RESUMO

Removing organic micropollutants from water through photocatalysis is hindered by catalyst instability and substantial residuals from incomplete mineralization. Here, a novel water treatment paradigm, the unified heterogeneous self-Fenton process (UHSFP), which achieved an impressive 32% photon utilization efficiency at 470 nm, and a significant 94% mineralization of organic micropollutants-all without the continual addition of oxidants and iron ions is presented. In UHSFP, the active species differs fundamentally from traditional photocatalytic processes. One electron acceptor unit of photocatalyst acquires only one photogenerated electron to convert into oxygen-centered organic radical (OCOR), then spontaneously completing subsequent processes, including pollutant degradation, hydrogen peroxide generation, activation, and mineralization of organic micropollutants. By bolstering electron-transfer capabilities and diminishing catalyst affinity for oxygen in the photocatalytic process, the generation of superoxide radicals is effectively suppressed, preventing detrimental attacks on the catalyst. This study introduces an innovative and cost-effective strategy for the efficient and stable mineralization of organic micropollutants, eliminating the necessity for continuous chemical inputs, providing a new perspective on water treatment technologies.

RESUMO

Hypertrophic scar formation is influenced by the intricate interplay between fibroblasts and endothelial cells. In this study, we investigated this relationship using in vitro and in vivo models. Clinical observations revealed distinct morphological changes and increased vascularity at pathological scar sites. Further analysis using OCTA, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence confirmed the involvement of angiogenesis in scar formation. Our indirect co-culture systems demonstrated that endothelial cells enhance the proliferation and migration of fibroblasts through the secretion of cytokines including VEGF, PDGF, bFGF, and TGF-ß. Additionally, a suspended co-culture multicellular spheroid model revealed molecular-level changes associated with extracellular matrix remodeling, cellular behaviors, inflammatory response, and pro-angiogenic activity. Furthermore, KEGG pathway analysis identified the involvement of TGF-ß, IL-17, Wnt, Notch, PI3K-Akt, and MAPK pathways in regulating fibroblasts activity. These findings underscore the critical role of fibroblasts-endothelial cells crosstalk in scar formation and provide potential targets for therapeutic intervention. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying this interplay holds promise for the development of innovative approaches to treat tissue injuries and diseases.

RESUMO

Sugarcane is a significant primitive source of sugar and energy worldwide. The progress in enhancing the sugar content in sugarcane cultivars remains limited due to an insufficient understanding of specific genes related to sucrose production. The present investigation examined the enzyme activities, levels of reducing and non-reducing sugars, and transcript expression using RT-qPCR to assess the gene expression associated with sucrose metabolism in a high-sucrose sugarcane clone (GXB9) in comparison to a low-sucrose sister clone (B9). Sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), sucrose phosphate phosphatase (SPP), sucrose synthase (SuSy), cell wall invertase (CWI), soluble acid invertase (SAI), and neutral invertase (NI) are essential enzymes involved in sucrose metabolism in sugarcane. The activities of these enzymes were comparatively quantified and analyzed in immature and maturing internodes of the high- and low-sucrose clones. The results showed that the higher-sucrose-accumulating clone had greater sucrose concentrations than the low-sucrose-accumulating clone; however, maturing internodes had higher sucrose levels than immature internodes in both clones. Hexose concentrations were higher in immature internodes than in maturing internodes for both clones. The SPS and SPP enzymes activities were higher in the high-sucrose-storing clone than in the low-sucrose clone. SuSy activity was higher in the low-sucrose clone than in the high-sucrose clone; further, the degree of SuSy activity was higher in immature internodes than in maturing internodes for both clones. The SPS gene expression was considerably higher in mature internodes of the high-sucrose clones than the low-sucrose clone. Conversely, the SuSy gene exhibited up-regulated expression in the low-sucrose clone. The enhanced expression of SPS in the high-sucrose clone compared to the low-sucrose clone suggests that SPS plays a major role in the increased accumulation of sucrose. These findings provide the opportunity to improve sugarcane cultivars by regulating the activity of genes related to sucrose metabolism using transgenic techniques.

