RESUMO

The peel of Trichosanthes kirilowii Maxim, is considered one of the primary sources for Trichosanthis pericarpium in traditional Chinese medicine, exhibiting lipid-lowering properties. The impact on hyperlipidemia mice of the crude polysaccharide from the peel of T. Kirilowii (TRP) was investigated in this study. The findings revealed that TRP exhibited a significant improvement in hepatic lipid deposition. Moreover, it significantly decreased serum levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C, while concurrently increasing HDL-C. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technique revealed that TRP group exhibited an increased relative abundance of Actinobacteria, a down-regulated relative abundance of Ruminiclostridium, and an up-regulated relative abundance of Ileibacterium. Therefore, TRP might play a role in anti-hyperlipidemia through regulation of the intestinal milieu and enhancement of microbial equilibrium. Consequently, targeted fractionation of TRP resulted in the isolation of a homogeneous acidic polysaccharide termed TRP-1. The TRP-1 polysaccharide, with an average molecular weight of 1.00 × 104 Da, and was primarily composed of Rha, GlcA, GalA, Glc, Gal and Ara. TRP-1 possessed a backbone consisting of alternating connections between â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(1 â†’ 4)-α-Rhap-(1 â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(2 â†’ 6)-ß-Galp-(1 â†’ 6)-α-Galp-(2 â†’ 6)-ß-Galp-(1 â†’ units and branched chain containing â†’ 6)-α-Glcp-(1→, 2,4)-ß-Glcp-(1, and â†’ 4)-α-GlapA-(1→. Both TRP and TRP-1 exhibited significant disruption of cholesterol micelles, highlighting their potential as lipid-lowering agents that effectively inhibit cholesterol absorption pathways.

RESUMO

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of electro-acupuncture (EA) on sepsis-related intestinal injury and its relationship with macrophage polarization. Methods: A sepsis model was established using cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) to assess the effectiveness of EA. The extent of pathological injury was evaluated using Chiu's score, the expression of ZO-1 and Ocludin, and the impact on macrophage polarization was examined through flow cytometry and immunofluorescence staining. The expression of spermidine, one type of polyamine, and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) was measured using ELISA and PCR. Once the efficacy was determined, a polyamine depletion model was created, and the role of polyamines was reassessed by evaluating efficacy and observing macrophage polarization. Results: EA treatment reduced the Chiu's score and increased the expression of ZO-1 and Ocludin in the intestinal tissue of septic mice. It inhibited the secretion of IL-1ß and TNF-α, promoted the polarization of M2-type macrophages, increased the secretion of IL-10, and upregulated the expression of Arg-1, spermidine, and ODC. However, after depleting polyamines, the beneficial effects of EA on alleviating intestinal tissue damage and modulating macrophage polarization disappeared. Conclusion: The mechanism underlying the alleviation of intestinal injury associated with CLP-induced sepsis by EA involves with the promotion of M2-type macrophage polarization mediated by spermidine expression.

RESUMO

The high theoretical energy density (1274 Wh kg-1) and high safety enable the all-solid-state Na-S batteries with great promise for stationary energy storage system. However, the uncontrollable solid-liquid-solid multiphase conversion and its associated sluggish polysulfides redox kinetics pose a great challenge in tunning the sulfur speciation pathway for practical Na-S electrochemistry. Herein, we propose a new design methodology for matrix featuring separated bi-catalytic sites that control the multi-step polysulfide transformation in tandem and direct quasi-solid reversible sulfur conversion during battery cycling. It is revealed that the N, P heteroatom hotspots are more favorable for catalyzing the long-chain polysulfides reduction, while PtNi nanocrystals manipulate the direct and full Na2S4 to Na2S low-kinetic conversion during discharging. The electrodeposited Na2S on strongly coupled PtNi and N, P-codoped carbon host is extremely electroreactive and can be readily recovered back to S8 without passivation of active species during battery recharging, which delivers a true tandem electrocatalytic quasi-solid sulfur conversion mechanism. Accordingly, stable cycling of the all-solid-state soft-package Na-S pouch cells with an attractive specific capacity of 876 mAh gS -1 and a high energy of 608 Wh kgcathode -1 (172 Wh kg-1, based on the total mass of cathode and anode) at 60 °C are demonstrated.

RESUMO

The broader implementation of current all-solid-state Na-S batteries is still plagued by high operation temperature and inefficient sulfur utilization. And the uncontrollable sulfur speciation pathway along with the sluggish polysulfide redox kinetics further compromise the theoretical potentials of Na-S chemistry. Herein, we report a confined bidirectional tandem electrocatalysis effect to tune polysulfide electrochemistry in a novel low-temperature (80 °C) all-solid-state Na-S battery that utilizes Na3 Zr2 Si2 PO12 ceramic membrane as a platform. The bifunctional hollow sulfur matrix consisting binary atomically dispersed MnN4 and CoN4 hotspots was fabricated using a sacrificial template process. Upon discharge, CoN4 sites activate sulfur species and catalyze long-chain to short-chain polysulfides reduction, while MnN4 centers substantially accelerate the low-kinetic Na2 S4 to Na2 S directly conversion, manipulating the uniform deposition of electroactive Na2 S and avoiding the formation of irreversible products (e.g., Na2 S2 ). The intrinsic synergy of two catalytic centers benefits the Na2 S decomposition and minimizes its activation barrier during battery recharging and then efficiently mitigate the cathodic passivation. As a result, the stable cycling of all-solid-state Na-S cell delivers an attractive reversible capacity of 1060 mAh g-1 with a high CE of 98.5 % and a high energy of 1008 Wh kgcathode -1 , comparable to the liquid electrolyte cells.

