RESUMO

Aiming at the blade flutter of large horizontal-axis wind turbines, a method by utilizing biomimetic corrugation to suppress blade flutter is first proposed. By extracting the dragonfly wing corrugation, the biomimetic corrugation airfoil is constructed, finding that mapping corrugation to the airfoil pressure side has better aerodynamic performance. The influence of corrugation type, amplitudeλ, and intensity on airfoil flutter is analyzed using orthogonal experiment, which determines that theλhas the greatest influence on airfoil flutter. Based on the fluctuation range of the moment coefficient ΔCm, the optimal airfoil flutter suppression effect is obtained when the type is III,λ= 0.6, and intensity is denser (n= 13). The effective corrugation layout area in the chord direction is determined to be the leading edge, and the ΔCmof corrugation airfoil is reduced by 7.405%, compared to the original airfoil. The application of this corrugation to NREL 15 MW wind turbine 3D blades is studied, and the influence of corrugation layout length in the blade span direction on the suppressive effect is analyzed by fluid-structure interaction. It is found that when the layout length is 0.85 R, the safety marginSfreaches a maximum value of 0.3431 Hz, which is increased 2.940%. The results show that the biomimetic corrugated structure proposed in this paper can not only improve the aerodynamic performance by changing the local flow field on the surface of the blade, but also increase the structural stiffness of the blade itself, and achieve the effect of flutter suppression.

RESUMO

"White pollution" has a significant impact on male reproduction. Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) is one of the most important factors in this type of pollution. Currently, research from international sources has demonstrated the significant reproductive toxicity of DBP. However, most of these studies have focused mainly on hormones expression at the protein and mRNA levels and the specific molecular targets of DBP and its mechanisms of action remain unclear. In this study, we established a Sprague Dawley pregnant mouse model exposed to DBP, and all male offspring were immediately euthanized at birth and bilateral testes were collected. We found through transcriptome sequencing that cell apoptosis and MAPK signaling pathway are the main potential pathways for DBP induced reproductive toxicity. Molecular biology analyses revealed a significant increase in the protein levels of JNK1(MAPK8) and BAX, as well as a significant increase in the BAX/BCL2 ratio after DBP exposure. Therefore, we propose that DBP induces reproductive toxicity by regulating JNK1 expression to activate the MAPK signaling pathway and induce reproductive cell apoptosis. In conclusion, our study provides the first evidence that the MAPK signaling pathway is involved in DBP-induced reproductive toxicity and highlights the importance of JNK1 as a potential target of DBP in inducing reproductive toxicity.

RESUMO

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of death among gynecological malignant tumors, especially due to the poor prognosis of patients with advanced tumors due to recurrence, metastasis, and chemotherapy resistance. Therefore, exploring new antineoplastic drugs with high efficacy and low toxicity may bring new expectations in patients with cervical cancer. Natural products and their derivatives exert an antitumor activity. Therefore, in this work, combined with network pharmacology analysis and experimental validation, we investigated the anti-cervical cancer activity and molecular mechanism of a new trifluoromethyl quinoline (FKL) derivative in vivo and in vitro. FKL117 inhibited the proliferation of cervical cancer cells in a dose and time-dependent manner, induced apoptosis in HeLa cells, arrested the cell cycle in the G2/M phase, and regulated the expression of the apoptotic and cell cycle-related proteins Bcl-2, Bax, cyclin B1, and CDC2. We used online databases to obtain HDAC1 as one of the possible targets of FKL117 and the target binding and binding affinity were modeled by molecular docking. The results showed that FKL117 formed a hydrogen bond with HDAC1 and had good binding ability. We found that FKL117 targeted to inhibit the expression and function of HDAC1 and increased the acetylation of histone H3 and H4, which was also confirmed in vivo. The migration of HMGB1 from the nucleus to the cytoplasm further verified the above results. In conclusion, our study suggested that FKL117 might be used as a novel candidate for targeting the inhibition of HDAC1 against cervical cancer.

