Seven pairs of undescribed monoterpenoid polyprenylated acylphloroglucinol enantiomers [(±)-hypermonanones A-G (1-7)], together with three known analogues, were identified from the whole plant of Hypericum monanthemum Hook. The structures of these compounds were determined by analyses of their UV, HRESIMS, 1D/2D NMR spectroscopic data, and NMR calculations. The absolute configurations of these compounds were assigned by ECD calculations after chiral HPLC separation. Diverse monoterpene moieties were fused at C-3/C-4 of the dearomatized acylphloroglucinol core, which led to 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran-integrated angular or linear type 6/6/6 tricyclic skeletons in 1-7. Compounds (-)-2 and (+)-2 exhibited significant NO inhibitory activity against LPS induced RAW264.7 cells with the IC50 values of 7.07 ± 1.02 µM and 11.39 ± 0.24 µM, respectively.

This study selected 15 key predictors of the maximum of 8-hour averaged ozone (O3) concentration (O3-8h), using the O3 concentration of Haikou and ERA5 reanalysis data from 2015 to 2020, and constructed a multiple linear regression (MLR) model, support vector machine (SVM) model, and BP neural network (BPNN) model, to predict and test the O3-8h concentration of Haikou in 2021. The results showed that the absolute value of correlation coefficients between the O3-8h and related key prediction factors was mainly among 0.2 and 0.507. The 1 000 hPa relative humidity (RH1000), wind direction (WD1000), and 875 hPa meridional wind (v875) showed a good indicative effect on the O3-8h, with the absolute correlation value exceeding 0.4. The three prediction models could predict the seasonal variation in the O3-8h in Haikou, which was larger in the winter half year and smaller in the summer half year. The root mean square error(RMSE) was the smallest (22.29 µg·m-3) in the BPNN model. The correlation coefficients between the predicted values of three statistical models and observations were ranked as 0.733 (BPNN) > 0.724 (SVM) > 0.591 (MLR), all passing the 99.9% significance test. For the prediction of the O3-8h level, we found that TS scores of these three prediction models decreased with the increase in O3-8h concentration level. Relatively, the point over rate and not hit rate increased with the rise in O3-8h concentration level. TS scores of the SVM and BPNN model were relatively larger than those of MLR, especially in the light pollution level with TS scores remaining above 70%, indicating a better prediction capability.

Paulownia fortunei is an ecologically and economically valuable tree cultivated for its rapid growth and high-quality timber. To enhance Paulownia germplasm, we have developed the elite variety QingT with patented advantages in growth rate and apical dominance. To illuminate the genetic basis of QingT's superior traits, here we harness comparative population genomics to analyze genomic variation patterns between QingT and common Paulownia. We performed whole-genome re-sequencing of 30 QingT and 30 common samples, detecting 15.6 million SNPs and 2.6 million indels. Phylogeny and population structure analyses robustly partitioned common and QingT into distinct groups which indicate robust genome stabilization. QingT exhibited reduced heterozygosity and linkage disequilibrium decay compared to common Paulownia, reflecting high recombination, indicating hybridizing effects with common white-flowered string is the source of its patented advantages. Genome selection scans uncovered 25 regions of 169 genes with elevated nucleotide diversity, indicating selection sweeps among groups. Functional analysis of sweep genes revealed upregulation of ribosomal, biosynthesis, and growth pathways in QingT, implicating enhanced protein production and developmental processes in its rapid growth phenotype. This study's insights comprehensively chart genomic variation during Paulownia breeding, localizing candidate loci governing agronomic traits, and underpinnings of future molecular breeding efforts to boost productivity.

