RESUMO
There have been reports of potential health risks for people from hydrophobic organic pollutants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated hydrocarbons (PCHs), and organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs). When a contaminated site is used for residential housing or public utility and recreation areas, the soil-bound organic pollutants might pose a threat to human health. In this study, we investigated the contamination profiles and potential risks to human health of 15 PAHs, 6 PCHs, and 12 OPFRs in soils from four contaminated sites in China. We used an in vitro method to determine the oral bioaccessibility of soil pollutants. Total PAHs were found at concentrations ranging from 26.4 ng/g to 987 ng/g. PCHs (0.27â14.3 ng/g) and OPFRs (6.30â310 ng/g) were detected, but at low levels compared to earlier reports. The levels of PAHs, PCHs, and OPFRs released from contaminated soils into simulated gastrointestinal fluids ranged from 1.74% to 91.0%, 2.51% to 39.6%, and 1.37% to 96.9%, respectively. Based on both spiked and unspiked samples, we found that the oral bioaccessibility of pollutants was correlated with their logKow and molecular weight, and the total organic carbon content and pH of soils. PAHs in 13 out of 38 contaminated soil samples posed potential high risks to children. When considering oral bioaccessibility, nine soils still posed potential risks, while the risks in the remaining soils became negligible. The contribution of this paper is that it corrects the health risk of soil-bound organic pollutants by detecting bioaccessibility in actual soils from different contaminated sites.

Quantum random number generator (QRNG) utilizes the intrinsic randomness of quantum systems to generate completely unpredictable and genuine random numbers, finding wide applications across many fields. QRNGs relying on the phase noise of a laser have attracted considerable attention due to their straightforward system architecture and high random number generation rates. However, traditional phase noise QRNGs suffer from a 50% loss of quantum entropy during the randomness extraction process. In this paper, we propose a phase-reconstruction quantum random number generation scheme, in which the phase noise of a laser is reconstructed by simultaneously measuring the orthogonal quadratures of the light field using balanced detectors. This enables direct discretization of uniform phase noise, and the min-entropy can achieve a value of 1. Furthermore, our approach exhibits inherent robustness against the classical phase fluctuations of the unbalanced interferometer, eliminating the need for active compensation. Finally, we conducted experimental validation using commercial optical hybrid and balanced detectors, achieving a random number generation rate of 1.96 Gbps at a sampling rate of 200 MSa/s.
RESUMO
Porcine kobuvirus (PKV) is an enteric virus commonly detected in both diarrheic and healthy pigs. Little is known about the role of PKV in enteric diseases. In this study, an epidemiological investigation based on 324 intestinal samples collected from six provinces of China during the period of 2018 to 2022 was performed, and showed that PKV has an overall 65.43% (212/324) positive rate. Noticeably, 89.47% (17/19) of PKV and porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) double-positive pigs were clinically diseased, while 91.71% (177/193) of PKV-positive but PEDV-negative pigs were clinically healthy, suggesting that PKV infection in itself is unlikely to cause enteric diseases. In addition, three PKV genomes were obtained from both diseased and healthy pigs. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Chinese PKV strains could be divided into three groups (SH-W-CHN-like, S-1-HUN-like and JXAT2015-like strains). All three obtained PKV genomes belong to SH-W-CHN-like strains and JSYZ1806-158 was detected as a recombinant virus. Furthermore, multiple comparisons showed that nucleotide similarities are clearly lower than amino acid similarities for PKV polyproteins. Selective pressure analysis indicated that Chinese PKV polyproteins are predominantly under negative selection. Overall, this study provided new insights into the prevalence and evolution of PKV in both diarrheic and healthy pigs in China.
RESUMO
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers diagnosed worldwide. However, the mechanism underlying HCC pathogenesis remains unknown. In the present study, TRIM24 was found increased in human HCC clinical samples and positively correlated with HCC tumor grade. Furthermore, TRIM24 knockdown inhibits proliferation and migration in a human HCC cell line in vitro while also inhibiting tumor growth in vivo. Mechanistically, TRIM24 appears to promote liver tumor development via AMPK signaling as AMPK knockdown alleviated the in vitro and in vivo effects of TRIM24 knockdown in a human HCC cell line. Taken together, these data enhance our understanding of HCC development in addition to highlighting TRIM24-regulated AMPK signaling as a potential therapeutic target for HCC treatment.