RESUMO

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a crucial oxidant in advanced oxidation processes. In situ, photosynthesis of it in natural water holds the promise of practical application for water remediation. However, current photosynthesis of H2O2 systems primarily relies on oxygen reduction, leading to limited performance in natural water with low dissolved oxygen or anaerobic conditions found in polluted water. Herein, a novel photocatalyst based on conjugated polymers with alternating electron donor-acceptor structures and electron-withdrawing side chains on electron donors is introduced. Specifically, carbazole functions as the electron donor, triazine serves as the electron acceptor, and cyano acts as the electron-withdrawing side chain. Notably, the photocatalyst exhibits a remarkable solar-to-chemical conversion of 0.64%, the highest reported in natural water. Furthermore, even in anaerobic conditions, it achieves an impressive H2O2 photosynthetic efficiency of 1365 µmol g-1 h-1, surpassing all the reported photosynthetic systems of H2O2. This remarkable improvement is attributed to the effective relocation of the water oxidation active site from a high-energy carbazole to a low-energy acetylene site mediated by the side chains, resulting in enhanced O2 or H2O2 generation from water. This breakthrough offers a new avenue for efficient water remediation using advanced oxidation technologies in oxygen-limited environments, holding significant implications for environmental restoration.

RESUMO

Kodamaea ohmeri, an emerging human pathogen, caused both sporadic and nosocomial infections among immunocompromised people with high mortality. However, there is limited research on the molecular epidemiology of K. ohmeri. A total of fifty microsatellite loci were designed based on K. ohmeri type strain NRRL Y-1932 and three loci were finally selected for microsatellite analysis. Non-duplicated K. ohmeri isolates and strains of other species were collected across China as a part of CHIF-NET program for sensitivity and specificity verification. Antifungal susceptibility was determined using Sensititre YeastOne TM YO10. The three loci (P10, P11 and P26), with a cumulative discriminatory power of 0.98, exhibited a prospective specificity and reproducibility in the PCR of 92 K. ohmeri strains from different hospitals. A total of 54 microsatellite types (MT) were identified and most of them distributed sporadically. However, six strains of MT12 clustered in HZ hospital and were isolated in the same department within two months, indicating a potential outbreak. Of seven isolates exhibited MIC values of >8 mg/L for fluconazole, three isolates from LR hospital shared the same genotype of MT44. Herein, we established a set of microsatellite loci for K. ohmeri, as a rapid and specific tool for genotyping K. ohmeri, and identified several potential clusters. This study will help us better understand the molecular epidemiology of the emerging pathogen K. ohmeri.

RESUMO

Background: The diagnosis of benign and malignant solitary pulmonary nodules based on personal experience has several limitations. Therefore, this study aims to establish a nomogram for the diagnosis of benign and malignant solitary pulmonary nodules using clinical information and computed tomography (CT) results. Methods: Retrospectively, we collected clinical and CT characteristics of 1,160 patients with pulmonary nodules in Guang'an People's Hospital and the hospital affiliated with North Sichuan Medical College between 2019 and 2021. Among these patients, data from 773 patients with pulmonary nodules were used as the training set. We used the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) to optimize clinical and imaging features and performed a multivariate logistic regression to identify features with independent predictive ability to develop the nomogram model. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), C-index, decision curve analysis, and calibration plot were used to evaluate the performance of the nomogram model in terms of predictive ability, discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility. Finally, data from 387 patients with pulmonary nodules were utilized for validation. Results: In the training set, the predictors for the nomogram were gender, density of the nodule, nodule diameter, lobulation, calcification, vacuole, vascular convergence, bronchiole, and pleural traction, selected through LASSO and logistic regression analysis. The resulting model had a C-index of 0.842 (95% CI [0.812-0.872]) and AUCs of 0.842 (95% CI [0.812-0.872]). In the validation set, the C-index was 0.856 (95% CI [0.811-0.901]), and the AUCs were 0.844 (95% CI [0.797-0.891]). Results from the calibration curve and clinical decision curve analyses indicate that the nomogram has a high fit and clinical benefit in both the training and validation sets. Conclusion: The establishment of a nomogram for predicting the benign or malignant diagnosis of solitary pulmonary nodules by this study has shown good efficacy. Such a nomogram may help to guide the diagnosis, follow-up, and treatment of patients.

