RESUMO

ortho-Pyrovanadate (or ortho-diorthovanadate) K2Mn23+Mn2+O(OH)(VO4)(V2O7) synthesized hydrothermally crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with a = 17.9155(5), b = 5.8940(2), c = 10.9971(3) Å, V = 1161.23(6) Å3, and Z = 4. Its crystal structure features linear chains of edge-sharing Mn3+O6 octahedra with every second pair of Mn3+O6 octahedra condensed with a Mn2+O6 octahedron on one side of a chain in a sawtooth pattern so that each sawtooth chain consists of a triangular trimer. These sawtooth chains, running parallel to the b axis and linked by the VO4 and V2O7 groups, form a framework with channels populated by K atoms. The new compound is a structural analogue of the mineral zoisite Ca2Al3O(OH)(SiO4)(Si2O7), showing a striking example of very different chemical compositions. K2Mn3O(OH)(VO4)(V2O7) undergoes a phase transition into an ordered antiferromagnetic (AFM) state at TN = 14.4 K, which was detected by high-frequency electron spin resonance as well as by both specific heat Cp and Fisher's specific heat d(χT)/dT measurements. However, this phase transition was not detected by magnetic susceptibility measurements. The origin of this puzzling observation was resolved by evaluating the spin exchanges of K2Mn3O(OH)(VO4)(V2O7), which revealed that each triangular trimer is a ferromagnetically coupled cluster, and the observed ordering involves an AFM ordering between the ferromagnetic (FM) clusters. This ordering is shrouded in magnetic susceptibility measurements due to the susceptibility contributions from the individual FM triangular trimers even below TN. We showed that the magnetic susceptibility of K2Mn3O(OH)(VO4)(V2O7) between ∼30 K and room temperature is satisfactorily described by an AFM chain made up of ferromagnetically coupled triangular clusters, as described by a few spin-exchange parameters.

RESUMO

Mixed-valent Ba2Mn2+Mn23+(SeO3)6 crystallizes in a monoclinic P21/c structure and has honeycomb layers of Mn3+ ions alternating with triangular layers of Mn2+ ions. We established the key parameters governing its magnetic structure by magnetization M and specific heat Cp measurements. The title compound exhibits a close succession of a short-range correlation order at Tcorr = 10.1 ± 0.1 K and a long-range Néel order at TN = 5.7 ± 0.1 K, and exhibits a metamagnetic phase transition at T < TN with hysteresis most pronounced at low temperatures. The causes for these observations were found using the spin exchange parameters evaluated by density functional theory calculations. The title compound represents a unique case in which uniform chains of integer spin Mn3+ (S = 2) ions interact with those of half-integer spin Mn2+ (S = 5/2) ions.

RESUMO

The development of environmentally friendly and efficient methods for the synthesis of ethylene carbonate (EC) is crucial for advancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies. Herein, we present the synthesis of EC through the transesterification of urea with ethylene glycol (EG) using a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF) derived Fe-doped ZnO catalyst (Fe;ZnO-ZIF). The Fe;ZnO-ZIF catalyst, prepared by incorporating Fe dopant atoms into a ZnO-ZIF template, demonstrates excellent catalytic activity, achieving high conversion of reactants and superior selectivity toward EC at 160 °C for 150 min under an applied vacuum (160 mmHg). Based on the thermogravimetric, X-ray spectroscopic, and temperature-programmed desorption analysis, the simultaneous presence of strong Lewis acidic and basic sites in Fe;ZnO-ZIF enables its excellent catalytic performance toward EC synthesis with high selectivity. Acidic sites activate the carbon center in urea, while basic sites facilitate the nucleophilic attack on urea by deprotonation of EG. This synergistic reaction pathway resulting from the interaction between the strong Lewis acidic and basic sites promotes nucleophilic attacks of EG on urea, leading to significantly higher conversion efficiency and selectivity, compared to the commercial benchmark ZnO. Although the establishment of a continuous reaction system which takes into account cyclability and stability of the catalysts is further required in the future, our research reported herein provides valuable insights into the design of synergistic, localized active sites for EC synthesis and contributes to the development of sustainable carbon utilization technologies for achievement of net-zero emissions.

