RESUMO

Objective: Frailty increases poor clinical outcomes in older adults, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older adults in China. Research design and methods: Data were obtained from the Sample Survey of the Aged Population in Urban and Rural China in 2015, which was a cross-sectional study involving a nationally representative sample of older adults aged 60 years or older from 31 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities in mainland China. The frailty index (FI) based on 33 potential deficits was used to classify individuals as robust (FI < 0.12), pre-frail (FI ≧0.12 and <0.25) and frail (FI ≥0.25). Results: A total of 208,386 older people were included in the study, and the age-sex standardised prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty among older adults in China was 9.5% (95% CI 9.4-9.7) and 46.1% (45.9-46.3) respectively. The prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty was higher in female than in male older adults, higher in rural than in urban older adults, and higher in northern China than in southern China. The multinomial analysis revealed similar risk factors for frailty and pre-frailty, including increased age, being female, living in a rural area, low educational attainment, poor marital status, living alone, difficult financial status, poor access to medical reimbursement, and living in northern China. Conclusion: Frailty and pre-frailty are very common among older adults in China and differ significantly between southern and northern China, men and women, and rural and urban areas. Appropriate public health prevention strategies should be developed based on identified risk factors in frail and pre-frail populations. The management of frailty and pre-frailty should be optimised according to regional and gender differences in prevalence and associated factors, such as strengthening the integrated management of chronic diseases, increasing reimbursement rates for medical costs, and focusing on vulnerable groups such as the disabled, economically disadvantaged, living alone and those with low literacy levels, in order to reduce the burden of frailty among older adults in China.

RESUMO

Objective: Frailty increases adverse clinical outcomes in older patients with cardio-cerebral vascular disease (CCVD). The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in older adults with CCVD in China and the factors associated with it. Research design and methods: In this cross-sectional study, we used data from the fourth Sample Survey of Aged Population in Urban and Rural China. We used the frailty index for frailty and pre-frailty assessment, and the diagnosis of CCVD in older adults was self-reported. Results: A total of 53,668 older patients with CCVD were enrolled in the study. The age-standardized prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in older patients with CCVD was 22.6% (95% CI 22.3-23.0%) and 60.1% (95% CI 59.7-60.5%). Multinomial logistic regression analyses showed that being female, increasing age, rural residence, illiteracy, widowhood, ethnic minority, living alone, no health screening during the last year, hospitalization during the last year, difficult financial status, comorbid chronic conditions, and disability in activities of daily living were associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older patients with CCVD. Conclusion: CCVD is strongly associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older Chinese people, and assessment of frailty should become routine in the management of older CCVD patients. Appropriate public health prevention strategies should be developed based on identified risk factors for frailty in older CCVD patients, which can help prevent, ameliorate or reverse the development of frailty in CCVD in the older population.

RESUMO

Polyoxometalate-based metal-organic frameworks (POMOFs) have received wide attention in supercapacitors and H2O2 detection due to their possession of the rich redox active sites of polyoxometalates (POMs) and the ordered structure of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In this study, we successfully synthesized a host-guest Cu3[P2W18O62]@HKUST-1 (HRBNU-7) compound by a grinding method. Cu3[P2W18O62] successfully entered the HKUST-1 pores as confirmed by the results of infrared (IR) spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The specific capacitance of HRBNU-7 is 318.6 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 in a three-electrode system using nickel foam as the collector. The specific capacity retention is 92.36% after 5000 cycles. The assembled symmetrical supercapacitor (SSC) achieved a high energy density of 10.58 W h kg-1 at a power density of 500.00 W kg-1. In addition, HRBNU-7 exhibits excellent electrochemical detection of H2O2, including a wide linear range of 0.5 µM-0.3 mM, a low detection limit of 0.17 µM, and excellent selectivity and stability, and it can be effectively utilized for the analysis of H2O2 content in actual serum samples. These excellent properties are attributed to the unique redox activity of Cu3[P2W18O62] and the high specific surface area of HKUST-1. This work offers a strategy for exploring POMOFs as electrode materials in supercapacitors and electrochemical sensors.

RESUMO

Designing and preparing dual-functional Dawson-type polyoxometalate-based metal-organic framework (POMOF) energy storage materials is challenging. Here, the Dawson-type POMOF nanomaterial with the molecular formula CoK4[P2W18O62]@Co3(btc)2 (abbreviated as {P2W18}@Co-BTC, H3btc = 1,3,5-benzylcarboxylic acid) was prepared using a solid-phase grinding method. XRD, SEM, TEM et al. analyses prove that this nanomaterial has a core-shell structure of Co-BTC wrapping around the {P2W18}. In the three-electrode system, it was found that {P2W18}@Co-BTC has the best supercapacitance performance, with a specific capacitance of 490.7 F g-1 (1 A g-1) and good stability, compared to nanomaterials synthesized with different feedstock ratios and two precursors. In the symmetrical double-electrode system, both the power density (800.00 W kg-1) and the energy density (11.36 Wh kg-1) are greater. In addition, as the electrode material for the H2O2 sensor, {P2W18}@Co-BTC also exhibits a better H2O2-sensing performance, such as a wide linear range (1.9 µM-1.67 mM), low detection limit (0.633 µM), high selectivity, stability (92.4%) and high recovery for the detection of H2O2 in human serum samples. This study provides a new strategy for the development of Dawson-type POMOF nanomaterial compounds.

