Tomatoes are frequently challenged by various pathogens, among which Phytophthora capsici (P. capsici) is a destructive soil-borne pathogen that seriously threatens the safe production of tomatoes. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) positively induced plant resistance against multiple pathogens. However, little is known about the role and regulatory mechanism of PGPR in tomato resistance to P. capsici. Here, we identified a new strain Serratia plymuthica (S. plymuthica), HK9-3, which has a significant antibacterial effect on P. capsici infection. Meanwhile, stable colonization in roots by HK9-3, even under P. capsici infection, improved tomato growth parameters, root system architecture, photosynthetic capacity, and boosted biomass. Importantly, HK9-3 colonization significantly alleviated the damage caused by P. capsici infection through enhancing ROS scavenger ability and inducing antioxidant defense system and pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins in leaves, as evidenced by elevating the activities of peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), polyphenol oxidase (PPO), and chitinase, ß-1,3-glucanase, and increasing the transcripts of POD, SOD, CAT, APX1, PAL1, PAL2, PAL5, PPO2, CHI17 and ß-1,3-glucanase genes. Notably, HK9-3 colonization not only effectively improved soil microecology and soil fertility, but also significantly enhanced fruit yield by 44.6% and improved quality. Our study presents HK9-3 as a promising and effective solution for controlling P. capsici infection in tomato cultivation while simultaneously promoting plant growth and increasing yield, which may have implications for P. capsici control in vegetable production.

Background: The basic medical education stage is not enough to support physicians to fully diagnose and evaluate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The study aims to discover the difference in treatment choice between participants with different annual consultation number of PCOS, to promote lifelong learning, and drive balanced development within healthcare. Methods: This is a multicenter cross-sectional survey. Participants' basic information, knowledge of PCOS and treatment options were collected online. According to the annual consultation number of patients with PCOS, physicians were divided into three groups: 0-50 people/yr, 50-200 people/yr, and >200 people/yr, and the results were derived from χ2 test, Fisher exact test, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: The study analyzed 1689 questionnaires, and 1206 physicians (71.4%) received less than 50 women per year, 388 physicians (30.0%) with an annual number of 50-200 women, and 95 physicians (5.6%) with patient turnover for more than 200 people. Reproductive endocrinologists generally have higher access to the clinic. As the number of visits increases, more and more physicians would perceive patients as more likely to have abnormal blood glucose and heavy weight. Physicians with large numbers of consultations are more likely to use Asian or Chinese standards to assess obesity. The multivariate analysis involved variables such as age, hospital level, specialty, and patient turnover annually, and more young doctors actively assessed lipid profile (odds ratio (OR) 1.56, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.16, 2.16)), and primary hospitals (OR 0.65 CI (0.44, 0.89)) chose OGTT for blood glucose assessment less than tertiary hospitals. Physicians in secondary hospitals are more aggressive in evaluating androgens. Conclusion: Our survey found differences in endocrine assessment, metabolic screening, and treatment in PCOS women in terms of the number of obstetrician-gynecologists who received different patient consultation numbers. The importance of continuing education for physicians is emphasized, to promote lifelong learning.

