RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The morphology of the arteries of the external ear on the affected side of congenital microtia differs from normal. The present study aimed to use computed tomography angiography (CTA) to describe the anatomic variations of arteries in microtia and provide theoretical guidance for the first stage of autologous auricular reconstruction by the 2-stage method. METHODS: Ten patients with unilateral microtia from May 2021 to August 2021 were included. Computed tomography angiography and 3-dimensional reconstruction were used to analyze the supply and branches of the main arteries of the auricle. The number of the superficial temporal artery (STA) and posterior auricular artery (PAA) branches to the auricle, vessel diameter, and the presence or absence of the STA and PAA branches were documented. The skin flap and incision were designed combined with the anatomic of auricular arteries. RESULTS: The blood supply of the auricle mainly came from the STA and PAA. The STA's preauricular branch and PAA's posterior auricular branch were absent to varying degrees, and the middle branch was more prominent. The average diameter of the STA on the healthy auricle was 3.07±0.96 mm, and the average diameter of the PAA was 1.72±0.50 mm. The average diameter of the STA on the microtia auricle was 2.65±0.42 mm, and the average diameter of the PAA was 1.53±0.67 mm. There was a statistically significant difference in the diameter of STA between the healthy auricle and the microtia auricle (P=0.006). However, there was no significant difference in the diameter of the PAA between the healthy auricle and the microtia auricle (P=0.112). The skin flap and incision were designed and combined with the preoperative CTA images, and no flap necrosis was observed in all patients. CONCLUSION: The vascular distribution of arteries in microtia patients was clearly and accurately assessed by CTA. In our experience, the data and detailed imaging were useful in designing skin flaps and incisions during the first stage of autologous auricular reconstruction by the 2-stage method.

RESUMO

The endemic outbreak of SADS-CoV has resulted in economic losses and potentially threatened the safety of China's pig industry. The molecular epidemiology of SADS-CoV in pig herds has been investigated in many provinces in China. However, there are no data over a long-time span, and there is a lack of extensive serological surveys to assess the prevalence of SADS-CoV in Chinese swine herds since the discovery of SADS-CoV. In this study, an indirect anti-SADS-CoV IgG enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based on the SADS-CoV S1 protein was established to investigate the seroprevalence of SADS-CoV in Chinese swine herds. Cross-reactivity assays, indirect immunofluorescence, and western blotting assays showed that the developed ELISA had excellent SADS-CoV specificity. In total, 12,978 pig serum samples from 29 provinces/municipalities/autonomous regions in China were tested from 2022 to 2023. The results showed that the general seroprevalence of SADS-CoV in China was 59.97%, with seroprevalence ranging from 16.7% to 77.12% in different provinces and from 42.61% to 68.45% in different months. SADS-CoV is widely prevalent in China, and its seroprevalence was higher in Northeast China, North China, and Central China than in other regions. Among the four seasons, the prevalence of SADS-CoV was the highest in spring and the lowest in autumn. The results of this study provide the general seroprevalence profile of SADS-CoV in China, facilitating the understanding of the prevalence of SADS-CoV in pigs. More importantly, this study is beneficial in formulating preventive and control measures for SADS-CoV and may provide directions for vaccine development.

