RESUMO

The gut barrier plays an important role in health maintenance by preventing the invasion of dietary pathogens and toxins. Disruption of the gut barrier can cause severe intestinal inflammation. As a natural source, milk is enriched with many active constituents that contribute to numerous beneficial functions, including immune regulation. These components collectively serve as a shield for the gut barrier, protecting against various threats such as biological, chemical, mechanical, and immunological threats. This comprehensive review delves into the active ingredients in milk, encompassing casein, α-lactalbumin, ß-lactoglobulin, lactoferrin, the milk fat globular membrane, lactose, transforming growth factor, and glycopeptides. The primary focus is to elucidate their impact on the integrity and function of the gut barrier. Furthermore, the implications of different processing methods of dairy products on the gut barrier protection are discussed. In conclusion, this study aimed to underscore the vital role of milk and dairy products in sustaining gut barrier health, potentially contributing to broader perspectives in nutritional sciences and public health.

Somalia is a complex and fragile setting with a demonstrated potential for disruptive, high-burden measles outbreaks. In response, since 2018, Somalian authorities have partnered with UNICEF and the WHO to implement measles vaccination campaigns across the country. In this paper, we create a Somalia-specific model of measles transmission based on a comprehensive epidemiological dataset including case-based surveillance, vaccine registries, and serological surveys. We use this model to assess the impact of these campaign interventions on Somalian's measles susceptibility, showing, for example, that across the roughly 10 million doses delivered, 1 of every 5 immunized a susceptible child. Finally, we use the model to explore a counter-factual epidemiology without the 2019-2020 campaigns, and we estimate that those interventions prevented over 10,000 deaths.

Buckwheat is a globally recognized, nutritionally rich crop with robust adaptability, serving as a multi-purpose plant for its health benefits. Achieving precise and mechanized plot seed harvesting is a critical step in obtaining accurate results in breeding experiments. However, plot breeding requires no seed retention, no mixing, and ensures no accumulation of seed in the threshing unit. A self-cleaning technology was developed to prevent seed retention, mixing, and accumulation in the multistage tangential cylinder threshing unit. The newly designed cleaning system has five air inlets and a centrifugal fan for pneumatic cleaning. CFD simulations were conducted for each inlet position, coupled with four varying inlet velocities and the rotation speed of the main threshing cylinder. During the post-processing stage of the CFD modeling, a line consisting of fifty points was drawn beneath the threshing drums, and the air velocity at these points was recorded. The optimal configuration of inlet position, inlet air velocity, and main threshing drum rotation speed for efficient cleaning was identified based on the ratio of points beneath the drums where the airflow speed surpassed the suspension speed of buckwheat to the points where the airflow speed was lower than the suspension speed of buckwheat. The optimal configuration for "inlet_1" was identified based on the suspension velocity of buckwheat grain, with an inlet velocity of 4 m/s and a main threshing drum speed of 450 rpm.

Tuberculosis (TB) and non-communicable diseases (NCD) share predisposing risk factors. TB-associated NCD might cluster within households affected with TB requiring shared prevention and care strategies. We conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis of national TB prevalence surveys to determine whether NCD cluster in members of households with TB. We identified eligible surveys that reported at least one NCD or NCD risk factor through the archive maintained by the World Health Organization and searching in Medline and Embase from 1 January 2000 to 10 August 2021, which was updated on 23 March 2023. We compared the prevalence of NCD and their risk factors between people who do not have TB living in households with at least one person with TB (members of households with TB), and members of households without TB. We included 16 surveys (n = 740,815) from Asia and Africa. In a multivariable model adjusted for age and gender, the odds of smoking was higher among members of households with TB (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.23; 95% CI: 1.11-1.38), compared with members of households without TB. The analysis did not find a significant difference in the prevalence of alcohol drinking, diabetes, hypertension, or BMI between members of households with and without TB. Studies evaluating household-wide interventions for smoking to reduce its dual impact on TB and NCD may be warranted. Systematically screening for NCD using objective diagnostic methods is needed to understand the actual burden of NCD and inform comprehensive interventions.