Background: Adequate evaluation of degrees of liver cirrhosis is essential in surgical treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The impact of the degrees of cirrhosis on prediction of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) remains poorly defined. This study aimed to construct and validate a combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram based on the degrees of cirrhosis in predicting PHLF in HCC patients using prospective multi-center's data. Methods: Consecutive HCC patients who underwent hepatectomy between May 18, 2019 and Dec 19, 2020 were enrolled at five tertiary hospitals. Preoperative cirrhotic severity scoring (CSS) and intra-operative direct liver stiffness measurement (DSM) were performed to correlate with the Laennec histopathological grading system. The performances of the pre-operative nomogram and combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram in predicting PHLF were compared with conventional predictive models of PHLF. Results: For 327 patients in this study, histopathological studies showed the rates of HCC patients with no, mild, moderate, and severe cirrhosis were 41.9%, 29.1%, 22.9%, and 6.1%, respectively. Either CSS or DSM was closely correlated with histopathological stages of cirrhosis. Thirty-three (10.1%) patients developed PHLF. The 30- and 90-day mortality rates were 0.9%. Multivariate regression analysis showed four pre-operative variables [HBV-DNA level, ICG-R15, prothrombin time (PT), and CSS], and one intra-operative variable (DSM) to be independent risk factors of PHLF. The pre-operative nomogram was constructed based on these four pre-operative variables together with total bilirubin. The combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram was constructed by adding the intra-operative DSM. The pre-operative nomogram was better than the conventional models in predicting PHLF. The prediction was further improved with the combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram. Conclusions: The combined pre- and intra-operative nomogram further improved prediction of PHLF when compared with the pre-operative nomogram. Numerous neurological disorders share a fatal pathologic process known as glutamate excitotoxicity. Among which, ischemic stroke is the major cause of mortality and disability worldwide. For a long time, the main idea of developing anti-excitotoxic neuroprotective agents was to block glutamate receptors. Despite this, there has been little successful clinical translation to date. After decades of "neuron-centered" views, a growing number of studies have recently revealed the importance of non-neuronal cells. Glial cells, cerebral microvascular endothelial cells, blood cells, and so forth are extensively engaged in glutamate synthesis, release, reuptake, and metabolism. They also express functional glutamate receptors and can listen and respond for fast synaptic transmission. This broadens the thoughts of developing excitotoxicity antagonists. In this review, the critical contribution of non-neuronal cells in glutamate excitotoxicity during ischemic stroke will be emphasized in detail, and the latest research progress as well as corresponding therapeutic strategies will be updated at length, aiming to reconceptualize glutamate excitotoxicity in a non-neuronal perspective.

Salinity stress badly restricts the growth, yield and quality of vegetable crops. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) is a friendly and effective mean to enhance plant growth and salt tolerance. However, information on the regulatory mechanism of PGPR on vegetable crops in response to salt stress is still incomplete. Here, we screened a novel salt-tolerant PGPR strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa HG28-5 by evaluating the tomatoes growth performance, chlorophyll fluorescence index, and relative electrolyte leakage (REL) under normal and salinity conditions. Results showed that HG28-5 colonization improved seedling growth parameters by increasing the plant height (23.7%), stem diameter (14.6%), fresh and dry weight in the shoot (60.3%, 91.1%) and root (70.1%, 92.5%), compared to salt-stressed plants without colonization. Likewise, HG28-5 increased levels of maximum photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) (99.3%), the antioxidant enzyme activities as superoxide dismutase (SOD, 85.5%), peroxidase (POD, 35.2%), catalase (CAT, 20.6%), and reduced the REL (48.2%), MDA content (41.3%) and ROS accumulation in leaves of WT tomatoes under salt stress in comparison with the plants treated with NaCl alone. Importantly, Na+ content of HG28-5 colonized salt-stressed WT plants were decreased by15.5% in the leaves and 26.6% in the roots in the corresponding non-colonized salt-stressed plants, which may be attributed to the higher K+ concentration and SOS1, SOS2, HKT1;2, NHX1 transcript levels in leaves of colonized plants under saline condition. Interestingly, increased abscisic acid (ABA) content and upregulation of ABA pathway genes (ABA synthesis-related genes NCED1, NCED2, NCED4, NECD6 and signal genes ABF4, ABI5, and AREB) were observed in HG28-5 inoculated salt-stressed WT plants. ABA-deficient mutant (not) with NCED1 deficiency abolishes the effect of HG28-5 on alleviating salt stress in tomato, as exhibited by the substantial rise of REL and ROS accumulation and sharp drop of Fv/Fm in the leaves of not mutant plants. Notably, HG28-5 colonization enhances tomatoes fruit yield by 54.9% and 52.4% under normal and saline water irrigation, respectively. Overall, our study shows that HG28-5 colonization can significantly enhance salt tolerance and improved fruit yield by a variety of plant protection mechanism, including reducing oxidative stress, regulating plant growth, Na+/K+ homeostasis and ABA signaling pathways in tomato. The findings not only deepen our understanding of PGPR regulation plant growth and salt tolerance but also allow us to apply HG28-5 as a microbial fertilizer for agricultural production in high-salinity areas.