RESUMO

Histone acetyltransferase CREB-binding protein (CBP) and its homologous protein p300 are key transcriptional activators that can activate oncogene transcription, which present promising targets for cancer therapy. Here, we designed and synthesized a series of p300/CBP targeted low molecular weight PROTACs by assembling the covalent ligand of RNF126 E3 ubiquitin ligase and the bromodomain ligand of the p300/CBP. The optimal molecule A8 could effectively degrade p300 and CBP through the ubiquitin-proteasome system in time- and concentration-dependent manners, with half-maximal degradation (DC50) concentrations of 208.35/454.35 nM and 82.24/79.45 nM for p300/CBP in MV4-11 and Molm13 cell lines after 72 h of treatment. And the degradation of p300/CBP by A8 is dependent on the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway and its simultaneous interactions with the target proteins and RNF126. A8 exhibits good antiproliferative activity in a series of p300/CBP-dependent cancer cells. It could transcriptionally inhibit the expression of c-Myc, induce cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase and apoptosis in MV4-11 cells. This study thus provided us a new chemotype for the development of drug-like PROTACs targeting p300/CBP, which is expected to be applied in cancer therapy.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Primary pancreatic signet ring cell carcinoma (PSRCC), an extremely rare histologic variant of pancreatic cancer, has a poor prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of chemotherapy in PSRCC. METHODS: Patients with PSRCC between 2000 and 2019 were identified using the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. The main outcomes in this study were cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). The baseline characteristics of patients were compared using Pearson's Chi-square test. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to generate the survival curves. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), univariate and multivariate Cox regression models, and Random Survival Forest model were used to analyze the prognostic variables for OS and CSS. The variance inflation factors (VIFs) were used to analyze whether there was an overfitting problem. RESULTS: A total of 588 patients were identified. Chemotherapy was an independent prognostic factor for OS and CSS, and significantly associated with OS (HR = 0.33, 95% CI = 0.27-0.40, P <0.001) and CSS (HR = 0.32, 95% CI = 0.26-0.39, P <0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Chemotherapy showed beneficial effects on OS and CSS in patients with PSRCC and should be recommended in clinical practice.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: An association between maternal thyroid dysfunction throughout pregnancy and subsequent risk of neurodevelopmental abnormalities in offspring has been demonstrated. However, the potential effects of maternal thyroid autoimmunity on neurodevelopment in the absence of maternal hypothyroidism remain unclear. Therefore, in this study, we explored the association between maternal thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) positivity and cognitive development in preschool children. METHODS: A total of 1849 mother-child pairs were recruited from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort Study. During the follow-up period, an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay was used to retrospectively measure serum TPOAb levels in pregnant women. The cognitive development of preschool children was evaluated by using the Chinese version of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Fourth Edition. A growth mixture model was used to fit the trajectory of TPOAb. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression models were used to explore the associations between the developmental trajectory of TPOAb-positivity at different gestational periods and the cognitive development of preschool children by sex. RESULTS: A total of 1849 mother-child pairs (mean [SD] age: 26.7 [3.6] years) were enrolled in the final study. Maternal TPOAb positivity in the first trimester was associated with a risk of below-average processing speed index in girls (OR: 2.07; 95% CI 1.06-4.01) and below-average full-scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ) in boys (OR: 2.36; 95% CI: 1.10-5.05). Maternal TPOAb positivity in the third trimester was associated with below-average working memory (WMI) (OR: 2.51; 95% CI: 1.02-6.20) in girls. In girls, the WMI (ß = -3.17, 95% CI: -5.82--0.52), fluid reasoning index (FRI) (ß = -4.49, 95% CI: -7.18--1.80), and FSIQ score (ß = -2.43, 95% CI: -4.77--0.08) decreased, whereas in mothers, the level of lgTPOAb increased during pregnancy. CONCLUSIONS: Positive maternal thyroid peroxidase antibody levels during pregnancy may be associated with poorer cognitive development in preschool children. These findings require independent confirmation in other populations.