RESUMO

Circadian clocks in many brain regions and peripheral tissues are entrained by the daily rhythm of food intake. Clocks in one or more of these locations generate a daily rhythm of locomotor activity that anticipates a regular mealtime. Rats and mice can also anticipate two daily meals. Whether this involves 1 or 2 circadian clocks is unknown. To gain insight into how the circadian system adjusts to 2 daily mealtimes, male rats in a 12∶12 light-dark cycle were fed a 2 h meal either 4 h after lights-on or 4 h after lights-off, or a 1 h meal at both times. After 30 days, brain, blood, adrenal and stomach tissue were collected at 6 time points. Multiple clock genes from adrenals and stomachs were assayed by RT-PCR. Blood was assayed for corticosterone and ghrelin. Bmal1 expression was quantified in 14 brain regions by in situ hybridization. Clock gene rhythms in adrenal and stomach from day-fed rats oscillated in antiphase with the rhythms in night-fed rats, and at an intermediate phase in rats fed twice daily. Corticosterone and ghrelin in 1-meal rats peaked at or prior to the expected mealtime. In 2-meal rats, corticosterone peaked only prior the nighttime meal, while ghrelin peaked prior to the daytime meal and then remained elevated. The olfactory bulb, nucleus accumbens, dorsal striatum, cerebellum and arcuate nucleus exhibited significant daily rhythms of Bmal1 in the night-fed groups that were approximately in antiphase in the day-fed groups, and at intermediate levels (arrhythmic) in rats anticipating 2 daily meals. The dissociations between anticipatory activity and the peripheral clocks and hormones in rats anticipating 2 daily meals argue against a role for these signals in the timing of behavioral rhythms. The absence of rhythmicity at the tissue level in brain regions from rats anticipating 2 daily meals support behavioral evidence that circadian clock cells in these tissues may reorganize into two populations coupled to different meals.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to suggest a clinical guideline to properly position immediate implant placement in the anterior maxillary area. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The computed tomography (CT) records of 250 patients (125 males, 125 females; mean age 49.5 years) were evaluated, and the relationship of the sagittal root positions of the maxillary central incisor teeth to their respective alveolar bony housing was classified as buccal (B), medial (M), or palatal (P). Then, the clinical guideline was suggested based on the implications derived from the classification. In the second investigation, the validity of the clinical guideline was confirmed by CT analysis. First, a reference line was defined using soft tissue landmarks. Then, a virtual rectangle representing the dental implant was created and merged on the CT image, symbolizing the space where the dental implant would be positioned. The rectangular frame was positioned on the image in accordance with the guideline. The frame on the image was thoroughly assessed to detect the possibility of perforation of the labial plate. The location of the initial drilling access on the respective crown was determined by extending the longitudinal axis of the frame in a coronal direction. RESULTS: Of the 250 samples, 94.0% were classified as type B. Type M and P represented 5.6% and 0.4% of the samples, respectively. In 82.0% of the samples, the frame was safely positioned, not contacting the labial or palatal cortical plate in the alveolar bony housing. Moreover, when a frame representing a tapered implant form with an apical diameter of 3.5 mm was applied, 98.8% of samples were positioned safely in the alveolar bony housing. The longitudinal axis of the frame crossed the respective crown at the incisal tip in 54.4% of the cases. It crossed the labial side of the crown and cingulum of the crown in 42.0% and 3.6% of the cases, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The root of the maxillary central incisor teeth tended to be positioning labially in the alveolar bony housing. The result of the CT analysis confirms the clinical guideline as a dependable clinical reference in immediate implant placement.

RESUMO

Pneumocephalus is a condition which usually results from head trauma. It has been known that iatrogenic pneumocephalus can occur as a complication of positive pressure mask ventilation during induction of anesthesia or ventilatory care for head trauma patients. We report a case of mask ventilation during anesthesia induction in a 50-year-old male patient with head trauma. Initial pneumocephalus associated with cerebrospinal fluid leakage was diagnosed immediate following head injury involving facial sinuses. He was managed with emergent lumbar drainage and supportive care. Pneumocephalus recurred following positive pressure mask ventilation (PPMV) during anesthesia induction for surgery on the right arm. Recurred pneumocephalus was managed with high flow oxygen and supportive care. Anesthesiologists should be aware of pneumocephalus as a potential complication of PPMV in head trauma patients, even after resolution of previous pneumocephalus.

RESUMO

Immediate implant restoration has gained popularity in recent years due in part to technological advancements that use computed tomographic images to simulate the actual clinical situation. This computer-assisted simulation enables clinicians to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that can be precisely executed in a timely manner. In the aesthetic zone, however, a successful outcome requires more than merely accurate implant placement. This article discusses the significance of site development for aesthetic implant restoration and describes a computer-guided immediate pro visionalization procedure and its surgical and prosthodontic rationale