RESUMO

Eight well-known herbals in Zhejiang Province, Zhebawei, are commonly used as traditional Chinese herbal medicines owing to their rich active ingredients. However, the unavoidable use of pesticides during agricultural production has led to pesticide residue problems in these herbs. In this study, a simple, rapid, and accurate method was established to determine 22 triazole pesticide residues in Zhebawei. An improved QuEChERS method was used for sample pretreatment, and Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae was used as a representative sample. The sample was extracted with acetonitrile to eliminate some polar and nonpolar compounds, pigments, and other impurities, and the purification effects of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), amino-modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-NH2), carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH), crosslinked polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVPP), zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), 3-(N,N-diethylamino)-propyltrimethoxysilane (PSA), octadecyl (C18), and graphitized carbon black (GCB) were compared. MWCNTs-COOH and C18 were selected as the purification adsorbents, and their dosages were systematically optimized. The combination of 10 mg of MWCNTs-COOH and 20 mg of C18 was eventually selected as the purification adsorbents. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was used for analysis, and box graphs were plotted to present the dispersion of each group of recoveries, thus enabling the identification of the data outliers, dispersion distribution, and data symmetry. The established method was systematically verified and showed good linearity over the concentration range of 1-200 µg/L (except for bromuconazole, epoxiconazole, and etaconazole) with correlation coefficients >0.99. The average recoveries of the 22 pesticides at spiked levels of 10, 20, 100, and 200 µg/kg were in the range of 77.0%-115% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) <9.4%. The limits of detection and quantification were 1-2.5 µg/kg and 10-20 µg/kg, respectively. The applicability of the developed method to other herbals was investigated at 100 µg/kg, and the average recoveries of the target pesticides in different matrices ranged from 76.4% to 123% with RSDs <12.2%. Finally, the method established was used to detect triazole pesticide residues in 30 actual Zhebawei samples. The results showed that triazole pesticides were present in Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii and Dendranthema Morifolium. Difenoconazole was detected in Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii at contents ranging from 41.4 µg/kg to 110 µg/kg, while difenoconazole, myclobutanil, triadimenol and propiconazole were detected in Dendranthema Morifolium at contents ranging from 16.1 µg/kg to 250 µg/kg. The established method can meet the requirements for the accurate quantitative analysis of triazole fungicides in Zhebawei.

RESUMO

Studies on the differences between chiral pesticide enantiomers have caused widespread concern in the last decade. In the current work, the selective behaviors and different biological activities of paclobutrazol enantiomers during Chinese cabbage pickling process were evaluated. Results of degradation kinetics indicated that when paclobutrazol reside in raw material (Chinese cabbage) and was introduced into the pickling process, the degradation rates of the two paclobutrazol enantiomers were significantly different, the half-lives of (2R, 3R)-paclobutrazol (R-paclobutrazol) and (2S, 3S)-paclobutrazol (S-paclobutrazol) were 18.24 and 6.19 d, respectively. Besides, the conversion between the two enantiomers could also be observed, and the conversion rate of R-paclobutrazol to S-paclobutrazol was slower than that of reverse process. In addition, from the analysis of 16S rRNA and ITS sequencing, we inferred that the degradation of paclobutrazol was probably due to the presence of Pseudomonas and Serratia. Moreover, there has a significant difference in biological activity between R-paclobutrazol and S-paclobutrazol and shown an obviously enantiomeric effects on microbial community composition of pickling system. Besides, the analysis of microbial community displayed R-paclobutrazol might inhibit the growth of Erwinia (a sort of plant pathogens). Results from this study served to enhance our understanding of chiral pesticide residues on food safety and the potential risks to human health.

RESUMO

Objective: There are few studies on the prevalence and factors associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older adults with asthma worldwide. The aim of this study was to examine the epidemiological status and factors associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older adults with asthma in China. Research design and methods: Data were obtained from the Sample Survey of Aged Population in Urban and Rural China in 2015, a nationwide cross-sectional survey covering 224,142 older people aged 60 years or older in 31 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities in mainland China. We performed frailty and pre-frailty assessments using the frailty index, and the diagnosis of asthma in the older adults was self-reported based on the history of the physician's diagnosis. Results: Nine thousand four hundred sixteen older adults with asthma were included in the study. The age-sex standardized prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in Chinese older adults with asthma was 35.8% (95% CI 34.8%-36.7%) and 54.5% (95% CI 53.5%-55.5%). Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that increased age, female, illiteracy, living alone, poor economic status, ADL disability, comorbid chronic diseases, previous hospitalization in the past year, and residence in northern China were associated with frailty and pre-frailty in older adults with asthma. Conclusion: The prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in Chinese older adults with asthma is very high, and assessment of frailty should become routine in the management of older adults with asthma. Appropriate public health prevention strategies based on identified risk factors for frailty in older adults with asthma should be developed to reduce the burden of frailty in Chinese older adults with asthma.