RESUMO

Multiple Myeloma is an incurable plasma cell malignancy with a poor survival rate that is usually treated with immunomodulatory drugs (iMiDs) and proteosome inhibitors (PIs). The malignant plasma cells quickly become resistant to these agents causing relapse and uncontrolled growth of resistant clones. From whole genome sequencing (WGS) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) studies, different high-risk translocation, copy number, mutational, and transcriptional markers can be identified. One of these markers, PHF19, epigenetically regulates cell cycle and other processes and is already studied using RNA-seq. In this study, we generate a large (325,025 cells and 49 patients) single cell multi-omic dataset and jointly quantify ATAC- and RNA-seq for each cell and matched genomic profiles for each patient. We identify an association between one plasma cell subtype with myeloma progression that we call relapsed/refractory plasma cells (RRPCs). These cells are associated with chromosome 1q alterations, TP53 mutations, and higher expression of PHF19. We also identify downstream regulation of cell cycle inhibitors in these cells, possible regulation by the transcription factor (TF) PBX1 on chromosome 1q, and determine that PHF19 may be acting primarily through this subset of cells.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Selective tibial neurotomy (STN) is a surgical procedure for treating spastic equinovarus foot. Hyperselective neurectomy (HSN) of tibial nerve is a modified STN procedure, which was rarely discussed. This study aimed to describe the branching patterns of the tibial nerve and propose an optimal surgical incision of HSN for treatment of spastic equinovarus foot. METHODS: Sixteen lower limbs were dissected to determine the various branching patterns of the tibial nerve and categorized according to these branching patterns. The mean distances from the nerve entry points to the tip of femur's medial epicondyle were measured, as well as their percentage to the overall length of the leg. The surgical incision was designed according to the range of these nerve entry points. RESULTS: The tibial nerve sent out proximal and distal motor branches based on their position relative to the soleus muscle's tendinous arch. For proximal motor branches, the branches innervating the medial gastrocnemius, lateral gastrocnemius and proximal soleus were categorized into types I (9/16), II (5/16) and III (2/16). Measurements from the medial epicondyle to the nerve entry points into the medial gastrocnemius, lateral gastrocnemius and proximal soleus ranged from 14 to 33 mm (4-9% of leg length), 22-45 mm (6-12%) and 35-81 mm (10-22%), respectively. Distal motor branches including the distal soleus, posterior tibialis, flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis longus, were classified as types A (8/14), B (4/14) and C (2/14), with the distances from their respective terminal points to the medial epicondyle were 67-137 mm (19-39%), 74-125 mm (20-35%), 116-243 mm (33-69%) and 125-272 mm (35-77%). CONCLUSIONS: The motor branches of tibial nerve were classified into two groups and each subdivided into three types. Detailed location parameters may serve as an anatomical basis for designing incision of HSN.

RESUMO

The axle box of high-speed train adopts double row tapered roller bearings as transmission parts, and the reliability of bearings directly affects the safety of train operation. Tapered roller bearings can withstand axial and radial loads, their service life being closely related to the distribution of contact stress. The test object is the axle box bearing of high-speed train. According to bearing's structural characteristics, based on the digital speckle correlation method (DSCM) and machine vision, the contact stress distribution detection devices for rollers and complete sets of bearings are developed respectively and an effective detection method is proposed. The contact stress data of the bearing which has reached the service life and the new bearing under the condition of no lubrication and grease lubrication are collected and normalized. Through the geometric relationship, based on the measured data of the selected detection points, the normal and tangential contact stress distribution of the roller and raceway under different contact conditions is obtained by data fitting. The test can be used as an evaluation basis for the effectiveness of bearing modification and provide reference for bearing design.

RESUMO

In this study, we used data-independent acquisition-mass spectrometry (DIA-MS) to analyze the serum proteome in psoriasis vulgaris (PsO). The serum proteomes of seven healthy controls and eight patients with PsO were analyzed using DIA-MS. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis was used to identify differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) that were closely related to PsO. Hub proteins of PsO were also identified. The Proteomics Drug Atlas 2023 was used to predict candidate hub protein drugs. To confirm the expression of the candidate factor, protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor S (PTPRS), in psoriatic lesions and the psoriatic keratinocyte model, immunohistochemical staining, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and western blotting were performed. A total of 129 DEPs were found to be closely related to PsO. The hub proteins for PsO were PVRL1, FGFR1, PTPRS, CDH2, CDH1, MCAM, and THY1. Five candidate hub protein drugs were identified: encorafenib, leupeptin, fedratinib, UNC 0631, and SCH 530348. PTPRS was identified as a common pharmacological target for these five drugs. PTPRS knockdown in keratinocytes promoted the proliferation and expression of IL-1α, IL-1ß, IL-23A, TNF-α, MMP9, CXCL8, and S100A9. PTPRS expression was decreased in PsO, and PTPRS negatively regulated PsO. PTPRS may be involved in PsO pathogenesis through the inhibition of keratinocyte proliferation and inflammatory responses and is a potential treatment target for PsO.