PURPOSE: Carotid artery web (CaW) is a rare focal fibromuscular dysplasia that can lead to embolic strokes with large vessel occlusion. This condition can be effectively treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Our study aims to assess the prevalence of CaW among patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who underwent EVT and to compare the clinical characteristics of CaW with other carotid artery pathologies. METHODS: We enrolled consecutive patients with AIS who underwent EVT at a single medical center and two regional teaching hospitals in Taiwan from September 2014 to December 2021. We compared CaW with carotid dissection (CaD) and carotid large artery atherosclerosis (CaLAA) in terms of patient demographics and thrombus histological findings. RESULTS: Of the 576 AIS patients who underwent EVT, four (mean age: 50 years) were diagnosed with CaW, resulting in a prevalence of 0.69%. Among these four patients, three experienced successful reperfusion after EVT and achieved functional independence (defined as a modified Rankin Scale score ≤2) three months post-stroke. Importantly, none of the CaW patients suffered a recurrent stroke within one year. Patients with CaW were younger than those with CaD or CaLAA, and exhibited fewer vascular risk factors. Additionally, CaW was associated with distal occlusion sites. The thrombus composition in CaW patients was similar to that in CaD patients. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, CaW is a rare finding among Asian patients with carotid artery disease who undergo for AIS. It is more prevalent in younger patients with a limited number of vascular risk factors.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, while macrophages as key players in plaque progression and destabilization are promising targets for atherosclerotic plaque imaging. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) has emerged as a powerful noninvasive imaging technique for the evaluation of atherosclerotic plaques within arterial walls. However, the visualization of macrophages within atherosclerotic plaques presents considerable challenges due to the intricate pathophysiology of the disease and the dynamic behavior of these cells. Biocompatible ferrite nanoparticles with diverse surface ligands possess the potential to exhibit distinct relaxivity and cellular affinity, enabling improved imaging capabilities for macrophages in atherosclerosis. In this work, we report macrophage-affinity nanoparticles for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of atherosclerosis via tailoring nanoparticle surface coating. The ultrasmall zinc ferrite nanoparticles (Zn0.4Fe2.6O4) as T1 contrast agents were synthesized and modified with dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyhydrocinnamic acid, and phosphorylated polyethylene glycol to adjust their surface charges to be positively, negatively, and neutrally charged, respectively. In vitro MRI evaluation shows that the T1 relaxivity for different surface charged Zn0.4Fe2.6O4 nanoparticles was three higher than that of the clinically used Gd-DTPA. Furthermore, in vivo atherosclerotic plaque MR imaging indicates that positively charged Zn0.4Fe2.6O4 showed superior MRI efficacy on carotid atherosclerosis than the other two, which is ascribed to high affinity to macrophages of positively charged nanoparticles. This work provides improved diagnostic capability and a better understanding of the molecular imaging of atherosclerosis.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Double-filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) can be used to remove circulating pathogenic molecules. By reclaiming filtered albumin, DFPP reduces the need for albumin and plasma replacement. Large proteins, such as fibrinogen, are removed. Our institution adopts a DFPP treatment protocol consisting of active surveillance of coagulation profiles and prophylactic supplementation of blood products containing fibrinogen. This study aims to investigate the effects of consecutive DFPP treatments on serial coagulation profiles and the risk of bleeding under this protocol. METHODS: Serial laboratory data and bleeding events at a single tertiary medical center were prospectively collected. Prophylactic transfusion of cryoprecipitate or fresh frozen plasma (FFP) was instituted if significant coagulopathy or a clinically evident bleeding event was observed. RESULTS: After the first treatment session, plasma fibrinogen levels decreased from 332 ± 106 mg/dL to 96 ± 44 mg/dL in the 37 study patients. In the following sessions, plasma fibrinogen levels were maintained at around 100 mg/dL under prophylactic transfusion. No major bleeding events were recorded, but five (14%) patients experienced minor bleeding. CONCLUSION: DFPP treatment might be performed safely along with active monitoring of coagulation profiles and prophylactic transfusion of cryoprecipitate or FFP.