RESUMO

Background: Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in children globally. In recent decades, advances have been made in understanding the mechanism, diagnosis, treatment and management for childhood asthma, but few studies have explored its knowledge structure and future interests comprehensively. Objective: This scientometric study aims to understand the research status and emerging trends of childhood asthma. Methods: CiteSpace (version 5.8.R3) was used to demonstrate national and institutional collaborations in childhood asthma, analyze research subjects and journal distribution, review research keywords and their clusters, as well as detect research bursts. Results: A total of 14,340 publications related to childhood asthma were extracted from Web of Science (core database) during January 2011 to December 2021. The results showed that academic activities of childhood asthma had increased steadily in the last decade. Most of the research was conducted by developed countries while China, as a developing country, was also actively engaged in this field. In addition to subjects of allergy and immunology, both public health aspects and ecological environmental impacts on the disease were emphasized recently in this research field. Keywords clustering analysis indicated that research on asthma management and atopy was constantly updated and became the two major research focuses recently, as a significant shift in research hotspots from etiology and diagnosis to atopic march and asthma management was identified. Subgroup analysis for childhood asthma management and atopy suggested that caregiver- or physician-based education and interventions were emerging directions for asthma management, and that asthma should be carefully studied in the context of atopy, together with other allergic diseases. Conclusions: This study presented a comprehensive and systematic overview of the research status of childhood asthma, provided clues to future research directions, and highlighted two significant research trends of asthma management and atopy in this field.

RESUMO

Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide and cardiac fibrosis is a common pathological process for cardiac remodeling in cardiovascular diseases. Cardiac fibrosis not only accelerates the deterioration progress of diseases but also becomes a pivotal contributor for futile treatment in clinical cardiovascular trials. Although cardiac fibrosis is common and prevalent, effective medicines to provide sufficient clinical intervention for cardiac fibrosis are still unavailable. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is the natural essence experienced boiling, fry, and other processing methods, including active ingredients, extracts, and herbal formulas, which have been applied to treat human diseases for a long history. Recently, research has increasingly focused on the great potential of TCM for the prevention and treatment of cardiac fibrosis. Here, we aim to clarify the identified pro-fibrotic mechanisms and intensively summarize the application of TCM in improving cardiac fibrosis by working on these mechanisms. Through comprehensively analyzing, TCM mainly regulates the following pathways during ameliorating cardiac fibrosis: attenuation of inflammation and oxidative stress, inhibition of cardiac fibroblasts activation, reduction of extracellular matrix accumulation, modulation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, modulation of autophagy, regulation of metabolic-dependent mechanisms, and targeting microRNAs. We also discussed the deficiencies and the development direction of anti-fibrotic therapies on cardiac fibrosis. The data reviewed here demonstrates that TCM shows a robust effect on alleviating cardiac fibrosis, which provides us a rich source of new drugs or drug candidates. Besides, we also hope this review may give some enlightenment for treating cardiac fibrosis in clinical practice.

RESUMO

Current great progress on potassium-chalcogen (S, Se, Te) batteries within much potential to become promising energy storage systems opens a new avenue for the rapid development of potassium batteries as a complementary option to lithium ion batteries. The discussion mainly concentrates on recent research advances of potassium-chalcogen (S, Se, Te) batteries and their corresponding cathode materials in this review. Initially, the development of cathode materials for four types of batteries is introduced, including: potassium-sulfur (K-S), potassium-selenium (K-Se), potassium-selenium sulfide (K-Sex Sy ), and potassium-tellurium (K-Te) batteries. Next, critical challenges for chalcogen-based electrodes in devices operation are summarized. In addition, some pragmatic strategies are proposed as well to relieve the low electronic conductivity, large volumetric expansion, shuttle effect, and potassium dendrite growth. At last, the perspectives on designing advanced cathode materials for potassium-chalcogen batteries are provided with the goal of developing high-performance potassium storage devices.

