mixture fractions of the best hard candy formulation contain Curcuma longa extract (10%), Artemisia herba-alba Asso extract (3.33%), Glycyrrhiza glabra extract (1.66%), and Zingiber officinale extract (1.66%) and flowered by 20 µL/100 gram of Citrus limon essential oils. The effect of the addition had been investigated on the sensory, physicochemical, and phytochemical of the hard candy according to the optimal formulation. The main component of Citrus limon essential oil is limonene (52.47%), which has a pleasant lemon fragrance. The mixture of herbal extract added increased the total phenols, the flavonoid, and the ash content of the formulated hard candy (10.90 ± 0.50 mg GAE/g, 0.054 ± 0.02 mg CE/g, and 0.018 ± 0.009, respectively). The measurement of the DPPH free radical activity reveals a good antioxidant activity (26.4%). Furthermore, the sensory analysis has shown a good appreciation. Thus, formulated hard candy is a sensorially and therapeutically interesting product.

We have been interested, in this work, to investigate the effect of the exposure to static magnetic field at 200 mT (SMF) on the fatty acid (FA) composition of Salmonella enterica subsp Enterica serovar Hadar isolate 287: effects on the proportion of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (SFAs, UFAs), cyclopropane fatty acids (CFAs) and hydroxy fatty acids after exposure to the static magnetic field at 200 mT (SMF). Analysis with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) of total lipid showed that the proportion of the most fatty acids was clearly affected. The comparison of UFAs/SFAs ratio in exposed bacteria and controls showed a diminution after 3 and 6 h of exposure. This ration reached a balance after 9 h of treatment with SMF. So we can conclude that S. Hadar tries to adapt to magnetic stress by changing the proportions of SFAs and UFAs over time to maintain an equilibrium after 9 h of exposure, thus to maintain the inner membranes fluidity. Also, a decrease in the proportion of hydroxy FAs was observed after 6 h but an increase of this proportion after 9 h of exposure. Concerning CFAs, its proportion raised after 6 h of exposure to the SMF but it decreased after 9 h of exposure. These results are strongly correlated with those of cfa (cyclopropane fatty acid synthase) gene expression which showed a decrease of its expression after 9 h of exposure.

This study aims to investigate the effects of the 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic herbicide (2,4-D) on plasma lipids, lipoproteins concentrations, hepatic lipid peroxidation, fatty acid composition and antioxidant enzyme activities in rats. Animals were randomly divided into four groups of 10 each: control group and three 2,4-D-treated groups G1, G2 and G3 were administered 15, 75 and 150 mg/kg/BW/d 2,4-D by gavage for 28 d, respectively. Results showed that 2,4-D caused significant negative changes in the biochemical parameters investigated. The malondialdehyde level was significantly increased in 2,4-D-treated groups. Fatty acid composition of the liver was also significantly changed with 2,4-D exposure. Furthermore, the hepatic antioxidant enzyme activities were significantly affected. Finally, 2,4-D at the studied doses modifies lipidic status, disrupt lipid metabolism and induce hepatic oxidative stress. In conclusion, at higher doses, 2,4-D may play an important role in the development of vascular disease via metabolic disorder of lipoproteins, lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress.
