RESUMO

Aim: In this study, personal variables, technology use cases, vaccine-related variables, social media-specific epistemological beliefs, media literacy, and social influence strategies were examined as predictors of Covid-19 vaccination hesitancy (VH) beliefs. Subject and methods: The prediction design research model is used to detect the predictors of the dependent variable. The study group consists of 378 participants. Five different scales were used together with the self-description form as a data collection tool. Results: According to the results of the research, individuals who have positive perceptions about the safety of Covid-19 vaccines and who have received the Covid-19 vaccine have lower anti-vaccine beliefs. It is another situation that prevents the opposition to vaccination of those who research the source of information on social media. As a result, age, education and income level, social media usage experience, media literacy, and social influence strategies were not effective on the participants' anti-vaccine beliefs. Conclusion: According to the findings of the study, positive perceptions about the safety of Covid-19 vaccines, being vaccinated against Covid-19, and researching a source of information on social media variables seem to be effective in laying the foundations for constructive interventions such as using anti-vaccine beliefs to guide, reduce or eliminate negative beliefs about vaccines.

RESUMO

This study aimed to examine the predictive relationship between video gaming addiction (VGA) and the level of video gaming competency among video gamers. Additionally, the role of time spent playing video games, video game engagement (VGE), video game positive perception (VGPP), social support and quality of relationships with peers were examined. We recruited 227 participants using the purposive sampling method. Of the participants, 50.20% self-identified as Novice-Amateur video gamers while 49.80% indicated being a regular-expert level players. We collected data from participants utilizing a personal and video games information form and five scales and (video game positive perception, videogame addiction scale, video engagement scale, multidimensional scale of perceived social support and relational health indices). These scales are valid and reliable instruments suitable for research purposes. The primary data analysis method was the Partial least squares- structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Our results demonstrated that the relationship between VGA and VGE differs based on the participants' video gaming competency level. Another important result is that VGPP has a significant positive relationship with VGA (p < 0.001), VGE (p < 0.001) and video game playing and watching activities (p < 0.001). Furthermore, an increase in the time spent on watching Twitch content is associated with an increased VGA level (p < 0.05). Finally, the time spent on playing video games has different patterns with perceptions of social support according to the level of expertise of the players. This study indicates that VGPP plays a crucial role in predicting VGA and VE and highlights the importance of considering the level of players when examining the relationship between VGA and VE. The conclusions also exhibit that the increasing popularity of esports and video game content tracking may significantly impact VGA. The role of social support in video gaming behaviors varies based on the player's level of expertise.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between creative self-efficacy (CSE), rational experiential thinking, and cognitive flexibility thinking skills, and authentic learning self-efficacy (ALSE) as a result of authentic learning (AL) activities in educational online social networks. The participants of the research are 102 university students. The study group was determined by a convenient sampling method. Variance-based PLS-SEM using partial least square was used to examine the relationships between research variables. According to the research findings, it is seen that cognitive flexibility in online social networks has a significant effect on experiential ability and rational favorability. Findings show that rational favorability has a positive and significant effect on CSE. Research findings indicate that personal variables such as gender, age, and academic success perception do not have a significant effect on CSE in learning that takes place in online social networks. It was evaluated whether CSE has an effect on online ALSE, and it was found that other sub-dimensions other than "keeping up with technological advancements" are significant.

RESUMO

During the COVID-19 period, individuals who physically isolated themselves from the social environment increased their screen time compared to before, and the time spent in the family environment increased. Increasing screen time is considered a factor that increases addiction. In this context, the purpose of this study was to examine the profiles of university students according to multiple screen addiction, mobile social online gaming addiction, and general mattering. The participants of this study are 588 university students. Personal information form and four different scales were used in the study. The latent profile analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the research, four different sets of participants were formed. The variables excessive behavior, compulsive behavior, and loss of control increase the likelihood that students will be clustered in the average profile. It was observed that all variables except gender and age increased the probability of clustering in the medium multiple screen addiction low gamers profile. It was observed that excessive behavior, compulsive behavior, and loss of control variables increased the probability of clustering in the high multiple screen addiction high gamers profile. As a stronger predictor than other profiles, it was determined that the probability of students performing high multiple screen addiction high gameplay activities was approximately 3 times more than the students in profile 1.