The processing characteristics of yogurt are closely related to the composition and arrangement of exopolysaccharides (EPS) in lactic acid bacteria (LAB). To fully understand and develop the functional properties of EPS and to study the effect of EPS molecular weight on yogurt and its mechanism, the physicochemical properties of high molecular weight EPS-LH43, medium molecular weight EPS-LH13, and low molecular weight EPS-LH23, as well as the gel properties and protein conformation of yogurt, were determined and analyzed in this experiment. The results indicate that EPS-LH43 and EPS-LH13 are both composed of mannose, rhamnose, galacturonic acid, glucose, and galactose. EPS-LH23 is composed of mannose, galacturonic acid, glucose, and galactose. Their Number-average Molecular Weight is 5.21 × 106 Da, 2.39 × 106 Da and 3.76 × 105 Da, respectively. In addition, all three types of EPS have good thermal stability and can improve the stability of casein. In addition, the analysis of the texture, particle size, potential, water holding capacity, rheology, low field nuclear magnetic resonance, microstructure, and flavor characteristics of yogurt confirmed the relationship between the molecular weight of LAB EPS and the gel properties of yogurt. Fluorescence spectrophotometer and circular dichroism analysis indicate that the different molecular weights of LAB EPS have different effects on protein structure, which is an intrinsic factor leading to significant differences in the gel properties of the three types of fermented milk. These findings provide new references for enhancing the understanding of the structure-activity relationship of EPS and indicate that EPS-LH43 can be used to improve the gel properties of dairy products.

Knowing the level of SARS-CoV-2 transmission is crucial for decision-making on Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) handling. Guidelines for measuring SARS-CoV-2 antibodies to estimate seroprevalence are conceptually straightforward and internationally available. However, challenges exist for developing countries with limited laboratory capacity, diverse geographical topography, fragmented health information systems and limited resources such as Indonesia. One year after the first case was confirmed in Indonesia, approximately ten infections were undiagnosed or underreported for every reported case. Under those circumstances, we described the method and lessons learned in conducting nationwide cohort COVID-19 serology surveys in a nation with limited resources, such as Indonesia. •Strong cross-sectoral collaboration between ministries and levels of governance (central and subnational) enables strategic use of civil registration database for efficient sampling.•All agglomeration districts (highly dense population and urban area) were selected as study sites, and additional non-agglomeration districts were selected using probability-proportional-to-size (PPS).•Involving the experienced phlebotomist in community health service provider and district laboratory cut down preparation time.

The manufacturing process for many large components of machines leads to a difference in their properties and performances based on changes in location. Functionally graded materials can meet these requirements and address the issue of generation and expansion of interface cracks. Ni204-dr60 gradient coatings were successfully fabricated using laser direct energy deposition (LDED). Microstructure mechanism evolution and microhardness of the gradient coating were comprehensively investigated. The change in the precipitated phase at the grain boundary and the intergranular zones resulted in a change in microstructural characteristics and also affected the microhardness distribution. The reinforced phase of the Ni204 → dr60 gradient zone from Ni204 to dr60 gradually precipitated and was rich in Mo and Nb phase, lath-shaped CrCx phase, network-shaped CrCx phase, block shape (Ni, Si) (C, B) phase, block CrCx phase, and block Cr (B, C) phase. The gradient coating thus acts as a potential candidate to effectively solve the problem of crack generation at the interface of dr60 and the substrate.

We started a campaign in the heart of Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan, to expose the hidden threats of parasitic illnesses in ruminants and the severe financial consequences associated with them. Our in-depth investigations focused on the prevalence, impact, and astounding financial losses brought on by organ contamination in slaughtered animals. Of the 384 slaughtered ruminants examined for gastrointestinal parasites, a prevalence of 44.79% was recorded. It is interesting to note that we found no conclusive association between parasitic infection and the various ruminant species under study (p > 0.05). However, goats (52.0%) had the highest numerical prevalence of parasitic infection, followed by cattle (46.1%), buffalo (46.0%), and sheep (34.7%) in that order. A significant finding (p < 0.05) showed that the majority of animals had light parasitism (46.5%), as opposed to those with moderate (30.2%) or severe loads (23.2%). Our research revealed substantial (p < 0.05) relationships between ruminant age, sex, and parasitic infection prevalence. In comparison to females (56.4%) and adults (48.1%), males (36.1%) and young (36.9%) ruminants showed considerably decreased infection rates (p < 0.05). On the other hand, we discovered a non-significant (p > 0.05) association between the months and the prevalence of parasitic infection. As a result of the condemnation of contaminated organs such as the rumen, lungs, and liver, an estimated financial loss of PKR 133,731,400 (USD = 466,939.2) was incurred. The yearly economic losses caused by liver condemnation were much greater than those caused by rumen and lung condemnation (p < 0.05). Our research not only reported a significantly higher abundance but also economic threats of the parasitic diseases among the slaughtered animals in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. Our findings highlighted the critical need for preventive and therapeutic interventions for parasitic infections in animals, in order to mitigate the economic losses through strengthened animal health.