RESUMO

Background: Chronic stress (CS) could produce negative emotions. The molecular mechanism of SGLT1 and SGLT2 in kidney injury caused by chronic stress combined with atherosclerosis remains unclear. Methods: In total, 60 C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into four groups, namely, control (CON, n = 15), control diet + chronic stress (CON+CS, n = 15), high-fat diet + Apoe-/- (HF + Apoe-/-, n = 15), and high-fat diet + Apoe-/- + chronic stress (HF+Apoe-/- + CS, n = 15) groups. The elevated plus maze and open field tests were performed to examine the effect of chronic stress. The expression of SGLT1 and SGLT2 in the kidney was detected. The support vector machine (SVM) and back propagation (BP) neural network model were constructed to explore the predictive value of the expression of SGLT1/2 on the renal pathological changes. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used. Results: A chronic stress model and atherosclerosis model were constructed successfully. Edema, broken reticular fiber, and increased glycogen in the kidney would be obvious in the HF + Apoe-/- + CS group. Compared with the CON group, the expression of SGLT1/2 in the kidney was upregulated in the HF + Apoe-/- + CS group (P < 0.05). There existed positive correlations among edema, glycogen, reticular fiber, expression of SGLT1/2 in the kidney. There were higher sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis of SGLT1/2 for edema, reticular fiber, and glycogen in the kidney. The result of the SVM and BP neural network model showed better predictive values of SGLT1 and SGLT2 for edema and glycogen in the kidney. Conclusion: In conclusion, SGLT1/2 might be potential biomarkers of renal damage under Apoe-/- and chronic stress, which provided a potential research direction for future related explorations into this mechanism.

RESUMO

A simple and efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method was established with magnetic covalent organic framework (COF) as adsorbent to enrich organophosphorus pesticides from fatty milk samples, followed by the sensitive determination via LC-MS/MS. The key parameters influencing the MSPE efficiency were comprehensively investigated to afford an optimized procedure. All the target analytes could be captured directly by magnetic COF from milk without protein precipitation, making the pretreatment rapid and convenient. Systematic method validation demonstrated its satisfactory linearity, recoveries (80.0-105 %), and precision (RSDs <12.3 %). The method limits of quantification were 0.2-0.5 µg L-1. A comparison experiment to the reported solid-phase extraction fully verified the present MSPE more rapid, accurate, and environment-friendly. Furthermore, FT-IR and XPS analysis were performed to reveal the adsorption mechanisms of magnetic COF to organophosphorus pesticides, which could offer guidance on the rational design of COF adsorbent for various target analytes.

RESUMO

A high-throughput and environmentally friendly method based on 96-well plate thin-film microextraction was established to determine 14 fungicides in grapes and grape juice using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The thin-film microextraction optimized method consisted of 60 min of extraction at pH 6.0 with the addition of sodium chloride (2-5%). Acetonitrile/water in the ratio of 8:2 was used for desorption analytes for 60 min. Evaluation of different extractive phases showed that polyacrylonitrile-polystyrene-divinylbenzene was the optimum coating. The linearity of the method was good in the range of 0.01-0.5 µg/mL for 14 fungicides with determination coefficients (R2 ) from 0.990 to 0.999, which indicated good linearity for both the grape juice and grape matrixes. The limit of detection was in the range of 0.002-0.01 µg/mL. The limit of quantitation was in the range of 0.01 mg/kg according to the minimum fortified level. The average absolute recoveries of the 14 fungicides ranged from 75.0 to 118.3%. The intraday relative standard deviation (n = 4) and interday relative standard deviation (n = 4) were 5.6-13.0% and 1.6-6.4%, respectively. This study showed that this method can be used for analyzing 96 samples in parallel, and the sample preparation time was approximately 2.0 min per sample. In addition, this approach offers a green and low-cost sample pretreatment technique for future analyses.

RESUMO

Ibuprofen and salicylic acid, two typical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are used commonly as analgesic drug in clinical medicine and sometimes are co-administered. When the drugs are co-administered, the drug-drug interactions may occur, and can lead to alter the safety and efficacy of drugs, resulting in variations in drug response of the co-administered drugs. Affinity capillary electrophoresis (ACE) was employed to investigate the competitive binding of ibuprofen and salicylic acid on serum albumin. Mobility ratio, derivatives from mobility shift method, was used to deduce the binding constant (K(b)). The binding constants of ibuprofen with HSA are 2.97×106 M⁻¹ and 7.07×104 M⁻¹, respectively; while for salicylic acid, the binding constant is 5.99×104 M⁻¹. The competitive binding of the two drugs was investigated by addition of excessive ibuprofen into the solutions containing constant concentrations of salicylic acid and serum albumin. The results confirmed that ibuprofen and salicylic acid have different high-affinity binding site, but share some low-affinity binding sites on the serum albumin; and ibuprofen is able to partially replace salicylic acid from the preformed binary complexes of serum albumin and salicylic acid.
