RESUMO

Two-dimensional (2D) lateral heterojunction arrays, characterized by well-defined electronic interfaces, hold significant promise for advancing next-generation electronic devices. Despite this potential, the efficient synthesis of high-density lateral heterojunctions with tunable interfacial band alignment remains a challenging. Here, a novel strategy is reported for the fabrication of lateral heterojunction arrays between monolayer Si2Te2 grown on Sb2Te3 (ML-Si2Te2@Sb2Te3) and one-quintuple-layer Sb2Te3 grown on monolayer Si2Te2 (1QL-Sb2Te3@ML-Si2Te2) on a p-doped Sb2Te3 substrate. The site-specific formation of numerous periodically arranged 2D ML-Si2Te2@Sb2Te3/1QL-Sb2Te3@ML-Si2Te2 lateral heterojunctions is realized solely through three epitaxial growth steps of thick-Sb2Te3, ML-Si2Te2, and 1QL-Sb2Te3 films, sequentially. More importantly, the precisely engineering of the interfacial band alignment is realized, by manipulating the substrate's p-doping effect with lateral spatial dependency, on each ML-Si2Te2@Sb2Te3/1QL-Sb2Te3@ML-Si2Te2 junction. Atomically sharp interfaces of the junctions with continuous lattices are observed by scanning tunneling microscopy. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements directly reveal the tailored type-II band bending at the interface. This reported strategy opens avenues for advancing lateral epitaxy technology, facilitating practical applications of 2D in-plane heterojunctions.

RESUMO

2D materials emerge as a versatile platform for developing next-generation devices. The experimental realization of novel artificial 2D atomic crystals, which does not have bulk counterparts in nature, is still challenging and always requires new physical or chemical processes. Monolayer α-tellurene is predicted to be a stable 2D allotrope of tellurium (Te), which has great potential for applications in high-performance field-effect transistors. However, the synthesis of monolayer α-tellurene remains elusive because of its complex lattice configuration, in which the Te atoms are stacked in tri-layers in an octahedral fashion. Here, a self-assemble approach, using three atom-long Te chains derived from the dynamic non-equilibrium growth of an a-Si:Te alloy as building blocks, is reported for the epitaxial growth of monolayer α-tellurene on a Sb2 Te3 substrate. By combining scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy with density functional theory calculations, the surface morphology and electronic structure of monolayer α-tellurene are revealed and the underlying growth mechanism is determined. The successful synthesis of monolayer α-tellurene opens up the possibility for the application of this new single-element 2D material in advanced electronic devices.

RESUMO

The flourish of two-dimensional (2D) materials provides a versatile platform for building high-performance electronic devices in the atomic thickness regime. However, the presence of the high Schottky barrier at the interface between the metal electrode and the 2D semiconductors, which dominates the injection and transport efficiency of carriers, always limits their practical applications. Herein, we show that the Schottky barrier can be controllably lifted in the heterostructure consisting of Janus MoSSe and 2D vdW metals by different means. Based on density functional theory calculations and machine learning modelings, we studied the electrical contact between semiconducting monolayer MoSSe and various metallic 2D materials, where a crossover from Schottky to Ohmic/quasi-Ohmic contact is realized. We demonstrated that the band alignment at the interface of the investigated metal-semiconductor junctions (MSJs) deviates from the ideal Schottky-Mott limit because of the Fermi-level pinning effects induced by the interface dipoles. Besides, the effect of the thickness and applied biaxial strain of MoSSe on the electronic structure of the junctions are explored and found to be powerful tuning knobs for electrical contact engineering. It is highlighted that using the sure-independence-screening-and-sparsifying-operator machine learning method, a general descriptor WM3/exp(Dint) was developed, which enables the prediction of the Schottky barrier height for different MoSSe-based MSJ. These results provide valuable theoretical guidance for realizing ideal Ohmic contacts in electronic devices based on the Janus MoSSe semiconductors.