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial hypoxia has been demonstrated in many cardiomyopathies and is related to development of myocardial fibrosis. However, myocardial hypoxia and its association with myocardial fibrosis are understudied in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)-associated cardiomyopathy. PURPOSE: To evaluate myocardial hypoxia by oxygenation-sensitive (OS) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and further explore its association with fibrosis. STUDY TYPE: Prospective. SUBJECTS: Ninety-one DMD boys (8.78 ± 2.32) and 30 healthy boys (9.07 ± 2.30). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3 T, Balanced steady-state free procession, Modified Look-Locker inversion recovery sequence and Single-shot phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequence. ASSESSMENT: Cardiac MRI data, including left ventricular functional, segmental native T1, and oxygenation signal-intensity (SI) according to AHA 17-segment model, were acquired. Patients were divided into LGE+ and LGE- groups. In patients with LGE, all segments were further classified as positive or negative segments by segmentally presence/absence of LGE. STATISTICAL TESTS: Variables were compared using Student's t, Wilcoxon, Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way analysis of variance. Bivariate Pearson or Spearman correlation were calculated to determine association between oxygenation SI and native T1. Variables with P < 0.10 in the univariable analysis were included in multivariable model. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to assess the performance of OS in diagnosing myocardial hypoxia. RESULTS: The myocardial oxygenation SI of DMD was significantly decreased in all segments compared with normal controls, and more obvious in the LGE+ segments (0.46 ± 0.03 vs. 0.52 ± 0.03). For patients with and without LGE, myocardial oxygenation SI were significantly negatively correlated with native T1 in all segments (r = -0.23 to -0.42). The inferolateral oxygenation SI was a significant independent associator of LGE presence (adjusted OR = 0.900). DATA CONCLUSION: Myocardial hypoxia evaluated by the OS-Cardiac-MRI indeed occurs in DMD and associate with myocardial fibrosis, which might be used as a biomarker in assessing myocardial damage in DMD. Background: Coronary magnetic resonance angiography (CMRA) is being increasingly used in pediatric patients with congenital coronary artery anomalies (CAAs). However, the data on the free-breathing self-navigation technique, which has the potential to simplify the acquisition plan with a high success rate at 3T, remain scarce. This study investigated the clinical application value of self-navigated (sNAV) CMRA at 3T in pediatric patients with suspected CAAs and compared it to conventional diaphragmatic-navigated (dNAV) CMRA. Methods: From April 2019 to March 2022, we enrolled 65 pediatric patients (38 males and 27 females; mean age 8.5±4.4 years) with suspected CAAs in this prospective study. All patients underwent both dNAV and sNAV sequences in random order with gradient recalled echo (GRE) sequence during free breathing, with 39 (20 males and 19 females; mean age 10.2±3.6 years) of them additionally undergoing coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) or invasive coronary angiography (ICA). We measured and compared the success rate, scan time, visual score of the 9 main coronary artery segments, vessel sharpness, and vessel length between the two sequences. The diagnostic accuracy was compared using CCTA or ICA as a reference. Results: The success rate of sNAV-CMRA (65/65, 100%) was higher than that of dNAV-CMRA (61/65, 93.8%) (P<0.001), and the scan time of sNAV-CMRA (7.3±2.5 min) was significantly shorter than that of dNAV-CMRA (9.1±3.6 min) (P=0.002). The acquisition efficiency of dNAV-CMRA was 40.5%±12.9%, while for sNAV-CMRA, 100% acquisition efficiency was achieved. There was no significant difference in vessel length of any of the coronary arteries, visual score, or vessel sharpness of the left circumflex coronary artery (LCX) between the two sequences (all P values >0.050). The visual score and vessel sharpness of the right coronary artery and left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) were significantly improved in dNAV-CMRA compared with sNAV-CMRA (all P values <0.050). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) for the detection of CAAs were not significantly different between the two sequences (all P values >0.050). Conclusions: Our findings demonstrated that both sNAV and dNAV in CMRA provide clinical application value in pediatric patients with CAAs and have similar diagnostic performance. Although the image quality of sNAV-CMRA is slightly inferior compared to that of dNAV-CMRA, sNAV-CMRA allows for a simpler scanning procedure.

