BACKGROUND: Many studies in the field of sexual offending focus on the presence of inadequate coping strategies prior to sexual offending, and the role these strategies play in the sequence of the offense. However, little is known about the development of strategies-such as substance abuse and, especially, deviant sexual fantasies-to manage daily difficulties. OBJECTIVE: To better understand the antecedents of the development of inadequate coping strategies, we conducted a series of structural equation modeling (SEM) analyses. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTINGS: Based on 274 sexual aggressors of children, these analyses were based on components of Maniglio (2011a) theoretical model, in which victimization before the age of 18 leads to the development of psychological problems and, ultimately, the reliance on deviant sexual fantasies as a coping strategy. METHODS: Two models were created through exploratory factorial analysis: the first model comprised 19 manifest variables, while the second model consisted of 15 manifest variables. All the retained variables were related to Maniglio's (2011a) hypothesis. RESULTS: The analyses not only confirm Maniglio's hypothesis but also produced two statistically significant models (RMSEA = 0.069, CFI = 0.93 and TLI = 0.92 for Model 1 & RMSEA = 0.074, CFI = 0.93 and TLI = 0.91 for Model 2) composed of three indirect trajectories and one direct trajectory on the one hand, and four indirect trajectories and one direct trajectory on the other hand. CONCLUSIONS: These results are consistent with those of studies that have highlighted the heterogeneity of sexual aggressors of children.

Neurotrophic keratopathy (NK) is a degenerative corneal disease with a loss of corneal sensitivity and impairment of corneal healing. Low dose insulin eyedrops have been shown to be a simple and effective treatment for refractory NK when the response to the usual treatment is incomplete. At present, there are no commercially available forms, and there is no data regarding the stability of these products as prepared by compounding pharmacies. In this work, we studied the physicochemical and microbiological stability of an insulin ophthalmic formulation obtained by mixing insulin lispro in artificial tears with a polyethylene and propylene glycol base. The stability of this 1IU/mL insulin ophthalmic formulation was analysed for 12 months in low-density polyethylene (LDPE) multidose eye droppers at 4°C. The studied parameters of physicochemical stability were: visual inspection, turbidity, UV spectral absorption, osmolality and pH. In addition, insulin and m-cresol concentrations and quantification of impurities (insulin covalent aggregates and insulin fragments) were studied thanks to the development of a new Size Exclusion Chromatographic method. For unopened eye droppers, all tested physicochemical parameters remained stable for 12 months at 4°C, and excellent microbiological stability was obtained. In conditions of simulated use, these parameters also remained stable for one month at 4°C, and no impact of potential temperature rises on the insulin and m-cresol concentrations in the insulin eyedropper was observed.

INTRODUCTION: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are active in a variety of metastatic cancers. They have a good general tolerance with mainly hepatic and dermatological side effects. Rarely, ophthalmologic side effects may occur: eyelash abnormalities, eyelids abnormalities, disorders of the ocular surface with ocular dryness or even corneal erosions that can even lead to perforation. Regorafenib is a new oral multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor that inhibits multiple protein kinases, including those involved in tumor angiogenesis, oncogenesis and tumor microenvironment. CASE DESCRIPTION: We describe, to the best of our knowledge, the first case of complicated bilateral ulcers of corneal perforation in a patient under REGORAFENIB. OBSERVATION: 20-year-old patient with metastatic chondrosarcomas of the pelvis, mandible and thorax received chemotherapy with REGORAFENIB. A few weeks after initiation of treatment, he experienced an increased dry eye syndrome associated with bilateral corneal ulcers complicated by perforation. Despite discontinuation of chemotherapy and maximal medical and surgical treatment (iterative amniotic membrane grafts and corneal transplantation), the progression was unfavorable. DISCUSSION: This is the first known case of corneal perforation under REGORAFENIB. The pathophysiology is multifactorial. On the one hand, this chemotherapy targets angiogenesis (VEGFR), oncogenesis (KIT, RET, RAF1, BRAF) and the tumor microenvironment (PDGFR, FGFR). On the other hand, other triggers are added, namely mixed dry eye syndrome, hypovitaminosis A (anorexia), the neurotrophic component, as well as the toxicity of chemotherapy via tears. CONCLUSION: First described case of corneal perforation under REGORAFENIB, non-regressive at the end of chemotherapy, and despite medical and surgical treatments. Ophthalmologic surveillance is therefore necessary for patients under chemotherapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, as serious ocular complications, especially corneal ones, may occur.