RESUMO

Electrocatalytic transformation of CO2 to various syngas compositions is an exceedingly attractive approach to carbon-neutral recycling. Meanwhile, the achievement of selectivity, stability, and tunability of product ratios using single-component electrocatalysts is challenging. Herein, the theoretically-assisted design of the triple-component nanocomposite electrocatalyst Cu10 Sn3 -Cu-SnOx that addresses this challenge is presented. It is shown that Cu10 Sn3 is a valuable electrocatalyst for suitable CO2 reduction to CO, SnO2 for CO2 reduction to formate at large overpotentials, and that the Cu-SnO2 interface facilitates H2 evolution. Accordingly, the interaction between the three functional components affords tunable CO/H2 ratios, from 1:2 to 2:1, of the produced syngas by controlling the applied potentials and relative contents of functional components. The syngas generation is selective (Faradaic efficiency, FE = 100%) at relatively lower cathodic potentials, whereas formate is the only liquid product detected at relatively higher cathodic potentials. The theoretically guided design approach therefore provides a new opportunity to boost the selectivity and stability of CO2 reduction to tunable syngas.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The expression of MUC5AC, a highly prevalent airway mucin, is regulated by stimulatory factors such as oxidative stress. Ganoderic acid D (GAD) activates mitochondrial deacetylase SIRT3. SIRT3 regulates mitochondrial function through deacetylation of mitochondrial proteins, thereby playing a significant role in alleviating oxidative stress-related diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the mechanisms and rationale underlying the regulation of MUC5AC expression by GAD. METHODS: Human airway epithelial cells (NCI-H292) were exposed to pyocyanin (PCN) to establish an in vitro cell model of airway mucus hypersecretion. The expression of SIRT3, MUC5AC, and NRF2 pathway proteins in cells was assessed. Cellular mitochondrial morphology and oxidative stress markers were analyzed. C57BL/6 mice were induced with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) to establish an in vivo mouse model of airway mucus hypersecretion. The expression of SIRT3 and MUC5AC in the airways was examined. In addition, the differential expression of target genes in the airway epithelial tissues of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) was analyzed using publicly available databases. RESULTS: The results revealed a significant upregulation of MUC5AC expression and a significant downregulation of SIRT3 expression in relation to airway mucus hypersecretion. GAD inhibited the overexpression of MUC5AC in PCN-induced NCI-H292 cells and PA-induced mouse airways by upregulating SIRT3. GAD activated the NRF2/GPX4 pathway and inhibited PCN-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial morphological changes in NCI-H292 cells. However, ML385 inhibited the regulatory effects of GAD on MUC5AC expression. CONCLUSION: The SIRT3 activator GAD downregulated MUC5AC expression, potentially through activation of the NRF2/GPX4 pathway. Accordingly, GAD may be a potential treatment approach for airway mucus hypersecretions.

RESUMO

Morphology instability holds the major responsibility for efficiency degradation of organic solar cells (OSCs). However, how to develop polymer donors simultaneously with high efficiency and excellent morphology stability remains challenging. Herein, we reported naphtho[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithiophene-5,6-imide (NDTI)-based new polymers PNDT1 and PNDT2. The alkyl chain engineering leads to high crystallinity, high hole mobility (>10-3 cm2 V-1 S-1), and nanofibrous film morphology, which enable PNDT2 to exhibit an efficiency of 18.13% and a remarkable FF value of 0.80. Moreover, the NDTIs have short π-π stacking and abundant short interactions, and their polymers exhibit superior morphological stability. Therefore, the PNDT2-based OSCs exhibit much better device stability than that of PNDT1, PAB-α, and benchmark polymers PM6 and D18. This work suggests the great importance of the large conjugated backbone of the monomer and alkyl chain engineering to develop high-performance and morphology-stable polymers for OSCs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Microsatellite instability (MSI) is the first pan-cancer biomarker approved to guide immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for MSI-high (MSI-H) solid tumors. In lung cancer, the MSI-H frequency is very low, and the genetic characteristics and prognosis of lung cancer with MSI-H were rarely reported. METHODS: Next-generation sequencing and immunohistochemistry were used detect MSI status, tumor mutation burden (TMB) and PD-L1 expression. RESULTS: Among 12,484 lung cancer patients screened, 66 were found with MSI-H, the proportion was as low as 0.5%. Compared with Microsatellite stability (MSS), TMB was higher in MSI-H lung cancer patients, while PD-L1 expression showed no considerable difference between MSI-H and MSS. After propensity score matching, compared with MSS, the most common companion mutations in MSI-H were TP53, BRCA2, TGFBR2, PTEN and KMT2C. In MSI-H lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation, TGFBR2 and ERBB2 had higher mutation frequency than in MSS. CONCLUSION: The current study reveals the genetic characteristics of MSI-H lung cancer, which advanced our understanding of MSI-H lung cancer.