RESUMO

Leukemia is a type of malignant hematological disease that is generally resistant to chemotherapy and has poor therapeutic outcomes. Werner (WRN) DNA helicase, an important member of the RecQ family of helicases, plays an important role in DNA repair and telomere stability maintenance. WRN gene dysfunction leads to premature aging and predisposes humans to various types of cancers. However, the biological function of WRN in cancer remains unknown. In this study, the expression of this RecQ family helicase was investigated in different types of leukemia cells, and the leukemia cell line K562 with high WRN expression was selected to construct a WRN knockdown cell line. The results showed that WRN knockdown inhibited leukemia occurrence and development by regulating the proliferation, cell cycle, differentiation, and aging of cells and other biological processes. The results of transcriptome sequencing revealed that WRN promoted the sensitivity of leukemia cells to the DNA damage inducer Etoposide by regulating cell cycle-related proteins, such as CDC2, cyclin B1, p16, and p21, as well as key proteins in DNA damage repair pathways, such as p53, RAD50, RAD51, and MER11. Our findings show that WRN helicase is a promising potential target for leukemia treatment, providing new ideas for the development of targeted drugs against leukemia.

RESUMO

The electro-driven extraction of uranium from fluorine-containing uranium wastewater is anticipated to address the challenge of separating fluoro-uranium complexes in conventional technologies. Herein, we developed hydroxy-rich cobalt-based oxides (CoOx) for electro-assisted uranium extraction from fluorine-containing wastewater. Relying on theoretical calculations and other spectral measurements, the hydroxy-rich CoOx nanosheets can enhance the affinity for uranium due to the existence of a substantial quantity of hydroxyl groups. Accordingly, the CoOx nanosheets exhibit outstanding U(VI) removal efficiency in the presence of fluorine ions. Through the utilization of X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), we confirm that hydroxy-rich CoOx nanosheets capture free uranyl ions to form a sturdy 2Oax-1U-3Oeq configuration, which can be achieved through electro-driven fluorine-uranium separation. Notably, for the first time, the whole reaction process of uranium species on the CoOx surface from the initial uranium single atom growth to uranium oxide nanosheets is monitored by aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopes (AC-TEM). This work provides a paradigm for the advancement of novel functional materials as electrocatalysts for uranium extraction, as well as a new approach for studying the evolution mechanism of uranium species.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate and poor prognosis in patients. Its pathogenesis is a complex process of multi-factors and multi-steps. However, the etiology and exact molecular mechanism are not completely clear. METHODS: Here, we constructed a specific-expressed network based on RNA sequencing data. Gene and miRNA expression profiles and clinical evidence were integrated to detect hepatocellular carcinoma survival modules. Finally, we attempted to identify potential key biomarkers and drug targets by integrating drug sensitivity analysis and immune infiltration analysis. RESULTS: A total of 42 prognostic modules for hepatocellular carcinoma were detected. The prognostic modules were significantly enriched with known cancer-related molecules and 12.93 % molecules of prognostic modules had been found were the targets of small molecule drug. In addition, we found that 38 of 42 (90.48 %) essential genes were associated with the proportions of at least one of the 7 immune cell types. CONCLUSION: We integrated clinical prognosis information, RNA sequencing data, and drug activity data to explore risk modules of hepatocellular carcinoma. Through drug sensitivity analysis and immune infiltration analysis, we assessed the value of hub genes in the modules as potential biomarkers and drug targets for hepatocellular carcinoma. The protocol provides new insight into parsing the molecular mechanism and theoretical basis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMO

Osteopontin (OPN), a secreted phosphoglycoprotein, has important roles in tumor growth, invasion and metastasis in numerous types of cancers. Denticleless E3 ubiquitin protein ligase homolog (DTL), one of the CUL4-DDB1-associated factors (DCAFs), has also been associated with the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells. In the present study, OPN was found to induce DTL expression in liver cancer cells, and the results obtained using luciferase activity assays demonstrated that OPN could transcriptionally activate DTL expression in liver cancer cells. Furthermore, the results of the present study demonstrated that OPN could increase the expression of DTL via PI3K/AKT signaling. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that OPN, as an extracellular matrix protein, is able to promote the growth and invasion of liver cancer cells through stimulation of the expression of DTL via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to develop a risk prediction model for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in cancer patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC) and identify the variables that have the most significant impact on prediction. METHODS: Data from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital were collected and subjected to stepwise data preprocessing. Deep learning algorithms, including deep forest, and typical machine learning algorithms such as support vector machine (SVM), categorical boosting (CatBoost), random forest, decision tree, and neural network were used to develop the prediction model. After training the model and conducting hyperparameter optimization (HPO) through cross-validation in the training set, the performance was evaluated using the test set. Shapley additive explanations (SHAP), partial dependence plot (PDP), and Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME) techniques were employed to explain the optimal model. Model performance was assessed using AUC, F1 score, accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, and Brier score. RESULTS: The deep forest model exhibited good discrimination, outperforming typical machine learning models, with an AUC of 0.850 (95%CI, 0.780-0.919), an F1 score of 0.757, an accuracy of 0.852, a specificity of 0.863, a sensitivity of 0.784, and a Brier score of 0.082. The top five important features in the model were creatinine clearance (Ccr), age, gender, anticipatory nausea and vomiting, and antiemetic regimen. Among these, Ccr had the most significant predictive value. The risk of CINV decreased with increased Ccr and age, while it was higher in the presence of anticipatory nausea and vomiting, female gender, and non-standard antiemetic regimen. CONCLUSION: The deep forest model demonstrated good discrimination in predicting the risk of CINV in cancer patients prescribed HEC. Kidney function, as represented by Ccr, played a crucial role in the model's prediction. The clinical application of this predictive tool can help assess individual risks and improve patient care by proactively optimizing the use of antiemetics in cancer patients receiving HEC.