RESUMO

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a serious ocular condition that requires effective monitoring and treatment by ophthalmologists. However, constructing a reliable DR grading model remains a challenging and costly task, heavily reliant on high-quality training sets and adequate hardware resources. In this paper, we investigate the knowledge transferability of large-scale pre-trained models (LPMs) to fundus images based on prompt learning to construct a DR grading model efficiently. Unlike full-tuning which fine-tunes all parameters of LPMs, prompt learning only involves a minimal number of additional learnable parameters while achieving a competitive effect as full-tuning. Inspired by visual prompt tuning, we propose Semantic-oriented Visual Prompt Learning (SVPL) to enhance the semantic perception ability for better extracting task-specific knowledge from LPMs, without any additional annotations. Specifically, SVPL assigns a group of learnable prompts for each DR level to fit the complex pathological manifestations and then aligns each prompt group to task-specific semantic space via a contrastive group alignment (CGA) module. We also propose a plug-and-play adapter module, Hierarchical Semantic Delivery (HSD), which allows the semantic transition of prompt groups from shallow to deep layers to facilitate efficient knowledge mining and model convergence. Our extensive experiments on three public DR grading datasets demonstrate that SVPL achieves superior results compared to other transfer tuning and DR grading methods. Further analysis suggests that the generalized knowledge from LPMs is advantageous for constructing the DR grading model on fundus images.

RESUMO

Accurate retinal layer segmentation on optical coherence tomography (OCT) images is hampered by the challenges of collecting OCT images with diverse pathological characterization and balanced distribution. Current generative models can produce high-realistic images and corresponding labels without quantitative limitations by fitting distributions of real collected data. Nevertheless, the diversity of their generated data is still limited due to the inherent imbalance of training data. To address these issues, we propose an image-label pair generation framework that generates diverse and balanced potential data from imbalanced real samples. Specifically, the framework first generates diverse layer masks, and then generates plausible OCT images corresponding to these layer masks using two customized diffusion probabilistic models respectively. To learn from imbalanced data and facilitate balanced generation, we introduce pathological-related conditions to guide the generation processes. To enhance the diversity of the generated image-label pairs, we propose a potential structure modeling technique that transfers the knowledge of diverse sub-structures from lowly- or non-pathological samples to highly pathological samples. We conducted extensive experiments on two public datasets for retinal layer segmentation. Firstly, our method generates OCT images with higher image quality and diversity compared to other generative methods. Furthermore, based on the extensive training with the generated OCT images, downstream retinal layer segmentation tasks demonstrate improved results. The code is publicly available at: https://github.com/nicetomeetu21/GenPSM.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We aimed to investigate the association between maternal fasting plasma glucose (FPG) trajectories during pregnancy and children's refractive errors at 6 years old. DESIGN: Based on the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort (MABC) in China, a total of 1987 mother-child pairs were included in this study. METHODS: Using the group-based trajectory model, trajectory fitting was performed on fasting blood glucose levels during the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy. Children's vision was measured at 6 years of age using the standard logarithmic visual acuity E-chart and cycloplegic refraction examination. Logistic regression models and multi-informant generalized estimating equations were used to analyze the association between maternal blood glucose level and 6-year-old children's visual acuity. RESULTS: Children born of mothers with high level FPG trajectory had a higher risk of developing refractive error [OR=1.46 (95% CI 1.08 1.97)], hypermetropia [OR=1.64 (95% CI 1.09, 2.46)] and astigmatism [OR=1.60 (95% CI 1.06, 2.41)] at age six compared to those with low level trajectory. Maternal blood glucose level in the first [ß=-0.012 (95% CI -0.024, -0.001)] and the second [ß=-0.016 (95% CI -0.025, -0.006)] trimesters was associated with 6 year children's distance vision value. CONCLUSIONS: High level of fasting plasma glucose trajectories during pregnancy has been observed to be associated with 6-year-old children's refractive error, hypermetropia and astigmatism. The first and the second trimesters may be critical periods for the effects of maternal blood glucose on children's vision. The long-term effect of maternal glucose metabolism on children's visual development deserves further study.

