RESUMO

The authors followed up certain changes occurring at the level of the hypophysis-adrenal axis, during the development of experimental ulcers induced by pylorus ligature in rats treated with negative air ions. Previous experiments have shown that negative aeroionotherapy had a favourable influence on the prevention and evolution of gastric ulcers. The results of the present experiment showed that, under the influence of aeroionotherapy, the number of gastric ulcers/animal, and the relative weight of the adenohypophysis and of the adrenals glands decreased; the width of the fascicular zone of the adrenal cortex, and the volume of the cell nuclei in this fascicular zone also decreased.

RESUMO

The authors studied the influence of negative aeroionotherapy (AIT) on the gastric ulcer induced by pylorus ligature. After 24 hours the ligature was removed and the stomach was studied with respect to number and aspect of ulcers (hemorrhagic or not), periulcerous mucosa (edema, folds), acidity and microhemorrhage of gastric secretion. The animals were divided into 4 groups: C1 and C2 (controls)--not treated with air ions; P--prophylactically exposed 10 days before the operation to AIT; T--submitted to AIT prophylactically 10 days before the operation--therapeutically 5 days after operation. The results showed a favourable influence of AIT: the number of gastric ulcers was smaller; the regeneration processes in the mucosa were ameliorated; the gastric acid secretion and microhemorrhage diminished.

RESUMO

Prophylactic application (15-25 min/day for 10-15 days) of negative air ions in moderate concentrations (n- = 10,000 - 15,000; n+ under 1,000/ml air) was made in 28 young (students) outpatients suffering from gastroduodenal ulcer without a history of previous haemorrhages and who prior to aeroionotherapy had presented with recurrent painful crises (seasonally, or in periods of stress, work overpressure, examinations). Prophylactic treatment was applied with the view of preventing the painful period (tertiary prevention) and it was started about a month before the probable crisis. Air ions were produced by a corona-effect. Air ion concentrations were determined, with an Ebert-counter, at the respiration level of the exposed subjects. In 21 (75%) of the prophylactically treated patients the habitual painful crisis did not occur. These 21 patients, with favourable results were followed up the next one to two years, and the preventive treatment with air ions was applied again, a month before the winter examination session. In 15 of these patients the preventive treatment maintained its efficiency. No deterioration (painful crisis not within the usual period, or complications) occurred during the prophylactic air ion cure, or in the observation period.

RESUMO

Partial hepatectomy led to an increased oxygen consumption over the whole respiratory cycle. Association of partial hepatectomy with negative aeroionotherapy determined a decrease of oxygen consumption as compared with the partially hepatectomized animals. Negative air ionization in controls determined a decrease of oxygen consumption at the level of the NAD+ dependent enzymes. On the other hand, neither partial hepatectomy, nor negative air ionization altered the oxidative phosphorylation of mitochondria.

RESUMO

Macrophage transformation of the fibroblasts and the attraction of macrophages in cell cultures of chick embryo have been investigated. Cultures were treated with choline hydrochloride, DNA, lactalbumine hydrolysate, lysine, peptone and ATP. An intense agglomeration of macrophages in the contact area with the agar gel containing choline could be observed. Cultures treated with DNA have a great number of macrophages together with a numerous fibroblast population. In cultures treated with the other substances, macrophages also appear, yet their number is not so great. The results obtained plead for a triggering of the macrophage reaction and of the necrosis in embryo tissues and organs by substances identical or similar to those used in our cultures.