RESUMO

In the medical research domain, limited data and high annotation costs have made efficient classification under few-shot conditions a popular research area. This paper proposes a meta-learning framework, termed MedOptNet, for few-shot medical image classification. The framework enables the use of various high-performance convex optimization models as classifiers, such as multi-class kernel support vector machines, ridge regression, and other models. End-to-end training is then implemented using dual problems and differentiation in the paper. Additionally, various regularization techniques are employed to enhance the model's generalization capabilities. Experiments on the BreakHis, ISIC2018, and Pap smear medical few-shot datasets demonstrate that the MedOptNet framework outperforms benchmark models. Moreover, the model training time is also compared to prove its effectiveness in the paper, and an ablation study is conducted to validate the effectiveness of each module.

RESUMO

The atmospheric aerosols around the Bohai Bay are affected intensively by the surrounding industrial, shipping and other human activities. Although atmospheric dry deposition is an important way for nutrients to enter the Bohai Bay, few studies explore the distribution patterns, source and deposition fluxes of typical nutrients in aerosols and their impacts on the marine ecosystem. This paper explored the spatial-temporal distribution of typical aerosol nutrients in summer and autumn, and their source and ecological effects were illustrated further. The mean concentration of dissolved total phosphorus (DTP), dissolved total nitrogen (DTN), dissolved organic nitrogen (DON), dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), ammonium (NH4-N), nitrate (NO3-N), nitrite (NO2-N), silicate (SiO3-Si), phosphate (PO4-P), and dissolved organic phosphorus (DOP) were 31.22, 847.22, 288.19, 559.77, 288.19, 304.00, 253.65, 2.12, 15.74 and 15.48 nmol/m3, respectively, while their fluxes were corresponding to 0.61, 8.36, 2.52, 4.90, 1.41, 2.49, 0.02, 0.04, 0.19 and 0.26 mmol/(m2 month). Typical aerosol nutrient concentrations in autumn were mostly higher than those in summer, with high values occurring mainly in the central region. The potential sources of pollution were mainly concentrated in Shandong and Mongolia, and the sources of pollution were mainly agriculture, dust and industry. The large N:P and N:Si ratios in the dry deposition likely exacerbated Si and P limitation in the water column. These results provided the data basis for evaluating the pollution status and revealed that the dry deposition of aerosol nutrients should not be neglected by the ecological environment in the Bohai Bay.

RESUMO

High-energy-conversion Bi2Te3-based thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are needed to ensure that the assembled material has a high value of average figure of merit (ZTave). However, the inferior ZTave of the n-type leg severely restricts the large-scale applications of Bi2Te3-based TEGs. In this study, we achieved and reported a high peak ZT (1.33) of three-dimensional (3D)-printing n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3. In addition, a superior ZTave of 1.23 at a temperature ranging from 300 to 500 K was achieved. The high value of ZTave was obtained by synergistically optimizing the electronic- and phonon-transport properties using the 3D-printing-driven defect engineering. The nonequilibrium solidification mechanism facilitated the multiscale defects formed during the 3D-printed process. Among the defects formed, the nanotwins triggered the energy-filtering effect, thus enhancing the Seebeck coefficient at a temperature range of 300-500 K. The effective scattering of wide-frequency phonons by multiscale defects reduced the lattice thermal conductivity close to the theoretical minimum of ∼0.35 W m-1 k-1. Given the advantages of 3D printing in freeform device shapes, we assembled and measured bionic honeycomb-shaped single-leg TEGs, exhibiting a record-high energy conversion efficiency (10.2%). This work demonstrates the great potential of defect engineering driven by selective laser melting 3D-printing technology for the rational design of advanced n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 thermoelectric material.

