RESUMO

A new method, to the best of our knowledge, based on double-slit (DS) interference is proposed to accurately estimate the shear ratio of the system, with plane wave or spherical wave incidence. Existing shear ratio calibration methods, designed primarily for lateral shearing interferometry (LSI) with plane wave incidence, are not applicable to LSIs directly testing divergent or convergent spherical waves. Equations for calculating the shear ratio using the fringe spacing of the DS interferogram and the NA of the incident spherical wave are derived in this paper. The simulation result shows that the relative error of the shear ratio value is about 0.3%, when the shear ratio is 0.1. In the experiment, the quadriwave LSI is designed with a plug-in feature. The shear ratio at integer multiples of 1/6 Talbot distance from the modified Hartmann mask was calibrated using a DS, and the results were in good agreement with theoretical values, confirming the accuracy of the method. Subsequently, with the assistance of an inductance micrometer, the shear ratio was calibrated at intervals of 0.5 mm, and the results closely matched the theoretical variation of the shear ratio caused by displacement, confirming the high precision of the method.

RESUMO

To assist clinicians in formulating treatment strategies for endometrial cancer (EC), this retrospective study explores the relationship between tumor volume and clinical pathological features, as well as prognosis, in patients undergoing staging surgery. Preoperative pelvic MRI examinations were conducted on 234 histologically confirmed EC patients. The ITK-SNAP software was employed to manually delineate the region of interest in the MRI images and calculate the tumor volume (MRI-TV). The analysis focused on investigating the relationship between MRI-TV and the clinical pathological features and prognosis of EC patients. Larger MRI-TV was found to be associated with various adverse prognostic factors (G3, deep myometrial invasion, cervical stromal invasion, lymphovascular space invasion, lymph node metastasis, advanced international federation of gynecology and obstetrics staging, and receipt of adjuvant therapy). The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that MRI-TV ≥ 8 cm3 predicted deep myometrial invasion, and MRI-TV ≥ 12 cm3 predicted lymph node metastasis. Penalized spline (P-spline) regression analysis identified 14 cm3 of MRI-TV as the optimal prognostic cutoff value. MRI-TV ≥ 14 cm3 was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival and disease-free survival. For patients with MRI-TV ≥ 14 cm3, the disease-free survival rate with adjuvant therapy was superior to that of the sole staging surgery group. This study demonstrates a significant correlation between MRI-TV and clinical pathological features and prognosis in EC. For patients with MRI-TV ≥ 14 cm3, staging surgery followed by adjuvant therapy was superior to sole staging surgery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Malignant tumors of reproductive system seriously threaten women's life and health. We analyzed the changes in mortality and disease burden of cervical cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer in China from 2006 to 2020 to provide a basis for formulating scientific prevention and control measures. METHODS: Annual death data for cervical cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer were collected from the Chinese Cause of Death Surveillance. The crude mortality rate (CMR), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR), annual percentage change (APC), and average APC (AAPC) were applied to analyze the trend of mortality. Loss of life expectancy (LLE) and years of life lost (YLL) were used to assess disease burden. RESULTS: From 2006 to 2020, there was no significant change in the total ASMR and standardized YLL rates of malignant tumors of the reproductive system, leading to an average LLE of 0.18 years. The YLL rate was the highest in the 55-59 age group. The mortality rate and disease burden of the three types of cancer have changed from uterine cancer higher than cervical cancer and ovarian cancer in 2006 to cervical cancer higher than ovarian cancer and uterine cancer in 2020. The ASMR and standardized YLL rate of uterine cancer showed a downward trend, and AAPC was - 5.21% (- 9.31% ~ - 0.91%) and - 6.07% (- 9.45% ~ - 2.58%), respectively. The mortality rates of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer remain high. CONCLUSION: The mortality and disease burden of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system in China are still at a high level. It is necessary to improve screening and prevention strategies as soon as possible, improve the techniques of diagnosis and treatment, and take adequate measures to protect women's life and health.

Malignant tumors of the female reproductive system are the leading causes of women's mortality worldwide, mainly including cervical cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer. Numerous studies have reported mortality changes in the three primary reproductive system cancers among different countries, with inconsistent temporal trends. In 2020, almost 17.51% of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system deaths occurred in China because of the large population base and severe aging. However, there are limited studies on the disease burden of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system in China. This study analyzed the mortality, YLL and LLE of cervical cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer using the National Death Cause Surveillance Dataset from 2006 to 2020. The findings revealed that mortality and disease burden of malignant tumors of the reproductive system showed no significant change. The mortality and disease burden of uterine cancer decreased significantly, but that of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer remain high. Cervical cancer has a higher mortality and disease burden than uterine cancer and ovarian cancer, making it the most severe malignant tumor of the female reproductive system. Screening and HPV vaccination will reduce the mortality and disease burden of cervical cancer in China, but this effect will take many years to manifest. Screening and prevention strategies for high-risk groups of uterine cancer and ovarian cancer should be established as soon as possible. In summary, the management and monitoring of malignant tumors of the female reproductive system should be strengthened.

RESUMO

The human cervical cancer (CC) has been identified as one of the most common tumors in women, and the molecular regulation in CC still remains unclear. The dysregulation of periostin has been found in a variety of cancers, but whether it is involved in the regulation of CC is unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the biological roles of periostin in CC and to explore the potential molecular regulation mechanisms. Here we found that the expression of periostin was overexpressed in CC tissues and CC cell lines (HeLa and SiHa). Knockdown of periostin in HeLa or SiHa cells significantly decreased cell viability, cell migration and invasion, and reduced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Moreover, periostin knockdown suppressed the activation of Akt/the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, which is crucial for periostin to regulate the above biological activities in CC cells. Furthermore, we found that the periostin expression was positively correlated with the expression of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1), and negatively correlated with the expression of microRNA (miR)-202-3p in CC tissues. We confirmed that MALAT1 positively regulated the expression of periostin by negatively modulating miR-202-3p. In addition, the MALAT1/miR-202-3p/periostin axis was deeply associated with the regulation of the cell viability, cell migration and invasion, and EMT in CC cells. Taken together, these findings suggest that periostin, which can be regulated by the MALAT1-miR-202-3p axis, plays an important role in regulating cell viability, cell migration and invasion, and EMT of CC cells via activating Akt/mTOR signaling.
