RESUMO

In this work, MoS2/Mg(OH)2/BiVO4 ternary hybrid photocatalyst was synthesized by sonicated precursor mixture to the hydrothermal procedure to generate a highly efficient solar light-induced and simply recyclable photocatalyst. The obtained hybrid was confirmed by the characteristic peaks of MoS2/Mg(OH)2/BiVO4 observed in X-ray diffraction (14.31°/18.62°/28.18°), infrared spectra (465/445/679 cm-1), ultraviolet-visible spectra (636/683/639 nm) studies, and the band-gap narrowing (2.62/2.44/2.25 eV). The morphological structure of MoS2 (rod), Mg(OH)2 (particles), and BiVO4 (random aggregates) were turned into MoS2/Mg(OH)2/BiVO4 hierarchical nanosheets that coexisted with particles. The photodegradation experiments of the photocatalysts were assessed by using Congo Red (CR), Malachite Green (MG) and Textile Industry Effluent (TIE) as the model pollutant under direct sunlight. The photocatalytic efficiency of the hybrids was noticeably 2.1 to 2.3 times higher than that of the individual components. Photocurrent response test indicate that MoS2/Mg(OH)2/BiVO4 ternary hybrid nanocomposites photocatalysts had a more effective electron/hole pair separation than individual and binary composite photocatalysts. The mechanism of photodegradation of MoS2/Mg(OH)2/BiVO4ternary hybrid photocatalysts was investigated and discussed.

RESUMO

In this paper, we report a wet chemical precipitation method used to synthesize pure and Cu-doped V2O5 nanorods with different doping concentrations (Cu x V2O5 where x = 3, 5 or 7 at%), followed by annealing at 600 °C and characterizations using several techniques. Indeed, a growth mechanism explaining the morphological evolution under the experimental conditions is also proposed. The XRD patterns revealed that all of the studied samples consist of a single V2O5 phase and are well crystallized with a preferential orientation towards the (200) direction. The presence of intrinsic defects and internal stresses in the lattice structure of the Cu x V2O5 samples has been substantiated by detailed analysis of the XRD. Apart from the doping level, there was an assessment of identical tiny peaks attributed to the formation of a secondary phase of CuO. SEM images confirmed the presence of agglomerated particles on the surface; the coverage increased with Cu doping level. XPS spectral analysis showed that Cu in the V5+ matrix exists mainly in the Cu2+ state on the surface. The appearance of satellite peaks in the Cu 2p spectra, however, provided definitive evidence for the presence of Cu2+ ions in these studied samples as well. Doping-induced PL quenching was observed due to the absorption of energy from defect emission in the V5+ lattice by Cu2+ ions. We have proposed a cost-effective, less complicated but effective way of synthesizing pure and doped samples in colloidal form, deposited by the nebulizer spray technique on p-Si to establish junction diodes with enhanced optoelectronic properties.

RESUMO

A relatively simple method was developed to fabricate CrN/Cu nanocomposite coatings using pulsed DC magnetron sputtering for application in antibacterial activity. These nanocomposite coatings were applied on titanium (Ti)-modified stainless steel substrata (D-9 alloy) and the antibacterial activity of these coating with respect to the Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was investigated qualitatively and quantitatively. Scanning electron microscopy, epifluorescence microscope analyses, and total viable counts confirmed that inclusion of copper in the CrN/Cu nanocomposite coatings provided antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa. The quantitative examination of the bacterial activity of P. aeruginosa was estimated by the survival ratio as calculated from the number of viable cells which formed colonies on nutrient agar plates.

RESUMO

Synthesis of nanocomposite thin films of CrN/Cu deposited on (100) Si and D-9 alloy substrates by pulsed magnetron sputtering as a function of copper content in the range 15.1-35.8 at.% is investigated. XRD analysis of the films deposited at 773 K with nitrogen flow rate of 10 sccm indicated that the films are nanorystalline and bi-phasic (fcc-CrN and fcc-Cu). Scanning electron microscopy showed a structureless morphology for CrN, while agglomerates were obtained for CrN/Cu nanocomposite thin films. Atomic force microscopy also confirmed the agglomeration of particles with increasing Cu content. The amount of copper content in the nanocomposite films had also shown a significant reduction in the crystallite size of CrN. The nano hardness measurements showed a peak hardness of 17 GPa for the films with copper content of 15.1 at.%. The hardness values were found to decrease significantly with Cu content > 31.1 at.%.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) have found widespread application in the past, especially in tumor histopathology. This study was undertaken to evaluate the significance of various AgNOR parameters and to assess their role in differentiating hyperplastic, premalignant, and malignant lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study sample consisted of archival biopsy specimens of ten squamous cell carcinomas, ten premalignant lesions, and five inflammatory lesions. Two biopsies from normal mucosa acted as control. AgNORs were assessed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The data were analyzed using Student's independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple range test (Tukey-HSD). RESULTS: Quantitatively significant difference existed in the number of AgNORs between the normal mucosa, inflammatory lesions, and carcinomas, but the premalignant lesions failed to differ significantly from the normal mucosa. The number of AgNORs was found to be related to epithelial proliferation. Qualitatively, in terms of size, shape, and pattern of distribution, the normal mucosa and inflammatory lesion were alike, but the premalignant and malignant lesions differed significantly from the normal, with a marked degree of AgNOR pleomorphism being observed in carcinomas. CONCLUSIONS: AgNOR quantity is strictly proportional to the proliferative activity of the cell and does not necessarily indicate malignancy. It is the qualitative characteristics of AgNOR that help to differentiate hyperplastic, premalignant, and malignant lesions.