RESUMO

In this work, the as-cast directionally solidified (DS) Fe-B alloys with various Si contents and different boride orientation were designed and fabricated, and the as-cast microstructures and static oxidation behaviors of the DS Fe-B alloys were investigated extensively. The as-cast microstructure of the DS Fe-B alloys consists of the well-oriented Fe2B columnar grains and α-Fe, which are strongly refined by Si addition. The oxidation interface of the scales in the DS Fe-B alloy with 3.50 wt.% Si demonstrates an obvious saw-tooth shaped structure and is embedded into the alternating distributed columnar layer structures of the DS Fe-B alloy with oriented Fe2B and α-Fe matrix, which is beneficial to improve the anti-peeling performance of the oxide film compared with lower amounts of Si addition in DS Fe-B alloys with oriented Fe2B [002] orientation parallel to the oxidation direction (i.e., oxidation diffusion direction, labeled as Fe2B// sample). In the DS Fe-B alloys with oriented Fe2B [002] orientation vertical to the oxidation direction (i.e., labeled as Fe2B⟂ sample), due to the blocking and barrier effect of laminated-structure boride, Si is mainly enriched in the lower part of the oxide film to form a dense SiO2 thin layer adhered to layered boride. As a result, the internal SiO2 thin layer plays an obstructed and shielded role in oxidation of the substrate, which hinders the further internal diffusion of oxygen ions and improves the anti-oxidation performance of the Fe2B⟂ sample, making the average anti-oxidation performance better than that of the Fe2B// sample.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets on patients with type 2 diabetes compared with metformin alone. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis is written based on 2020 PRISMA Extension for Chinese Herbal Medicines 2020 (PRISMA-CHM 2020) reporting guidelines. We reviewed all the relevant studies from a search of the following databases from inception to February 2022 without any language restriction: Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Google Scholar, PubMed, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Information, Wanfang Data, and the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database(CBM). Data were extracted and the quality was independently evaluated by two reviewers, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using the Cochrane software RevMan 5.3. RESULTS: Six randomized controlled trials comprising 516 participants were included. The meta-analysis revealed the Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets group was significantly superior to the metformin tablets group in terms of fasting blood glucose(FPG) (-0.66 mmol/L; 95 % CI (confidence intervals) [- 1.28, - 0.04]), plasma glucose 2 h after meal (2-h PG) (-1.18 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.94, -0.42]) in six RCTs, body mass index (BMI) (-3.07 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-6.89, 0.75]) in three RCTs, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) (-0.36 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.04, 0.31]) in three RCTs, and triglycerides (TG) (-0.76 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.37, -0.15]) in two RCTs. In two RCTs, there were significant differences in terms of total cholesterol (TC) (-0.97 mmol/L; 95 % CI [-1.18, -0.76]). CONCLUSIONS: Very low-quality research shows that Da Chaihu decoction combined with metformin tablets exert a certain level of efficacy on patients with type 2 diabetes compared with metformin alone. However, random sequence generation methodology was reported in five studies leading to the low quality of the included studies. None of the six studies depicted the blinding method, allocation concealment, selective reporting, and assessed the purity and potency of the product. This observation requires verification through high-quality, multi-center, double-blinded randomized controlled trials, and assesses the purity and potency of the product.

RESUMO

Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells are promising avenues for achieving high-performance photovoltaics with low costs. However, the highest certified efficiency of perovskite/silicon tandem devices based on economically matured silicon heterojunction technology (SHJ) with fully textured wafer is only 25.2% due to incompatibility between the limitation of fabrication technology which is not compatible with the production-line silicon wafer. Here, a molecular-level nanotechnology is developed by designing NiOx /2PACz ([2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl) ethyl]phosphonic acid) as an ultrathin hybrid hole transport layer (HTL) above indium tin oxide (ITO) recombination junction, to serve as a vital pivot for achieving a conformal deposition of high-quality perovskite layer on top. The NiOx interlayer facilitates a uniform self-assembly of 2PACz molecules onto the fully textured surface, thus avoiding direct contact between ITO and perovskite top-cell for a minimal shunt loss. As a result of such interfacial engineering, the fully textured perovskite/silicon tandem cells obtain a certified efficiency of 28.84% on a 1.2-cm2 masked area, which is the highest performance to date based on the fully textured, production-line compatible SHJ. This work advances commercially promising photovoltaics with high performance and low costs by adopting a meticulously designed HTL/perovskite interface.

