RESUMO

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a hematological malignancy that requires effective pharmacotherapy for optimal management. There is limited information regarding Yemeni clinicians' knowledge and practice of NHL pharmacotherapy. This study aims to assess the knowledge and practice of physicians and nurses in Yemen regarding pharmacotherapy of NHL. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Sana'a, Yemen, from January 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023. Two self-administrated and validated questionnaires were distributed to 99 physicians and 164 nurses involved in pharmacotherapy for NHL in different oncology centers and units across Yemen. Convenience samples were used to recruit participants. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with nurses' and physicians' knowledge and practice. The correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between knowledge and practice. A total of 77 physicians and 105 nurses completed the questionnaires. The results showed that 54.3% of nurses and 66.2% of physicians had poor knowledge of NHL pharmacotherapy. In terms of practice, 83.8% of nurses and 75.3% of physicians exhibited poor practice regarding NHL pharmacotherapy. Multivariable logistic regression analysis identified that nurses who received sufficient information about chemotherapy displayed a significant association with good knowledge, while nurses working in the chemotherapy administration department were significant predictors of good practice. Among physicians, those working in the National Oncology Center (NOC) in Sana'a demonstrated good practice. Correlation analysis revealed a positive relationship between nurses' knowledge and their practice. The study's results confirm deficiencies in knowledge and practice of pharmacotherapy for NHL among physicians and nurses in Yemen. Efforts should be made to enhance their understanding of treatment guidelines and to improve patient care. Improvement in educational programs and training opportunities may contribute to improving patient outcomes in the management of NHL.

Background: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is a prevalent and distressing adverse effect that can negatively affect a patient's quality of life and treatment adherence. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the consistency of antiemetic use with standard guidelines and to examine the factors influencing it. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the National Oncology Center (NOC) of Al-Jomhouri Teaching Hospital, Sana'a, Yemen, from November 2022 to September 2023. Demographic data, chemotherapy and antiemetic regimens, dosages, and patient-related risk factors were collected via direct interviews, medical records, and treatment charts. This study evaluated the consistency of antiemetic practices among non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) patients using the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines. The chi-squared test and regression were used to determine the factors associated with guideline consistency. Results: A total of 251 patients with NHL were recruited for the study; 57.4% were male and 60.6% were aged between 18-49. Most of the patients received moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (81.3%). The overall consistency with the NCCN guidelines was only 23.9%, with antiemetic drug selection and dosage reported inconsistently in 62.9% and 16.7% of patients, respectively. Furthermore, 62.5% of the patients received an under-prescribed antiemetic prophylactic regimen. Treatment duration, number of chemotherapy cycles, emetogenic risk potential, and overall patient risk, as well as age, sex, and marital status, were significantly associated with guideline inconsistency (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study revealed a notable gap in the consistency of antiemetic prescriptions among patients with NHL. Inappropriate drug selection, dosing, and under-prescription are common problems. Patient regimen risk factors significantly influenced the consistency of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines. Personalized approaches are essential to enhance adherence to guidelines and improve antiemetic strategies.

This article is an attempt at examining the axi-symmetric and asymmetric streaming flows described by the CSF framework. A liquid that has microfibers implanted in it, like a fiber-reinforced composite substance, is so-called CSF. It is a system that consists of an endless vertical cylindrical interface that separates the two CSF structure. The CSFs are increasingly growing significant in modern manufacturing and technology, necessitating greater research into these fluids. An axial EF acts over the cylindrical contact in addition to the influence of CSF. The VPT is employed for the sake of convenience to minimize mathematical complexity. Combining the elementary linear equations of motion and the proper linear related BCs is the major procedure of the linear technique. A collection of physically dimensionless numbers is produced using a non-dimensional process. Subsequently, the requirements for hypothetical linear stability are developed. With the aid of the Gaster's theorem, the MS is applied in computing the dispersion relationships. After carefully examining a variety of effects on the stability investigation of the system at issue, it has been shown that the system is more unstable when a porous material is present than it would be without one. The resulting axisymmetric disturbance situation is more unstable. The linear techniques are depicted throughout a number of graphs.