OBJECTIVES: Chronic hyperglycemia is considered as an important factor to promote the neurodegenerative process of brain, and the synaptic plasticity as well as heterogeneity of hippocampal cells are thought to be associated with cognitive dysfunction in the early process of neurodegeneration. To date, fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5) has been highlighted its protective role in multiple neurodegenerative diseases. However, the potential molecular and cellular mechanisms of FNDC5 on synaptic plasticity regulation in cognitive impairment (CI) induced by diabetics are still need to known. METHODS/DESIGN: To investigate the heterogeneity and synaptic plasticity of hippocampus in animals with CI state induced by hyperglycemia, and explore the potential role of FNDC5 involved in this process. Firstly, the single cell sequencing was performed based on the hippocampal tissue from db diabetic mice induced CI and normal health control mice by ex vivo experiments; and then the integrated analysis and observations validation using Quantitative Real-time PCR, western blot as well as other in vitro studies. RESULTS: We observed and clarified the sub-cluster of type IC spiral ganglion neurons expressed marker genes as Trmp3 and sub-cluster of astrocytes with marker gene as Atp1a2 in hippocampal cells from diabetic animals induced CI and the effect of those on neuron-glial communication. We also found that FNDC5\BDNF-Trk axis was involved in the synaptic plasticity regulation of hippocampus. In high glucose induced brain injury model in vitro, we investigated that FNDC5 significantly regulates BDNF expression and that over-expression of FNDC5 up-regulated BDNF expression (p < 0.05) and can also significantly increase the expression of synapsin-1 (p < 0.05), which is related to synaptic plasticity, In addition, the unbalanced methylation level between H3K4 and H3K9 in Fndc5 gene promoter correlated with significantly down-regulated expression of FNDC5 (p < 0.05) in the hyperglycemia state. CONCLUSION: The current study revealed that the synaptic plasticity of hippocampal cells in hyperglycemia might be regulated by FNDC5\BDNF-Trk axis, playing the protective role in the process of CI induced by hyperglycemia and providing a target for the early treatment of hyperglycemia induced cognitive dysfunction in clinic.