RESUMO

AIM: Long non-coding RNA SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) is closely related to heart failure and myocardial damage. We attempted to investigate its role in endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injury in cardiomyocytes. MATERIALS & METHODS: Cell viability, apoptosis rate, and levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and apoptosis- and oxidative stress-related proteins were measured by MTS assay kit, flow cytometry, western blotting, and commercial kits. Physical interactions were confirmed by dual-luciferase report assay and RNA immunoprecipitation assay. RESULTS: Silencing SOX2OT and reinforcing miRNA (miR)-215-5p protected human AC16 cardiomyocytes from LPS-induced oxidative and inflammatory injuries by inhibiting intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM1). SOX2OT directly interacted with miR-215-5p, and miR-215-5p could target ICAM1. CONCLUSION: Inhibiting SOX2OT/miR-215-5p/ICAM1 axis might be a possible approach to treat myocardial damage. LAY ABSTRACT: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is an endotoxin from some bacteria including Escherichia coli, and it can cause inflammation in different tissues/cells including myocardia/cardiomyocytes, resulting in diseases such as myocarditis, cardiomyopathy, and cardiac hypertrophy. The underlying mechanism was not completely clarified, but known to include the dysregulation of non-coding RNAs. Herein, we demonstrated the biological role of long non-coding RNA SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) in LPS-infected cardiomyocytes. Eventually, we found that inhibiting the expression of SOX2OT could mitigate LPS-induced a series of injuries in human cardiomyocytes, and SOX2OT interacts with a microRNA named as miR-215-5p. Besides, restoring miR-215-5p elicited similar effects to SOX2OT knockdown. Collectively, we concluded that SOX2OT binding to miR-215-5p might protect cardiomyocytes from LPS infection through regulating an important protein named ICAM1. This study suggested SOX2OT/miR-215-5p might be novel potential treatment targets in bacterial infection-related myocardial damages.

RESUMO

Objective: Studies have shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in multiple tumor types and regulate various biological processes. The present study tried to study lncRNA TFAP2A-AS1 in HBV infection hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: The level of TFAP2A-AS1 and miR-933 in HCC cell and samples were detected by qRT-PCR assay. Luciferase reporter gene assay was carried out to study the mechanism of TFAP2A-AS1 and miR-933. Cell proliferation was measured by CCK-8 assay. HBV DNA replication was detected by RT-qPCR. Results: We firstly demonstrated that TFAP2A-AS1 was downregulated in HCC cell lines and HBV-infected HCC samples compared with nontumor tissues. However, miR-933 was upregulated in HCC cell lines and HBV-infected HCC samples compared with nontumor tissues, and miR-933 was negatively associated with the expression of TFAP2A-AS1 in HBV-correlated HCC samples. TFAP2A-AS1 and HDAC11 expression was decreased and miR-933 was upregulated in the HBV-infected cell HepG2.2.15. TFAP2A-AS1 acted as a sponge for miR-933 and HDAC11 was one direct target gene for miR-933. Overexpression of TFAP2A-AS1 suppressed cell growth, HBV DNA replication, HbeAg, and HbsAg expression, while knockdown of TFAP2A-AS1 enhanced cell proliferation, HBV DNA replication, HbeAg, and HbsAg expression in HepG2.2.15 cell. In addition, ectopic expression of miR-933 promoted cell growth, HBV DNA replication, HbeAg, and HbsAg expression in HepG2.2.15 cell. TFAP2A-AS1 suppressed HBV replication and infection through regulating HDAC11. Conclusion: These data demonstrated that TFAP2A-AS1 acted crucial roles in the modulation of HbeAg and HbsAg expression and HBV replication and may be one potential target for HBV infection treatment.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Ischemic heart disease (IHD) has always been the focus of attention of many researchers in cardiovascular disease, and its pathogenesis is also very complicated. Ferroptosis may be involved in the occurrence and development of IHD. METHODS: First, primary cardiomyocytes were treated with H2O2 to simulate the IHD in vitro model. After pretreatment with different concentrations of ferrostatin-1, cell survival rate was detected by MTT method, cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining and flow cytometry, and the expression of oxidative stress, ferroptosis, and related molecules of Nrf2/ARE pathway was detected by Western blotting (WB) and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). RESULTS: The mortality of primary cardiomyocytes in the H2O2 group was obviously increased. Ferrostatin-1 treatment can effectively inhibit cell death, improve antioxidant enzyme activity, inhibit the expression of ferroptosis-related molecules, and activate Nrf2/ARE pathway expression. CONCLUSION: Ferroptosis-specific inhibitor ferrostatin-1 relieves H2O2-induced redox imbalance in primary cardiomyocytes through the Nrf2/ARE pathway, inhibits ferroptosis, and thereby slows cardiomyocyte death.

