RESUMO

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for applications such as water splitting and rechargeable metal-air batteries. Recent research has focused on improving the activity and stability of OER electrocatalysts through various strategies including structural innovation, heteroatom doping, and conductivity enhancement. Among these, defect engineering has proved particularly effective, allowing precise modulation of the materials' electronic structure at the atomic level. This review addresses defect-rich materials that exhibit superior electrochemical properties for OER applications, with a particular focus on developments from the past five years. The discussion starts with an overview of the OER catalytic mechanism and then delves into the types of defects, synthesis methods, and their impact on electrochemical performance. This review concludes with insights into the rational design and synthesis of advanced electrocatalysts, aiming to improve efficiency and extend operational longevity. The objective is to highlight approaches for creating high-performance OER electrocatalysts that outperform noble-metal based systems in both activity and stability.

RESUMO

Electrochemical water splitting, a crucial reaction for renewable energy storage, demands highly efficient and stable catalysts. Defect and interface engineering has been widely acknowledged to play a pivotal role in improving electrocatalytic performance. Herein, we demonstrate a facile strategy to construct sulfur vacancy (Sv)-engineered Co3S4/MoS2-interfaced nanosheet arrays to modulate the interface electronic structure in situ reduction with NaBH4. The abundant sulfur vacancies and well-arranged nanosheet arrays in Sv-Co3S4/MoS2 lead to pronounced electrocatalytic properties for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions (HER/OER) in an alkaline medium, with observed overpotentials of 156 and 209 mV at 10 mA cm-2, respectively. Additionally, as a bifunctional electrocatalyst, Sv-Co3S4/MoS2 requires a cell voltage of 1.67 V at 10 mA cm-2 for overall water splitting and exhibits long-term stability with activity sustained for more than 20 h. This study provides a novel approach to producing transition metal compound-interfaced electrocatalysts with rich vacancies under mild conditions, showcasing their potential for efficient water splitting applications.

RESUMO

Background: The liver is a key target organ for colorectal and gastric cancer metastasis. One of the challenges in the treatment of colorectal and gastric cancers is the management of liver metastasis. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy, adverse effects, and coping strategies of oncolytic virus injection in patients with liver metastases of gastrointestinal malignancies. Methods: We prospectively analyzed patients treated at Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from June 2021 to October 2022. 47 patients with gastrointestinal cancer liver metastasis were included in the study. The data, including clinical manifestations, imaging, tumor markers, postoperative adverse reactions, psychological intervention, dietary guidance, and adverse reaction management were evaluated. Results: Oncolytic virus injection was successful in all patients, and no drug injection-related deaths occurred. The adverse effects, such as fever, pain, bone marrow suppression, nausea, and vomiting, were mild and resolved subsequently. Based on the comprehensive intervention of nursing procedures, the postoperative adverse reactions of patients were effectively alleviated and treated. None of the 47 patients had any puncture point infections, and the pain caused by the invasive operation was relieved quickly. After 2 courses of oncolytic virus injection, postoperative liver MRI showed 5 partial remissions, 30 stable diseases, and 12 progressive diseases in target organs. Conclusion: Interventions based on nursing procedures can ensure the smooth treatment of recombinant human adenovirus type 5 in patients with liver metastases of gastrointestinal malignant tumors. This is of great importance for clinical treatment and significantly reduces patient complications and improves the patient's quality of life.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: It remains unknown whether psychological or psychosocial treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have comparable effects across the life span. This study aims at comparing the effects of psychological/psychosocial treatments for PTSD between different age groups of youth, early-middle adults and late adults. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: A systematic search will be conducted among thirteen electronic databases, including Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, ERIC, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, the Wanfang database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP Database) and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, from inception to 15 May 2022. Electronic searches will be supplemented by a comprehensive grey literature search in Conference proceedings and trial registries. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing psychological or psychosocial treatments for PTSD with control conditions in all age groups will be included. The primary outcome is the between-treatments efficacy for PTSD that refers to the outcomes of the RCTs included in the meta-analysis. Effect sizes will be calculated for all comparisons and pooled with a fixed effects model or a random effects model. Differences in the efficacy of psychological/psychosocial therapies for PTSD across the age groups will be examined by stratified analyses and meta-regression analyses. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Data used in this study will be anonymised. These data will not be used for other purposes than research. Authors who supply the data will be acknowledged. The authors declare that no conflicts of interest exist. The findings of this study will be disseminated through briefing reports, publications and presentations. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42022334305.