Secondary phase precipitation in Fe-22Mn-9Al-0.6C low-density steel was investigated during a continuous cooling process with different cooling rates through a DIL805A thermal expansion dilatometer, and the changes in microstructures and hardness by different cooling rates were discussed. The results showed that the matrix of the Fe-22Mn-9Al-0.6C was composed of austenite and δ-ferrite; moreover, the secondary phases included κ-carbide, ß-Mn and DO3 at room temperature. The precipitation temperatures of 858 °C, 709 °C and 495 °C corresponded to the secondary phases B2, κ-carbide and ß-Mn, respectively, which were obtained from the thermal expansion curve by the tangent method. When the cooling rate was slow, it had enough time to accommodate C-poor and Al-rich regions in the austenite due to amplitude modulation decomposition. Furthermore, the Al enrichment promoted δ-ferrite formation. Meanwhile, the subsequent formation of κ-carbide and ß-Mn occurred through the continuous diffusion of C and Mn into austenite. In addition, the hardness of austenite was high at 0.03 °C/s due to the κ-carbide and ß-Mn production and C enrichment, and it was inversely proportional to the cooling rate. It can be concluded that the presence of κ-carbide, DO3 and ß-Mn produced at the austenitic/ferrite interface when the cooling rate was below 0.1 °C/s resulted in κ-carbide and ß-Mn precipitating hardly at cooling rates exceeding 0.1 °C/s, which provides a guideline for the industrial production of Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steel in the design of the hot working process.

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a serious health concern because of its high morbidity and mortality. The prognosis of HCC largely depends on the disease stage at diagnosis. Computed tomography (CT) image textural analysis is an image analysis technique that has emerged in recent years. OBJECTIVE: To probe the feasibility of a CT radiomic model for predicting early (stages 0, A) and intermediate (stage B) HCC using Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) staging. METHODS: A total of 190 patients with stages 0, A, or B HCC according to CT-enhanced arterial and portal vein phase images were retrospectively assessed. The lesions were delineated manually to construct a region of interest (ROI) consisting of the entire tumor mass. Consequently, the textural profiles of the ROIs were extracted by specific software. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator dimensionality reduction was used to screen the textural profiles and obtain the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values. RESULTS: Within the test cohort, the area under the curve (AUC) values associated with arterial-phase images and BCLC stages 0, A, and B disease were 0.99, 0.98, and 0.99, respectively. The overall accuracy rate was 92.7%. The AUC values associated with portal vein phase images and BCLC stages 0, A, and B disease were 0.98, 0.95, and 0.99, respectively, with an overall accuracy of 90.9%. CONCLUSION: The CT radiomic model can be used to predict the BCLC stage of early-stage and intermediate-stage HCC.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Treg/Th1 imbalance in cadmium-induced lung injury and the potential protective effect of astilbin against cadmium-induced lung injury in chicken. Cadmium exposure significantly decreased T-AOC and GSH-Px levels and SOD activity in the chicken lung tissues. In contrast, it significantly increased the MDA and NO levels. These results indicate that cadmium triggers oxidative stress in lungs. Histopathological analysis revealed that cadmium exposure further induced infiltration of lymphocytes in the chicken lungs, indicating that cadmium causes pulmonary damage. Further analysis revealed that cadmium decreased the expression of IL-4 and IL-10 but increased those of IL-17, Foxp3, TNF-α, and TGF-ß, indicating that the exposure of cadmium induced the imbalance of Treg/Th1. Moreover, cadmium adversely affected chicken lung function by activating the NF-kB pathway and inducing expression of genes downstream to these pathways (COX-2, iNOS), associated with inflammatory injury in the lung tissue. Astilbin reduced cadmium-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in the lungs by increasing antioxidant enzyme activities and restoring Treg/Th1 balance. In conclusion, our results suggest that astilbin treatment alleviated the effects of cadmium-mediated lung injury in chickens by restoring the Treg/Th1 balance.