RESUMO

Acute exacerbation of chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (AECOPD) as a respiratory disease, is considered to be related to air pollution by more and more studies. However, the evidence on how air pollution affect the incidence of AECOPD and whether there are population differences is still insufficient. Therefore, we select PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3 as representatives combined with daily AECOPD admission data from 1 January 2015 to 26 June 2016 in the rural areas of Qingyang, northwestern China to explore the associations of air pollution with AECOPD. Based on a time-stratified case-crossover design, we constructed a distributed lag nonlinear model to qualify the single and cumulative lagged effects of air pollution on AECOPD. Stratified related risks by sex and age were also reported. The cumulative exposure-response curves were approximately linear for PM2.5, "V"-shaped for PM10, "U"-shaped for NO2 and inverted-"V" for SO2, CO and O3. Exposure to high-PM2.5 (42 µg/m3), high-PM10 (91 µg/m3), high-SO2 (58 µg/m3), low-NO2 (12 µg/m3), and high-CO (1.55 mg/m3) increased the risk of AECOPD. Females aged 15-64 were more susceptible under extreme concentrations of PM2.5, SO2, CO, and low-PM10 than other subgroups. In addition, adults aged 15-64 were more sensitive to extreme concentrations of NO2 compared with the elderly ≥65 years old, while the latter were more sensitive to high-PM10. High-SO2, high-NO2, and extreme concentrations of PM2.5 had the greatest effects on the day of exposure, while low-SO2 and low-CO had lagged effects on AECOPD. Precautionary measures should be taken with a focus on vulnerable subgroups, to control hospitalization for AECOPD associated with air pollutants.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study collected randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in the social sciences in China and assessed their risk of bias and reporting quality. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Three databases were systematically searched for publications from January 2000 to June 2020 for RCTs in the social sciences published by Chinese researchers. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool, and reporting quality was assessed using the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials for Social and Psychological Interventions (CONSORT-SPI). RESULTS: A total of 316 RCTs were identified, including 204 articles in English and 112 articles in Chinese. The most frequently researched interventions focused on education (33.9%), and the most frequently studied population were students (32.9%). Eighty-seven percent of RCTs had intermediate reporting quality. Twenty-four of the 43 CONSORT-SPI sub-items had a compliance rate of less than 50%. Most RCTs had an unclear risk of bias for blinding outcome assessors (84.5%), blinding participants and personnel (82.9%), allocation concealment (73.1%), and random sequence generation (68.0%). A low proportion of CONSORT-SPI items were reported and, high proportion of the papers had unclear risk of bias. CONCLUSION: The quality and reporting of RCTs in the social sciences needs improvement in China, especially for reporting methods and results. Most studies had an unclear risk of bias as they lacked important methodological information.

RESUMO

Decorating metal oxides with wide band-gap semiconductor nano-particles constitute an important approach for synthesizing nano-photocatalysts, where the photocatalytic activity is attributed to the band diagram related effective charge separation and external in-band quantum yield (EIQY). However, up to now, the correlation between the irradiation intensity and the functionalization of the in-band quantum yield has not yet been explained. In this work, by investigating the photocatalytic activity of ZnO and CuO/ZnO (CZO) nano-photocatalysts under various irradiative intensities, we show that the effective charge separation in the CuO/ZnO band alignment is sensitive to weak illumination, while ZnO exhibits a competitive photocatalytic activity with CZO under strong illumination. As a consequence, by modifying the irradiation intensity, the intrinsic ZnO can achieve a similar photocatalytic activity to that of metal oxide decorated ZnO. Besides, the optimal photocatalytic activity of CZO is found to be reachable by manipulating the pollutant concentration.
