RESUMO

Objective: This research assessed the efficiencies of aloe vera, 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide, and 5% amlexanox in the management of OLP. Materials and Methods: A total of 120 participants diagnosed with oral lichen planus (OLP) were equally divided into three groups and treated with: aloe vera, (Group A), 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide (Group B), and 5% amlexanox (Group C) topical medicaments. The patients were evaluated for pain, using the visual analogue scale (VAS). They were also evaluated for ulcerative lesion type and erosive area on days 1, 7, and 15 of the study. Results: There was a statistically considerable decrease in the VAS pain scale score, reduction in the erosive area on buccal mucosa, and healing of ulcer from day 1st to 15th day with all three tested drugs. Conclusion: All drugs used in this study; aloe vera, triamcinolone acetonide, and amlexanox were effective in treating OLP patients.

RESUMO

Objectives: The goal of the current study was to assess the effectiveness of a commercially available herbal mouthwash with chlorhexidine on the number of Streptococcus mutans in the saliva, the condition of the gingival tissue, and plaque development. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two adults in all, ranging in age from 20 to 30, were divided into two groups at random. Throughout the 14-day clinical trial, Group A (11) and Group B (11) received 10 mL of test herbal mouthwash and chlorhexidine, respectively. Result: Herbal mouthwash was discovered to be equally as effective as chlorhexidine in lowering the salivary mutans streptococci count and in affecting plaque and gingival scores. Conclusion: Alternatives from the herbal world may show to be a reliable and secure therapy option.

RESUMO

Objectives: The objective of this study was to compare ZrO2, polyether ether ketone (PEEK), and ZrO2-PEEK telescopic attachments in terms of retention of overdenture. Methodology: Forty-five acrylic resin models of the lower arch were divided into 3 groups of 15 each. In Group I, primary and secondary crowns were constructed from all zirconia (ZrO2), whereas all PEEK was used for Group II and Group III was made up of ZrO2 PEEK. Results: The mean retention value in Group I was 14.12 ± 3.4 N, in Group II was 15.86 ± 5.1, and in Group III was 22.40 ± 10.3 N. The mean final initial retention value in Group I was 14.50 ± 6.1 N, in Group II was 14.97 ± 8.2, and in Group III was 17.21 ± 9.3 N. A significant difference was observed in intergroup comparison (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Zirconia resulted in maximum retention as compared to other telescopic crown materials.

RESUMO

Haemangiomas are one of the most common of all human birth defects and are based on vascular tissues. These lesions are mainly identified into two groups which are named as (a) capillary and (b) cavernous haemangioma. Capillary haemangioma consists of small capillary vessels which show lobules formation. Cavernous haemangioma consists of large dilated vessels and they can reach to large sizes. Many treatment modalities are evaluated in which some modalities are successful and some are quite disappointing. Surgical excision, irradiation, CO2 freezing, sclerosing agents, cauterization, steroid therapy and watchful waiting are among the treatment methods evaluated. The treatment plan established for Haemangiomas must consider aspects such as size, location, lesion hemodynamics, patient's age and viability of the technique to be used. In the present series of two case reports, the management of haemangioma was done using two different modalities depending on their presentation so that major complications can be avoided and more attention should be paid to more conservative treatment modalities.