RESUMO

Highly active and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for water electrolysis are currently in high demand. Herein, a rationally designed three-dimensional (3D) CoFe selenide porous array (Fe-CoSe PA) is synthesized through ion exchange from zeolitic imidazolate framework-L (ZIF-L) nanoarray, followed by a facile selenization under hydrothermal conditions for OER electrocatalysis. During the OER process, the surface of Fe-CoSe PA is rapidly oxidized to CoFe oxides/hydroxides, which prevents the inner layer from being oxidized. Benefiting from the high porosity, abundant active sites, and the high conductivity of inner Fe-CoSe, Fe-CoSe PA exhibits excellent OER performance, with an overpotential of 285 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2, and a small Tafel slope of 68 mV dec-1, as well as high stability under 50 h of continuous testing. The present work could provide a facile route for fabricating 3D porous selenides for highly efficient OER catalysis.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: How to reduce the neurodevelopmental toxicity of decabromodiphenyl ether (PBDE-209) remains unclear. This study investigated neurodevelopmental toxicity of PBDE-209 and the protective effects of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). METHODS: Pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats were treated with PBDE-209 and IGF-1, and the offspring were subjected to the Morris Water Maze test. Hippocampal neurons were cultured with PBDE-209 and IGF-1 or the PI3K inhibitor or MEK inhibitor for cell viability, apoptosis, immunofluorescence, and Western blot assays. RESULTS: Prenatal PBDE-209 exposure impaired the learning and memory ability of rats by delaying the mean latency to the platform compared, whereas prenatal treatment with IGF-1 treatment improved the learning and memory ability. In vitro, treatment of primary cultured hippocampal neural stem cells (H-NSCs) with PBDE-209 reduced cell proliferation and differentiation, but induced apoptosis. In contrast, IGF-1 treatment antagonized the cytotoxic effects of PBDE-209 in H-NSCs in vitro. At the gene level, IGF-1 inhibition of PBDE-209-induced cell cytotoxicity was through the activation of the PI3K/AKT and MEK/ERK signaling pathways in vitro because the effect of IGF-1 was blocked by the AKT inhibitor LY294002 and the ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059. CONCLUSION: Prenatal PBDE-209 exposure impaired the learning and memory ability of rats, whereas IGF-1 treatment was able to inhibit the neurodevelopmental toxicity of PBDE-209 by activation of the PI3K/AKT and ERK1/2 cell pathways.

RESUMO

Hericium erinaceus is a popular culinary and medicinal mushroom in China because of its broad beneficial effects. In this study we evaluated the effects of stimulation with 7 growth regulators at 5 different concentrations on improving the production of nutritional and bioactive compounds by H. erinaceus. Results showed that among all the tested regulators, gibberellic acid (GA) increased protein content (165%), free amino acids (100%), polysaccharides (108%), and polyphenols (26%). Spraying nephthyl acetic acid increased polysaccharides and triterpenoids to 4.37 and 17.27 g/100 g, respectively. Spraying chitosan significantly increased polyphenols by 42%. The addition of triacontanol, indole acetic acid, and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid improved the production of proteins, free amino acids, polysaccharides, and polyphenols, but not to the extent that GA did. These results indicate that adding certain growth regulators can effectively improve the production of nutritional and bioactive compounds in H. erinaceus.

RESUMO

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children and adolescents. However, the underlying mechanism of osteosarcoma carcinogenesis and progression remains unknown. In the present study, we evaluated the expression profile of miRNAs in osteosarcoma tissues and the adjacent normal tissues. We found that the expression of miR-422a was down-regulated in osteosarcoma tissues and cell lines. In addition, we observed significantly elevated levels of repressive H3K9me3 and H3K27me3 and decreased active H3K4me3 on the promote region of miR-422a in osteosarcoma cells and clinical samples. Furthermore, up-regulation of miR-422a exhibited both in vitro and in vivo anti-tumor effects by inhibiting osteosarcoma cell growth and inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. We also found that miR-422a targeted BCL2L2 and KRAS and negatively regulated their protein expression. Furthermore, restoration of miR-422a and knockdown of BCL2L2 and KRAS promoted apoptosis and induce cell cycle arrest in osteosarcoma cells. Taken together, the present study demonstrates that miR-422a may serve as a tumor suppressor in osteosarcoma via inhibiting BCL2L2 and KRAS translation both in vitro and in vivo Therefore, miR-422a could be developed as a novel therapeutic target in osteosarcoma.

RESUMO

Osteosarcoma is the most common type of primary malignant bone tumor, and deregulated microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) in osteosarcoma have attracted great attention. In the present study, through miRNA microarray analysis, it was identified that miR-148a expression was significantly increased in osteosarcoma tissues. Increased miR-148a expression was significantly correlated with tumor progression and prognosis. Furthermore, increased miR-148a expression could promote osteosarcoma growth in vitro and in vivo, and the tumor-promoting effect was due to enhanced activation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase signaling pathway caused by miR-148a-mediated inhibition of phosphatase and tensin homolog expression. Together, the present results suggest a role for miR-148a in osteosarcoma development and its potential use in prognosis prediction and cancer therapy.