RESUMO

Tin disulfide (SnS2 ) is a promising candidate for electrosynthesis of CO2 -to-formate while the low activity and selectivity remain a great challenge. Herein, we report the potentiostatic and pulsed potential CO2 RR performance of SnS2 nanosheets (NSs) with tunable S-vacancy and exposure of Sn-atoms or S-atoms prepared controllably by calcination of SnS2 at different temperatures under the H2 /Ar atmosphere. The catalytic activity of S-vacancy SnS2 (Vs -SnS2 ) is improved 1.8 times, but it exhibits an exclusive hydrogen evolution with about 100 % FE under all potentials investigated in the static conditions. The theoretical calculations reveal that the adsorption of *H on the Vs -SnS2 surface is energetically more favorable than the carbonaceous intermediates, resulting in active site coverage that hinders the carbon intermediates from being adsorbed. Fortunately, the main product can be switched from hydrogen to formate by applying pulsed potential electrolysis benefiting from in situ formed partially oxidized SnS2-x with the oxide phase selective to formate and the S-vacancy to hydrogen. This work highlights not only the Vs -SnS2 NSs lead to exclusively H2 formation, but also provides insights into the systematic design of highly selective CO2 reduction catalysts reconstructed by pulsed potential electrolysis.

RESUMO

Forming semiconductor heterojunctions is a promising strategy to boost the efficiency of solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting by accelerating the separation and transport of photogenerated charge carriers via an interfacial electric field. However, there is limited research considering the influence of electrolytes on the band alignment of the heterojunction under PEC conditions. In this work, we use a single crystal NiCo2O4/SrTiO3 (NCO/STO) heterojunction with atomic-precision controlled thickness as a model photoelectrode to study the band structure modulations upon getting in contact with the electrolyte and the correlation with the PEC activity. It is found that the band alignment can be tuned by the control of p-n heterojunction film thickness and regulated by the water redox potential (Eredox). When the Fermi level (EF) of the heterojunction is higher/lower than the Eredox, the band bending at the NCO/STO-electrolyte interface will increase/decrease after contacting with the electrolyte. However, when the band bending width of the NCO layer is thinner than its thickness, the electrolyte will not influence the band alignment at the NCO/STO interface. In addition, PEC characterization results show that the 1 nm NCO/STO heterojunction photoanode exhibits superior water-splitting performance, owing to the optimum band structure of the p-n heterojunction and the shorter charge transfer distance.

RESUMO

In this work, a novel, label-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor was constructed for the ultrasensitive detection of carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) by the combined use of NiFe2O4@C@CeO2/Au hexahedral microbox and luminol luminophore. The synthesis of the co-reaction accelerator (NiFe2O4@C@CeO2/Au) was related to the calcination of FeNi-based metal-organic framework (MOF), as well as the ingrowth of CeO2 nanoparticles and modification of Au nanoparticles. To be specific, the electrical conductivity will be boosted due to the Au nanoparticles, the synergetic effect generated between CeO2 and calcination FeNi-MOF could offer better activity of oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, the NiFe2O4@C@CeO2/Au hexahedral microbox as a co-reaction accelerator has excellent OER activity and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thus increasing the ECL intensity of luminol in a neutral medium without other co-reactants such as H2O2. Because of these benefits, the constructed ECL immunosensor was applied to detect CA15-3 as an example under optimum conditions, the designed ECL immunosensor exhibited high-level selectivity and sensitivity for CA15-3 biomarker within a linear response range of 0.01-100 U mL-1 and an ultralow detection limit of 0.545 mU mL-1 (S/N = 3), demonstrating its potentially valuable application in the area of clinical analysis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dysbiosis commonly occurs in pancreatic cancer, but its specific characteristics and interactions with pancreatic cancer remain obscure. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 16S rRNA sequencing method was used to analyze multisite (oral and gut) microbiota characteristics of pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, and healthy controls. Differential analysis was used to identify the pancreatic cancer-associated genera and pathways. A random forest algorithm was adopted to establish the diagnostic models for pancreatic cancer. RESULTS: The chronic pancreatitis group exhibited the lowest microbial diversity, while no significant difference was found between the pancreatic cancer group and healthy controls group. Diagnostic models based on the characteristics of the oral (area under the curve (AUC) 0.916, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.832-1) or gut (AUC 0.856; 95% CI 0.74, 0.972) microbiota effectively discriminate the pancreatic cancer samples in this study, suggesting saliva as a superior sample type in terms of detection efficiency and clinical compliance. Oral pathogenic genera (Granulicatella, Peptostreptococcus, Alloprevotella, Veillonella, etc.) and gut opportunistic genera (Prevotella, Bifidobacterium, Escherichia/Shigella, Peptostreptococcus, Actinomyces, etc.), were significantly enriched in pancreatic cancer. The 16S function prediction analysis revealed that inflammation, immune suppression, and barrier damage pathways were involved in the course of pancreatic cancer. CONCLUSION: This study comprehensively described the microbiota characteristics of pancreatic cancer and suggested potential microbial markers as non-invasive tools for pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