RESUMO

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play an essential role in various physiological events. Recent studies have revealed its carcinogenic effect in malignancies. However, the different expression patterns, prognostic value, and immunological value of MMPs in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) are yet to be comprehensively explored. We utilized Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and Gene Expression Omnibus databases to explore the abnormal expression of MMPs in PDAC. Then, Kaplan-Meier survival curve and Cox regression analysis were performed to assess the prognostic value of MMPs. Association between MMPs expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed through UALCAN website. Functional annotations and GSEA analysis were performed to excavate the possible signaling pathways involving prognostic-related MMP. TIMER and TISCH database were used to performed immune infiltration analysis. The expression of prognostic-related MMP in pancreatic cancer cell lines and normal pancreatic cells was detected by Real time quantitative PCR. We observed that 10 MMP genes were consistently up-regulated in GEPIA and GSE62452 dataset. Among them, five highly expressed MMPs (MMP1, MMP3, MMP11, MMP14, MMP28) were closely related to poor clinical outcomes of PDAC patients. Cox regression analysis indicated MMP28 was a risk factor influencing the overall survival of patients. In the clinicopathological analysis, up-regulated MMP28 was significantly associated with higher tumor grade and the mutation status of TP53. GSEA analysis demonstrated that high expression of MMP28 was involved in "interferon_alpha_response" and "P53_pathway". Immune infiltration analysis showed that there was no correlation between MMP28 expression and immune cell infiltration. Single-cell sequencing analysis showed MMP28 has strong correlations with malignant cells and stromal cells infiltration in the tumor microenvironment. And MMP28 was highly expressed in various pancreatic cancer cell lines. In conclusion, MMP28 may represent a potential prognosis biomarker and novel therapeutic molecular targets for PDAC.

RESUMO

The present study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of action of ribonucleotide reductase M2 (RRM2) in lung adenocarcinoma and its potential as a therapeutic target. Data of patients with lung adenocarcinoma from The Cancer Genome Atlas database were collected and analyzed to evaluate the potential of RRM2 as a biomarker. The expression of RRM2 was evaluated in the A549 cell line and its cisplatin-resistant A549/DDP cell line derivative by western blot and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The study also investigated cell proliferation and the mechanism by which RRM2 controls cellular cisplatin resistance using CCK-8 and colony-formation assays. In addition, cell migration was assessed using Transwell assays, and the cell cycle and apoptosis were examined using flow cytometry. RRM2 was highly expressed in lung adenocarcinoma and was associated with the clinical TMN stage. Functional enrichment analysis showed that RRM2 was enriched in the cell cycle. Immune cell infiltration analysis identified 12 types of immune cell that exhibited differences between patients expressing different levels of RRM2. Cellular assays revealed higher levels of RRM2 expression in A549/DDP cells than A549 cells, and its expression was induced by cisplatin. RRM2 knockdown decreased cell proliferation and migration, accelerated apoptosis and caused cell cycle arrest in the S-phase, increasing the sensitivity of A549 and A549/DDP cells to cisplatin through the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway. Overexpression of ß-catenin reduced the effects of RRM2 knockdown on A549 cells. Lung adenocarcinoma growth may be influenced by RRM2 through the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway, suggesting a potential pathway for cancer progression.