RESUMO

The aim of this study is to examine the lifelong learning tendencies of English teachers, their professional competencies, and their self-efficacy in integrating technology. For this purpose, a descriptive survey model was used in this study. The participants of the research consist of 561 English teachers working in institutions (private and state) affiliated to the Ministry of National Education selected from every geographical region of Turkey. Participants work in primary, secondary, and secondary education institutions. Non-random stratified purposive sampling method was used in the sample selection of this study. Personal Information Form and 3 different scales were used for the data collection process of the research. Analysis of the data was performed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test, and simple linear regression analysis. As a result of this research, it was seen that there is a positive correlation between English teachers' technology integrating self-efficacy, professional competency, and lifelong learning tendencies. It was determined that teachers' self-efficacy in integrating technology and professional competencies are predictors of their lifelong learning tendencies. In addition, it was observed that there was a significant difference in English teachers' self-efficacy in integrating technology, lifelong learning tendencies, and professional competencies according to gender. English teachers' professional competencies differ according to the type of institution, while their self-efficacy in integrating technology differs according to the type of institution and age. It is thought that the results of this study will contribute to raising awareness about the impact of teachers' self-efficacy and professional development on technology integration on issues surrounding their lifelong learning tendencies.

RESUMO

The Flipped Classroom (FC) approach is an important model for individualizing teaching, improving motivation, interaction, and increasing academic performance in a student-centered learning environment. However, at FC, not all students benefit equally from teaching opportunities. There may be important individual differences that affect their academic performance. The relationship between personality traits and academic performance in the FC model in which collaborative group studies are carried out is important for the design of individualized learning environments. In this context, the aim of this study is to research the relationship between academic success and personality traits within a collaborative flipped classroom model. Additionally, in this study, the differentiation of the relationship between academic success and personality traits according to gender, motivation, engagement, and interaction variables were examined. In this research, relational screening model was utilized. The application was achieved through the participation of 167 students for a 14-week period in Turkey. In the research, self-description form and data collection instruments were utilized. At the end of this research, Extraversion from personality traits is the strongest predictor of academic performance in FC. According to descriptive statistics, it was found that female students scored higher in FC settings for extraversion, and male students had higher scores for openness than other structures. In addition, it was found that the motivation scores of women and engagement scores of men were prominent. It was observed that the openness personality of the students with low motivation and the agreeableness of the students with high motivation is more dominant than the other personality structures. Students with the low level of engagement had the highest openness, and those with high agreeableness scores were the highest. The students with the low level of interaction had the highest openness scores, while those with high levels of interaction had the highest conscientiousness. While personality traits and academic achievements of students differed significantly according to gender, motivation and interaction levels, no significant difference was found according to engagement levels. The results reached in this study will guide the applicators about how the students become more ready to learn based on the personality traits of the classroom in which the FC model was utilized.

RESUMO

Self-control is always crucial in many areas of life. Therefore, self-control failure is the source of many of the difficulties people face in their lives and also at the center of several problems, especially among adolescents. In this regard, the purpose of the study was to examine the mediating role of multi-screen addiction (MSA) in the relationship between self-control and procrastination among adolescents by using structural equation modeling (SEM). A cross-sectional design and an online questionnaire was used in this study. The study group composed of 390 adolescents studying at various high schools in Turkey. The results of correlation analysis showed that self-control was negatively correlated with MSA and procrastination. MSA also positively correlated with procrastination. Furthermore, the findings showed that MSA mediated the relationship between self-control and procrastination. The fit index of the SEM was found to be satisfactory. The results of the study were addressed in the context of the existing literature, and then suggestions were presented. RESUMO

Psychological factors have a significant role in better understanding mechanisms that affect students' academic performance. The intense and long-term stress of the pandemic process has made it necessary to rethink the components which effect the academic achievement of pupils. The purpose of this study is to examine the variables that predict the academic achievement of university students during the pandemic process and to present a model on these variables. The study group has 241 students who continue their undergraduate education in Turkey. The data were collected with a self-description form and 6 scales. The partial Least Squares (PLS) Structural Equation Model was used to analyses the developed research model. In consequence of the study, a relationship was obtained between academic procrastination (AP) and multi-screen addiction (MSA). Covid-19 burnout has a crucial effect on AP, multiscreen addiction, and psychological well-being variables. Motivation and self regulation-attention variables are explanatory of AP. This study contributes to expanding the nomological network regarding the effects of Covid-19 on the psychological well-being and behavior of individuals.

RESUMO

Social media usage has been popular for the last decade. Individuals use their social media environments for various reasons such as to socialize, play games, have fun and share posts. Overuse of these environments may lead to negative psychological and behavioral consequences for individuals. Additionally, it increases the worries about potential addicted/problematic use of social media. In this study, it is aimed to determine the level of problematic social media usage of participants who are active social media users and to analyze the relationships between problematic social media usage and various personal characteristics and social variables. Study in relational screening model is carried out with the participation of 580 volunteers. Partial least squares (PLS) structural equation modeling is used to analyze the data obtained through various scale according to the research model. The structural equation modeling analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between problematic social media usage and the daily time of social media usage, the use of frequency of social media for recognition, publicity, communication/interaction and education, loneliness, and social anxiety. The variable which shows higher correlation between problematic social media usage is social anxiety.