RESUMO

BCS theory has been widely successful at describing elemental bulk superconductors. Yet, as the length scales of such superconductors approach the atomic limit, dimensionality as well as the environment of the superconductor can lead to drastically different and unpredictable superconducting behavior. Here, we report a threefold enhancement of the superconducting critical temperature and gap size in ultrathin epitaxial Al films on Si(111), when approaching the 2D limit, based on high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements. Using spatially resolved spectroscopy, we characterize the vortex structure in the presence of a strong Zeeman field and find evidence of a paramagnetic Meissner effect originating from odd-frequency pairing contributions. These results illustrate two notable influences of reduced dimensionality on a BCS superconductor and present a platform to study BCS superconductivity in large magnetic fields.

RESUMO

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the Omicron variant occurred in Shanghai, China, but its clinical characteristics and virology have not been comprehensively described. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included adult inpatients (≥18 years) diagnosed with COVID-19 at Changhai Hospital. Laboratory and clinical data were obtained from electronic medical records to investigate the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 and the variations in the patients' laboratory indexes were examined. Results: The symptoms of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant were relatively mild. Upper respiratory tract specimens yielded higher positive detection rates than lower respiratory tract and intestinal specimens. Peak COVID-19 viral load was reached at the time of admission; quantification cycle (Cq) values increased to approximately 35 after 8.54 days. In vivo viral shedding duration correlated with age and disease severity (p<0.05). The older the patient and the more severe the disease, the longer the duration of viral shedding was. Portion parameters of blood routine, coagulative function, clinical chemistry, and inflammatory factor showed a certain correlation with the SARS-CoV-2 viral load. Conclusions: Virus replication and shedding are rapid in Omicron-positive patients; COVID-19 in these patients is characterized by acute onset, mild symptoms, and fast recovery. Older patients and those with more severe disease demonstrate prolonged virus shedding. Routine hematological indexes can reveal disease severity and help clinically evaluate the patient's condition.

RESUMO

Creating new electron-deficient unit is highly demanded to develop high-performance polymer donors for non-fullerene organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, we reported a multifluorinated unit 4,5,6,7-tetrafluoronaphtho[2,1-b : 3,4-b']dithio-phene (FNT) and its polymers PFNT-F and PFNT-Cl. The advantages of multifluorination: (1) it enables the polymers to exhibit low-lying HOMO (≈-5.5 eV) and wide band gap (≈2.0 eV); (2) the short interactions (F⋅⋅⋅H, F⋅⋅⋅F) endow the polymers with properties of high film crystallinity and efficient hole transport; (3) well miscibility with NFAs that leads to a more well-defined nanofibrous morphology and face-on orientation in the blend films. Therefore, the PFNT-F/Cl : N3 based OSCs exhibit impressive FF values of 0.80, and remarkable PCEs of 17.53 % and 18.10 %, which make them ranked the best donor materials in OSCs. This work offers new insights into the rational design of high-performance polymers by multifluorination strategy.

RESUMO

A 0.005% and 0.01% morin treatment was applied to treat mango fruits stored under ambient conditions (25 ± 1 °C) with 85-90% relative humidity, and the effects on quality indexes, enzyme activity related to antioxidation and cell wall degradation, and gene expressions involved in ripening and senescence were explored. The results indicate that a 0.01% morin application effectively delayed fruit softening and yellowing and sustained the nutritional quality. After 12 days of storage, the contents of soluble sugar and carotenoid in the treatment groups were 68.54 mg/g and 11.20 mg/100 g, respectively, lower than those in control, while the vitamin C content in the treatment groups was 0.58 mg/g, higher than that in control. Moreover, a morin application successively enhanced the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD), but reduced the activity of polygalacturonase (PG) and pectin lyase (PL). Finally, real-time PCR and correlation analysis suggested that morin downregulated the ethylene biosynthesis (ACS and, ACO) and signal transduction (ETR1, ERS1, EIN2, and ERF1) genes, which is positively associated with softening enzymes (LOX, EXP, ßGal, and EG), carotenoid synthesis enzymes (PSY and, LCYB), sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), and uncoupling protein (UCP) gene expressions. Therefore, a 0.01% morin treatment might efficiently retard mango fruit ripening and senescence to sustain external and nutritional quality through ethylene-related pathways, which indicates its preservation application.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To investigate relationships between hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), tumor necrosis factor -α (TNF-α), interleukin-17A (IL-17A), and interferon -γ (IFN-γ), with left ventricular geometry (LVG) and function in patients with primary hypertension (PHT). METHODS: A total of 396 PHT patients were assigned into four groups: Normal Geometry (NG), Concentric Remodeling (CR), Eccentric Hypertrophy (EH), and Concentric Hypertrophy (CH). The correlation between hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-17A, IFN-γ, and clinical, biochemical parameters were analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis and Logistic regression. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used to analyze the clinical values of hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-17A, and IFN-γ for abnormal LVG prediction. RESULTS: NG, CR, EH, and CH group all presented increasingly higher levels of Hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-17A, and IFN-γ, and the increase was the most prominent in the CH group. Pearson correlation analysis showed that hs-CRP, IL-17A, and IFN-γ were all positively correlated with LASct. Hs-CRP, TNF-α, and IL-17A were all negatively correlated with GLS, LASr, and LAScd. However, IFN-γ was only negatively correlated with GLS and LAScd. Logistic regression analysis showed that hs-CRP and IL-17A were independently correlated with CR; hs-CRP, TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-17A were independently correlated with EH and CH. ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of hs-CRP was 0.816. When the optimal diagnostic threshold of hs-CRP was 3.04 mg/L, the sensitivity and specificity of the abnormal LVG were 72.1% and 81.5%, respectively. CONCLUSION: In PHT patients, hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-17A, and IFN-γ were correlated with abnormal LVG and left ventricular function, suggesting that inflammatory cytokines may be involved in the process of PHT-induced abnormal left ventricular structure and function. In addition, hs-CRP can be used as a health screening index for patients at high risk of abnormal LVG.