RESUMO

Around the world, cancer-related death is primarily caused by lung cancer all the time. MiR-654-3p plays an outstanding role in the development of cancer, but the mechanism of miR-654-3p in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is uncertain. For this purpose, a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) was carried out to detect the expression of miR-654-3p and SRC mRNA. Western blot was used to estimate the level of SRC protein. The mimics enhanced miR-654-3p, while inhibitors knocked it down. Functional experiments were performed to evaluate the proliferation and migration capacities of cells. Flow cytometry assay was utilized to measure apoptosis rates and cell cycles of cells. TargetScan bioinformatics database was queried to identify the probable target gene for miR-654-3p. Dual-fluorescence assay was implemented to verify whether miR-654-3p targets SRC. Subcutaneous tumorigenesis was used to estimate the function of miR-654-3p in vivo. Results showed that low expression of miR-654-3p was found in NSCLC tissues and cells. Up-regulated miR-654-3p suppressed cell proliferation and migration, promoted apoptosis, and blocked cells in the G1 phase, while down-regulated miR-654-3p created the opposite results. Dual-fluorescence assay confirmed that miR-654-3p was directly bound to SRC. Compared with the control group, the effects of miR-654-3p were neutralized in the group, which was co-transfected with miR-654-3p mimics and SRC over-expression plasmids. In vivo, the tumor volume in the LV-miR-654-3p group was smaller than that in the control group. It was concluded that miR-654-3p acts in an anti-cancer role and suppresses tumor progression via regulating SRC, which lays a theoretical foundation for targeted therapy of NSCLC. MiR-654-3p is expected to be a new miRNA-based therapeutic target.

RESUMO

Hyperprolactinemia and metabolic disturbance are common side effects of antipsychotics that cause intolerance. Despite its potential influence on relapse, there are no established guidelines for antipsychotic switching. This naturalistic study explored the association between antipsychotic switching, baseline clinical status, metabolic changes, and relapse in patients with schizophrenia. In total, 177 patients with amisulpride-induced hyperprolactinemia and 274 with olanzapine-induced metabolic disturbance were enrolled. Relapse was determined by assessing changes in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total scores from baseline to 6 months (increased over 20% or 10% reaching 70). Metabolic indices were measured at baseline and 3 months. Patients with baseline PANSS >60 were more likely to relapse. Further, patients switching to aripiprazole had a higher risk of relapse regardless of their original medication. Participants who originally used amisulpride had reduced prolactin levels following medication change, while switching to olanzapine caused increased weight and blood glucose levels. In patients originally using olanzapine, only switching to aripiprazole reduced insulin resistance. Adverse effects on weight and lipid metabolism were observed in patients who switched to risperidone, while amisulpride improved lipid profiles. Changing schizophrenia treatment requires careful consideration of multiple variables, particularly the choice of substituted drug and the patient's baseline symptoms.

RESUMO

Breast cancer is the most frequent cause of death from cancer in 12 regions of the world. Among the breast cancer subtypes, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive, leading to an adverse prognosis. Thus, we aimed to identify the top 100 most cited articles regarding TNBC through bibliometric analyses, to explore their current impact and publication status. We searched TNBC-related articles from the Web of Science core database on September 19, 2021, and ranked them by citation in descending order. Information extracted from the top 100 most cited articles, included title, author, institution, country, year, publication, Journal Cited Rank, citation, Web of Science category, were extracted by two researchers independently. VOSviewer was used to analyze data, such as co-authoring institutions, and author cooperation. Descriptive statistical analysis of data was performed using Excel. Citations from the top 100 most cited articles ranged from 225 to 2753, and all were published after 2007. The top 100 most cited articles were published in 38 journals, with the Journal of Clinical Oncology published the most (n = 15), followed by Clinical Cancer Research (n = 11), Lancet Oncology(n = 6). Eric P. Winer from USA, who participated 12 articles, was the most frequently published author. The USA (n = 71) was the country with the most contributions to TNBC. The most prevalent topics included: clinical features, molecular subtypes, relevant influencing factors, exploration of treatment options and prognosis of TNBC. The leading institution was the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (n = 20) from the USA. This is the first bibliometric analysis on the TNBC 100 most cited article. We provided insights into the most cited articles on TNBC and listed a detailed description of their characteristics and trend, which provides ideas for further study.