RESUMO

Ultrasensitive spectroscopy is an essential component in mid-infrared (MIR) technology. However, the drawbacks of MIR detectors pose challenges to robust MIR spectroscopy at the single-photon level. We propose an MIR single-photon frequency upconversion spectroscopy nonlocally mapping the MIR information to the time domain. Broadband MIR photons from spontaneous parametric downconversion are frequency-upconverted to the near-infrared band with quantum correlation preservation. Via the group delay of fiber, the MIR spectral information within a 1.18-micrometer bandwidth of 2.76 to 3.94 micrometers is then successfully projected to arrival times of correlated photon pairs. Under the conditions of 6.4 × 106 photons per second illumination, the transmission spectra of polymers with single-photon sensitivity are demonstrated using single-pixel detectors. The developed approach circumvents scanning and frequency selection instability, which stands out for its inherent compatibility for evolving environments and scalability for various wavelengths. Because of its high sensitivity and robustness, characterization of biochemical samples and weak measurement of quantum systems are possible to foresee.

RESUMO

Flatband localization endowed with robustness holds great promise for disorder-immune light transport, particularly in the advancement of optical communication and signal processing. However, effectively harnessing these principles for practical applications in nanophotonic devices remains a significant challenge. Herein, we delve into the investigation of on-chip photonic localization in AB cages composed of indirectly coupled microring lattices. By strategically vertically shifting the auxiliary rings, we successfully introduce a magnetic flux of π into the microring lattice, thereby facilitating versatile control over the localization and delocalization of light. Remarkably, the compact edge modes of this structure exhibit intriguing topological properties, rendering them strongly robust against disorders, regardless of the size of the system. Our findings open up new avenues for exploring the interaction between flatbands and topological photonics on integrated platforms.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the usual vitamin intake and the prevalence of inadequate intakes among Chinese adults in 2015, and to provide a scientific basis for developing nutrition intervention strategies and measures for target populations. METHODS: Data was drawn from the Chinese Nutrition and Health Surveillance 2015-2017, a nationally representative cross-sectional study. The multistage stratified whole-group random sampling method was used to draw participants from 298 surveillance sites in 31 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities). Participants with no available information or abnormal energy intake were excluded, and finally, a total of 72 231 participants aged 18 years and older were included in the current study. The dietary data of the participants were collected by the 24-hour dietary recall method combined with the condiment weighing method for three consecutive days. The National Cancer Institute method was used to estimate the distribution of the usual intake of vitamin B_1(thiamine), vitamin B_2(riboflavin), niacin, vitamin C(ascorbic acid), and vitamin E(tocopherol), and the prevalence of inadequate intake was evaluated based on estimated average requirement or adequate intake from the Chinese Dietary Reference Intakes 2023. RESULTS: The usual intake of vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B_1, vitamin B_2 and niacin were 27.93 mg/d, 77.67 mg/d, 0.78 mg/d, 0.62 mg/d and 13.15 mg/d, respectively. The prevalence of inadequate intake was, in descending order, vitamin B_2(95.98%), vitamin B_1(86.73%), vitamin C(63.70%), niacin(39.81%), and vitamin E(21.17%). The prevalence of inadequate vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin B_1 and niacin intake among females was higher than among males(P<0.01). Overall, the prevalence of inadequate vitamin intake increased with age. Rural residents had a higher prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamin C, vitamin B_2 and niacin than urban residents(P<0.01). Except for vitamin E, the prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamins decreased with increasing education levels. The prevalence of inadequate intake of these five vitamins was higher among participants with lower income levels than those with middle or high income(P<0.01). Participants with normal weight had a higher prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamin E than those with overweight or obesity and had a higher prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamin C than those with obesity. However, participants with normal weight had a higher prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamin E than those