RESUMO

Background: Severe pneumonia (SP) has a high mortality rate and is responsible for significant healthcare costs. Chinese herbal injections (CHIs) have been widely used in China as a novel and promising treatment option for SP. Therefore, this study assessed and ranked the effectiveness of CHIs to provide more sights for the selection of SP treatment. Method: Seven databases were searched from their inception up to April 1, 2021. The methodological quality of included study was evaluated by the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. Then, a Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) was performed by OpenBUGS 3.2.3 and STATA 14.0 software. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) probability values were applied to rank the examined treatments. A clustering analysis was utilized to compare the effect of CHIs between two different outcomes. Results: A total of 64 eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 5,904 participants were identified for this analysis. Six CHIs including Xuebijing injection (XBJ), Tanreqing injection (TRQ), Reduning injection (RDN), Xiyanping injection (XYP), Shenfu injection (SF), and Shenmai injection (SM) were included. The results of the NMA showed that XBJ [odds ratio (OR) = 0.24, 95% credible interval (CI): 0.19, 0.30], TRQ (OR = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.12, 0.37), RDN (OR = 0.29, 95% CI: 0.04, 0.94), and SM (OR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.08, 0.63) combined with conventional Western medicine (WM) improved the clinical effective rate more significantly than WM alone. Based on SUCRA values, TRQ + WM (SUCRA: 66.4%) ranked the highest in improving the clinical effective rate, second in four different outcomes, and third in only one. According to the cluster analysis, TRQ + WM exerted a positive effect on improving the efficacy of SP. As for safety, less than 30% (18 RCTs) of the included studies reported adverse drug reactions/adverse drug events (ADRs/ADEs), including 14 RCTs of XBJ, 3 RCTs of TRQ, and 1 RCT of RDN. Conclusion: In conclusion, the study found that the CHIs as co-adjuvant therapy could be beneficial for patients with SP. TRQ + WM showed an outstanding improvement in patients with SP considering both the clinical effective rate and other outcomes. RESUMO

In this work, porous carbon matrix derived from metal-organic frameworks is synthesized by a facile carbonation process for confining element selenium. The Se/nitrogen-doped porous carbon composite is applied as the cathode for rechargeable K-Se batteries for the first time. The abundant and hierarchical porous structure is advantageous in overcoming the volume expansion problem caused by polyselenides during discharge-charge process. The in-situ nitrogen-doped porous carbon enhances electronic conductivity of the cathode composite material. The electrochemical result shows that the as-obtained Se/nitrogen-doped porous carbon composite with Se content of 53% delivers good rate capacity with coulombic efficiency of nearly ∼90% and a reversible cycling capacity of 327 mA h g-1 at 0.2 C, maintaining about 130 mA h g-1 even after 100 cycles.

RESUMO

AIM: To explore the role of radio-frequency ablation (RFA) as a treatment for hilar cholangiocarcinoma. METHODS: Eleven patients with obstructive cholestasis underwent Computed Tomography (CT) examination, occupying lesions were observed in the hepatic hilar region in each patient. All lesions were confirmed as cholangioadenocarcinoma by biopsy and were classified as type III or IV by percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography. Patients were treated with multiple electrodes RFA combined with other adjuvant therapy. The survival rate, change of CT attenuation coefficient of the tumor and tumor size were studied in these patients after RFA. RESULTS: In a follow-up CT scan one month after RFA, a size reduction of about 30% was observed in six masses, and two masses were reduced by about 20% in size, three of the eleven masses remained unchanged. In a follow-up CT scan 6 mo after RFA, all the masses were reduced in size (overall 35%), in which the most significant size reduction was 60%. The survival follow-up among these eleven cases was 18 mo in average. Ongoing follow-up showed that the longest survival case was 30 mo and the shortest case was 10 mo. CONCLUSION: RFA is a microinvasive and effective treatment for hilar cholangiocarcinoma.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To calculate the volume embolization ratio of densely packing experimental aneurysms by three dimensional digital subtraction angiography (3D-DSA). METHODS: Six experimental crotch aneurysms were created microsurgically in the common carotid artery of white rabbits. Two weeks later, each aneurysm's volume was measured with 3D-DSA surface shaded display(SSD) and the correction of lacteprene balloon calibration method. In the same time, the aneurysms were densely packed with electric detachable coils. The volume of coils that were used in each aneurysm was calculated separately. The ratio of coils volume and aneurysm volume was the volume embolization ratio (VER). RESULTS: The aneurysms volumes measured by 3D DSA SSD ranged from 0.037 to 0.087 ml. The VER ranged from 23.5% to 32.5% (average 27.4%). CONCLUSION: The minimum VER of densely packing experimental crotch aneurysms with electronic detachable coils was 23.5%.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish an expert system that automatically generates optimal GDC selection program for the embolization of intracranial aneurysm. METHODS: Twenty highly cost-effective cases of intracranial aneurysm embolized with GDC dense packing were collected. Each of them contains information including aneurysm's volume measured by three-dimension digital subtraction angiography (3D DSA), aneurysm's location, maximum transverse diameter, maximum length diameter, and GDC selection program. An expert system made up of a case base, a mathematical model simulating experts' experience (established with the help of data mining techniques combining multi-layer perceptron network with polyhedrons in high dimensional space), and data envelopment analysis (DEA), was implemented. RESULTS: When the user inputted four required parameters (volume, location, maximum transverse diameter, and maximum length diameter) into the expert system and clicked the "program design" button, candidate GDC selection program(s) would be presented in the result box. CONCLUSION: Case base, data mining techniques, and DEA can be used to establish the expert system that automatically generates optimal GDC selection program for the embolization of intracranial aneurysm. Its clinical value needs to be further evaluated.