The emergence of nano innovations in membrane distillation (MD) has garnered increasing scientific interest. This enables the exploration of state-of-the-art nano-enabled MD membranes with desirable properties, which significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of the MD process and open up opportunities for achieving a sustainable water-energy-environment (WEE) nexus. This comprehensive review provides broad coverage and in-depth analysis of recent innovations in nano-enabled MD membranes, focusing on their role in achieving desirable properties, such as strong liquid-repellence, high resistance to scaling, fouling, and wetting, as well as efficient self-heating and self-cleaning functionalities. The recent developments in nano-enhanced photothermal-catalytic applications for water-energy co-generation within a single MD system are also discussed. Furthermore, the bottlenecks are identified that impede the scale-up of nanoenhanced MD membranes and a future roadmap is proposed for their sustainable commercialiation. This holistic overview is expected to inspire future research and development efforts to fully harness the potential of nano-enabled MD membranes to achieve sustainable integration of water, energy, and the environment.

Since the discovery of nanobubbles (NBs) in 1994, NBs have been attracting growing attention for their fascinating properties and have been studied for application in various environmental fields, including water and wastewater treatment. However, despite the intensive research efforts on NBs' fundamental properties, especially in the past five years, controversies and disagreements in the published literature have hindered their practical implementation. So far, reviews of NB research have mainly focused on NBs' role in specific treatment processes or general applications, highlighting proof-of-concept and success stories primarily at the laboratory scale. As such, there lacks a rigorous review that authenticates NBs' potential beyond the bench scale. This review aims to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the recent progress in NB research in the field of water and wastewater treatment at different scales, along with identifying and discussing the challenges and prospects of the technology. Herein, we systematically analyze (1) the fundamental properties of NBs and their relevancy to water treatment processes, (2) recent advances in NB applications for various treatment processes beyond the lab scale, including over 20 pilot and full-scale case studies, (3) a preliminary economic consideration of NB-integrated treatment processes (the case of NB-flotation), and (4) existing controversies in NBs research and the outlook for future research. This review is organized with the aim to provide readers with a step-by-step understanding of the subject matter while highlighting key insights as well as knowledge gaps requiring research to advance the use of NBs in the wastewater treatment industry.