with overweight or obesity, with the differences being statistically significant(P<0.01). Except for vitamin E, the prevalence of inadequate intake of vitamins decreased with increasing physical activity intensity. CONCLUSION: In 2015, the usual intake of dietary vitamins of Chinese adults was low. There are differences in usual intakes of vitamins and prevalence of inadequate vitamin intake for adults aged 18 years and above in males and females, different age groups, urban and rural areas, education levels, household income levels, body mass index and physical activity intensity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between habitual tea consumption and 10-year cardiovascular disease risk among middle-aged and elderly Chinese. METHODS: China Nutrition and Health Surveillance 2015 applied a stratified, multistage, and random sampling method. The current study selected middle-aged and elderly participants aged 45 and older, and they were investigated by basic information survey, dietary survey based on the food frequency questionnaire, physical measurements including height, weight, and blood pressure, and a laboratory examination with fasting blood samples. Habitual tea consumption was defined by asking about the number of cups of tea usually consumed per day in the past 12 months, and the risk of cardiovascular disease incidence was calculated using the Framingham risk score over a 10-year period. The association between tea consumption and 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease in this population was analyzed using multiple logistic regression, and further analyzed using gender as a stratification factor. RESULTS: A total of 42 704 Chinese middle-aged and elderly were included in this study, with an average age of(59.4±9.4) years, 20 104 males and 22 600 females, 17 194 in urban areas and 25 510 in rural areas. For tea drinking, there were 12 519(29.32%) tea drinkers in the included sample, of which 4153(9.73%) consumed 1-2 cups/d, 3336(7.81%) 3-4 cups/d, and 5030(11.78%) ≥5 cups/d. For 10-year cardiovascular risk, 28 267 participants(66.19%) were estimated to be low risk, while 14 437(33.81%) were in the high risk. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, place of residence, education, income, marital status, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, participation in medical examination within one year, DASH dietary score, energy intake and chronic disease status, the result showed a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease over a 10-year period among those who consumed 3-4 cups/d compared with those who did not consume tea(OR=0.820, 95%CI 0.719-0.934, P_(trend)=0.03). When stratified by gender, both gender showed participants who consumed 3-4 cups/d had a lower risk for cardiovascular disease than those who did not consume tea(males: OR=0.849, 95%CI 0.722-0.997; females: OR=0.697, 95%CI 0.527-0.922). And the result was more pronounced among females. CONCLUSION: Moderate habitual tea consumption could reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease among middle-aged and elderly Chinese people, and its protective effect is more pronounced among females.

RESUMO

Previous epidemiologic research has shown that phthalate exposure in pregnant women is related to adverse birth outcomes in a sex-specific manner. However, the biological mechanism of phthalate exposure that causes these birth outcomes remains poorly defined. In this research, we investigated the association between phthalate exposure and placental oxidative stress in a large population-based cohort study, aiming to initially explore the relationship between phthalate exposure and gene expression in placental oxidative stress in a sex-specific manner. Quantitative PCR was performed to measure the expression of placental inflammatory mRNAs (HO-1, HIF1α, and GRP78) in 2469 placentae. The multiple linear regression models were used to investigate the associations between mRNA and urinary phthalate monoesters. Phthalate metabolites monomethyl phthalate (MMP) and mono-n-butyl phthalate (MBP) were positively correlated with higher HIF1α expression in placentae of male fetuses (p < .05). Mono-benzyl phthalate (MBzP) increased the expression of HO-1, HIF1α, and GRP78 in placentae of male fetuses, and mono-(2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl) phthalate (MEHHP) up-regulated the expression of HIF1α and GRP78. Additionally, mono-(2-ethyl-5-oxohexyl) phthalate (MEOHP) was negatively correlated with HO-1, HIF1α, and GRP78 in placentae of female fetuses. Maternal phthalate exposure was associated with oxidative stress variations in placental tissues. The associations were closer in the placentas of male fetuses than in that of female ones. The placenta oxidative stress is worth further investigation as a potential mediator of maternal exposure-induced disease risk in children.