BACKGROUND: Internalizing and externalizing problems have received great attention, and children with ADHD exhibit high rates of comorbid internalizing and externalizing disorders. This study aimed to explore the relationship between sleep and internalizing problems in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the probable mediating role of externalizing problems. METHODS: A total of 203 primary school children diagnosed with ADHD for the first time were recruited for this study. Children with ADHD were evaluated by Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ), Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Internalizing problems were represented by emotional symptoms and peer problems of SDQ, and externalizing problems were represented by conduct problems and hyperactivity-inattention problems of SDQ. Multi-step linear regression analysis was used to investigate the mediating effect of externalizing problems on the relationship between sleep and internalizing problems. RESULTS: Sleep in children with ADHD was associated with emotional problems in internalizing problems, and conduct problems in externalizing problems mediated the association between sleep and emotional problems. CONCLUSION: For children with ADHD, when it is difficult to identify internalizing problems, especially emotional problems, we can take sleep and externalizing problems as clues to improve our clinical ability to recognize and deal with emotional problems. IMPACT: 1. We first explored the possible mediating role of conduct problems between sleep and emotional problems in primary school children with ADHD. 2. When it is difficult to identify internalizing problems, especially emotional problems, we can take sleep and externalizing problems as clues to improve our clinical ability to recognize emotional problems for children with ADHD. 3. For children with ADHD with potential internalizing problems, especially emotional problems, interventions for their sleep and externalizing problems may be the possible methods to deal with.

Prolonged screen time (ST) has adverse effects on autistic characteristics and language development. However, the mechanisms underlying the effects of prolonged ST on the neurodevelopment of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) remain unclear. Neuroimaging technology may help to further explain the role of prolonged ST in individuals with ASD. This study included 164 cases, all cases were divided into low-dose ST exposure (LDE group 108 cases) and high-dose ST exposure (HDE group 56 cases) based on the average ST of all subjects. Spatial independent component analysis (ICA) was used to identify resting state networks (RSNs) and investigate intra- and inter-network alterations in ASD children with prolonged ST. We found that the total Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) scores in the HDE group were significantly higher than those in the LDE group (36.2 ± 3.1 vs. 34.6 ± 3.9, p = 0.008). In addition, the developmental quotient (DQ) of hearing and language in the HDE group were significantly lower than those in the LDE group (31.5 ± 13.1 vs. 42.5 ± 18.5, p < 0.001). A total of 13 independent components (ICs) were identified. Between-group comparison revealed that the HDE group exhibited decreased functional connectivity (FC) in the left precuneus (PCUN) of the default mode network (DMN), the right middle temporal gyrus (MTG) of the executive control network (ECN), and the right median cingulate and paracingulate gyri (MCG) of the attention network (ATN), compared with the LDE group. Additionally, there was an increase in FC in the right orbital part of the middle frontal gyrus (ORBmid) of the salience network (SAN), compared with the LDE group. The inter-network analysis revealed increased FC between the visual network (VN) and basal ganglia (BG) and decreased FC between the sensorimotor network (SMN) and DMN, SMN and ATN, SMN and auditory network (AUN), and DMN and SAN in the HDE group, compared with the LDE group. There was a significant negative correlation between altered FC values in MTG and total CARS scores in subjects (r = - 0.18, p = 0.018).  Conclusion: ASD children with prolonged ST often exhibit lower DQ of language development and more severe autistic characteristics. The alteration of intra- and inter-network FC may be a key neuroimaging feature of the effect of prolonged ST on neurodevelopment in ASD children.  Clinical trial registration: ChiCTR2100051141. What is Known: • Prolonged ST has adverse effects on autistic characteristics and language development. • Neuroimaging technology may help to further explain the role of prolonged ST in ASD. What is New: • This is the first study to explore the impact of ST on intra- and inter-network FC in children with ASD. • ASD children with prolonged ST have atypical changes in intra- and inter-brain network FC.