RESUMO

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), as a novel crystalline porous adsorbent, have been attracting significant attention for their synthesis and application exploration due to the advantages of designability, stability, and functionalization. Herein, through increasing the concentration of the acid catalyst, a facile solution-refluxing synthesis method was developed for the preparation of a three-dimensional dynamic COF material, COF-300, with high yields (>90%) and high space−time yields (>28 kg m−3 day−1). This synthesis method not only permits gram-scale synthesis, but also yields products that well maintain porosity and unique guest-dependent dynamic behavior. Moreover, the catalytic activity of COF-300 as a metal-free photocatalyst was explored for the first time. Under 365 nm ultra-violet light irradiation, COF-300 can effectively catalyze the dye degradation (>99%) in wastewater with good recyclability. By adding magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles into the solution-refluxing synthesis of COF-300, Fe3O4/COF-300 nanocomposites can be obtained and used as magnetically recyclable photocatalysts, demonstrating the superiority of this facile synthesis procedure. Our study provides new insights for the preparation of COF materials and a constructive exploration for their water treatment application.

RESUMO

Visualizing latent evidence at a crime scene has gained popularity in the field of forensic science during the past few years. Thus, this study designs and develops a one-click device for the rapid visualization and extraction of latent evidence through multimodal light source integration and light-guiding technology. Our device exhibits multispectral and angle timing functions for storing the captured evidence images. Furthermore, the geometric registration, feature extraction, feature optimization, and feature integration of the evidence images are processed by a backend system, and the images are then presented. Overall, this study enhances the standard and the technical content of evidence extraction and simplifies the evidence extraction process. In addition to the rapid handling of the scenes captured at a crime scene, the one-click device has other notable advantages, such as fast imaging, portability, being independent of the environmental conditions and the operator's technical capabilities, and zero pollution to ensure the repeatability of material evidence extraction. Compared with the original optical forensics equipment, the spectrum and angle of our system are more extensive.

RESUMO

The wax gourd is commonly grown in many countries because of its high nutritional and economic value. While the genes for the fruit shape and peel colour of wax gourd have been reported, the InDel markers linked to these genes remain undeveloped. In this study, the InDel markers linked to fruit-shape (Bch02G016830) and peel-colour (Bch05G003950) genes were developed from resequenced data. We used 120 inbred lines, 536 isolated populations, and 4 commercial hybrids to evaluate the validity and application value of the InDel markers. The accuracy rates of nine pairs of fruit-shape InDel markers (GX1-GX9) were 84.16-91.66% in 120 inbred lines. The accuracy rates of 27 pairs of peel-colour InDel markers (PS1-PS27) within approximately 3.0 Mb upstream and 3.0 Mb downstream of the peel-colour gene were 100% and those of 6 pairs of peel-colour InDel markers (PS28-PS33) within 3.0-20 Mb upstream and downstream of the peel-colour gene were 55.83-90% in 120 inbred lines. The purity of four commercial hybrids determined using GX1, GX2, PS13, and PS14 was highly consistent with the field results for purity determination. Our results provide important information for genetic linkage map construction, molecular-marker-assisted selective breeding, and purity determination of wax gourd hybrids.