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a developmental neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary tics, the neurological basis of which remains unclear. Although traditional resting-state MRI (rfMRI) studies have identified abnormal static functional connectivity (FC) in patients with TS, dynamic FC (dFC) remains relatively unexplored. The rfMRI data of 54 children with TS and 46 typically developing children (TDC) were analyzed using group independent component analysis to obtain independent components (ICs), and a sliding-window approach to generate dFC matrices. All dFC matrices were clustered into two reoccurring states, the state transition metrics were obtained. We conducted Granger causality and nodal topological analyses to further investigate the brain regions that may play the most important roles in driving whole-brain switching between different states. We found that children with TS spent more time in state 2 (PFDR < 0.001), a state characterized by strong connectivity between ICs, and switched more quickly between states (PFDR = 0.025) than TDC. The default mode network (DMN) may play an important role in abnormal state transitions because the FC that changed the most between the two states was between the DMN and other networks. Additionally, the DMN had increased degree centrality, efficiency and altered causal influence on other networks. Certain alterations related to executive function (r = -0.309, P < 0.05) and tic symptom ratings (r = 0.282; 0.413, P < 0.05) may represent important aspects of the pathophysiology of TS. These findings facilitate our understanding of the neural basis for the clinical presentation of TS.

OBJECTIVES: The current study aimed to assess myocardial microcirculation dysfunction via cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) first-pass perfusion imaging in children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). METHODS: In total, 67 children with DMD and 15 controls who underwent contrast-enhanced CMR first-pass perfusion imaging were enrolled in this study. CMR first-pass perfusion and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequences were acquired. Further, the global, regional, and coronary artery distribution area perfusion indexes (PI), upslope (%BL), maximum signal intensity (MaxSI), time to maximum signal intensity (TTM), and baseline SI were analysed. The perfusion parameters of the LGE positive (+), LGE negative (-), and control groups were compared. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to assess the association between myocardial microcirculation and conventional cardiac function and LGE parameters. RESULTS: The LGE+ group had a significantly lower global and apical-ventricular MaxSI than the control group (all P < .05). The left anterior descending arterial (LAD), left circumflex coronary arterial (LCX), and right coronary arterial (RCA) segments of the LGE+ group had a lower upslope and MaxSI than those of the control group (all P < .05). The LAD segments of the LGE- group had a lower MaxSI than those of the control group (41.10 ± 11.08 vs 46.36 ± 13.04; P < .001). The LCX segments of the LGE- group had a lower PI and upslope than those of the control group (11.05 ± 2.84 vs 12.46 ± 2.82; P = .001; 59.31 ± 26.76 vs 68.57 ± 29.99; P = .002). Based on the correlation analysis, the upslope, MaxSI, and TTM were correlated with conventional cardiac function and LGE extent. CONCLUSIONS: Paediatric patients with DMD may present with microvascular dysfunction. This condition may appear before LGE and may be correlated with coronary artery blood supply and LGE extent. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: First-pass perfusion parameters may reveal the status of myocardial microcirculation and reflect the degree of myocardial injury at an earlier time in DMD patients. Perfusion parameters should be analysed not only via global or base, middle, and apical segments but also according to coronary artery distribution area, which may detect myocardial microvascular dysfunction at an earlier stage, in DMD patients with LGE-.

Two new aporphine-derived alkaloids, aporaloids C and D (1 and 2), along with eight known biogenetically related alkaloids (3-10) were isolated from the stems of Fissistigma maclurei Merr. Their structures were elucidated by detailed analysis of NMR, HRESIMS, MS, IR, UV and Optical rotations data. Compounds 1 and 2 represent a rare example of N-methylol aporphine-derived alkaloids from natural sources. The inhibitory effect of all compounds on the proliferation of primary synovial cells was evaluated. Compound 3 showed potent inhibitory effect on the proliferation of synoviocytes with an IC50 value of 4.8 µM. Compounds 1, 2, 6-9 and 10 exhibited moderate inhibitory activity on synoviocytes, with IC50 values of 36.8, 37.1, 31.2 µM, 32.5, 36.3, 36.8 and 18.2 µM, respectively.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the scan time, image quality, and diagnostic performance of self-navigated coronary MR angiography (SN-CMRA) for coronary aneurysm (CAA) detection in Kawasaki disease (KD) patients and compare it with diaphragm-navigated CMRA (DN-CMRA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: SN-CMRA and DN-CMRA were performed on 76 pediatric patients with KD (48 males, 6.75 ± 3.59 years). Thirty-three of whom underwent coronary CT angiography (CCTA)/invasive coronary angiography (ICA). The scan time and qualitative and quantitative image quality assessment were compared between the two sequences. The diagnostic performance for CAA detection by the two approaches using CCTA/ICA as the reference standard was compared on per-patient, per-vessel, and per-segment basis. RESULTS: The scan time of SN-CMRA was significantly shorter than that of DN-CMRA (7.49 ± 2.31 min vs. 10.03 ± 4.47 min, p < 0.001). There was no difference in overall and segmental image quality to reach the clinical diagnostic criteria between the two sequences (all p > 0.05). No significant difference in vessel length of the three main coronary arteries was found between the two approaches (all p > 0.05). Moreover, SN-CMRA showed no difference from DN-CMRA in contrast ratio of blood-myocardium (1.25 (interquartile range [IQR], 1.06 to 1.51) vs. 1.18 (IQR, 0.95 to 1.64), p = 0.706). There was no difference in the diagnostic accuracy of SN-CMRA and DN-CMRA for CAA detection on per-patient, per-vessel, or per-segment basis (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: SN-CMRA at 3T showed reliable diagnostic performance and application value for CAA detection in children with KD. Compared with DN-CMRA, SN-CMRA can simplify the scanning procedure and shorten the scan time, achieving comparable image quality and diagnostic accuracy. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Coronary aneurysm in children with Kawasaki disease (KD) can be detected by self-navigated coronary MR angiography (CMRA) non-invasively and without radiation, achieving comparable image quality and diagnostic performance as diaphragm-navigated CMRA while shortening scanning time. It can provide reference for risk stratification and treatment management of KD. BACKGROUND: Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered an objective biomarker of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), but the longitudinal progression of MRI biomarkers in gluteal muscle groups and their predictive value for future motor function have not been described. OBJECTIVE: To explore MRI biomarkers of the gluteal muscle groups as predictors of motor function decline in DMD by characterizing the progression over 12 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 112 participants with DMD were enrolled and underwent MRI examination of the gluteal muscles to determine fat fraction and longitudinal relaxation time (T1). Investigations were based on gluteal muscle groups including flexors, extensors, adductors, and abductors. The North Star Ambulatory Assessment and timed functional tests were performed. All participants returned for follow-up at an average of 12 months and were divided into two subgroups (functional stability/decline groups) based on changes in timed functional tests. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression methods were used to explore the risk factors associated with future motor function decline. RESULTS: For the functional decline group, all T1 values decreased, while fat fraction values increased significantly over 12 months (P<0.05). For the functional stability group, only the fat fraction of the flexors and abductors increased significantly over 12 months (P<0.05). The baseline T1 value was positively correlated with North Star Ambulatory Assessment and negatively correlated with timed functional tests at the 12-month follow-up (P<0.001), while the baseline fat fraction value was negatively correlated with North Star Ambulatory Assessment and positively correlated with timed functional tests at the 12-month follow-up (P<0.001). Multivariate regression showed that increased fat fraction of the abductors was associated with future motor function decline (model 1: odds ratio [OR]=1.104, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.026~1.187, P=0.008; model 2: OR=1.085, 95% CI: 1.013~1.161, P=0.019), with an area under the curve of 0.874. CONCLUSION: Fat fraction of the abductors is a powerful predictor of future motor functional decline in DMD patients at 12 months, underscoring the importance of focusing early on this parameter in patients with DMD.