The surface morphologies of polymer films have been used to improve the performance or enable new applications of films, such as controllable adhesion, shape morphing and light management. However, complicated and destructive methods were applied to produce surface morphologies on chitosan (CS) film. To overcome this challenge, we report an evaporation-induced self-assembly to form the tunable morphologies on the surface of short-chain chitosan film by varying the evaporation rates that influence the aggregation behavior of polymer chains between order and disorder. It enables the simple, tunable and scalable fabrication of surface morphologies on CS film (CS solution concentration: 2 wt%, drying from room temperature (RT) to 80 °C) that provides controllable haze (3-74 %) and high transmittance (>85 %) for the production of hazy and transparent window coatings. This simple approach to producing tunable surface morphologies could inspire the synthesis of multifunctional polymer films with different surface structures, whose applications can be extended to cell culture interfaces, flexible bioelectronic and optoelectronic devices.

INTRODUCTION: The TOujeo BEyond glucose control (TOBE) study evaluated clinical outcomes with insulin glargine 300 units/mL (Gla-300) in insulin-naïve Korean people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a real-world setting. METHODS: This 24-week, prospective, non-interventional, multicenter, open-label, single-arm, observational study included adults aged ≥ 20 years with T2DM suboptimally controlled with oral hypoglycemic agents and/or glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists who require basal insulin. Eligible participants were assigned to either general target glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c < 7%) or individualized target groups as per physician's discretion considering guidelines and participants' characteristics. The primary endpoint was the proportion of participants achieving the HbA1c target (individualized or general) at 24 weeks. RESULTS: Among 369 participants, 19.5% (72/369) of participants achieved the HbA1c target at week 24; 37.5% (33/88) in the individualized and 13.9% (39/281) in the general target group. In both target groups, similar reductions in fasting plasma glucose and body weight were observed, with low incidence of hypoglycemia, and T2DM duration was significantly shorter in participants who did versus those who did not achieve the target HbA1c (individualized target group: 9.6 ± 8.0 versus 13.1 ± 8.4 years, P = 0.0454; general target group: 10.2 ± 8.6 versus 12.8 ± 7.4 years, P = 0.0378). CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that initiation of insulin therapy with Gla-300 in people with T2DM using an individualized approach is more effective in achieving an HbA1c target. Moreover, earlier initiation of insulin therapy in people with suboptimally controlled T2DM may increase the success rate of glycemic control. A graphical abstract is available with this article.


Despite various efforts in managing diabetes, individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) encounter numerous challenges to achieve good glycemic control. The major cause is failure to initiate insulin therapy in a timely manner, primarily because of the fear of hypoglycemia. Insulin glargine 300 units/mL (Gla-300) has smooth and prolonged activity resulting in stable and sustained glycemic control, thus reducing the risk of hypoglycemia. Studies on efficacy and safety of Gla-300 in various populations have been published globally. However, there are limited real-world studies in Asian populations. This study evaluated effectiveness and safety of Gla-300 in Korean people with T2DM who were not on insulin prior to this study but were taking oral glucose-lowering medications. The participants were assigned to two groups: general glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) target (HbA1c < 7%) and individualized HbA1c target according to the participant's characteristics. Results showed that Gla-300 helped to achieve the glycemic target more effectively using an individualized approach. In both groups, similar reductions in fasting plasma glucose and body weight were observed, with low incidence of hypoglycemia. People who achieve glycemic target had a shorter duration of T2DM than those who did not achieve their glycemic target. This suggests that earlier insulin initiation may be a better approach and may increase the success rate of insulin therapy.