Time-resolved resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) is one of the developing techniques enabled by the advent of X-ray free electron laser (FEL). It is important to evaluate how the FEL jitter, which is inherent in the self-amplified spontaneous emission process, influences the RIXS measurement. Here, we use a microchannel plate (MCP) based Timepix soft X-ray detector to conduct a time-resolved RIXS measurement at the Ti L3-edge on a charge-density-wave material TiSe2. The fast parallel Timepix readout and single photon sensitivity enable pulse-by-pulse data acquisition and analysis. Due to the FEL jitter, low detection efficiency of spectrometer, and low quantum yield of RIXS process, we find that less than 2% of the X-ray FEL pulses produce signals, preventing acquiring sufficient data statistics while maintaining temporal and energy resolution in this measurement. These limitations can be mitigated by using future X-ray FELs with high repetition rates, approaching MHz such as the European XFEL in Germany and LCLS-II in the USA, as well as by utilizing advanced detectors, such as the prototype used in this study.

Although relatively rare, human-shark interactions and sharks bites are increasing globally, which has led to the development of various mitigation measures. Electric shark deterrents (ESDs) have, so far, been the most effective personal deterrents, but have only been scientifically tested on one of the species most frequently responsible for shark bites, i.e. white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). We tested the effectiveness of five ESDs (E-Shark Force, NoShark, Rpela v2, Freedom + Surf, Freedom + Surf-Shortboard) on bull sharks, Carcharhinus leucas, over a period of 21 days in September 2019, in New Caledonia. Standardised bait was attached 30 cm below an experimental board that had an active ESD for up to 15 min, or until a bull shark touched the bait or the board. We compared the numbers of baits taken, numbers of passes and reactions around the board, as well as the distance between the sharks and the board among ESDs and against a control board with bait and no active ESD. The Freedom + Surf was the most effective ESD, reducing the amounts of baits taken by 42.3%, while the Rpela v2 and Freedom + Surf-Shortboard also significantly reduced the number of baits taken by 16.5% and 16.2% respectively. Mean distance between sharks and the bait was not affected by the ESDs, but the number of approaches and the proportion of reactions were both significantly higher when the Freedom + Surf was active compared to other ESDs. The effectiveness of all ESDs decreased over time, with the likelihood of the bait being taken increasing and the number of approaches and distance between sharks and the bait decreasing. Our findings show that the ability of ESDs to deter bull shark varies between products, with the Freedom + Surf resulting in the most behavioural changes, followed by the Rpela v2 and Freedom + Surf-Shortboard. However, none of the products tested completely stopped sharks from taking the bait.

Gait is one of the most basic movements, and walking activity accomplished in dual task conditions realistically represents daily life mobility. Much is known about diurnal variations of gait components such as muscle power, postural control, and attention. However, paradoxically only little is known about gait itself. The aim of this study was to analyze whether gait parameters show time-of-day fluctuation in simple and dual task conditions. Sixteen young subjects performed sessions at five specific hours (06:00, 10:00, 14:00, 18:00 and 22:00 h), performing a single (walking or counting) and a dual (walking and counting) task. When performing gait in dual task conditions, an additional cognitive task had to be carried out. More precisely, the participants had to count backwards from a two-digit random number by increments of three while walking. Spatio-temporal gait parameters and counting performance data were recorded for analysis. Walking speed significantly decreased, while stride length variability increased when the task condition switched from single to dual. In the single-task condition, diurnal variations were observed in both walking speed and counting speed. Walking speed was higher in the afternoon and in the evening (14:00 and 22:00 h) and lower in the morning (10:00 h). Counting speed was maximum at 10:00 and 14:00 h and minimum at 18:00 h. Nevertheless, no significant diurnal fluctuation was substanytiated in the dual task condition. These results confirm the existing literature about changes in gait between single and dual task conditions. A diurnal pattern of single-task gait could also be highlighted. Moreover, this study suggests that diurnal variations faded in complex dual task gait, when the cognitive load nearly reached its maximum. These findings might be used to reduce the risk for falls, especially of the elderly.

To evaluate the HLA typing performance of a new Long-Range PCR NGS set of reagents and its dedicated software, a panel of 41 reference homozygous cell lines from the International Histocompatibility Working Group (IHWG) and a panel of 376 volunteer bone marrow donors were analyzed for classical and non-classical HLA class I and class II genes. All results, except HLA-DPB1, were obtained without any ambiguities at the 3rd field level. Based on the high resolution performance of the reagents, a number of new alleles have been described not only for classical but also for non-classical HLA class I genes, leading to a more accurate haplotype definition. Linkage disequilibrium between HLA-A and HLA-G genes has been defined at 4th field level of resolution. Moreover, for the first time, HLA-DQA2 and DQB2 polymorphisms and their linkage disequilibrium with DQB1 were described.