RESUMO

We aim to investigate the effect of miR-106a-5p on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of osteosarcoma (OS) cells by targeting high-mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2). Real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used for detecting the expressions of miR-106-5p and HMGA2 in 137 OS and adjacent normal bone tissues. Immunohistochemistry was applied for the HMGA2 protein expression detection. Luciferase reporter gene assay was conducted for verifying whether miR-106-5p targeted HMGA2. MG63 and U2SO cells were respectively divided into five groups: Blank, miR-106a-5p, scramble, HMGA2-siRNA, and miR-106a-5p+HMGA2 groups. RT-qPCR and western blot were applied for detecting the expressions of miR-106a-5p and HMGA2 in five groups. Proliferation rate, cell cycle, invasion, and migration ability of OS cells were detected using methyl thiazolyl-tetrazolium, 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (Edu) assay, flow cytometry, and Transwell. Compared with adjacent normal tissues, OS tissues presented with decreased miR-106a-5p expressions, elevated HMGA2 mRNA, and positive expressions (all p < 0.05). The sensitivity and specificity of miR-106a-5p were 97.8%, 93.43%, and HMGA2 mRNA were 97.8%, 99.27%, separately. miR-106a-5p and HMGA2 expressions were associated with tumor size, Enneking stage, distant metastasis, and lung metastasis. Expressions of HMGA2 in OS cells in miR-106a-5p and HMGA2 siRNA groups were both significantly decreased with the same downregulation level, and the proliferation rates in both groups were obviously slowed down after 48 h (both p < 0.001). Edu positive cells, S phase cells (majority of cells blocked at G0/G1 phase), migratory and invasive cells were obviously decreased (all p < 0.05). Downregulation of miR-106a-5p was found in OS tissues, and upregulation of miR-106a-5p can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion by targeting HMGA2 in OS cells.

RESUMO

Diverse functions of microRNAs have been investigated in tumorigenesis in osteosarcoma (OS), involving the regulation of proliferation, invasion, migration, apoptosis and drug resistance. MiR-367 was found to be an oncogene and increased in OS. However, the function of miR-367 in drug resistance in OS cells is still unknown. In this study, we found that miR-367 was up-regulated in OS tissues and OS cell cultures. Meanwhile, treatment with adriamycin (ADR) induced apoptosis of OS cells with upregulation of miR-367. Notably, KLF4 was demonstrated to be a direct target of miR-367 by gene reporter assay, and miR-367 significantly blocked both mRNA and protein level of KLF4. In addition, overexpression of miR-367 markedly suppressed the increase of KLF4 induced by ADR in OS cells, as well as Bax and cleaved caspase-3, which were significantly reversed by anti-miR-367 transfection. Taken together, our data demonstrates that miR-367 and KLF4 play important roles in OS treatment and ADR resistance, suggesting that miR-367 is a potential biomarker of chemotherapy resistance in OS and also probably a novel therapeutic target against OS.

RESUMO

Although many meta-analyses comparing surgical intervention with conservative treatment have been conducted for acute Achilles tendon rupture, discordant conclusions are shown. This study systematically reviewed the overlapping meta-analyses relating to surgical versus conservative intervention of acute Achilles tendon rupture to assist decision makers select among conflicting meta-analyses, and to offer intervention recommendations based on the currently best evidence.Multiple databases were comprehensively searched for meta-analyses comparing surgical with conservative treatment of acute Achilles tendon rupture. Meta-analyses only comprising randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. Two authors independently evaluated the meta-analysis quality and extracted data. The Jadad decision algorithm was applied to ascertain which meta-analysis offered the best evidence.A total of 9 meta-analyses were included. Only RCTs were determined as Level-II evidence. The scores of Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) ranged from 5 to 10 (median 7). A high-quality meta-analysis with more RCTs was selected according to the Jadad decision algorithm. This study found that when functional rehabilitation was used, conservative intervention was equal to surgical treatment regarding the incidence of rerupture, range of motion, calf circumference, and functional outcomes, while reducing the incidence of other complications. Where functional rehabilitation was not performed, conservative intervention could significantly increase rerupture rate.Conservative intervention may be preferred for acute Achilles tendon rupture at centers offering functional rehabilitation, because it shows a similar rerupture rate with a lower risk of other complications when compared with surgical treatment. However, surgical treatment should be considered at centers without functional rehabilitation as this can reduce the incidence of rerupture.

RESUMO

A novel kind of shear thickening fluid (STF) was developed via dispersing poly(styrene-acrylic acid) (PS-AA) nanospheres into ethylene glycol (EG). By varying the structure characteristics of the PS-AA particles, STFs with different rheological properties can be obtained. Firstly, the influence of the styrene/acrylic acid ratio on the PS-AA nanospheres was investigated. It was found that the higher ratio often led to the better shear thickening (ST) effects and under the optimum condition the maximum viscosity of the STF could reach to 152Pa s, while the ST effects decreased under further increasing the monomer ratio. Then, the divinyl benzene (DVB) was introduced to increase the cross-link density of the PS-AA. In comparison with the non-cross-link PS-AA nanospheres, the poly(styrene-acrylic acid-divinyl benzene) (PS-AA-DVB) based STFs exhibited much higher ST effects and the maximum viscosity was up to 385Pas when the DVB was only increased to 0.3%. In combination of the rheological properties and the structure characterization, a possible mechanism for the ST behavior was proposed and the influence of the particles' characteristics on the mechanical performance of the PS-AA based STF was carefully analyzed.
