RESUMO

This study aimed to scrutinize the relationship between physical exercise and hypertension, taking into account multiple variables such as age, body mass index (BMI), family history, smoking, and alcohol consumption in the Southern Sichuan population, China, using a retrospective approach based on hospital record data. This retrospective study analyzed data from 946 participants obtained from a hospital electronic medical record system. The data included information regarding participants' lifestyle factors, family history, and a clinical diagnosis of hypertension. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to identify the association between lifestyle factors and hypertension. The study found a hypertension prevalence of 38.5% in the analyzed population. Multivariate analyses identified significant factors associated with hypertension as age (odds ratio [OR]: 1.045, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.036-1.054), BMI (OR: 1.107, 95% CI: 1.084-1.132), smoking (OR: 2.299, 95% CI: 1.674-3.157), alcohol consumption (OR: 0.644, 95% CI: 0.478-0.867), and physical exercise (OR: 0.682, 95% CI: 0.506-0.920). Findings from this hospital record-based retrospective study reinforce the multifactorial nature of hypertension. They highlight the significance of physical exercise, along with maintaining optimal BMI and encouraging healthy habits like nonsmoking and moderate alcohol consumption in hypertension prevention. Our findings also underscore the need for future prospective studies to establish causality and explore the generalizability of these results beyond the Southern Sichuan population.

One-pot synthesis of novel hydrogel-based anion exchange membranes (AEMs), with only a single-phase monomer mixture, was used to eliminate surface heterogeneity and generate reproducible electroconvective microvortices in the over-limiting region of the current-voltage characteristic (CVC) curves. Diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DDA) was used as the main component to provide the cation charge groups, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and ethylene glycol dimethyl acrylate (EGDMA) were used as the auxiliary structure monomers. The uniform membrane structure allowed reproducible and sensitive DNA detection and quantification, as probe-target surface complexes can gate the ion flux and produce large voltage shifts in the over-limiting region. Suppressed membrane curvature due to controlled swelling is a crucial part to avoid the reduction of depletion region for maintaining the influence of target gene hybridization. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy verified the synthesized membrane structure, with a residual vinyl group that allows easy carboxylation via additional photografting reaction. Consequently, a significantly higher DNA probe functionalization efficiency is obtained on the homogeneous AEMs, evidenced by the increasing nitrogen element content and bonding via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The DDA content was optimized to provide a sufficient coulomb force between AEM and nucleic acid backbone to promote the specific binding efficiency but without high dimensional swelling which might change the surface geometry and restrict the voltage shifting for sensing in the over-limiting region, and the optimal DDA/HEMA ratio was found to be 4/10. The synthesized AEM sensor for recombinant 35S promoter sequence identification exhibited a reproducible calibration standard curve with dynamic range between 30 fM and 1 µM and high selectivity with only 0.01 V shift for 1 µM nontarget oligo.

Interactions between cultural heritage, tourism, and pedagogy deserve investigation in an as-built environment under a macro- or micro-perspective of urban fabric. The heritage site of Shih Yih Hall, Lukang, was explored. An Augmented Reality Tourism System (ARTS) was developed on a smartphone-based platform for a novel application scenario using 3D scans converted from a point cloud to a portable interaction size. ARTS comprises a real-time environment viewing module, a space-switching module, and an Augmented Reality (AR) guide graphic module. The system facilitates scenario initiations, projection and superimposition, annotation, and interface customization, with software tools developed using ARKit® on the iPhone XS Max®. The three-way interaction between urban fabric, cultural heritage tourism, and pedagogy was made possible through background block-outs and an additive or selective display. The illustration of the full-scale experience of the smartphone app was made feasible for co-relating the cultural dependence of urban fabric on tourism. The great fidelity of 3D scans and AR scenes act as a pedagogical aid for students or tourists. A Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ) evaluation verified the usefulness of ARTS.

Echinostoma miyagawai (Trematoda: Echinostomatidae) is a common parasite of poultry that also infects humans. Es. miyagawai belongs to the "37 collar-spined" or "revolutum" group, which is very difficult to identify and classify based only on morphological characters. Molecular techniques can resolve this problem. The present study, for the first time, determined, and presented the complete Es. miyagawai mitochondrial genome. A comparative analysis of closely related species, and a reconstruction of Echinostomatidae phylogeny among the trematodes, is also presented. The Es. miyagawai mitochondrial genome is 14,416 bp in size, and contains 12 protein-coding genes (cox1-3, nad1-6, nad4L, cytb, and atp6), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and one non-coding region (NCR). All Es. miyagawai genes are transcribed in the same direction, and gene arrangement in Es. miyagawai is identical to six other Echinostomatidae and Echinochasmidae species. The complete Es. miyagawai mitochondrial genome A + T content is 65.3%, and full-length, pair-wise nucleotide sequence identity between the six species within the two families range from 64.2-84.6%. The Es. miyagawai sequences is most similar to Echinostoma caproni. Sequence difference are 15.0-33.5% at the nucleotide level, and 8.6-44.2% at the amino acid level, among the six species, for the 12 protein-coding genes. ATG and TAG are the most common initiation and termination codons, respectively. Twenty of the Es. miyagawai transfer RNA genes transcribe products of the conventional cloverleaf structure, while two of the transfer RNA genes, namely trnS1(AGC) and trnS2(UGA), have unpaired D-arms. Phylogenetic analyses using our mitochondrial data indicate that Es. miyagawai is closely related to other Echinostomatidae species, except for Echinostoma hortense, which forms a distinct paraphyletic branch, and Echinochasmus japonicus, which is outside the clade containing all other Echinostomatidae species. These phylogenetic results support the elevation of subfamily Echinostomatidae. Our dataset also provides a significant resource of molecular markers to study the taxonomy, population genetics, and systematics of the echinostomatids.

RESUMO

The complete mitochondrial genome of Amblyomma geoemydae is reported for the first time in this study. Its entire mitogenome is 14,780 bp in length, contained 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and two non-coding regions. The phylogenetic analysis by Maximum-likelihood method show that A. geoemydae and the others of genus Amblyomma are in the same clade, indicating that A. geoemydae belongs to the genus Amblyomma.

Traditional egress routes are normally indicated on floor plans and function as designed, assuming that people can identify their relative location and orientation. However, the evacuation process can easily become complicated in a dark or hazardous environment with potential blockage of unexpected obstacles. This study developed the mobile AR indoor navigation system (MARINS) using a smartphone as a device to guide users to exits in a 0-lux setting with the path only illuminated by the phone camera's LED. The system is developed using Apple ARKit SDK with the associated simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) function on a Unity platform in four modules. A maze scenario is planned in an environment built by carton walls. Time and distance traveled by the experimental group and the control group are measured. The results of statistical analysis demonstrate that the MARINS system can reduce travel time in known space and in total summation compared to the application of a traditional map. The system also reduces travel distance and misjudgments with higher system usability than the application of a traditional map.
