RESUMO

Techniques of artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly used in the treatment of patients, such as providing a diagnosis in radiological imaging, improving workflow by triaging patients or providing an expert opinion based on clinical symptoms; however, such AI techniques also hold intrinsic risks as AI algorithms may point in the wrong direction and constitute a black box without explaining the reason for the decision-making process.This article outlines a case where an erroneous ChatGPT diagnosis, relied upon by the patient to evaluate symptoms, led to a significant treatment delay and a potentially life-threatening situation. With this case, we would like to point out the typical risks posed by the widespread application of AI tools not intended for medical decision-making.

BACKGROUND: Practice-oriented phases, such as the mandatory clinical traineeships and the final clinical internship, are of great importance in the teaching curriculum and skilful learning of medical students. AIM: With respect to the practical phases, such as clinical clerkship and medical internship, the concept of two innovative courses to prepare and evaluate these crucial training sections is presented including initial experiences from teaching practice. METHOD: A narrative review is given. RESULTS: A common aim of facultatively initiated lectures is a better qualification of medical students to fulfil the requirements of clerkship and the last practical year of the study of human medicine to facilitate taking first steps towards professional work as a clinical physician, in particular, the self-confidence of the medical students is to be substantially increased. The experiences obtained during clerkship and the last practical year influence interest, motivation and final choice for a certain medical speciality. In that respect, this period is of great importance for the whole professional career. The content of the preparation courses for the first medical clerkships and the final clinical internship provide a valuable contribution to prepare for challenging clinical work as a physician with sole responsibility. In particular, they aim to introduce students to the concept of a multiprofessional and extensive patient care. Taking into account the different practical experiences obtained in previous study sections, students are taught according to the overall aim to achieve an interdisciplinary competence in clinical care. CONCLUSION: The improvement of teaching and optimized preparation for practical phases in medical studies promotes a more successful learning process during the clerkship and last practical year.

Objective: Against the background of the current pandemic crisis, this case report presents the experiences made from interprofessional teamwork with group members from different medical qualification levels. Our objectives were to identify areas of shared knowledge regarding efficient collaboration; to improve effective teamwork based on mutual respect; to develop innovative teaching methods tailored to the needs of COVID-19 interprofessional response teams. Methods: Field notes from numerous team discussions and improvised internal training sessions were compiled into a checklist. Each author edited and revised the checklist and a consensus has been reached after an in-person discussion. Feedback from an academic expert in emergency services has been incorporated into the final version of the checklist. Results: Three main topics were identified: the need for quality-assured professional training, the clarification of role expectations including assigned responsibilities, opportunities to contribute and participate in the team building process, and the development of area-related ethical competence in the sense of shared moral public health literacy. Hence, we developed the following ad - hoc teaching methods: use of online teaching videos, practical exercises on intubation models and the collective development of an annotated, detailed checklist for all relevant work processes of the mobile corona unit based on everyday debriefings. Summary: The need for interprofessional team building in the context of the current health crisis provides a beneficial learning environment for all participants. We propose to conceptually refine this approach into a cross-professional, innovative method of teaching.