RESUMO

AIM: To examine theeffects on the brain of 2-month treatment withamethylphenidate extended-release formulation (OROS-MPH) using [Tc-99m] TRODAT-1SPECT in a sample of treatment-naïve adolescents with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In addition, to assess whether risk alleles (homozygosity for 10-repeat allele at the DAT1 gene were associated with alterations in striatal DAT availability. METHODS: Twenty adolescents with ADHD underwent brain single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scans with [Tc-99m] TRODAT-1 at baseline and two months after starting OROS-MPH treatment with dosages up to 1 mg/kg/day. Severity of illness was estimated using the Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI-S) and DuPaul ADHD Rating Scale-Clinician version (ARS) before treatment,1 month and 2 months after initiating OROS-MPH treatment. RESULTS: Decreased DAT availability was found in both the right caudate (pretreatment DAT binding: 224.76 ±â€¯33.77, post-treatment DAT binding: 208.86 ±â€¯28.75, p = 0.02) and right putamen (pre-treatment DAT binding: 314.41 ±â€¯55.24, post-treatment DAT binding: 285.66 ±â€¯39.20, p = 0.05) in adolescents with ADHD receiving OROS-MPH treatment. Adolescents with ADHD who showed a robust response to OROS-MPH (n = 7) had significantly greater reduction of DAT density in the right putamen than adolescents who showed less robust response to OROS-MPH (n = 13) (p = 0.02). However, between-group differences by treatment responses were not related with DAT density in the right caudate. Risk alleles (homozygosity for the 10-repeat allele of DAT1 gene) in the DAT1 gene were not associated with alterations in striatal DAT availability. CONCLUSION: Two months of OROS-MPH treatment decreased DAT availability in both the right caudate and putamen. Adolescents with ADHD who showed a robust response to OROS-MPH had greater reduction of DAT density in the right putamen. However, our findings did not support an association between homozygosity for a 10-repeat allele in the DAT1 gene and DAT density, assessedusing[Tc-99m] TRODAT-1SPECT.

RESUMO

In this work, the extrinsic counting efficiency and extrinsic sensitivity of a cylindrical source and a gamma camera with a rectangular detector were determined using homogeneous Tc-99m. Scattered radiation effects were evaluated by both analyzing the energy spectrum of 99mTc for the scatter fraction and plotting the extrinsic counting efficiency and sensitivity. It is found that the scattered fraction values increased with increasing source thickness. Calculated extrinsic sensitivity shows a gradually decreasing trend with increasing source thickness. The extrinsic efficiency decreases with increasing source thickness. It is concluded that increasing source to detector distances results with increasing extrinsic counting efficiency but decreasing extrinsic sensitivity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Detection/localization of infection and inflammation is important for the initiation of correct treatment as well as its maintenance. Nuclear medicine imaging methods play an important role in determining infection and inflammation. 18F-2'-deoxy-2-fluoro-d-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is highly sensitive in such cases when used with tomographic cross-sections. In this study, the development and progression of infection and inflammation were monitored on rats by using 18F-FDG via PET/CT. METHODS: Sterile and infected abscesses were formed on rats using turpentine and S. aureus, respectively. For evaluation of the formation and progression of the abscess, 18F-FDG was injected into the rats and they were imaged by PET/CT at intervals of twenty-four hours for five days. Maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax) of 18F-FDG was calculated. RESULTS: The highest activity involvement was seen on the first day of abscess formation. On the first day, SUVmax of the S. aureus abscess was 3.9±0.9 while in the sterile abscess SUVmax in the first day was 2.2±0.8. 18F-FDG uptake decreased day by day and it reached the background level on the fourth and fifth days. There were statistically significant differences between S. aureus and sterile abscess, and between sterile abscess and background activity in terms of SUVmax values during the first three days (p<0.05). On the fourth and fifth days, there was no statistically significant difference between S. aureus and sterile abscess, and between sterile abscess and background activity (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The results demonstrated that the SUVmax value for 18F-FDG can be useful in the early differentiation of sterile and infected abscess. In addition, 18F-FDG-PET imaging has the advantage of local availability of equipment and labeled agents leading rapid diagnosis of differentiation of infection and inflammation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The behavior of beta particles under the magnetic field was investigated both theoretically and experimentally based on the assumption of reducing the damage to the normal tissues created by using magnetic field in radionuclide therapy. METHODS: A water-filled spherical medium and a beta particle source was formed by using Geant4 simulation software for the theoretical study. After applying a homogenous magnetic field, the volume of points at which the particles interact with the medium was calculated by determining particle range. The range of beta particles was examined using yttrium-90 source and Gafchromic films for the experimental study. The setup was kept in normal room conditions and in the magnetic resonance imaging device. Then the irradiated films were analyzed by creating isodose curves. RESULTS: With the increase of the magnetic field, the number of hits at the center was increased, but the number of hits at the outer boundaries decreased inversely proportional to the strength of the magnetic field. The change perpendicular to the magnetic field was greater as compared to the change parallel to the magnetic field. The volume of hits of beta particles got smaller with the increase of the magnetic field. CONCLUSION: When magnetic field is increased, the decrease in the number of interactions at the outer boundaries became more pronounced in the perpendicular direction to the magnetic field. The effect of magnetic field was more apparent for higher energy beta particles than lower energy particles.