Background: Olea europaea leaf extract (OELE) has potential health benefits and protects against cytotoxicity. This study investigated the possible ameliorative effect of OELE on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Methods: Rats were assigned into six groups; two groups received 150 mg/kg or 300 mg/kg of OELE, one group received a single dose of cisplatin (6 mg/kg) IP on the first day of the experiment, two groups received a single dose of cisplatin 150 mg/kg or 300 mg/kg of OELE on the first day then starting from the fifth day for 10 consecutive days, and one group acted as a control. Results and Conclusion. The findings showed that cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity was evidenced by a significant increase in serum creatinine blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and a significant decrease in estimated creatinine clearance and potassium level, which corresponded with the alterations in the histopathology of the renal tissue. OELE significantly ameliorated the nephrotoxic effects of cisplatin as dose-dependent.

This study attempts to provide an approach to studying the nonlinear stability of a vertical cylindrical interface between two Oldroyd-B prototypes. An unchanged axial electric field influences the system, and porous medium, and the effects of heat and mass transfer (MHT) are considered. Hsieh's modulation and the viscous potential flow (VPT) are used to abbreviate the mathematical analysis. The viscoelastic Oldroyd-B model significant role in geothermal, engineering and industrial enhancement motivated us to carry out this in-depth investigation. The methodology of the nonlinear technique depends mainly on solving the linear equations of motion and applying the appropriate nonlinear boundary conditions. Numerous non-dimensional physical numbers are exposed using a non-dimensional technique. The stability conditions are theoretically achieved and numerically verified. As a limiting case, the linear dispersion equation is accomplished, and a set of stability diagrams is reachable. Together with the nonlinear stability method, a Ginzburg-Landau equation is derived. Subsequently, both theoretical and numerical methods are used to achieve the nonlinear stability criteria. Furthermore, a precise perturbed approach for surface deflection is achieved theoretically and numerically using the Homotopy perturbation method and the extended frequency conception. Along with the linear approach, it is found that the structure becomes unstable by the Laplace, Reynolds, Weber, and elasticity quantities as well as the linear MHT parameter. Furthermore, the stability zones are enhanced in the nonlinear instability approach.

Green tea and hibiscus are widely consumed as traditional beverages in Yemen and some regional countries. They are relatively cheap and the belief is that they improve health state and cure many diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential protective and antibacterial activity of these two famous plants in vitro through measuring their antibacterial activity and in vivo through measuring nonenzymatic kidney markers dysfunction after induction of nephrotoxicity by gentamicin. Gram positive bacteria like MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) were isolated from hospitalized patients' different sources (pus and wound) and Gram negative bacteria including E. coli and P. aeruginosa were used in vitro study. In addition, the efficacy of these plants was assessed in vivo through measuring nonenzymatic kidney markers including S. creatinine and S. urea. Green tea was shown antimicrobial activity against MRSA with inhibition zone 19.67 ± 0.33 mm and MIC 1.25 ± 0.00 mg/mL compared with standard reference (vancomycin) 18.00 ± 0.00 mg/mL. Hibiscus did not exhibit a similar effect. Both Hibiscus- and green tea-treated groups had nephroprotective effects as they reduced the elevation in nonenzymatic kidney markers. We conclude that green tea has dual effects: antimicrobial and nephroprotective.

OBJECTIVES: To study the effect of panax ginseng versus gliclazide on hyperglycaemia induced by dexamethasone in experimental animals. METHODS: The current study was conducted in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Science & Technology, Sana'a, Yemen. Twenty-four rabbits were divided to 4 groups. Three of them were administered oral doses of dexamethasone (10 mg/kg) for 14 days, one group was kept as a control. Ginseng at dose (200 mg/kg) and gliclazide (80 mg/kg) were administered to rabbits with dexamethasone-induced hyperglycaemia. RESULTS: The effects of ginseng and gliclazide on fasting blood sugar (FBS) and body weight after continuous administration of dexamethasone (10 mg/kg) were measured. Oral administration of ginseng (200mg/kg) for 2 weeks produced significant (p <0.05) reduction in FBS from 215.33±27.67 mg/dl in the dexamethasone group to 154.17±21.18mg/dl in the ginseng treated group. In addition, ginseng produced significant (p <0.05) reduction in body weight. CONCLUSION: There was a significant difference between ginseng and gliclazide in reduction of FBS and body weight. From these results, it is suggested that ginseng could be used in obese diabetic patients or those suffering from insulin resistance as it reduces body weight.