RESUMO

Background: Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) is a unique mechanism in which microorganisms utilize the nitrogenase enzyme to catalyze the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3). Fe protein, encoded by the nifH gene, is an essential component of the nitrogenase in Klebsiella variicola DX120E. However, the function of this gene in regulating nitrogen fixing activity is still unclear. Objectives: The objective of this study was to reveal the function of nifH gene in associative nitrogen-fixing bacteria Klebsiella variicola DX120E and micro-sugarcane system by immunoassay and gene editing. Materials and Methods: In the current investigation, the nifH gene was cloned in a pET-30a (+) vector and expressed in Escherichia coli. The NifH protein was purified and used to immunize rabbit, and then the serum was collected and purified to obtain rabbit anti-NifH polyclonal antibodies. The CRISPR-Cas9 system was applied to produce nifH mutant strains, and the nitrogen-fixing enzyme activity, gene, and protein expression were analyzed. Results: Both in vitro and in vivo NifH proteins were detected by Western blotting, which were 43 and 32 kDa respectively. The expression of nifD and nifK genes was decreased, and nitrogenase activity was reduced in the nifH mutant strain. Conclusion: The nifH gene mutant weakened the nitrogenase activity by regulating the expression of Fe protein, which suggests a potential strategy to study the nitrogen fixation-related genes and the interactions between endophytic nitrogen-fixing bacteria and sugarcane.

RESUMO

Background: Cognitive subtypes of schizophrenia may exhibit different neurobiological characteristics. This study aimed to reveal the underlying neurobiological features between cognitive subtypes in the early course of schizophrenia (ECS). According to prior studies, we hypothesized to identify 2-4 distinct cognitive subtypes. We further hypothesized that the subtype with relatively poorer cognitive function might have lower brain spontaneous neural activity than the subtype with relatively better cognitive function. Method: Cognitive function was assessed by the MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB). Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scanning was conducted for each individual. There were 155 ECS individuals and 97 healthy controls (HCs) included in the subsequent analysis. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to identify the cognitive subtypes in ECS individuals, and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFFs) was used to measure brain spontaneous neural activity in ECS individuals and HCs. Results: LPA identified two cognitive subtypes in ECS individuals, containing a severely impaired subtype (SI, n = 63) and a moderately impaired subtype (MI, n = 92). Compared to HCs, ECS individuals exhibited significantly increased ALFF in the left caudate and bilateral thalamus and decreased ALFF in the bilateral medial prefrontal cortex and bilateral posterior cingulate cortex/precuneus (PCC/PCu). In ECS cognitive subtypes, SI showed significantly higher ALFF in the left precentral gyrus (PreCG) and lower ALFF in the left PCC/PCu than MI. Furthermore, ALFFs of left PreCG were negatively correlated with several MCCB cognitive domains in ECS individuals, while ALFF of left PCC/PCu presented opposite correlations. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that differences in the brain spontaneous neural activity of PreCG and PCC/PCu might be the potential neurobiological features of the cognitive subtypes in ECS, which may deepen our understanding of the role of PreCG and PCC/PCu in the pathogenesis of cognitive impairment in schizophrenia.