RESUMO

Scorpion fluorescence under ultraviolet light is a well-known phenomenon, but its features under excitation in the UVA, UVB and UVC bands have not been characterized. Systematic fluorescence characterization revealed indistinguishable fluorescence spectra with a peak wavelength of 475 nm for whole exuviae from second-, third- and fifth-instar scorpions under different ultraviolet light ranges. In-depth investigations of the chelae, mesosoma, metasoma and telson of adult scorpions further indicated heterogeneity in the typical fluorescence spectrum within the visible light range and in the newly reported fluorescence spectrum with a peak wavelength of 320 nm within the ultraviolet light range, which both showed excitation wavelength-independent features. Dynamic fluorescence changes during the molting process of third-instar scorpions revealed the fluorescence heterogeneity-dependent recovery speed of scorpion exoskeletons. The typical fluorescence spectra of the molted chelae and telson rapidly recovered approximately 6 h after ecdysis under UVA light and approximately 36 h after ecdysis under UVB and UVC light. However, it took approximately 12 h and 24 h to obtain the typical fluorescence spectra of the molted metasoma and mesosoma, respectively, under UVA irradiation and 72 h to obtain the typical fluorescence spectra under UVB and UVC irradiation. The fluorescence heterogeneity-dependent fluorescence recovery of the scorpion exoskeleton was further confirmed by tissue section analysis of different segments from molting third-instar scorpions. These findings reveal novel scorpion fluorescence features and provide potential clues on the biological function of scorpion fluorescence.

RESUMO

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. It is associated with many autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease and thyroid diseases. Graves' disease (GD) is a common organ-specific autoimmune disease characterized by diffuse goitre and thyrotoxicosis. Management of psoriasis patients with GD is challenging. This current report presents the case of a 34-year-old female patient with refractory psoriasis with GD who was hospitalized for drug eruption and then experienced new-onset erythema and scaling following treatment with adalimumab and secukinumab. Despite the sequential move to phototherapy, tofacitinib and ustekinumab, the erythema and scaling continued unabated and exacerbated. Finally, switching to guselkumab resulted in the psoriasis lesions significantly improving. These findings suggest that guselkumab might be an effective treatment option for refractory psoriasis combined with GD.

RESUMO

Single-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has been a research focus in recent years owing to its extensive potential applications. However, how to model the mechanical properties of MoS2 is an open question. In this study, we investigate the nonlinear static bending and forced vibrations of MoS2, subjected to boundary axial and thermal stresses using modified plate theory with independent in-plane and out-of-plane stiffnesses. First, two nonlinear ordinary differential equations are obtained using the Galerkin method to represent the nonlinear vibrations of the first two symmetrical modes. Second, we analyze nonlinear static bending by neglecting the inertial and damping terms of the two equations. Finally, we explore nonlinear forced vibrations using the method of multiple scales for the first- and third-order modes, and their 1:3 internal resonance. The main results are as follows: (1) The thermal stress and the axial compressive stress reduce the MoS2 stiffness significantly. (2) The bifurcation points of the load at the low-frequency primary resonance are much smaller than those at high frequency under single-mode vibrations. (3) Temperature has a more remarkable influence on the higher-order mode than the lower-order mode under the 1:3 internal resonance.