This study tested the effectiveness of a nursing program developed based on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) in improving self-care skills and mental health among community-dwelling older adults at risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). A total of 120 older adults were randomly assigned to either an SFBT group or a control group. Participants' self-care ability, depressive symptoms, and anxiety at baseline and post-intervention were assessed using the Self-care Ability Scale for the Elderly (SASE), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), respectively. The t-test, Mann-Whitney U, and chi-square tests were conducted for group comparisons. After 6 months of intervention, the intervention group had significantly higher self-concept, self-skills, self-care awareness, and health knowledge scores than the baseline and the control group (all P-values < 0.05). The intervention group had significantly lower depression and anxiety scores than the baseline and the control group (all P-values < 0.05). SFBT is effective in improving older adults' self-care and mental health and may be widely applied among older adults to prevent CHD and promote well-being in the future.

This study investigates the influence of varying austenitizing temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 35Si2MnCr2Ni3MoV steel, utilizing Charpy impact testing and microscopic analysis techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The findings reveal that optimal combination of strength and toughness is achieved at an austenitizing temperature of 980 °C, resulting in an impact toughness of 67.2 J and a tensile strength of 2032 MPa. The prior austenite grain size initially decreases slightly with increasing temperature, then enlarges significantly beyond 1100 °C. The martensite blocks' and packets' structures exhibit a similar trend. The proportion of high-angle grain boundaries, determined by the density of the packets, peaks at 980 °C, providing maximal resistance to crack propagation. The amount of retained austenite increases noticeably after 980 °C; beyond 1200 °C, the coarsening of packets and a decrease in density reduce the likelihood of trapping retained austenite. Across different austenitizing temperatures, the steel demonstrates superior crack initiation resistance compared to crack propagation resistance, with the fracture mode transitioning from ductile dimple fracture to quasi-cleavage fracture as the austenitizing temperature increases.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the characteristics of brain injury and to assess the relationship between them and treatment outcomes in patients with traumatic benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (t-BPPV). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-three consecutive patients who were diagnosed with BPPV within 2 weeks after head trauma were included. RESULTS: Cerebral concussion, intracranial hemorrhages (ICH), skull fracture without ICH, and hemorrhagic contusion were observed in 68%, 24%, 5%, and 3% of t-BPPV patients, respectively. BPPV with single canal involvement was observed in 52 (83%) patients and that with multiple canal involvement was observed in 11 (17%) patients. The number of treatment sessions was not significantly different according to the cause of head trauma (p = 0.252), type of brain injury (p = 0.308) or location of head trauma (p = 0.287). The number of recurrences was not significantly different according to the cause of head trauma (p = 0.308), type of brain injury (p = 0.536) or location of head trauma (p = 0.138). CONCLUSION: The present study demonstrated that there were no significant differences in treatment sessions until resolution and the mean number of recurrences according to the type of brain injury.

BACKGROUND: Limited study has investigated the influence of parent-child interaction on brain functional alterations and development outcomes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children. This pilot study aimed to explore the relationship between parent-child interaction, brain functional activities and development outcomes of ASD children. METHODS: and Procedures: 653 ASD with an average age of 41.06 ± 10.88 months and 102 typically developmental (TD) children with an average age of 44.35 ± 18.39 months were enrolled in this study, of whom 155 ASD completed brain rs-fMRI scans. The amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) measured using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data reflect local brain function. The parent-child interaction was assessed by the Chinese Parent-child Interaction Scale (CPCIS). Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) and developmental quotient (DQ) indicated development outcomes. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS: Total CPCIS score was negatively correlated with CARS total score, and positively correlated with DQ. The frequency of parent-child interaction was negatively correlated with ALFF values in the left median cingulate and paracingulate gyri (DCG.L) and ReHo values in the right superior frontal gyrus, medial (SFGmed.R)(P < 0.05, FDR correction). ALFF values in the DCG.L and ReHo values in the SFGmed.R play complete mediating roles in the relationship between parent-child interaction and performance DQ. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS: This study suggest that parent-child interaction has an impact on autistic characteristics and DQ of ASD children. Local brain regions with functional abnormalities in the DCG.L and SFGmed.R may be a crucial factors affecting the performance development of ASD children with reduced parent-child interaction.

