RESUMO

Including patients in interprofessional education (IPE) programs adds value to healthcare students' education. However, little is known about the perspective and experience of the involved patient educators (PEs). An IPE program (Interprofessional Seminars, IPS) that includes PEs was developed in France in 2009. The aim of this study was to describe the PEs' perspectives about their involvement in IPS. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews with 32 experienced PEs, and analyzed using a reflexive thematic analysis in the framework of an inductive approach. PEs had an identifiable profile. They were motivated by a sense of civic service, had well-developed communication skills, and were prepared to share their experiential knowledge with students. They were concerned about their capacity to express themselves in front of students and the need to consolidate their involvement through a structured partnership that involves briefing, collaboration, remuneration, and feedback. They proposed to establish compulsory interprofessional training for all students and to strengthen the collaboration between an interprofessional group of students and a PE. Our results highlight the PEs' desire to be involved in IPE and to develop a genuine patient-student partnership. These insights should support the systematic integration of PEs in IPE.

RESUMO

Conventional analytical techniques allow for the diagnosis of leukemia, blood and bone marrow cancers, as well as their classification into the different subtypes. However, a better understanding of the cancer treatment through cell apoptosis staging is still required. Evaluation of the timeline and responses of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells to the arsenic trioxide (ATO) treatment is essential for determining the oral dosage in leukemia prognosis. Here, an Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) indentation approach has been used to evaluate the mechanical responses of cellular responses of APL cells to ATO treatment, alongside well-established cell viability assays, as a novel method to determine the impact of drugs. In addition, cell morphology was quantified to monitor cellular apoptosis. Viability, morphology and elasticity changes of NB4 cells (derived from Human APL patients) were correlated to different time courses of the ATO treatments. Unveiling the relationships among structural, morphological and nanomechanical properties in response to ATO drug treatment promises to pave the way for novel diagnostic tools for drug screening and for a better understanding of the specific physical and biological effects of drugs on diseased cells.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: the Diagnostic Interview for Narcissism, an instrument developed by Gunderson and associates to assess pathological narcissistic traits in adults, has been adapted for use with parents of preadolescents as a semi-structured interview. A sixth section has been added to assess the parental narcissistic investment of the child. METHODS: the sample consists of 21 parents of children (aged 8-13 years) at risk for narcissistic personality disorder. An interviewer-observer design, with independent interview evaluation, was used to assess inter-rater reliabilities. Both raters were blind to diagnostic information. RESULTS: Very good inter-rater reliabilities (ranging from .85 to 1.00) were obtained for all 35 statements of this Parent version of the DIN (P-DIN). Good internal consistencies a=0.82, a=0.88, a=0.69, respectively) were obtained for the first three Sections of the P-DIN, which include all the DSM-IV criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Section V, Social/Moral Adaptation (a=0.54), and Section VI, Parental Narcissistic Investment of the Child (a=0.62), had weaker internal consistencies. Section IV, Mood States, had the lowest internal consistency (a=0.50). Finally, a high reliability coefficient was obtained for the total scale (a=0.92, 32 statements for Sections I to V). CONCLUSION: present results of this pilot study justify further research into the P-DIN psychometric properties.