River and reservoir bacterial communities are the most basic part of river biomes and ecosystem structure, and play an important role in river biological processes. Yet, it remains unclear how highly regulated dam reservoirs affect both soil and sediment bacterial communities. A temporal distribution pattern of bacterial communities was investigated using Illumina MiSeq sequencing in a transition section of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR). In total, 106,682 features belong to the bacteria kingdom, encompassing 95 phyla, 228 classes, 514 orders, 871 families, 1959 genera, and 3,053 species. With water level regulation, Shannon diversity index, and observed species differed significantly, with no significant difference in Simpson evenness. Both in the high water level period (October) and the low water level period (June), Proteobacteria, Acidobacteri, and Chloroflexi were the most abundant phyla. Whereas, based on PCA plots and Circos plot, the microbial community structure has changed significantly. LEfSe method was used to identify the classified bacterial taxa with significant abundance differences between the low water level and high water level periods. KOs (KEGG Orthology) pathway enrichment analysis were conducted to investigate functional and related metabolic pathways in groups. To some extent, it can be inferred that water level regulation affects community growth by affecting the metabolism of the microbial community.

Based on ambient air quality data, meteorological observation data, and satellite remote sensing data, the temporal and spatial variations in ozone (O3) pollution, the sensitivity of O3, and its relationship with meteorological factors in Hainan Island were analyzed in this study. The results showed that the maximum daily 8-h moving mean (O3-8h) in western and northern cities in Hainan Island was higher than that in the central, eastern, and southern cities. O3-8h was the highest in 2015, and O3-8h exceeding the standard proportion was the largest in 2019. In addition, O3-8h was positively correlated with average temperature (P<0.1), sunshine duration (P<0.01), total solar radiation (P<0.01), atmospheric pressure, and average wind speed and was negatively correlated with precipitation (P<0.05) and relative humidity. The satellite remote sensing data showed that the tropospheric NO2 column concentration (NO2-OMI) and HCHO column concentration (HCHO-OMI) displayed opposite trends in Hainan Island from 2015 to 2020. Compared with those in 2015, NO2-OMI increased by 7.74% and HCHO-OMI decreased by 10.2% in 2020. Moreover, Hainan Island belongs to the NOx control area, and the FNR value exhibited a fluctuating downward trend in the past 6 years, with a trend coefficient and climatic trend rate of -0.514 and -0.123 a-1, respectively. A strong correlation was observed between meteorological factors and the FNR value of Hainan Island.

