RESUMO

In the middle Ob River Valley (north and moderate taiga), a large number of bloodsucking dipterans (mosquitoes, blackflies, biting midges, horseflies) are recorded during 90-100 days; the activity of Ixodes persulcatus and their attack on humans are notified during 90-115 days. A package of measures that protect petroleum industrial workers from the attacks of bloodsucking insects and ticks includes the use of protective suits, the treatment of premises with insecticides, the use of repellents, and health education. Protective means for workers should be the items included into the list of expenses on safety measures. Work is done on a cost-accounting principle. The introduced system annually shows a high efficiency (95-98%) in protecting large groups of workers in their working places.

RESUMO

Ixodes, persulcatus, I. ricinus, D. reticulatus, D. marginatus, H. concinna were recorded in different regional environmental regions. The northern districts of the region are endemic for tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis (ITBB). The infection of ticks with TBE virus is 0.25%, that with Borrelia is 10.3% of the total number of the examinees. In 1997 TBE and TTBB morbidity rates were 1.91 and 2.0 per 100,000, respectively. Data on the phenology of prevailing Anopheles messeae are given. Human malaria contamination may take 99-102 days (the first ten days of June to the second ten days of September). The large size of malaria mosquitoes and the presence of imported cases of malaria make it possible to deteriorate the malaria epidemiological situation. The larvicidal activity of a preparation derived from shepherd's-purse (Capsella bursa pastoris) [correction of caseweed (Bursae pastoris)] was tested. 80-85% deaths of larvae of second-third ages occurred 48 hours after treatment with the preparation, 1 kg/ha.

RESUMO

The acaricidal activity of Fewry-med (10% zeta-zipermethrin) against Ixodes persulcatus was studied in laboratory and field conditions. The drug's doses of 0.01-0.005 g/m2 (as calculated for active ingredient) provided 100% death of ticks when forest areas (Tyumen' Province) were treated. The efficiency of treatment preserved within 31 days (the follow-up period). When Fewry-med was used in a dose of 0.005 and 0.01 g/m2, the soil levels of zeta-zipermethrin was lower than the maximum allowable concentration at days 7 and 14 after treatment. In the treated areas, the size of crawling representatives of the entomofauna restored at day 25. The drug may be recommended for industrial trials.

RESUMO

The insecticidal activity of Aikon, 10% wettable powder, and Carate, 5% emulsified concentrate, and 5% water soluble granules, (Zeneka Plant Protection, UK) was studied in laboratory and field tests. Their effective doses were 0.001-0.5 g/m2 (as calculated for active ingredients) for synanthropic insects (cockroaches, flies, fleas). The agents belong to moderate hazard class 3 substances. Their use has been approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for treatment for non-living accommodations and subsidiary premises by specialists. Individual protective means should be used while contacting the agents.

RESUMO

A formulation of 0.5% Malcord dust, which contains carbofos and permethrin (a 1:1 ratio) as active agents, was designed and examined. LC99 against synanthropic insects by the active ingredient was 0.01-0.005 g/m2. The effective application rate of the dust ranged 5 to 10 g/m2 in the treatment of various objects. The residual insecticidal effect of the dust on the treated surfaces remained 1.5-2.0 months (depending upon the type of an object). The dust Malcord has been permitted by the health care authorities of the Russian Federation for its usage by specialists and the population.

RESUMO

Laboratory tests have established a high activity and long-term persistence of some cipermethrin isomers (fendone, fastac) and cifluthrin (zolfac) against the tick Ornithodoros papillipes, a carrier of tick-borne relapsing fever. These indices are considerably superior to those of an isomer mixture of cipermethrin (cimbush, ripkord). This can be applied to deltamethrin and cigalothrin. The findings suggest that these agents are highly promising in controlling the carrier of tick-borne relapsing fever along with a significant reduction in the ecological pesticidal load in the focus.

RESUMO

The aerosols derived from the designed 2% permethrine-containing pyrotechnical formulations (tablets and briquets) were tested for their effects in laboratory and field conditions. When tested in the chamber, its LC50 and LC99 were 0.056 and 0.43 mg/m2 (as calculated for the active ingredient), respectively, for Ae. aegypti mosquitos exposed to 15 min in the polycarprolactam plastic trap and 2.99 and 5.66 mg/m2 (for the active ingredient) for M. domestica flies exposed to an hour. LC99 for C. pipiens ranged 2 to 5 mg/m2 in the field conditions when treating the basements with varying airtightness. The effective dosage ensuring a 100% death of M. domestica in the animal-breeding premises of various types is 10 mg/m2 on an hour exposure.
