RESUMO

Basing on the results of follow-up of 50 patients repeatedly operated on at the site of previous trabeculectomy, the authors recommend to stick to a certain order of surgical manipulations and stop the intervention when intraocular pressure is reduced to its normal level on the operative table. Such technique, together with the use of a viscous sponge to prevent coarse postoperative adhesions, helped achieve a stable hypotensive effect that was present for at least 2 years in the overwhelming majority of the patients operated on repeatedly.

RESUMO

Tracing Schlemm's canal in the course of sinusotomy, added to multiple-modality treatment of open-angle glaucoma, helps improve the localization of the site of initially traced external wall of Schlemm's canal in gonioscopy and carry out laser trabeculopuncture at the site of the intervention with a lower level of laser energy, as well as reduce the possibility of complications and cicatrix of the trabecula and the adjacent tissues. A follow-up of 23 patients over 1.5 years has proved that the described intervention provides a good hypotensive effect and stabilization of the glaucomatous process in the overwhelming majority of patients.

RESUMO

Subscleral removal of the external wall of Schlemm's canal followed by laser trabeculo-puncture provides retention exposure of the intrascleral and trabecular levels without resorting to eyeball opening; intraocular reduction after such operation is gradual. A follow-up of up to 5 years of 134 patients have demonstrated that such combined intervention is low traumatic and ensures a stable hypotensive effect and stabilization of the glaucomatous process in the overwhelming majority of patients.

RESUMO

A course of ultraviolet irradiation (UVI) of the blood, followed by reinfusion, was carried out with the use of the Izol'da MD-73 apparatus in 156 patients (300 eyes) aged 35 to 82, suffering from nonexudative chorioretinal dystrophy. The course consisted of 5 sessions with intervals of 2 days, 12-16 min each. No drugs were used during or after the treatment, except heparin (10,000 U in 50 ml of physiologic saline), that was used to wash the system of reducing pipes to prevent the formation of thrombi during blood collection and reinfusion. Vision acuity improvement, achieved in 161 cases (53.7%), has been rather stable, persisting in remote periods of the follow-up (up to 12 mos). In the rest 139 cases either improvement, that was considered unreliable, or no changes were observed immediately after UVI course. The method is simple and does not involve the use of expensive and hard-to-get imported drugs, its functional effect is sufficiently good and stable; all these factors recommend UVI for wide clinical application to the treatment of central chorioretinal dystrophy.

RESUMO

The authors have developed this system (AIS), realized via CM 1420 mini-computer for many-terminal regime. The program provides operation in both the instruction and control modes; the control is realized via a display, that permits individual dialogues of students with the computer. The dialogue involves 12-16 questions in the curriculum. The answers are estimated and remembered by the computer. When the operation in the control mode is over, a register with students' marks is printed out. Therefore, the suggested AIS promotes autotraining of the students in this course and rules out the subjective aspects in assessment of students' knowledge.