Chain elongation is an environmentally friendly biological technology capable of converting organic wastes into medium chain carboxylic acids (MCCAs). This review aims to offer a comprehensive analysis of MCCA production from organic wastes via chain elongation. Seven kinds of organic wastes are introduced and classified as easily degradable and hardly degradable. Among them, food waste, fruit and vegetable waste are the most potential organic wastes for MCCA production. Combined pretreatment technologies should be encouraged for the pretreatment of hardly degradable organic wastes. Furthermore, the mechanisms during MCCA production are analyzed, and the key influencing factors are evaluated, which affect the MCCA production and chain elongation efficiency indirectly. Extracting MCCA simultaneously is the most important way to improve MCCA production efficiency, and technologies for sequentially extracting different kinds of MCCAs are recommended. Finally, some perspectives for future chain elongation researches are proposed to promote the large-scale application of chain elongation.

Understanding the molecular interaction between ligand and receptor is important for providing the basis for the development of regenerative drugs. Although it has been reported that extracellular phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (Pgk1) can promote the neurite outgrowth of motoneurons, the Pgk1-interacting neural receptor remains unknown. Here we show that neural membranous Enolase-2 exhibits strong affinity with recombinant Pgk1-Flag, which is also evidently demonstrated by immunoelectron microscopy. The 325th-417th domain of Pgk1 interacts with the 405th-431st domain of Enolase-2, but neither Enolase-1 nor Enolase-3, promoting neurite outgrowth. Combining Pgk1 incubation and Enolase-2 overexpression, we demonstrate a highly significant enhancement of neurite outgrowth of motoneurons through a reduced p-P38-T180/p-Limk1-S323/p-Cofilin signaling. Collectively, extracellular Pgk1 interacts neural membrane receptor Enolase-2 to reduce the P38/Limk1/Cofilin signaling which results in promoting neurite outgrowth. The extracellular Pgk1-specific neural receptor found in this study should provide a material for screening potential small molecule drugs that promote motor nerve regeneration.

RESUMO

Numerous studies on the formulation and clinical applications of novel hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) are reported in the scientific literature. However, there are fewer scientometric analysis related to HBOCs. Here, we illustrate recent studies on HBOCs using both a scientometric analysis approach and a scope review method. We used the former to investigate research on HBOCs from 1991 to 2022, exploring the current hotspots and research trends, and then we comprehensively analyzed the relationship between concepts based on the keyword analysis. The evolution of research fields, knowledge structures, and research topics in which HBOCs located are revealed by scientometric analysis. The elucidation of type, acting mechanism, potential clinical practice, and adverse effects of HBOCs helps to clarify the prospects of this biological agent. Scientometrics analyzed 1034 publications in this research field, and these findings provide a promising roadmap for further study.

Previous investigations on heavy metals in the water-sediment compartment focused on their spatial distribution, and the influence of sediment pH and organic matter (OM) on metal environmental occurrences. However, there are limited studies on the effects of physicochemical properties on the migration and transformation of heavy metals in the water-sediment compartments. This study investigated the relationship between the physicochemical properties of sediments and the distribution and chemical speciation of heavy metals, and the potential environmental risk of heavy metals in water and sediment using Risk Assessment Code (RAC) values and the Tessier five-step extraction method. Adsorption and desorption experiments showed that the sediment had weak adsorption and the strongest desorption capacity for Cd. Results of the pH, OM, surface element content, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns suggested that cadmium (Cd) was more likely to partition into the water phase from the sediment during the flooding and water storage periods. When pH was 7-8 and OM content was 3.6-5.9%, the sediment-water distribution coefficient of Cd was low due to its large ionic radius, and the surface adsorption sites were saturated by other elements. These studies can provide a theoretical basis for the management and pollution control of the Three Gorges Reservoir.