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and NCD risk factors, such as smoking, increase the risk for tuberculosis (TB). Data are scarce on the risk of prevalent TB associated with these factors in the context of population-wide systematic screening and on the association between NCDs and NCD risk factors with different manifestations of TB, where ∼50% being asymptomatic but bacteriologically positive (subclinical). We did an individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis of national and sub-national TB prevalence surveys to synthesise the evidence on the risk of symptomatic and subclinical TB in people with NCDs or risk factors, which could help countries to plan screening activities. Methods: In this systematic review and IPD meta-analysis, we identified eligible prevalence surveys in low-income and middle-income countries that reported at least one NCD (e.g., diabetes) or NCD risk factor (e.g., smoking, alcohol use) through the archive maintained by the World Health Organization and by searching in Medline and Embase from January 1, 2000 to August 10, 2021. The search was updated on March 23, 2023. We performed a one-stage meta-analysis using multivariable multinomial models. We estimated the proportion of and the odds ratio for subclinical and symptomatic TB compared to people without TB for current smoking, alcohol use, and self-reported diabetes, adjusted for age and gender. Subclinical TB was defined as microbiologically confirmed TB without symptoms of current cough, fever, night sweats, or weight loss and symptomatic TB with at least one of these symptoms. We assessed heterogeneity using forest plots and I2 statistic. Missing variables were imputed through multi-level multiple imputation. This study is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42021272679). Findings: We obtained IPD from 16 national surveys out of 21 national and five sub-national surveys identified (five in Asia and 11 in Africa, N = 740,815). Across surveys, 15.1%-56.7% of TB were subclinical (median: 38.1%). In the multivariable model, current smoking was associated with both subclinical (OR 1.67, 95% CI 1.27-2.40) and symptomatic TB (OR 1.49, 95% CI 1.34-1.66). Self-reported diabetes was associated with symptomatic TB (OR 1.67, 95% CI 1.17-2.40) but not with subclinical TB (OR 0.92, 95% CI 0.55-1.55). For alcohol drinking ≥ twice per week vs no alcohol drinking, the estimates were imprecise (OR 1.59, 95% CI 0.70-3.62) for subclinical TB and OR 1.43, 95% CI 0.59-3.46 for symptomatic TB). For the association between current smoking and symptomatic TB, I2 was high (76.5% (95% CI 62.0-85.4), while the direction of the point estimates was consistent except for three surveys with wide CIs. Interpretation: Our findings suggest that current smokers are more likely to have both symptomatic and subclinical TB. These individuals can, therefore, be prioritised for intensified screening, such as the use of chest X-ray in the context of community-based screening. People with self-reported diabetes are also more likely to have symptomatic TB, but the association is unclear for subclinical TB. Funding: None.

Probiotic products that contain lactobacilli have long histories of safe use as Lactobacillus strains have many physiological functions in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). However, the viability of probiotics can be affected by food processing and the adverse environment. This study investigated the O/W (Oil-in-water emulsions) emulsions formed by coagulation of casein/GA (Gum Arabic) complexes for Lactiplantibacillus plantarum microencapsulation, and the stability of the strains during gastrointestinal environment were also determined. The results showed that the particle size of the emulsion decreased from 9.72 µm to 5.48 µm when the GA concentration increased from 0 to 2 (w/v), and the emulsion particles were found to be more uniform as observed by CLSM (Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope). The surface of this microencapsulated casein/GA composite forms smooth, dense agglomerates and has high viscoelasticity, which effectively improved casein's emulsifying activity (8.66 ± 0.17 m2/g). After the casein/GA complexes microencapsulation, a higher viable count was detected after gastrointestinal digestion in vitro, and the activity of L. plantarum is more stable (about 7.51 log CFU/mL) during 35 days of storage at 4 °C. The results of study will help to design lactic acid bacteria encapsulation systems based on the GIT environment for the oral delivery strategy.

A facile and eco-friendly synthesis of PW12/TiO2@MgCO3 hollow tubes (PW12·âˆ¼· H3[PW12O40] = polyoxometalate) using a soluble and reusable MgCO3·3H2O micro-rods template was reported for the first time. The resultant hollow tubes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-visible spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which indicated that the [PW12O40]3- structure remained intact within the hollow tubes. Furthermore, the specific surface area (88.982 m2/g) and average pore size (2.6 nm) of the PW12/TiO2@MgCO3 hollow tubes were calculated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. This study explored the catalytic performance of PW12/TiO2@MgCO3 hollow tubes using a three-level Box-Behnken design (BBD), through which optimization curves were designed. The desulfurization of model fuel using hollow tubes was optimally performed when the catalyst dose, time, temperature, and oxidant/sulfur (O/S) were 20-80 gm, 80-120 min, 25-80 °C and 3-8 molar ratio, respectively. These results were further processed, and the experiments were replicated twenty-nine times using a model based on two quadratic polynomials to create a response surface methodology (RSM). This permits a mathematical correlation linking the desulfurization and experimental parameters. The optimal performance of reaction mixture was evaluated to be 80 mg for catalyst concentration, 25 °C of temperature, reaction time of 100 min, and 5.5 for oxidant/sulfur molar ratio from 20 mL of octane simulation oil containing 350 ppm dibenzothiophene (DBT). The predicted desulfurization rate of the model fuel under these optimal conditions was 95.3%. The correspondence between the experimental results and predicted values was verified based on regression analysis, with an R2 value greater than 0.99. These hollow tubes could be used for their desulfurization properties ten times a row without significantly reducing catalytic activity.