RESUMO

Nuclear medicine applications in Turkey started in the early 1950s, grew as an independent medical discipline and finally were recognized by the Ministry of Health in 1973. Later on, the professional organization of nuclear medicine physicians and other related professionals including radiopharmacists and technologists under the Turkish Society of Nuclear Medicine were established in 1975. Recently after completing more than a half century in Turkey, nuclear medicine has proved to be a strong and evolving medical field with more than 600 physicians serving for the changing needs of clinical practice throughout these years. This article describes past and present facts in this field and attempts to provide insights into the future which hopefully will be brighter than before.

RESUMO

Tail gut cysts are rare congenital lesions developing from postanal primitive gut remnants. They are mostly benign but carry a potential of malignant transformation, such as adenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine tumor, adenosquamous carcinoma, and pseudomyxoma peritonei. We present a 39-year-old woman with a neuroendocrine tumor arising within a tail gut cyst. She underwent complete resection in 2011. After 4 years, she was admitted with breast nodules, left proptosis, and gaze difficulties. Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT demonstrated extensive metastases including pelvic, lymph node, adrenal gland, bone, retro-orbital, cardiac, breast, skin, and subcutaneous metastases.

RESUMO

A 72-year-old man was diagnosed with well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of unknown primary with liver metastasis. All liver lesions were detectable only on Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT and were negative on F-FDG PET/CT. Intrahepatic Y radioembolization therapy was planned, but the hepatopulmonary shunt fraction was found to be 31.6%. Because the hepatopulmonary shunt fraction greater than 20% is an absolute contraindication to radioembolization, we decided to give him Lu-DOTATATE therapy. He received 4 courses of Lu-DOTATATE and showed regression in posttherapy Ga-DOTATATE PET/CT imaging. The hepatopulmonary shunt fraction was reduced to 8% after Lu-DOTATATE therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND/AIM: To determine the prevalence of malignancy in thyroid incidentalomas (TIs) detected by fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 18F-FDG PET/CT images were evaluated prospectively for the presence of thyroid uptake. The patients with a TI were evaluated by an endocrinologist according to the predefined diagnostic algorithm. The final diagnosis was obtained clinically and/or by pathology. RESULTS: TI was detected in 4.2% of 4204 patients. A malignant thyroid nodule was diagnosed in 29% and 33% of the focal and diffuse-focal uptake groups, respectively. However, no malignancy was detected in the diffuse uptake group. The standardized maximum uptake values (SUVmax) of the nodules were significantly higher in patients with thyroid malignancy than in patients with benign nodules (P = 0.006). The calculated cut-off value of SUVmax for malignancy was 3.5. In 2 patients in whom the cytopathological diagnosis was benign, malignancy was diagnosed after total thyroidectomy. CONCLUSION: A malignant nodule was present in one-third of the patients with focal or diffuse-focal uptake. A SUVmax value of 3.5 was considered as a cut-off value for the differentiation of a malignant lesion. Benign cytology in fine-needle aspiration biopsy for 2 patients underestimated a thyroid malignancy.

RESUMO

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders. The pathophysiology is thought to involve noradrenaline and dopamine. The role of dopamine transporter (DAT) was evaluated in imaging studies using mostly dopamine reuptake inhibitors. Atomoxetine is a selective noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. Here we report the results of a pilot study conducted to evaluate changes in striatal DAT after 8 weeks of atomoxetine treatment. Our results suggest that 8 weeks of atomoxetine treatment may change striatal DAT bioavailability as measured via SPECT but that change was not correlated with genotype or clinical improvement.