RESUMO

This study aimed to preliminary examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version 96-item VIA Inventory for Youth (VIA Youth-96) by analyzing the internal consistency, factorial validity, and criterion validity, and to examine the age-related changes in character strengths (CSs) among adolescents. The sample consisted of 959 adolescents aged 10-17 (49.5% boys). Participants completed the Chinese version VIA Youth-96, along with the Perceived Parental Autonomy Support Scale, and questionnaires assessing life satisfaction and self-efficacy online. The Chinese version VIA Youth-96 showed a good fit for the original four-factor structure, and CS scores were significantly correlated with life satisfaction and self-efficacy indicating a good criterion validity of the scale. The internal consistency was 0.54-0.86 for subscales. Moreover, this study revealed significant age-related changes in CSs among adolescents, eight CSs significantly linearly declined by age. These results suggested that the Chinese version VIA Youth-96 is a valid tool for assessing CSs in adolescents and that CSs are declined linearly by age during adolescence.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Aromatase inhibitor (AI)-induced joint pain is a common toxicity of AI treatment. Although many studies have been conducted to examine the occurrence and severity of AI-induced joint pain in breast cancer survivors, none of the studies focused on the Chinese population with breast cancer. Given that the differences in cultural background and the genetic structure between Asians and Caucasians may contribute to different phenotypes of joint pain, this cross-sectional study was therefore conducted to examine the prevalence of AI-induced joint pain among Chinese breast cancer survivors receiving AI treatment and the correlates of pain. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary hospital in China. Breast cancer survivors undergoing AI treatment were recruited to complete the following questionnaires: a self-designed baseline data form, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B). Based on the assessment results of NMQ (if the participant indicated pain in specific body parts), participants were then invited to complete other questionnaires to specifically assess the joint symptoms, including the Oxford Knee Score (OKS), the Oxford Hip Score (OHS), the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ), and the Manchester Foot Pain Disability Questionnaire (MFPDQ). Descriptive analysis was used to analyse participants' baseline data and the prevalence of pain. Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify the correlates of pain. RESULTS: Four hundred and ten participants were analysed. According to the NMQ, 71.7% of the participants experienced joint symptoms in at least one joint, and the most frequently mentioned joint was knee (39.0%). The diagram in BPI indicated that 28.0% of the participants had the worst pain around knees. In patients with knee pain, the mean OKS score was 40.46 ± 6.19. The sub-scores of BPI for pain intensity and pain interference were 1.30 ± 1.63 and 1.24 ± 1.79, respectively. Patients' poorer physical well-being/functioning, previous use of AI treatment, presence of osteoarthritis, and receiving of physiotherapy were identified as four common correlates of greater severity of pain and pain interference (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Chinese breast cancer survivors can experience joint pain at various locations, particularly knees. In addition to increasing the use of interventions for pain alleviation, a comprehensive assessment of survivors' conditions such as physical functioning, history of AI treatment, and presence of osteoarthritis should be emphasized to identify survivors who need more attention and tailored interventions.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To examine central corneal thickness (CCT) changes during in vivo rose bengal-green light corneal cross-linking (RG-CXL) and compare the CXL efficacy of different rose bengal formulations. METHODS: After epithelium removal, the right eyes of rabbits were immersed in rose bengal solution prepared by different solvents (water, phosphate buffered saline, dextran, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulos [HPMC]) for 2 or 20 minutes, then the rose bengal distribution in the corneal stroma was analyzed by confocal fluorescence detection. During the RG-CXL process, the CCT was measured at seven time points. The left eyes served as the untreated control group. Corneal enzymatic resistance and corneal biomechanics were tested to compare the RG-CXL efficacy. RESULTS: The rose bengal infiltration depths were 120 and 200 µm for the 2- and 20-minute groups, respectively. CCT increased significantly after infiltration, then decreased significantly in the first 200 seconds of irradiation and decreased slowly for the next 400 seconds. The CCT of the 20-minute groups was significantly thicker than that of the 2-minute groups (P < .0001). All RG-CXL treatments improved the corneal enzymatic resistance and corneal biomechanics, with the effects being greater in the 20-minute groups. The inclusion of 1.1% HPMC in the rose bengal formulation helped to maintain CCT during irradiation while not affecting either the infiltration of rose bengal or the efficacy of RG-CXL. CONCLUSIONS: Within the range studied, RG-CXL efficacy increased with infiltration time. The incorporation of a 20-minute infiltration of 0.1% rose bengal-1.1% HPMC into the RG-CXL procedure may further improve the safety of the treatment and its prospects for clinical use. RESUMO

