RESUMO

Currently, inhomogeneous distribution of Zn2+ on the surface of the Zn anode is still the essential reason for dendrite formation and unsatisfactory stability of zinc ion batteries. Given the merits of strong interaction between Sn and Zn, as well as a low nucleation barrier during Zn deposition, the combination of metallic Sn with carbon material is expected to improve the deposition of zinc ions and inhibit the growth of zinc dendrites by guiding the homogeneous plating/stripping of zinc on the electrode surface. In this article, zincophilic Sn nanoparticles with low nucleation barriers and strong interaction with Zn2+ were embedded into 3D N-doped carbon nanofibers using a simple electrostatic spinning technique. Accordingly, when serving as an artificial coating layer for the zinc metal anode, an ultrastable Sn@NCNFs@Zn||Sn@NCNFs@Zn symmetric cell can be achieved for over 3500 h with a low nucleation overpotential of 29.1 mV. Significantly, the full cell device assembled with the as-prepared anode and MnO2 cathode exhibits desirable electrochemical behaviors. Moreover, this simple method could be extended to other metal-carbon composites, and to ensure ease in scaling up as required. Such significant approach can provide an effective strategy for the design of high-performance zinc anodes.

Introduction: Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is a zoonotic pathogen with a global distribution, capable of infecting both pigs and humans. To mitigate the risk of cross-species transmission and potential outbreaks, it is crucial to characterize novel antiviral genes, particularly those from human hosts. Methods: This research used HIEC-6 to investigate PDCoV infection. HIEC-6 cells were infected with PDCoV. Samples were collected 48 h postinfection for proteomic analysis. Results: We discovered differential expression of MRPS6 gene at 48 h postinfection with PDCoV in HIEC-6 cells. The gene expression initially increased but then decreased. To further explore the role of MRPS6 in PDCoV infection, we conducted experiments involving the overexpression and knockdown of this gene in HIEC-6 and Caco2 cells, respectively. Our findings revealed that overexpression of MRPS6 significantly inhibited PDCoV infection in HIEC-6 cells, while knockdown of MRPS6 in Caco2 cells led to a significant increase of virus titer. Furthermore, we investigated the correlation between PDCoV infection and the expression of MRPS6. Subsequent investigations demonstrated that MRPS6 exerted an augmentative effect on the production of IFN-ß through interferon pathway activation, consequently impeding the progression of PDCoV infection in cellular systems. In conclusion, this study utilized proteomic analysis to investigate the differential protein expression in PDCoV-infected HIEC-6 cells, providing evidence for the first time that the MRPS6 gene plays a restrictive role in PDCoV virus infection. Discussion: Our findings initially provide the validation of MRPS6 as an upstream component of IFN-ß pathway, in the promotion of IRF3, IRF7, STAT1, STAT2 and IFN-ß production of HIEC-6 via dual-activation from interferon pathway.

AIM: To evaluate the real-world effectiveness of automated insulin delivery (AID) systems in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched for studies published up until 2 March 2024. We included pragmatic randomized controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, and before-after studies that compared AID systems with conventional insulin therapy in real-world settings and reported continuous glucose monitoring outcomes. Percent time in range (TIR; 3.9-10 mmol/L), time below range (TBR; <3.9 mmol/L), time above range (TAR; >10 mmol/L), and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) level were extracted. Data were summarized as mean differences (MDs) with 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: A total of 23 before-after studies (101 704 participants) were included in the meta-analysis. AID systems were associated with an increased percentage of TIR (11.61%, 10.47 to 12.76; p < 0.001). The favourable effect of AID systems was consistently observed when used continuously for 6 (11.76%) or 12 months (11.33%), and in both children (12.16%) and adults (11.04%). AID systems also showed favourable effects on TBR (-0.53%, -0.63 to -0.42), TAR (-9.65%, -10.63 to -8.67) and HbA1c level (-0.42%, -0.47 to -0.37) when compared with previous treatments. CONCLUSIONS: Similar improvements in glycaemic parameters were observed in real-world settings in RCTs using AID systems in T1D. AID systems benefit both children and adults by increasing TIR for both short- and long-term interventions.

Porcine Deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is a newly identified coronavirus that causes severe intestinal lesions in piglets. However, the understanding of how PDCoV interacts with human hosts is limited. In this study, we aimed to investigate the interactions between PDCoV and human intestinal cells (HIEC-6) by analyzing the transcriptome at different time points post-infection (12 h, 24 h, 48 h). Differential gene analysis revealed a total of 3560, 5193, and 4147 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) at 12 h, 24 h, and 48 h, respectively. The common genes among the DEGs at all three time points were enriched in biological processes related to cytokine production, extracellular matrix, and cytokine activity. KEGG pathway analysis showed enrichment of genes involved in the p53 signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and TNF signaling pathway. Further analysis of highly expressed genes among the DEGs identified significant changes in the expression levels of BUB1, DDIT4, ATF3, GBP2, and IRF1. Comparison of transcriptome data at 24 h with other time points revealed 298 DEGs out of a total of 6276 genes. KEGG analysis of these DEGs showed significant enrichment of pathways related to viral infection, specifically the PI3K-Akt and P38 MAPK pathways. Furthermore, the genes EFNA1 and KITLG, which are associated with viral infection, were found in both enriched pathways, suggesting their potential as therapeutic or preventive targets for PDCoV infection. The enhancement of PDCoV infection in HIEC-6 was observed upon inhibition of the PI3K-Akt and P38 MAPK signaling pathways using sophoridine. Overall, these findings contribute to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying PDCoV infection in HIEC-6 cells and provide insights for developing preventive and therapeutic strategies against PDCoV infection.

Background: Music training involves several cognitive functions in the brain, particularly executive function. Numerous studies have proven a link between the two. Cognitive flexibility is an important component of executive function, however, there has been little study investigating the association between music training and cognitive flexibility. Method: Music training (N = 22) and the control groups (N = 26) were included in the present study. A tone-related oddball task was used to investigate the tone-related inhibition and the switch task was to investigate cognitive flexibility. During the switch task, EEG data were collected. Results: The behavioral results of the oddball task showed that the individuals in the music training group had a shorter reaction time and higher accuracy in both the between-tone and within-tone categories compared to the controls. The behavioral results of the switch task showed similar results, with the music training group exhibiting better reaction time and accuracy performance than the controls. ERP results showed that the music training group had smaller P3 amplitudes and greater N2 and N450 amplitudes than the control group. Discussion: The findings further supported the link between music training and enhanced cognitive function.