The use of reverse osmosis (RO) for water reclamation has become an essential part of the water supply owing to the ever-increasing water demand and the utmost performance of the RO membranes. Despite the global RO implementation, its inferior rejection against low molecular weight contaminants of emerging concerns (CECs) (i.e., N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA)) and propensity to fouling remain bottle-neck thus affecting process robustness for water reuse. This study aims to enhance both the rejection and antifouling properties of the RO membrane. Herein for the first time, we report RO membrane modification using polydopamine nanospheres (PDAns) followed by aminated-graphene oxide (AGO) deposition as an effective approach to overcome these challenges. The modification of the RO membrane using PDAns-AGO resulted in 89.3 ± 2.7% rejection compared to the pristine RO membrane which demonstrated 69.2 ± 2.1% NDMA rejection. This significant improvement can be ascribed to the plugging and shielding of defective areas (formed during interfacial polymerization) of the polyamide layer through active PDAns and AGO layers and to the added sieving mechanism that arose through narrow channels of the AGO owing to its reduction. Moreover, the in-situ and non-destructive fouling monitoring using optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed that the PDAns-AGO coating enhanced both the anti-scaling and anti-biofouling characteristics. The improved hydrophilicity and bactericidal effect together with roughness and surface charge suppression synergistically enhanced anti-fouling properties. This study provides a new direction for safe and cost-effective water reuse practices. The membrane with high selectivity against CECs such as NDMA has the potential to eliminate permeate staging using second pass RO and other advanced oxidation processes which are utilized as a tertiary treatment to make reclaimed water suitable for potable/non-potable application.

Sensitivity analyses of rate constants for chemical kinetics of the pyrolysis reaction are essential for the efficient valorization of plastic waste into combustible liquids and gases. Finding the role of individual rate constants can provide important information on the process conditions, quality, and quantity of the pyrolysis products. The reaction temperature and time can also be reduced through these analyses. For sensitivity analysis, one possible approach is to estimate the kinetic parameters using MLRM (multiple linear regression model) in SPSS. To date, no research reports on this research gap are documented in the published literature. In this study, MLRM is applied to kinetic rate constants, which slightly differ from experimental data. The experimental and statistically predicted rate constants varied up to 200% from their original values to perform sensitivity analysis using MATLAB software. The product yield was examined after 60 min of thermal pyrolysis at a fixed temperature of 420 °C. The predicted rate constant "k(8)" with a slight difference of 0.02 and 0.04 from the experiment revealed 85% oil yield and 40% light wax after 60 min of operation. The heavy wax was missing from the products under these conditions. This rate constant can be utilized to maximize the commercial-scale extraction of liquids and light waxes from thermal pyrolysis of plastics.

Coverage of COVID-19 vaccines in Somalia remains low, including among health workers. This study aimed to identify factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among health workers. In this cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study, 1476 health workers in government and private health facilities in Somalia's federal member states were interviewed face-to-face about their perceptions of and attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccines. Both vaccinated and unvaccinated health workers were included. Factors associated with vaccine hesitancy were evaluated in a multivariable logistic regression analysis. Participants were evenly distributed by sex, and their mean age was 34 (standard deviation 11.8) years. The overall prevalence of vaccine hesitancy was 38.2%. Of the 564 unvaccinated participants, 39.0% remained hesitant. The factors associated with vaccine hesitancy were: being a primary health care worker (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.37, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15-4.90) or a nurse (aOR = 2.12, 95% CI: 1.05-4.25); having a master's degree (aOR = 5.32, 95% CI: 1.28-22.23); living in Hirshabelle State (aOR = 3.23, 95% CI: 1.68-6.20); not having had COVID-19 (aOR = 1.96, 95% CI: 1.15-3.32); and having received no training on COVID-19 (aOR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.02-2.32). Despite the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in Somalia, a large proportion of unvaccinated health workers remain hesitant about being vaccinated, potentially influencing the public's willingness to take the vaccine. This study provides vital information to inform future vaccination strategies to achieve optimal coverage.