Objective: To test the validity, reliability, and acceptability of the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) Mandarin Chinese version for measuring knee pain and function among Chinese breast cancer survivors. Methods: This validation study was a secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey that was conducted at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Sichuan, China. Recruited from a larger arthralgia-related survey cohort, those who experienced knee arthralgia and completed the OKS Chinese version were selected for the current analysis. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated to identify the internal consistency reliability of the OKS. Spearman's correlations were adopted to identify the concurrent validity of the OKS. The discriminate performance of the OKS via subgroup analysis of breast cancer survivors with or without arthritis, as well as different exercise levels, cancer stages, chemotherapy protocols, and occupations, was also conducted. Results: One hundred and fifty-nine breast cancer survivors were included. There were significant correlations between the OKS and the FACT-B, the SF-36, and the BPI in measuring knee pain symptoms and their impact on daily living activities. The Cronbach's alpha for the OKS total scores was 0.90. The participants with arthritis reported significantly lower OKS scores than those without arthritis (P â€‹= â€‹0.040). The difference in OKS total scores between the participants with different exercise levels (P â€‹< â€‹0.001) and the participants with different occupations (P â€‹= â€‹0.006) was statistically significant. Considerable ceiling effects (>15%) of the OKS Chinese version were found in 11 of 12 items. Conclusions: The OKS Mandarin Chinese version is a short, valid, reliable, and sensitive tool for knee pain and function assessment among breast cancer survivors.

RESUMO

Character strengths could effectively prevent negative psychological outcomes in adults. However, there was little research conducted among early adolescents. The present study aimed to explore character strengths that were independently related to fewer behavior problems in early adolescents. In total, 521 early adolescents (mean age 10.92 ± 0.04, range 10-12 years) were recruited from primary schools in Sichuan, China. Character strengths were measured using the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths for Youth (VIA-Youth). Behavior problems were measured using the Conners Parent Symptom Questionnaire (PSQ). The results showed that behavior problems were negatively correlated with character strengths (r = -0.14 to -0.3, p < 0.05 Bonferroni corrected). Character strengths explained a significant proportion of additional variance (14-22%) in five types of behavior problems after controlling the effect of demographic factors (residence, left-behind experiences, maternal education level). Moreover, several specific character strengths showed an independent contribution (ß = -0.34 to -0.14 for self-regulation, perseverance, zest, humility, and leadership; ß = 0.21 to 0.34, for hope; all p < 0.05) to behavior problems. Our study revealed that character strengths were protective factors against behavior problems in early adolescents.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Patients with schizophrenia consistently present pervasive cognitive deficits, but the neurobiological mechanism of cognitive impairments remains unclear. By analyzing regional homogeneity (ReHo) of resting-state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, this study aimed to explore the association between brain functional alterations and cognitive deficits in first-episode schizophrenia (FES) with a relatively large sample. METHODS: A total of 187 patients with FES and 100 healthy controls from 3 independent cohorts underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance scans. The MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery (MCCB) was used to assess cognitive function. Partial correlation analysis was performed between abnormal ReHo values and the severity of symptoms and cognitive deficits. RESULTS: Compared with healthy controls, ReHo values increased in right superior frontal cortex and decreased in right anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), left middle occipital gyrus (MOG), left cuneus, right posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), and right superior occipital gyrus in schizophrenia patients. ReHo values in ACC, PCC and superior occipital gyrus were correlated with PANSS scores. In addition, ReHo values in ACC and MOG were negatively correlated with working memory; left cuneus was positively correlated with multiple cognitive domains (speed of processing, attention/vigilance and social cognition); PCC was positively correlated with verbal learning; right superior occipital gyrus was positively correlated with speed of processing and social cognition. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, we found widespread ReHo alterations and cognitive dysfunction in FES. And the pathophysiology mechanism of a wide range of cognitive deficits may be related to abnormal spontaneous brain activity.