The effect of aging treatments at various temperatures on the mechanical properties and microstructure of 10B21 cold heading steel with a 20% reduction in area (ε = 0.1) was investigated. The mechanical properties were evaluated based on tensile tests and hardness tests, while the evolution of microstructure was observed by using an optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results reveal that aging treatment enhance the strength and hardness of 10B21 cold heading steel after drawing, and the highest values of strength and hardness are attained at an aging temperature of 300 °C. Specifically, the yield and ultrahigh tensile strength after aging at 300 °C are measured at 620 MPa and 685 MPa, respectively, which are 30 MPa and 50 MPa higher than the cold-drawn sample. Moreover, the hardness after aging at 300 °C reaches 293 HV, which has an increase of 30 HV compared to the cold-drawn state. The improvement in mechanical properties may be related to the strain-aging mechanism and the increased density of dislocations. In addition, the analysis of the TEM results reveal that the presence of the second-phase Ti(C,N) contributes to pinning the dislocations, whereas the dislocations are pinned between the cementite (Fe3C) lamellar and stacked at the grain boundaries, leading to strain hardening of the material.

This study aims to investigate in situ the three-dimensional (3D) morphology and distribution of primary carbides (PCs) in electro-slag remelting (ESR) forged 30Cr3Ni3Mo2V steel. A facile non-aqueous electrolytic etching method was applied to prepare 3D PCs on the matrix. The morphology, composition, and element concentrations of PCs were characterized using a combination of optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and electron back-scattered diffusion (EBSD). The precipitation, type, and composition of PCs in the same steel were also simulated using Thermo-Calc software Version 2015a. The results indicate that PC is rich in Nb, which is a potential heterogeneous nucleating agent. Both the size and number of PCs increase from the edge to the center of the ingot. The large-sized PCs present three dominant types of morphology, which vary in different regions, i.e., a bulky type dominates in the edge region, a lamellar type dominates in the middle region, and a stripy type dominates in the core region. The results of EBSD analysis show that the orientation of PCs with different morphologies is different and that more nanosized V-rich type carbides are precipitated on the matrix. The thermodynamic calculations show that MC precipitates from the liquid phase when the solid phase fraction is greater than 0.985 and that the MC-type carbides are rich in Nb, which agrees well with the experimental results.

OBJECTIVES: When air irrigation is used for caloric stimulation in patients with a perforated ear, warm irrigation may elicit a nystagmus that initially beats in the opposite direction of what is expected for warm irrigations, which is referred to as "caloric inversion". This study aimed to investigate the disease group in which caloric inversion appeared in patients who underwent caloric testing and to classify the patterns of caloric inversion. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of bithermal caloric test results that were collected in our dizziness clinic between 2005 and 2022. Caloric inversion was defined when nystagmus induced by caloric stimulation appeared in the opposite direction to that expected. The incidence of caloric inversion among all patients who underwent bithermal caloric tests was calculated. To confirm the clinical diagnoses of the patients with caloric inversion, their clinical records were reviewed. RESULTS: Out of 9923 patients who underwent bithermal caloric tests, 29 patients (0.29%) showed a caloric inversion. The most common clinical diagnosis was chronic otitis media (21 of 29, 72%). Of the 21 patients with chronic otitis media, 20 patients showed a caloric inversion by warm air irrigation and one patient showed caloric inversion by cold air stimulation. Patients with clinical diagnoses other than chronic otitis media such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss, benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood and recurrent vestibulopathy showed caloric inversion by warm air irrigation. Caloric inversion by warm water irrigation was observed in patients with lateral semicircular canal cupulopathy and recurrent vestibulopathy. Two patients (one with Meniere's disease and one with age-related dizziness) showed caloric inversion by cold water irrigation. CONCLUSION: Caloric inversion can be observed in various diseases other than chronic otitis media with tympanic membrane perforation. Special care should be taken in the interpretation of caloric test results. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 4.