The unique flavor of Pixian douban (PXDB) is widely acknowledged to be associated with its maturation process. However, there is limited knowledge about the non-volatile metabolites that contribute to this flavor. To bridge this gap, this study employed a metabolomics approach and a feature-based molecular network (FBMN) analysis to investigate the non-volatile metabolite fingerprints of PXDB during its two-year maturation process. Specifically, the FBMN tool was utilized to annotate the flavonoid, amide derivatives, and lipid components of PXDB for the first time. Subsequently, the MolNetEnhancer tool was employed to complement the FBMN annotation and identify eight substructural components. Finally, metabolomics analysis was carried out to identify 45 key metabolites involved in flavor formation across 10 major metabolic pathways (p < 0.05). Overall, the findings of this study have significantly expanded our understanding of the non-volatile metabolite fingerprinting and flavor formation mechanisms.

The seed extract of Foeniculum vulgare (FV) was used for the preparation of a nanosuspension (NS) with an enhanced bioavailability of phytoconstituents. Subsequently, it was employed as a potent source of polyphenols, such as quercetin and kaempferol, to accelerate the regeneration and recovery of motor and sensory function in injured nerves. The NS was administered through daily gauging as NS1 (0.5 mg/mL) and NS2 (15 mg/mL), at a dose rate of 2 g/kg body weight until the end of the study. The NS-mediated retrieval of motor functions was studied by evaluating muscle grip strength and the sciatic functional index. The recovery of sensory functions was assessed by the hotplate test. Several well-integrated biochemical pathways mediate the recovery of function and the regeneration of nerves under controlled blood glucose and oxidative stress. Consequently, the NS-treated groups were screened for blood glucose, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and total oxidant status (TOS) compared to the control. The NS administration showed a significant potential to enhance the recuperation of motor and sensory functions. Moreover, the oxidative stress was kept under check as a result of NS treatments to facilitate neuronal generation. Thus, the nanoformulation of FV with polyphenolic contents accelerated the reclamation of motor and sensory function after nerve lesion.

Recently, there has been considerable interest in a new family of transition metal carbides, carbonitrides, and nitrides referred to as MXenes (Ti3C2Tx) due to the variety of their elemental compositions and surface terminations that exhibit many fascinating physical and chemical properties. As a result of their easy formability, MXenes may be combined with other materials, such as polymers, oxides, and carbon nanotubes, which can be used to tune their properties for various applications. As is widely known, MXenes and MXene-based composites have gained considerable prominence as electrode materials in the energy storage field. In addition to their high conductivity, reducibility, and biocompatibility, they have also demonstrated outstanding potential for applications related to the environment, including electro/photocatalytic water splitting, photocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction, water purification, and sensors. This review discusses MXene-based composite used in anode materials, while the electrochemical performance of MXene-based anodes for Li-based batteries (LiBs) is discussed in addition to key findings, operating processes, and factors influencing electrochemical performance.

Although fresh-cut button mushrooms are popular with consumers, quality deterioration presents a significant shelf-life challenge. In this study, fresh-cut button mushrooms were treated with 0.25 g/L l-cysteine (l-Cys) and evaluated in terms of quality, physiology, and transcriptome sequencing. The results indicated that l-Cys application significantly delayed the browning degree of fresh-cut button mushrooms and reduced weight loss. l-Cys treatment reduced the malondialdehyde content, lipoxygenase activity, and reducing sugar levels while enhancing the soluble protein and total phenolic content. Furthermore, l-Cys treatment reduced the O2- generation rate and H2O2 accumulation while enhancing the catalase activity. Moreover, l-Cys improved the superoxide dismutase, glutathione reductase, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activities while reducing those of polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase. Additionally, l-Cys treatment increased endogenous H2S production and AbCBS enzyme activity while decreasing AbCSE enzyme activity. Notably, additional treatment with 1 mM propargylglycine significantly reduced the effect of l-Cys. Moreover, transcriptome sequencing analysis indicated that the differentially expressed genes in the l-Cys group were primarily related to the reactive oxygen species metabolism, oxidoreductase process, membrane integrality, and sulfur metabolism. These findings suggested that l-Cys treatment delayed the aging and extended the shelf life of fresh-cut button mushrooms by regulating the active oxygen species metabolism and water loss and stimulating endogenous H2S production.
